Strubo - it's normal to be nervous! I think my recovery was particularly bad compared to how I've seen other people fare with it, so I wouldn't say that is the norm! And good to hear knittinggorilla had fairly good recoveries. Fingers crossed it will all be fine for you!

Strubo · 30/12/2016 23:22

knittinggorilla and mygreensofa thank you both. I had a pretty bad tear after my first which took me a while to recover from so you can't tell either way! It's the thought of not being able to drive that scares me!

TopKittyKat · 31/12/2016 10:11

Morning everyone! How are you all today?

Luchi - I hope you've found books, podcasts etc to entertain you.

I'm approaching 26 weeks and all of a sudden my bump is feeling really heavy and uncomfortable. I am thinking about getting a support belt to see if that helps. Have any of you 2nd, 3rd, 4th timers tried one in your previous pregnancies?

I'm a bit worried I'm feeling like this already and I have potentially 14-16 weeks of growing yet!

peanutbutter310 · 31/12/2016 13:45

Hi ladies, I've been lurking for a while so thought it was about time I said hello. Due with our first on 17 April, team pink! At almost 25 weeks I'm starting to feel pretty heavy as well, dreading what a further 15 weeks of growth is going to feel like!

jpeg28 · 31/12/2016 15:23

Welcome peanut and congrats on being team pink!! I'm due a day after you Smile and I know what you mean about feeling heavy! I'm currently dragging myself around town and I think I need to give up and go home!

peanut2017 · 31/12/2016 15:59

My sister has bought we the belt so will see - think will wait to see what the Physio says first as have read mixed thing online. Some people say that it can restrict the baby in terms of growth? Probably depends on how long you wear it for. Did some floor exercises yesterday and on the gym ball which has definitely helped. Saw on a you tube video by a physiotherapist how to properly move in bed - getting on all fours first rather than moving to your side from being on your back.

25 weeks today Smile and feel like I'm about to explode ha ha

Anyone going to do a first aid course either before or after baby is born? Few people have recommended this to me and I am a bit of a worrier anyway

LuchiMangsho · 31/12/2016 18:56

Hi, thanks for thinking of me. I did a first aid course a while ago. Going to be in hospital on New Years' Eve but always glad to be safe. Yes got plenty of books and podcasts but last night the ward was noisy and I didn't get much sleep so I am hoping to do a bit better tonight. Let's see. I have had a few small bleeds. More spotting than bleeding. Some of these can hide a bigger bleed. But there is some vague talk that if it settles I might be let out. But we have been here before so I am not going to get my hopes up too much!
Here's wishing all of you a Happy New Year.

peanut2017 · 31/12/2016 19:35

Fingers crossed Luchi that you get out soon! Happy new year!

everdene · 01/01/2017 01:12

This will be the year we get our babies!

How has dry Christmas and new year been?

jpeg28 · 01/01/2017 08:38

Happy new year everyone! 2017 will be a good one for all of us!!
I spent the evening with my (very irritating) sister who came round for dinner, then ended up spending a couple of hours "getting ready" and ditched me to go meet her boyfriend, I also had to drive her there! I was actually quite pleased to come home to a nice quiet house and go to bed at 10!! Probably the first time in about 15 years I've not made it to midnight!! Hope you all had lovely NYE's

choccybiscuit · 01/01/2017 08:56

Happy new year!
I'm the opposite jpeg, for the first time in years I actually made it past midnight!
Hope you all had a lovely day

MyGreenSofa · 01/01/2017 09:32

Happy new year! I also didn't get to 12 but had no intention of doing so!

CarryOn2016 · 01/01/2017 10:42

Happy new year!
Could someone please suggest good books for 1st time parents esp guides for a newborn?
Also my parents plan to be with us for 1-2months (as they live abroad), we get on really well with them at the moment, and want to keep it that way :)
We were wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what ground rules we should set?
All the best for 2017!

PinkUnicorn1990 · 01/01/2017 10:56

Hi and happy new year!
Been lurking for a little while and thought I would say hi!
27 weeks today and due 2nd April Grin
Very excited, spent NYE putting up nursery furniture with DH. We know how to celebrate... didn't make 12 either!Grin

TopKittyKat · 01/01/2017 14:20

Hi peanut and pinkunicorn

Hmm maybe I have to do some more research before getting a belt.

I was at a party last night and made it to 1am. I'm rather impressed with myself! Haven't been up that late in ages.

pinkunicorn - that sounds a lovely way to spend NYE.

Luchi - that sounds promising. I hope you do make the great escape soon!

Carryon - in a first timer too, so no real advice. I'm sure some of the others who are already mummys will come along with some advice.

I'm having a lazy day today tucked up on the sofa reading while DH sleeps off his hangover. Hopefully tomorrow we'll be back on the DIY.

Happy new year everyone!

RaRa25 · 01/01/2017 15:25

Happy New Year everyone!
Not been on hear much as I have been busy with my family over from OZ, they left today so feeling pretty depressed. Although on the bright side, think we are going to spend Xmas over there this year.

Luchi I hope you get to go home, even if it's for a little bit.
Exciting to hear all about the Pram purchases. We are going to get ours down from the loft tomorrow and check we have all the bits.
Bought a few baby grows and vests the other day eeek!
Just need to think of names now. We have no clue, I love DD's name and just can't seem to fall in love with another.

peanut2017 · 01/01/2017 17:17

RaRa we are finding it hard to pick names. We don't know what we are having but are convinced it's s boy. Kind of ok with the girls names but find boys quite difficult.

Made it up to 2am last night. My sister was over from U.K. With work so was lovely to see her for a few hours and my parents came up for dinner.

Feeling tired today and lay down for an hour and a half! Do you think I could sleep???? Na not a chance

Going to meet a friend of my husbands and his wife for dinner soon. Could easily stay in my pjs but will make the effort. Feel like I'm 10 again meeting people I don't know.

The countdown is well and truly on now until our arrivals Smile

marmitecheesetoast · 02/01/2017 12:34

Happy New Year all! This is the year we will have our babies, eek! Shock

Can't help on a book suggestion carryon as a first timer myself but interested in any other suggestions?

Hi and welcome pinkunicorn!

We are also struggling on the names shortlist - we have 3 or 4 girls names that we both really like, but really struggling with boys names. We've got 2 or 3 we both 'don't mind' but don't really love either and can't agree on anything else Hmm so this is making me think even more than I already was that this is going to be a boy!!

Is anyone else finding their bump is really starting to get in the way now?! Putting socks on and doing laces up becoming a pain, feel like I can't breathe when I bend over!

MyGreenSofa · 02/01/2017 14:49

With regards to books - I had 'what to expect: the first year' which wasn't bad for a bit of reference on some common issues and timescales for milestones. Found it much less prescriptive than 'what to expect when you're expecting' which I wouldn't recommend particularly. I'm currently reading ToddlerCalm which has some nice elements so I imagine the BabyCalm book would too. But whatever approach you end up reading please be assured that your baby will decide to behave in the complete opposite way!

Helbelle75 · 02/01/2017 15:26

Happy New year everyone!
Can't believe I'm back at work tomorrow - only 12 weeks maximum at work to go though. That feels odd!

Hope you're on luchi. Any more news on whether you'll be allowed out?

Hello pink unicorn and peanut. We'd booked on the red cross first aid for children course. It seemed like a good move as we're both naturally anxious people.

We've got 'your pregnancy bible' carryon and it's good. Quite basic I think, but nice to dip in and out of.

We've spent the last couple of days sorting the nursery as we have the wardrobe arriving on Thursday and the cot is currently on the hall! We've washed all of the ickle clothes and have baby hospital bag ready. Very exciting!

We also started out antenatal classes last week. I'm only 26 weeks, but it was really useful and I'm glad we chose an earlier course. It's a local midwife who runs them and she's great!.

Next midwife appointment is on Thursday. Will be quite pleased to go as am classed as geriatric, but have just had a normal journey so far. Assumedly as baby and I are both healthy and on track, but nice to be reassured!

Hope everyone's doing well.

Saffi5 · 02/01/2017 20:28

Hello ladies Smile
My first post on mumsnet! I am expecting my first baby on April 22nd and just found this thread. I'm looking forward on reading the last few pages and hearing all about what everyone else has been experiencing and planning.

I'm 25 weeks pregnant and (hopefully) now recovering from a bout of tonsilitis which I came down with on Christmas Eve. Well done to me, perfect timing to ruin all of the time off work and the holidays, and now I feel almost ready to go back to the office tomorrow Grin

CarryOn2016 · 02/01/2017 20:31

Thank you MYGreenSofa and Helbelle75.
WIll have a look at the books, just want some ideas and then see how it goes.
marmitecheesetoast Boy names not easy either for us - I think we plan to shortlist 2 or 3 and see what the baby looks like

LuchiMangsho · 02/01/2017 21:00

I am, very tentatively, HOME. Been told that given I bleed every 7 days I won't be home for long but to enjoy the peace and company while I can.

MyGreenSofa · 02/01/2017 21:50

Good news Luchi Grin

marmitecheesetoast · 02/01/2017 22:02
