I think I weighed in at 58kg at my booking appt at weeks and was the same when I went for my 12 week scan too. I think a lot of my weight gain happened in the run up to that!

savagehk · 25/11/2016 12:36

I was weighed at book-in both pregnancies, and they weighed me post-scan this time (I think as an input into the Down's screening).

If I remember rightly weight gain isn't helpful as everyone's so different, so provided they identify severely underweight or overweight women at booking I suspect it's not important. (I remember last time I was assigned a default consultant 'in case' and the midwife looked at me and changed it - apparently the one I had specialised in very overweight pregnancies or teens, neither of which applied to me!).

savagehk · 25/11/2016 12:38

Streaky forms come later, when you have your MAT1B form. My work was very relaxed but my husband had to produce it.

Could you try nibbling on something like popcorn?

Sonnet18 · 25/11/2016 12:38

I was weighed at booking and at 38 weeks last time. Gained about 20lbs in total last time. I'm too scared to weigh myself as I hadn't entirely lost all my baby weight and I feel a bit heavier this time...think I'll avoid the scales for now! X

Northernexile · 25/11/2016 15:33

Hi everyone, glad all you city types had a good meet. I had my whooping cough 2 weeks ago at 16 weeks (must be earlier here in NI too). I did the double-whammy and had it in one arm and the flu jab in the other.

Has anyone with allergies found a good remedy instead of anti-histamines? I have a permanently itchy throat and runny nose this time around that's driving me insane!

Northernexile · 25/11/2016 15:34

Also just bought a pair of nice looking skinny work trousers from Gap. It's 40% off today in case anyone else is interested!

Flingmoo · 25/11/2016 16:03

I had my re-scan today as they couldn't get the measurements last time. All seems well. Baby was asleep today so didn't move around as much but definitely had a good heartbeat and occasionally moved its arms. Seemed to be really chilling out in there!

I still haven't put on any weight either which is so bizarre as my belly and boobs have definitely grown - I can't see any other parts of my body looking smaller so I have no idea how those parts have grown without any weight added!

I reckon in the next couple of weeks as the nausea subsides I will start piling on the pounds though.

Need some smart maternity trousers so will check out Gap Northern thanks for the heads up! I feel like I've got nothing to wear at work. I get cold really easily so I normally like to wear tonnes of warm layers and long sleeves. I've been living in a big baggy poncho at work - it's black so I guess it's kind of just about smart enough to wear at the office... Confused Can't wait til spring when I can wear big flouncy flowery maternity dresses again Grin

teainbed · 25/11/2016 16:34

I think they're probably the trousers I mentioned up thread, they're really nice and very flattering.

Badgerbird · 25/11/2016 17:42

Great news on results raspberry and sonnet :)

Badgerbird · 25/11/2016 19:44

ShiniBerry · 26/11/2016 09:19

Hi ladies another joiner here!
EDD 5/5/17. Took me a me a while to join, this is my first pregnancy (previous m/c at 6 weeks). Based in North London, so would love to join the next London meet-up!
We don't know what we're having yet though hoping the obstetrician will do a scan so we can get a peek at the check up on Monday! Official 20 weeks scan is on the 6th Jan, though I'll be more like 22+ weeks then. It had to be rescheduled as I'm traveling to Australia over Christmas (not looking forward to that 23 hour journey!!!!).
Oh and the pregnancy hormones are in full swing for me ATM!!!
Decided to brave Oxford Street yesterday-completely nuts! But managed to pick up some maternity jeans and tops and a maternity bra from H&M. Also had a look in John Lewis at prams, lots of choices but it got too overwhelming so DH and I decided to leave that to next year. Picked up a pregnancy pillow, and actually slept for the first time in weeks!

savagehk · 26/11/2016 09:35

Hi Shini. Are they happy having your 20 week scan later rather than earlier? I'm also traveling over Christmas and moved mine forward instead (only just, to 19+6!) as the request for the scan said 'no later than' 20+5. There's a bit of uncertainty about my dates though so perhaps that's why sooner rather than later.

FoxMulder · 26/11/2016 10:01

They moved mine back for the same reason but I think only to 20+5

Streaky17 · 26/11/2016 11:34

Hi shini, Take plenty to eat/snacks. I flew to Australia a few years ago and couldn't eat the plane food so felt really horrid by the time we arrived. Goodness know what I'd be like now.

Good news on the scan mamushka - I agree it does appear to be a redistribution of weight.

This thread does move fast!
I thought the sickness had gone... then ate last nights takeaway leftovers for breakfast. Envy

Barnes79 · 26/11/2016 13:13

Just got my screening test results in the post. Confused

All are stated to be low risk, with 1:7200 for Downs and 1:2600 for Edwards and Patau's, but I must admit I'm worried they aren't lower risk - I blame my sister who said she was 1:78000 (yes, 78 thousand!) for Downs with one of hers.

I don't know whether to pay for the Harmony test or not... The cost isn't an issue but I know it's only 99% accurate anyway. Defo not bothering with invasive test.

I think you can overthink the test results and risk statistics. Human beings are notoriously bad at interpreting risk statistics - it doesn't come naturally to us to interpret these numbers.

I think it is helpful to know that even 1:100 is a 99% probability it's not Down's as nervousnelly mentions, and 1:1000 is a 99.9% probability it's not!

I know this isn't necessarily a reassuring point but if your results come back extremely low risk like your sister Barnes there's still the chance you could be that one person in 78000 who is unlucky. Which makes the results seem a little bit meaningless in a way.

We probably take far greater risks every day when we leave the house, cross a road, drive a car, even walking up the stairs where you could trip and fall. I know it's hard not to worry but I try not to dwell on these pregnancy fears too much because being anxious all the time doesn't achieve anything especially when it's something we have no control over.

lucieloos · 26/11/2016 15:43

Barnes, the harmony only goes as low as 1 in 10000 anyway so you will probably get that which isn't a massive difference from what you have already.

savagehk · 26/11/2016 16:15

What Mamushka and Nelly said - global incidence of Down's birth rates is about 1:1000, so you are well below the 'normal' chance range of Down's incidence. In fact you're a good risk.

I think that's why my area just says 'higher' or 'lower' and leaves it - putting a number on it makes people compare and stress.
