Wow what a stressful day! I woke up to brown blood in my knickers this morning and then more on and off through the day. I have been in meltdown but I managed to get a private scan this evening and everything is absolutely fine with the baby. It's still measuring 4 days ahead so she put me at 10w3d instead of the 9w6d that I am and we got to hear the heartbeat which was amazing. She said it was really good and strong and I got a little heart beat bear with the sound on...complete sucker for marketing gimmicks lol. She had a really good look around and said if I hadn't of said about the bleeding she probably wouldn't have noticed but she thought she could see a really tiny bruise in the uterus. She said its normal and it's just like getting a little bruise on your arm or somewhere. She said she has seen people with huge ones and they have been fine. She said she wouldn't expect much more bleeding if it was from that. I asked if there were any signs of miscarriage and she said no definitely not, the cervix is closed, the baby is still nice and high and everything looks good. She had a look around for cysts and polyps etc but again nothing so that has put our minds at rest a bit as we really were expecting the worst. We have another scan Saturday with the harmony so that's good.

Here's the one causing all the trouble! I can't believe how much it has changed since our last scan at 7w5d it looks like a proper baby now!

Badgerbird · 27/10/2016 20:23

lucie what a nightmare!!! Thank god all is very well indeed! I know you were already nervous about waiting till SatSmile

grow glad to hear your scan went well and there really is a little baby in there ;)

mamushka sorry to hear you are still feeling really rough. Hope the appletize helps.

Thanks tea and anne, the fluctuating symptoms play tricks on your mind don't they!

teainbed · 27/10/2016 21:29

Oh lucie what a stressful day for you, glad it had a happy ending. Shame we can't have Winewhen we need it!

Streaky17 · 27/10/2016 21:48

Glad to hear all is OK for you Lucie ! Great pic

I got the date of my scan 1 week on weds so I should be 12+2. Scared and excited! What sensitive questions do they ask, that the oh might need be out of the room for?

WishIWasSleeping · 27/10/2016 22:04

I don't really remember them asking any Q's.. they don't talk to you like the midwife does as they don't need to do the fact finding, they just feed to record the details. I felt like I'd drank loads of water for our scan last time at 12w, but I got sent away to drink another bottle and not wee and wait an hour!
And for the 20w they said I drank too much and sent me to go pee. Can't win! Smile
In January when I had my daughter I registered for cord donation but she was born in the evening so they had gone home. The service is now 24hours at my hospital which I thought was positive.

Rabbitykins55 · 27/10/2016 22:13

Streaky they didn't ask me any questions other than was it my first scan. They didn't really say much either. They just confirmed their was one baby. It was my husband that had to ask if it was ok and asked if the fluttering was the heart beating. I'm not sure what I expected but I thought they'd say more.

PeachIcedT · 27/10/2016 22:29

Congratulations grow and I'm so pleased you had reassuring news lucie. So many scans coming up within the next week, I love the pictures!

My hospital says a full bladder is not needed for the 12 week scan, does this advice vary at all? My midwife confused me by saying I needed it to be full but the hospital website clearly disagrees.

Thanks everyone what a relief it was to see that little one!
*
Peach,* all of the external scans I have had have always said full bladder. Empty for internal scans only.

Brightsmoke · 28/10/2016 06:54

My letter said no need for a full bladder too. Well, I guess I'll know for sure in 90 minutes, eeeek!!

My skin is also bad ATM, it's settling down again now.

I had a dream last night that we had a little girl, which would be lovely, but I would be equally as pleased with a boy :)

What time is your scan ghost?

Is anyone local to Newbury that's using Basingstoke hospital on the off chance?

Streaky17 · 28/10/2016 07:37

Thanks for all the good info. I like sharing tmi with him - hands go over ears.

My letter says full bladder for scans before 15 weeks. Strange that its not consistent.

Streaky17 · 28/10/2016 07:38

Good luck for scans today!

EsmesBees · 28/10/2016 07:46

Hope all the scans today go well. Agree there never seems to be any consistency about scans and bladders. I remember once last time being told it was too full.

Went for a quick lie down after doing bedtime yesterday, closed my eyes for two minutes and the next thing i know it was midnight. Woke up starving. Dh said he didn't have the heart to wake me. I had some dinner and then slept the rest of the night so obviously needed the sleep.

Ghostonthedancefloor · 28/10/2016 07:57

It's at 9.20 brightsmoke I've woken up on my own and have to go to the scan on my own as DH couldn't get the time off Sad

Also seeing the consultant and going for my blood tests. I'm annoyed as my worry is clouding my excitement and this is most definately the last time I'll ever do this!

Good luck for your scan also!!! They must be around the same time Smile

Ghostonthedancefloor · 28/10/2016 08:01

Agree with nervousnelly go with a full bladder they can always ask you to empty it. My letters have always said any scans before 20 weeks need full. I think the theory is the bladder pushes your uterus up and out so it's closer to the handheld sonographer thingy.

PeachIcedT · 28/10/2016 08:15

Well the advice is certainly very confusing on the bladder, though nowadays I frequently have a full bladder without trying so I might be somewhere in between on the day of the scan.

Good luck brightsmoke and ghost and anyone else with a scan today I may have missed.

RasperryInAMelon · 28/10/2016 08:20

It's all very confusing... mine have said no need too.

I have a wedding to go to today and have nothing to wear that doesn't make me look like a jacket potato... even resorted to buying two maternity dresses but can't help look very 'mumsy' in them...

Badgerbird · 28/10/2016 08:24

My 12 week scan letter (I'll be 13+4?!) says full bladder. Says to drink 1.5pints of water.

Good luck with all the scans today!! Sorry to hear you gotta go on your own ghost. It'll still be super exciting when you see that little wriggler :)

Brightsmoke · 28/10/2016 08:26

Mines 9.20 too ghost, so excited to see where they date baby at!

Having read the second page this morning, mine says a moderately full bladder, but the first page said no need for a full bladder, very conflicting!

lucieloos · 28/10/2016 08:32

Good luck with the scans ladies x

WishIWasSleeping · 28/10/2016 08:39

It's like what ghost said, as the baby is so small before 20weeks and they need to do measurements, a full bladder is needed to bring the uterus closer to the front of your body. (So I was previously told!)
And, I thought my bladder was full last year, it was really difficult to drink more! They reckon it takes half an hour + for the water to get from bottle to bladder.
And then they made me wiggle on the exam table as baby wasn't in the right position! GrinHalo

Ghostonthedancefloor · 28/10/2016 08:59

Thanks everybody! Just in the hospital car park chugging my water! Good luck brightsmoke

And raspberry a jacket potato Grin made me LOL!

JulyLady7 · 28/10/2016 09:03

When I went for my 8 week scan, I drank maybe 3/4 of a litre on the way in. I had a transabdominal ultrasound and everything was clear. They did say that if they couldn't see they'd do a transvaginal one instead. But that was private.
Years ago, I had an ultrasound when I wasn't pregnant because of some pain and I drank the 2 pints they suggested and nearly canceled the appointment as I couldn't wait! I can imagine that's gonna be even worse now with the number of times I have to go for a pee. My letter says that we may not be seen straight away due to some emergency appointments taking priority. I think I'm going to do the same as I did a few weeks ago.
