Hi all, glad to hear that a lot of you are starting to show....I AM 10+4 today and also feel i am starting to show......in the mornings i look normal enough but as the day goes on my tummy expands...maybe i'm just bloated!!!! The last time I didnt show until I was 16 weeks but I suppose the muscles are much more lax this time round,.I'll be the size of a house eventually!

laksa · 22/02/2007 09:23

thanks sophus, I did hear something about freezing making the fish safe but wasn't sure which countries did or didn't.

xx

EdieMcredie · 22/02/2007 10:47

The nuchal fold was never discussed with me. Ive had my first scan and nothing was mentioned-is it this one they do it with or the 20 weeks one? Im not too bothered but would have liked it to be discussed.

EdieMcredie · 22/02/2007 13:39

This is the new thread MrsMar and minnie the mouse

EllieG · 22/02/2007 14:06

I just had to throw my sandwich away cos it tasted horrid and could only eat chocolate for lunch

TeetheCeeofDavedom · 22/02/2007 14:19

If you do have a nuchal and your test results show that there is a lot of fluid around the nuchal fold and you are given a high risk percentage, please do remeber that a huge amount of women are given a high risk percentage and don't have children with Down's syndrome. Others are given low risk and do go onto have children with Down's sydrome, like me. Best thing that ever happened to me btw Then with my 2nd pregnancy I was high risk and DD2 has no special needs, other than she's just a crazy 14month old who thinks she's 3yrs old!

If you have a nuchal and are told you are 'high risk' it is important to think what you'll do then. Will go go onto have a CVS or an amnio. CVS are carried out at 15 weeks and carry about a 1-2%% risk of miscaariage and takes 10 days to get results. Amnio carried out arounf 16 weeks and have about 1% miscarriage risk and takes about same time for results to come back.

Things to bear in mind when deciding if you want tests.

I'm one of the lucky 600 women in 2001 that had a child with Down's syndrome and I am truly blessed to have her in my life, she's utterly fab

EnormousChangesAtTheLastMinute · 22/02/2007 14:58

i'd just like to echo what teethecee says about thinking about tests before you have them - and even if you don't. it's not just diagnostic tests which can throw up unexpected results, ultrasound scans can find things too. sometimes, (and this happened to me), they find things 'which might mean something and might not mean anything' and that's as much as they can tell you. that and 'try not to worry'. !. so it really is worth everyone just thinking about it and talking things over with their partner. at least then you know your own mind.

couple of things about a cvs for anyone considering it. this is what i was told at queen charlottes (but suspect things vary from hosp to hosp) it can be done from 11 weeks (before that it has been linked to foot and hand deformities) and you get two sets of results, one in three or four days and a full karyotyping (sp?) in around 20 days. and yes, there is a 1-2% risk of m/c. It's not an awful procedure - if you've decided you need it but at the same time i think it's best to very clear about why you want it.

sorry, hope that didn't sound like a sermon. it's just i went through 'borderline' results in my last pregnancy and it can be very stressful. at least if you've discussed various outcomes and made some decisions you're a bit prepared (even if you change your mind completely when faced with facts rather than 'what ifs')!

First of all so sorry Jess if you are still reading, take very good care of yourself and good luck for the future.

I'm not having a nuchal scan here either as it isn't offered. I'll have the triple testing, but I'm not too worried atm, my stats with DS were very low, and I'm 26 atm, so wouldn't be considered high risk. Plus I just can't afford to pay for a private scan.

I'm mainly feeling pants. Am going from lying on the sofa, to eating lunch to putting DS down for a nap, going for a nap myself and then coming back downstairs to lie on the sofa again. In other words I am less than useless and poor DS is quite bored. I've just woken up and need to go and get him because I've promised to take him to soft play, although the thought that he might now have forgotten he is supposed to be going is very tempting!

My main problem is indegestion and belching. It is non stop. I feel a bit more queesy again but have so far not been sick at all. Gaviscon is my new best friend and I am counting the days till free prescriptions so I can drink the stuff even more liberally. Really hoping it is just going to be a first stage thing this time, as it ruined a large part of my pregnancy later on last time. If the same thing happens again I will be off to my doctors for ranitadine as I know the BNF says it is ok so there!

Good luck to everyone having scans in the next few days!

EdieMcredie · 22/02/2007 16:36

FioFio

Im 11 weeks so not far behind you...

Hi all, hope you are all feeling better.

Well, I had my dating scan yesterday and it was lovely to see bubs jumoing round the screen, but then the dreaded words - we have found a problem. The nuchal fold was bigger than norma, iwas then whisked to have a nuchal scan ( apparantly all scan ographers can measure the nuchal fold but you can only give a ratio if you are accredited.) and it gave a 1 : 4 risk. So then, loads of pressure from the consultant to have a cvs the next day, but it all seemd too quick and too much all at once, so we went for an amnio which is on 21st March. Have now got my head round it and dh and i are still sure weve made the right decision, but will be glad when its done and we know definitely one way or the other.

Sorry for the ramble. Hope everyone else is starting to reach that blooming stage ive heard talk about, as my ds didnt sleep well last night im not quite there yet!!

Nettee · 22/02/2007 18:20

Missmapp - how worrying for you. lots of positive vibes coming your way for the amnio and the weeks of not knowing ahead.

I have had a long tiring day at work and am going to bed early to catch up. It is definately true that tiredness makes the MS worse

MrsMar · 22/02/2007 18:20

Hi Missmap, sorry to hear about your nuchal scan results. I hope the amnio works out ok for you. xx

canadianmum · 22/02/2007 19:20

missmapp - good luck with the amnio, what a difficult decision......

mrsmar - great, another yellow team member . I have still not been given my booking appt. but was told in the letter to wait 4 weeks from the date before calling, it has now been about 2 weeks so shall try to be patient. I chose St Georges as it is the closest and my GP said she didn't think there was much to choose between the 3 choices. Also there is no congestion charge for St Georges . I only know one person who has given birth there, and she was very happy so hopefully we will not be disappointed.

10+5 today. Nausea has just about disappeared, still very tired and spotty - I just look so pale, blotchy and washed out and my makeup just seems to slide right off my face by noon!! My tummy is not sucking in like it used to

ccpink · 23/02/2007 07:50

Hi all - thanks to those of you who have shared their nuchal experience. Like you Eddie it wasn't really discussed with m/w - I'm guessing because you have to pay here[midlands] so I've just stumbled upon it after a few of you mentioned it. I'm 30 so not major high risk but I think I would like to know.
Feeling really awful today so have rung in sick - puked at school yesterday, which wasn't pleasant. Someone else has been signed off for 2 weeks and they're only 6 weeks so I guess I shouldn't feel too guilty, but I do!!!

ccpink · 23/02/2007 07:52

ps mismap good luck. I'd do the same so think you're doing the right thing. I'm certainly not blooming yet though

EllieG · 23/02/2007 09:48

I've got my scan booked for next week! So excited!

MrsMar · 23/02/2007 10:45

Hi canadianmum,

One great point my sister brought up about Georges, they have the regional specialist centre for neonatal care there, so God forbid anything should happen to our babies, the facilities are right on the doorstep. Sophie Wessex's daughter went there when she was prem... if it's good enough for royalty...

Holly29 · 23/02/2007 14:03

MissMapp, I'm really thinking of you as well. Best of luck with the amnio. Make sure you really look after yourself over the next few weeks. xx

MrsMar · 23/02/2007 14:36

I'm 10 weeks today and my symptoms are pretty much gone. My boobs don't feel sore any more, and for the past two nights have only felt sick in the evenings as opposed to whenever I was hungry before. I'm also nowhere near as tired as before, isn't this a bit early to be losing pregnancy symptoms? Don't get me wrong, I'd be thrilled to be losing them as I move in to the 2nd trimester, but not for any other reasons. Have anyone elses symptoms started disappearing?

atalantis · 23/02/2007 15:21

Me too, Mrs Mar, and I'm only 9+3. I've just come to the conclusion that it's perfectly possible to worry yourself sick when odd things start happening, and to worry yourself sick when things stop happening, so there's potentially no end to the worry! The balance of probabilities is on our side, though. I keep saying to myself, 'I definitely was pregnant when I did the test; nothing major has happened to suggest that I am no longer pregnant; therefore I probably still am pregnant.' Of course, things do go wrong, but it's more important to think that things usually go right.

MrsMar · 23/02/2007 16:15

Wise words Atalantis! I keep telling myself that although it's very disquieting. Every time I think something is going wrong, I'm proved wrong. When I was ttc I was convinced every blood test/sample/proceedure I had would show up some horrid problem, and I was wrong. When I first conceived I was convinced it was ectopic, and I've decided that can't be right as I had such strong implantation pains right in the centre of my abdomen. I'm sure that this time everything is fine, I have no other symptoms, no pains (other than the usual stretching etc) and no bleeding. It's bloomin' hard not to obsess though isn't it?!

MMooMar · 23/02/2007 16:24

missmapp, loads of good luck with the amnio,my best wishes really go out to you.
I`m sure everything will be fine for you.

I never realised that they looked that closely at a dating scan, shows how much I know!

Mrsmar,I have found that I am no longer as tired as i was a couple of weeks ago, just the normal running round after a toddler tired again, the sickness is still lingering on but better on some days than others. The boobs now just kill in the morning when I get up,suppose because they have been free all night! I am 10+1 wks now but with DS the symptoms went on for longer, into 2nd trimester, so could be lucky this time.

missmapp · 23/02/2007 16:47

Thanks for everyones thoughts. Feeling a lot better about things now weve got out of the pressure of the consultants office and know the amnio will give as all the info we need to be forewarned and prepare ourselves for the much anticipated birth of our much loved bubs.

To all those worrying about lack of symptons, i was exactly the same at 9 ish weeks and was so relieved to see the baby on the screen at the scan, i was sure they were going to say ' nothing there mrs jones what were you thinking!'

Keep well and rested.
