I've heard mixed reviews about the wayfarer Raspberry my advice on the pram thing would be to book in for the John Lewis nursery service. You get to play around with them all and they even have a weight you can put in to simulate how they handle with a baby.

I didn't buy anything til really late on last time. I was classed as high risk and I put it off as long as I could. There will be loads of sales after Christmas if you do wait.

lucieloos · 23/10/2016 19:36

I saw them all in John Lewis it looked fab definitely going to book in for that. I've heard they are very helpful. I'm going to wait for the 20 week anomaly scan and then cautiously start to buy things after that.

Ghostonthedancefloor · 23/10/2016 19:41

Had my scan date through finally and also appt with the consultant for Friday which I'm working Sad

I'm going to try and change it but I'm sure I remember from last time that the consultants are only in my local hospital once a week.

I'm absolutely DREADING telling work. But I can't keep changing appointments. All my midwife appts are on a day I work too.

Is anyone else in this position re telling work? My manager is utterly shit she's a miserable old cow and will literally roll her eyes and say something like "for gods sake" when I tell her.

RedBlu · 23/10/2016 19:46

I am 11 weeks tomorrow, suffering with horrendous sickness and nausea to the point I am signed off work.

I am rather pissed off as my dating scan isn't till mid November and I will be at the end of week 13. I tried asking them for something closer but they were less than helpful.

LorrieJ · 23/10/2016 19:53

Thanks Esme it is a relief. I've been quite bubbly since.

Ghost you have my sympathy. Not now, but my employers during my first pregnancy were awful. It's worth spotting up on your legal rights, what you need to declare and when etc if you don't already know all that. If memory serves, the ACAS website is useful.
Do you have a HR department you could consult in confidence about your worries before telling your line manager?

dreamofhungarianlanterns · 23/10/2016 20:21

Ghost I told my boss a couple of weeks ago at week 10 (scan this week). I had really to as she had asked me to take on two extra areas of work and one of them is brand new and timing means I just won't be there for it. Boss has a fierce reputation but has always been good with the people that report to her. Her reaction was, 'personally I'm really pleased for you but... shit'. Which I'm taking as a compliment because I know she'll be good about it.

I'm really sorry that you're dreading it, and it sounds like your situation is rather different, but it has made it easier for me with booking off appointments so fingers and toes crossed for you that there will be some unexpected upsides??

Ghostonthedancefloor · 23/10/2016 20:23

I think so lorrie, I know the law is on our side it's just day to day every time I have to mention an appt or need time off I will be met with huffs and puffs and head shakes. It sounds unbelievable written down but it's exactly how she is. She's like a stroppy teenager. Unapproachable at the best of times just now we have 3 people recently gone on sick for the foreseeable so we're under a lot of pressure at the mo. I suppose I have to just put my big boy pants on and get on with it.

Ghostonthedancefloor · 23/10/2016 20:26

Thanks dream, I suppose it's the initial "cough cough can I have a word in private please?" Aah I'm cringing just thinking about it! At the end of the day it's tough shit though isn't it? I'll only be away for an hour tops. They'll manage!

WishIWasSleeping · 23/10/2016 20:27

I went to John Lewis nursery service for our first baby. I didn't look pregnant until around 7 months but they never questioned my non-bump! They will do you a demonstration for any car seats, isofix and pushchairs, hubby and I found them so helpful.
I also brought the wayfarer, measured my boot, (fiesta) measurements worked out with a few cm spare. There's a certain knack to fitting it all in the boot lying flat. I gave up quite quickly, put the wheels in the boot on their side and the carrycot/pushchair sits on the back seat with baby. Much less faffing. Plus the pushchair doesn't fold flat with the seat parent facing and attached.which I find strange! Will def be using it for number two for solo walks though as baby was so comfy in it.

teainbed · 23/10/2016 20:57

Congrats to everyone who has had a scan, I've been on holiday and not keeping up but they look like they've all been good news.

I'm a bit superstitious and have problems in late pregnancy so don't buy much until near the end. And even then I don't get everything until the baby is here! But that is just me. Smile

But if there is a good deal and you feel ok about buying it why not? You could always sell stuff later on if things didn't work out.

Googling exercise DVDs this evening has anyone bought one yet?

trinityrabbit · 23/10/2016 22:29

Peach was thinking edd might change again at 12w scan, I've been pretty symptom free too except being exhausted. Can edd change again at the 20w scan does anyone know?

Glad to hear stretching pains are normal. I guess we're all almost a thurd of the way there so we should be feeling something!

raspberry I'm too nervous to buy anything at all yet but plenty of people do so do what you feel. It's great to start feeling excited and plan...I know everything I am going to buy, except the pram/travel system!

trinityrabbit · 23/10/2016 22:30

*Third!!

talulahbelle · 24/10/2016 07:00

We've got an uppababy Vista, bought second hand for DD. She's just finished with it at 2.3 (refuses to sit in it) so I am planning on disassembling, cleaning and storing until next May.
We really loved it, big basket space, v easy to steer, comfy. Definitely one to check out.

10+5 here and feeling very slightly less sick although still very tired. DD having a lie in which is nice, we are off to my mums when she's up for breakfast, then she's staying there while I come home to work.

MissMooMoo · 24/10/2016 07:38

I have already decided we are either getting a bugaboo bee or an icandy raspberry, just need to go try them out at the shop, probably in the new year.
We live in London and use public transport a lot so have based our decision mostly on that, also live in a flat so don't have a ton of storage space.

teainbed · 24/10/2016 08:14

The 12 week scan fixes your due date. Growth after this is variable and your due date wouldn't change with your 20 week scan.

lingo · 24/10/2016 08:28

Well at 11+5 I finally had my first bout of morning vomiting rather than just dry heaving or nausea...cue mascara running down my face as I try to get out the door to a week long conferenceHmm
My scan is next Monday and keeping fingers crossed all is going as it should following a good scan at 10+5 (when I thought I was 7+1!)

FoxMulder · 24/10/2016 09:02

I bought a pram for DS thinking it was this essential bit of baby kit but I hardly ever used it. In fact, the handful of times I did use it was because I had bought it so I thought I should get some use. I found it cumbersome and annoying plus I just felt uncomfortable being separated from the baby. Which I know sounds a bit mad but you get quite attached after they've lived inside you for 9 months! Sling all the way this time.

stationaryace · 24/10/2016 09:31

I added a Star Wars babygro to my last H&M order as they only had one size left (0-3) and it's super cute, but the rest of the order was stuff for my toddler anyway. We're planning on reusing as many of her clothes as we can get away with so I don't really see it as different to that.

There's plenty of time to buy prams yet. Shop sales are usually twice a year and I didn't use my pram much for the first month or so. I have a few slings so will be using my stretchy wrap initially, leaving hands free for the whirlwind toddler.

CinnamonTwist · 24/10/2016 10:09

We started looking at prams recently, and after an extensive online research this weekend think we like the look of the Phil and teds 'sport' pram, we are quite rural and love dogwalking, so I want something that can go off-road, although I expect to get a sling too it would help to have flexibility. The other nice thing is that it's compatible with the maxi cosi pebble car seat, which we both really like. So we hope to go and have a look at all of these sometime and hopefully confirm our choice!

Anyone got any suggestions on slings? They are next on my list to look at, along with cots. We won't actually buy anything big until the new year, but it's nice to make decisions still!!

notasillysausage · 24/10/2016 10:23

Hi, can I join please. I am 8+6, due 31st May. I have 1 DS but also had 2mcs (one missed).

I'm really nervous as my symptoms keep coming and going and had some very slight spotting yesterday. I have just booked a private scan for Friday evening hopefully for some reassurance Confused

It's exciting reading about everyone's scans!

stationaryace · 24/10/2016 12:24

Cinnamon you should see if there are any sling libraries or local group meetings near you where you can see the wide range available and hire some out to start with. If not then there are some places that do online hires UK-wide. Realistically if you're carrying from the start then your first sling is only going to be suitable for a few months before it's outgrown so hiring can be cheaper/easier. I have a stretchy wrap, a mai-tai, a ring sling and a soft-structured carrier (ssc) - Lillebaby - with buckles so I'm probably not supposed to buy any more Grin. The first two I used for 6 months then had to shift to different types as she got bigger. Just don't fall for the pretties or it'll cost a small fortune.

lucieloos · 24/10/2016 13:07

Welcome sausage, it's a nerve wracking time but hopefully your scan will reassure you.

I've just had my booking in appt which was lots of form filling. She booked me for my 12 week scan on 15th Nov. For those that are having the harmony test or similar will you still have the nuchal scan? She said harmony is 99% accurate for downs and nuchal is 80-85% so is there any point?

EsmesBees · 24/10/2016 13:15

Welcome sausage

cinnamon we have the manduca sling which you can use from newborn up to toddler. It's very kind on the back. We also had a close caboo stretchy wrap which was invaluable for the early months (only thing she'd nap in for ages).

I'd agree with fox on the pram front. We had a bassinet for our uppababy Cruz which she absolutely hated, so if I had my time again I would save the money (although the buggy itself is great and we still use it most days).

Streaky17 · 24/10/2016 13:46

Thanks stationary for the sling library tip there is one close to me. Smile Hopefully they will be helpful.

I was buying presents for my niece last week so looked at cots and travel systems in the same shop just so I won't be overwhelmed when we do go to look but not planning to until much later.
