Thanks all. I better get on the phone then. Have 20 week scan in for 20th Dec.

1004Rise · 04/11/2016 07:36

Just stood at the cooker for 5 minutes trying to make porridge without turning the cooker on - baby brain is real HmmBlush

Brightsmoke · 04/11/2016 09:06

Those who chose to be SAMP after having your first, how did you decide for definite? Me and DH are currently debating what's best. I have a 'proper' job with a decent income, with potential to be on a very good wage, DHs job is long hours but top tier tax bracket.

My job is 12hr shift work. Which means days that baby would need looking after will be for 13 hours. Parents and in laws aren't close enough to baby sit on a regular occurrence. So now I'm thinking about quitting my job after maternity leave, but there is NO WAY I can get back into the job later on without applying and waiting 2years. I don't have a problem working in a supermarket or learning a new trade, but on the whole I love my job and don't know if going into another field would be the same? I want to work once child is older to show them good work ethic from both parents. But having someone child mind or getting a nanny for 13 hour days is horrible to think about.

Financially, my money is 'fun money' currently, but with baby I don't know if we could live the same lifestyle on DH wage (I know that everything will change when baby comes anyway, but we do live a nice life that I won't give up without a fight)

Sorry, that's wayyyy longer than I thought it would be!

RasperryInAMelon · 04/11/2016 09:13

Bright forgive me... SAMP??

EsmesBees · 04/11/2016 09:17

I think Bright meant to type SAHP- stay at home parents. When do you need to decide Bright? If it's not until after maternity leave then I wouldn't rush into a decision. You might feel differently about being home all the time once the little one is here. Is there any possibility of flexible working in your current role?

FoxMulder · 04/11/2016 09:21

I am almost a SAHM Bright. I was FT but I only went back to 2x3hrs. When it came to going back in just couldn't do it. I was still breastfeeding loads and I just couldn't bear to leave him even though it was with MIL. But my job wasn't so great though. A lot better than the one I do now but still not one you would want to do for life.

Brightsmoke · 04/11/2016 09:52

Sorry, yeah SAHP 🙈

I don't need to decide until after maternity, but I like to plan and be organised, think I'm in for a shock soon lol.

I can go flexi/part time, but the best they can do is still 12 hour shifts, but 2-4 days or nights rather than a mix, the nature of my job just doesn't allow me to do shorter shifts!

My DH says the same as you Esmes I may love being at home all the time with the baby, or hate it and want to go back to work as soon as possible! My mum was a SAHP, and I don't want someone else bringing up my child really, even if it turns out to be a devil child and I can't stand being in the same room Grin I do have a fantastic maternity package (I didn't think it was that great but after reading what most people get I've changed my mind), so I can be off for nearly a year before my salary disappears. Maybe I'll just have to be patient and wait it out!

Thanks for the advice :)

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 04/11/2016 09:57

Anne Moo Gurtie good morning! Scan day today. How are you all feeling?

I had strangest dreams last night (holding a baby, bleeding, telling everyone I'm pregnant)... My trip to the hospital from work has been planned with military precision. Fingers crossed for us all.

AnneLovesGilbert · 04/11/2016 10:54

Thanks for the bra advice Lorrie. My issue wasn't the band, but the cup size. I've gone up two already, they're just enormous. And the veins....

At least you're getting well dones Fox, grow, Barnes and Badger! Good baby growing Grin

Not a clue on the 16 weeker, think it's at the GP surgery. Might ask them at the hospital later.

Thanks for the good wishes for scan. I woke up super early and just lay there thinking about meeting our baby for the first time. Super jittery to be honest but mainly excited. If all is well we'll tell my DSC this weekend. Hope scan buddies are all feeling okay.

Weird dreams ImYourWoman, unsettling or just odd? Hope you're doing alright.

EsmesBees · 04/11/2016 10:58

My 16 wk appointment just came through the post here. It will be at my local GP surgery with the midwife. Much better than last time traipsing up to the hospital everytime to see the consultant.

AnneLovesGilbert · 04/11/2016 11:19

Is it administered by the hospital, who arrange it with the community midwife at the GP Esmes?

I'm also due a consultant appointment at some point, was put under review at my booking appointment, but not sure how that's arranged. Any ideas?

MissMooMoo · 04/11/2016 11:25

I also am having a community midwife at a clinic thats not my surgery(very call the midwife style!) But its close to home.

Hope it all goes well to us having scans today. Have also planned our trip to the hospital with extra time as we will be driving there during the school run time.

Adventuregame · 04/11/2016 11:33

The midwife booked my Consultant appointment before I left my booking in.

teainbed · 04/11/2016 11:37

Bright is it a role you can freelance in? Would it be hard to get into it again if you left for good? I probably would have liked to be a SAHM for a bit but I would eventually lose my license to practice and have to retrain so it's a no brainer but freelancing has suited me over the years.

I've told my main place of work today, they were lovely. Bit gutted that I'm leaving them in the lurch as they're very short staffed (lots of women having babies ironically).

McBaby · 04/11/2016 11:51

12 week scan all good today. Measuring 13+4. Hoping I can stop stressing for now.

MissMooMoo · 04/11/2016 11:53

Great news mcbaby!!

Adventuregame · 04/11/2016 11:58

Excellent news McBaby

Great news McBaby!

Anne the dreams are a pretty accurate reflection of what I feel at he moment, excited and unsettled... Hour and a half to go until departure time. I'll kill DP if he's late to pick me up.

My 16 week appointment with community midwife has been put in the diary while I was there for the booking appointment (it's all handwritten and old school).

Consultant appt date came in through the post, I'm considered high risk due to previous ECS and pre-eclampsia. I hope they won't try to persuade me to have natural birth, I don't want to go through that again...

Gurtie28 · 04/11/2016 12:13

I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!! Roll on 3pm!

I realise I should be a little anxious....but I'm just not GrinGrinGrin

EsmesBees · 04/11/2016 12:22

That's great mcbaby

anne everything is arranged via the midwife team in my Trust. So it's the same team they just offer some appts in the hospital and some in the community. Last time (a different Trust) there seemed to be a dual appointment system for the consultant and the midwifes that did not interact in any way. It was really annoying and inflexible.

I'd give them a call to make sure your appts haven't been lost in the system.

Badgerbird · 04/11/2016 12:30

Fantastic news mcbaby!!

You just enjoy being excited gurtie!! Grin It is exciting!

AnneLovesGilbert · 04/11/2016 12:32

So happy for you McBaby , fantastic news!

Gurtie that's really good, sure it'll be fab, enjoy!

Good advice on appointments, thank you. I'll ask later when I'm there and call my surgery as well.

I'm ridiculously nervous and really want to cry. Just want to be there now.

teainbed · 04/11/2016 12:33

I've had preeclampsia Jon are you taking aspirin?

teainbed · 04/11/2016 12:33

Great news McBaby!

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 04/11/2016 12:40

teainbed My midwife gave me a box of aspirin and advised me to start taking it, but she also said that I may want to get the second opinion from consultant before. So I'm waiting to get the second opinion before, I don't want to be taking meds unless they feel it's necessary. My high blood pressure only came during labour anyway and was fine during pregnancy so I don't feel like I need to deal with it right away.

I have started taking potassium supplements though as I read that potassium helps prevent high blood pressure and also the dreaded water retention, I was bloated like a balloon last time.
