We are planning to go to the gym in the morning and then he has bit of work to do so I am going to go to the shopping centre with his auntie for some lunch and shopping (she knows) hopefully the time will pass quickly.
I am having a night out tonight with some friends. The host is french and I just KNOW there will be lots of wine and banned cheeses. I am assuming everyone will guess.
Also swinging between excitment and panic.

AnneLovesGilbert · 03/11/2016 11:43

Sounds like a nice day Smile

Enjoy your night too!

Adventuregame · 03/11/2016 12:01

We had a consultant appointment today (pre existing medical condition) and heard heartbeat on Doppler. Totally wasn't expecting it !

shirley that is proper crap about your scan being too late to do nt! It's their fault so they should squeeze you in!

Re weight gain, I seem to have gained 5kg! Although I lost 3 to start with so 2kg total.

McBaby · 03/11/2016 14:28

Your breast tissue goes all the wAy back under your armpit so the wires can press on it and could cause blocked ducts or mastitis in pregnancy but more likely afterwards when breastfeeding. It's harder to get a well fitting underwired bra in pregmanct as breast tissue is continuously developing and growing! So you mY need to go for new underwired bras every few weeks.

FoxMulder · 03/11/2016 14:31

Yeah, wired bras are OK as long as they fit properly ie not sitting on any breast tissue. A lot of people are still adding inches to their back size so they have too big a band and too small a cup and the wires sit on the breast tissue at the sides.

FoxMulder · 03/11/2016 14:34

I was just about to buy an underwired bra after years in skeggy nursing bras when I found out I was pregnant...mind you, I have trouble with underwires because my breastbone isn't quite straight.

McBaby · 03/11/2016 14:44

Saying that I will be staying in underwires as long as I can after bf my other two for nearly 2.5 years with a six month break while pregnant.

I found these sofa bras great even for my v large 36hh I am wearing them now for sleeping in so comfortable.

talulahbelle · 03/11/2016 15:22

12 week scan today and all looking good, phew. Now we can start to tell people!

AnneLovesGilbert · 03/11/2016 15:32

Yay talulah! So excited for you Grin

Is anyone finding that when you do tell people and your DH/DP is there you get a congrats and they get a hearty well done, sometimes a handshake?

We've been busted a few times and told a couple of people, and it's becoming a pattern!

I agree he did a great job but I was there too! And I'm the one with the bun in the oven!

LorrieJ · 03/11/2016 15:48

What Fox said about underwiring restricting breastfeeding tissue/ milk duct development.
If you're crafty, you can get clips to convert normal (pretty) ones in to nursing bras afterwards. I'm sick of the monstrosities I've been wearing too so fully intend to try this / find someone who knows what they're doing with a needle this time around.
In terms of wearing underwires when breastfeeding, it's possible but not recommended until your supply has settled.
The band on a non-underwired bra should provide all the support you need. However, if you get measured somewhere that still uses the +4 form of measurement, it'll be too loose to provide enough support. Rough estimate, your band will be your dress size plus 20, ie I'm a 12 therefore 32 band. Old way, I was always a 34/36B, new way (pre-preggers) I'm a 32E.
There's a closed group on FB with a measurement tool on it if you want to work your own out. Am I allowed to say what the group is called on here or will mumsnet give me a kicking?

FoxMulder · 03/11/2016 17:07

Who was it that was saying about people having funny reactions? Guy at work today gave me a hug (I didn't realise we were on hugging terms!) said "well done" (for having sex?) then asked me if it was planned. I like him and I found it funny but I can see how someone else would find it really inappropriate!

stationaryace · 03/11/2016 18:04

I tried grabbing some from M&S myself but they were completely the wrong size and very uncomfortable. I found Bravissimo had the best bra selection last time but I've just gone to check their range online now and it's rubbish! Hotmilk was the brand that fitted me best and looked the least ugly. I didn't change underwear until after the baby arrived, probably because I was wearing the wrong size, but also I didn't put on much weight last time (thanks GD, I was so concerned about blood sugar going high I ended up sticking to a very small range of foods for the last trimester). This time I'll probably need to size up by the new year.

Flingmoo · 03/11/2016 20:06

I got all my maternity bras in Mothercare last time round and they were great. So comfy and supportive even with no underwire. I can't believe I'm only 11 weeks and my boobs have already grown back with a vengeance. I'll have to crack out the maternity bras again soon. It's a perk of being pregnant I suppose!

growcookeat · 03/11/2016 20:16

Good to get advice on bras - I'm completely lost! I tried on some m&s non wired bras yesterday and they were terrible! They made my boobs look saggy and a funny shape. Tried a few different sizes so don't think it was that. I didn't try the nursing bras though as they have such a small selection in our store. More online ordering for me I think!

Yes Anne! My DH keeps getting well done and pats on the back. I also got a text saying 'clever girl' from mil which was confusing Confused

Barnes79 · 03/11/2016 20:16

Fox my father-in-law said "who's a clever girl then" when he first saw me after we told him the news.

growcookeat · 03/11/2016 20:52

Also was wondering - did anyone's mw give them info about the 16wk appointment? I don't know if I'm meant to book it or if they contact me?!

Badgerbird · 03/11/2016 21:14

Oooh congratulations talullahSmilehave fun telling people and acting like a "proper" preggo now!

Yep we've had quite a few "well dones" and "aren't you clever".... rather odd!

Good luck for scans tomoz anne missy and lala. Hope I haven't missed anyone and that your day flies by till scan time. Sounds like you've got a nice one planned missy and I was the same as you anne and was pleased to be at work beforehand!

Thanks anne we are so relieved :)

Streaky17 · 03/11/2016 21:16

grow I booked mine with the midwife at the end of the booking apt. Not sure if that is the norm.

RasperryInAMelon · 03/11/2016 21:56

Grow ours got booked at our booking appt too... 5th Dec!

PeachIcedT · 03/11/2016 22:08

My 16 week was originally booked by midwife at booking in appointment but then cancelled and I had to contact my GP surgery to rebook with the midwife there which was easy enough.

Good luck to all those with scans tomorrow, from what I can remember there are quite a few happening!

MrsJW15 · 03/11/2016 22:17

We booked our 16 week appointment at the end of the booking in appointment, and then our 20 week scan at the end of the 12 week scan.

MissMooMoo · 03/11/2016 23:22

Mine was booked at booking in too for Nov 29, will just be 15 weeks then.
