No I decided against the early scan as I didn't think it would reassure me for any longer than about an hour so decided to tough it out to the 12 weeks but now I'm wishing I'd been scanned every week ! Ha !

Big hand hold Adventure x Hope you've got someone looking after you.

And you Moo, I hope the anxiety begins to fade as the weeks go by. I haven't seen my baby yet, can't wait. So so so so desperately hope all is okay in there.

RasperryInAMelon · 31/10/2016 17:12

Ah I didn't realise Adventure! Lots of love coming your way! Wednesday will soon be here!!

Gurtie28 · 31/10/2016 17:26

Anne JonSnow Moo can I join the club please!? Scan this Friday 15:10 - I am so excited, I had a dream that I got an app which meant I could use my phone as a Doppler... I am now so so excited to hear the heartbeat beat at the scan Grin
JonSnow are you able to find out the sex on Friday? I thought that was only possible at 20 week scan? Me and hubby can't decide if we want to find out or not - 20 week scan could possibly fall on our birthdays so may be a nice present!!

FoxMulder · 31/10/2016 17:47

I'm happy to wait until Weds Anne. I'm feeling remarkably chilled out about the whole thing.

Throughgrittedteeth · 31/10/2016 18:17

I had my scan last Thursday bright so far so good! When's yours?
Those with sickness, I've lost over a stone now and my thought is that if I need to eat I'll eat whatever I can/want. Mostly onion humous and crusty bread, pasta, chips and crisps. I've only started having vegetables again this week and having three meals rather than just picky snacks.
I spoke to the midwife about it and she said it was sensible to eat whatever I can so that I'm at least eating. Hoping my appetite comes back soon!

Brightsmoke · 31/10/2016 19:28

Mine was last Friday Through. Spoke too soon and feeling nauseous again tonight whilst making dinner and chocolate cake :( good job DH came home to take over!

lingo · 31/10/2016 19:30

I had my NHS scan today after a private scan two weeks ago, due date back one day to 11th May and everything looks good- best moment was hearing my baby's heartbeat!

Throughgrittedteeth Sounds like your appetite is starting to come back then? I still don't fancy anything and the thought of food seems to make me even more queasy, but once a meal is in front of me I can usually eat it. It just makes it a bit difficult planning meals or making a shopping list as it's a bit like going shopping when you're full and don't fancy anything!

Lovely scan lingo, I'm always surprised how much they look like a 'real' baby already!

Gurtie28 With our first baby, I kind of wanted to find out the gender but DH didn't really want to. We both kept an open mind though as we didn't know whose choice to go with. When we went in for the scan we were still unsure and the sonographer was like "So, do you want to know the gender or not?" I looked at DH and said "Well, we're not sure..." and DH said "Go on, we can find out if you want to!". Turns out he had actually SEEN a little penis on the scan so the surprise was already ruined for him anyway, meanwhile I hadn't noticed it. Grin So by that point he thought the sonographer might as well confirm it and we both found out.

Knowing the gender does make it easier to buy clothes etc in advance. I'm a fan of gender neutral stuff and not stereotyping but unfortunately most kids clothes are so gendered it's hard finding neutral stuff. So this time round I'll be finding out again if possible.

growcookeat · 31/10/2016 19:52

Ahh lovely scan pic!

So I finally told the family yesterday on my (30th) birthday. Will be the first grandchild for both sides so they were over the moon. We then let most of our friends know too, lots of whom had already guessed! It's a bit of a relief not to have to watch every word I say. Just work left to tell now really.

I'm literally living in one pair of leggings until my maternity leggings/tights arrive in the post.

Good luck to everyone who has scan this week.

dreamofhungarianlanterns · 31/10/2016 20:30

Welcome newbies! Fab scan pics keep them coming and fingers and toes crossed for everyone.

Thanks for your guesses about the sex, I had 1 vote for a girl and 3 votes for a boy - one of which was the sonographers. He stressed it's not definite and I never expected to have an inkling at this stage. Nothing to do with which sex, just the shock of being given a clue rendered DP speechless for about 2 hours!!

Maternity coat from new look arrived tonight. Tried on and wailed to DP - where's the maternity in this??!! It'll last me about another 3 weeks. Humph.

Ghostonthedancefloor · 31/10/2016 20:39

adventure try not to worry about the link with the shoulder pain. I'm sure if it was ectopic you would know about it by now.

Lovely scan lingo. I was put back a day on my scan too. It's amazing how different they still can look though as there is only 4 days between us. I'll attach a pic of my little (big!) jalapeño now.

dream you might aswell get that blue paint out now Halloween Wink

Ghostonthedancefloor · 31/10/2016 20:42

Here's my naughty one! It was so cute though. He/she just would not get their hand away from their face, and at one point was playing with the nose! It's so so amazing. What our bodies can create in a matter of weeks.

Adventuregame · 31/10/2016 21:32

Thanks Ghost - think I'm just being irrational now !! Just got to get thro tomorrow then Wednesday morning I'll know one way or the other.
Anyone else got a Wednesday scan ?

I got my maternity clothes box out the loft today and picked a few nice tops I can start wearing already... A lot of the jeans were from later on the in pregnancy and they are absolutely massive. I was given them half way through the first pregnancy from someone who'd just had twins and I remember thinking "these are huge, I'll never grow that big!" but by 30+ weeks I was wearing them. It's weird holding them up again now knowing I'll be elephant sized in a few months!

dreamofhungarianlanterns · 31/10/2016 21:49

ghost that little hand! Bless.

Badgerbird · 31/10/2016 22:03

Busy thread today!

Hello and big congrats to newbies!

Loving the scan piccies, so so cute!! I absolutely loved hearing the heartbeat, amazing! I was also surprised to see how much our blob was moving about.

Good luck and fingers crossed for scans this week Smile

I've been feeling a bit grumpy this eve, so thrilled to be so far finally having a healthy pregnancy (more crossing fingers) so hope this doesn't come across wrong but feeling proper fat & uncomfortable in my clothes at the mo. Eating healthy but I am more hungry than usual and Ofcourse it helps with the nausea Confused I know it's coz I'm preggo & on extra progesterone so I'm being bloody stupid but looking forward to a more neat bump very soon! I'm gonna blame the tiredness & Hormones!

stationaryace · 31/10/2016 22:07

They don't tell us the sex at our hospital, you need to book a private scan somewhere. I've been told it was because they had difficulty figuring it out for the very large ladies, and as the NHS don't want to turn around and tell someone they are too fat they're leaving it up to the private scans. No idea how much truth is in that as we left it as a surprise last time and probably will again.

Oh I tried to go to a doctors appointment without shoes. Got my toddler all dressed and shoes on at the front door and forgot to repeat it for me.

newbieho · 01/11/2016 03:05

I had a dating scan on Halloween, hope that the baby won't be an evil Halloween Wink it's official - I'm 12+3 with DD 12 May. It's an amazing feeling to hear the baby's heartbeat and see her/him moving. I have been offered Harmony test at King's due to their research programme but so far they said I'm at low risk. The pregnancy and parenthood became suddenly so real ShockGrin

Sonnet18 · 01/11/2016 05:19

adventure I also have my scan on Wednesday. I should be 12+5 that day. Try not to worry re the pains you've been having. My understanding of shoulder tip pain from internal bleeding is severe and intense...ie it would take your breath away and you'd struggle to get about. Similarly your pain in your side would be intense and you may need to lie down etc...if that applies to you then get to hospital, if not then get off google and have as chilled a day as you can!

Sonnet18 · 01/11/2016 06:25

Can I ask a maternity leave question- feel free to ignore if you feel I'm being too nosy!

How much money is everyone planning to have saved for their mat leave? I took 9 months last time (2 of which were paid holidays) and had my first 3 months full pay. I had about 5k saved for my 4 months on just smp but didn't use it all...I want the full year this time but don't know realistically what I will need and how much I can save up in six months!

EsmesBees · 01/11/2016 06:41

Lovely scan pics. Feels like such a long wait til the 9th for mine.

I don't think we'll be able to save anything this time Sonnet. All our spare money goes on nursery for dd1. I found maternity leave pretty inexpensive last time, it's when I went back to work things got tight.

Sonnet18 · 01/11/2016 07:08

Thanks, it's the same for me esme which is why I was asking...We spend a lot on nursery fees and, although both of us are in professional jobs, neither of us earn particularly highly!

EsmesBees · 01/11/2016 07:20

Ah I see. It's so expensive isn't it? I must say I am dreading having two in childcare and the impact it will have on our finances. But I reckon it will be worth it in the long run to have two close in age.

RasperryInAMelon · 01/11/2016 07:45

Esme and Sonnet DH and I are hoping to have something saved... I'm intending on taking 9 months on SMP only (c £130 pw) and have worked out our finances so far ahead that after bills and food for DH and I we will still have a surplus of approx £700 a month between us.

We recently got married and had a family property sell which between the two has put £10k in the bank for us, but as this is our first baby, we need to decorate and buy (if not donated) everything really so we are anticipating a good few thousand to go on decorating the nursery, furniture and a pushchair at least.

That should then leave us absolute minimum of £5k to get us through my maternity leave, or as you mention - to not use but support us once I'm back at work with childcare fees.

It's certainly going to be an interesting 9 months while I'm off!
