Good Morning all, hope you all had a good weekend will catch up later.
Hurrah it was light when I left the house this morning for the first time in ages so feel much happier about being up and at work.
Cheers CM

Necessity is the mother of invention.

Or in other words SOH has no money so has to make things for her poor, soon-to-be-ridiculed baby.

I make a lot of my own clothes and my family take great delight in referring to most of my outfits as special.

You should give it a whirl, it's actually very therapeutic. My brother's currently knitting some matinee jackets for the baby (he's a 6ft power lifter!) My Mum raised us to be able to make stuff.

I would go into my loft and look for baby stuff but I know full well that all I'll find up there is a broken Christmas tree, some old uni work and a lot of spiders.

ShowOfHands · 09/02/2007 13:35

I think I might have a break in Scotland before the baby arrives. DH still has 16 days of holiday left and I have 4 weeks to take before May 7th when I go on mat leave.

Cinnamon, I'll see you there...

susanjayneh · 09/02/2007 13:37

Back on the boobs thing - I recently found some bras on the NCT website which are like stretchy tops and grow with you....they are really comfy and good enough for larger ladies....

Bensonbluebird · 09/02/2007 13:38

SOH, did you send me your address? I still have that Debbie Bliss book if you would like it.

twelveyeargap · 09/02/2007 13:40

Cinnamon - train is so relaxing, that's a really good idea.

Re: bras. I have, in the last 6 months, been a 36D, 38D, 38E and a 40DD. I have a selection of bras. I could open a shop, frankly.

If you hate getting measured then do it yourself. Measure under the bust then add 4 inches to an even number or 5 inches to an odd number. The total number is the bra size.
Then measure round the fullest part. If there is no difference between the bra size and "fullest" measurment it's an A cup. 1"=B, 2"=C, 3"=D, 4"=DD, 5"=E and so on.
They suggest you wear a non-padded bra to measure as if you're a little "droopy" the fullest part measurment might be slightly different when "supported". HTH. Always try on the bra before you buy anyway.

I think I got measured at about 37 weeks for nursing bras and they added a cup size to allow room for the milk to come in.

ShowOfHands · 09/02/2007 13:44

I did BBB, but may not have worked. Had some probs with work email. Will try again. Remind me what your address is so I can make sure I get it right...

ShowOfHands · 09/02/2007 13:48

TYG I don't own a tape measure but we have one in a drawer at work. Now, what do you think my co-librarians would do if I started whipping my norks out behind the filing cabinet? I can't very well ask for the tape measure and then run to the loo can I? They'll think I've lost the plot (although I did whoop with joy and do a little dance when I found ginger nuts in the staff biscuit tin this morning- this in front of two professors and an admin assistant).

cinnamontam · 09/02/2007 13:53

SOH - that would be fab. We can go tramping through the heather together!!

I was even telling DH we should get hire a Winnebago so I can snooze while he drives and then we can just park it if we cant' be arsed looking for a B&B for the night

twelveyeargap · 09/02/2007 13:53

How d'you manage to make clothes and stuff without a tape measure??? You're obviously cleverer than I thought.

Bensonbluebird · 09/02/2007 13:53

my email is alisondotdykeattalk21dotcom

Will check it doesn't get dumped in spam or something

twelveyeargap · 09/02/2007 13:54

Even cleverer. That sounded like I thought you were a muppet. Oh dear.

Bensonbluebird · 09/02/2007 13:54

Was thinking the same thing TYG!

twelveyeargap · 09/02/2007 13:58

How do Italian women ever have supported breasts? That's what I want to know. Italian bra sizes are 1, 2, 3, 4. size 1 = 32A, 32B size 2 = 32C, 34B size 3 = 34C, 36B size 4 = 34D, 36C,D.

I mean, there's quite a difference between a 34D and a 36D IMO. And what happens if you're a 32D or summat? Very odd.

Bensonbluebird · 09/02/2007 14:00

Whoo HOo, my boobs are quite big by Italian standards

Creena · 09/02/2007 14:05

I'm a bit scared to get my tape measure out. I'm bound to be some comically enormous cup size by now. Definitely specialist!!

Creena · 09/02/2007 14:12

I've just tried to measure myself. Got an E cup measurement, so think I'm doing it wrong! I'll leave it to the professionals, I think.

Just for a laugh, I thought I'd measure around my bump (formerly known as my wasit) while I was faffing about. I got a rather terrifying 43 inches!! Think I shoul refrain from asking DH to fetch some creme eggs on his way home tonight, then.

twelveyeargap · 09/02/2007 14:29

What's your back size though? E doesn't surprise me in the slightest, tbh. Not if you say, used to be a C.

LupinsBigLump · 09/02/2007 14:37

Hi all

Pebble glad you are complaining I cant believe they kept him in grrrrrrrrr, we have also been collecting tesco clucard vouchers have nearly £400 in deals - we used them last year to hire a car in portugal, saved us £270, tell your mum to look at tesco blogspot as well they post lots of extra codes if you shop online - will try and dig out the addy later

LupinsBigLump · 09/02/2007 14:39

Pebble (and anyone else) - tesco codes website, great way to top up your points

tescovouchercodes.blogspot.com/

susanjayneh · 09/02/2007 14:46

This'll give you all a laugh - my back measures 29" my boobs are a HH cup.....go figure..

twelveyeargap · 09/02/2007 14:49

Did you add the 5 inches before you compared to the "fullest part" measurement???

If not, then

susanjayneh · 09/02/2007 14:51

I know I'm a funny shape. When not pg I have 34 inch hips, 24 inch waist, a 29 inch back but 40 inch chest measurement......my boobs are always the last thing to shrink......

anneme · 09/02/2007 14:53

Italian women also have no bums - one of my most humiliating experiences was trying to buy trousers in Italy - and I am a size 10/12...
I am going to have to start writing shopping lists. I think we have some stuff in the attic but not sure where....hooray, shopping opportunity.
Deep breath - off to family do...gulp! FIL has already been on the phone to see if DS is happy - last time DS refused to say goodbye to him. He is 3 years old!! Mind you, I think so is FIL - he certainly needs as much attention.
I am not starting off in a positive frame of mind ....calm...calm
See you all on Monday

Creena · 09/02/2007 14:54

TYG - I'm thoroughly ashamed of my back size. It's gone up to 40. So I seem to be a matronly 40 G or E, depending on who's doing the measuring.

Have been trying to do some internet browsing for baby equipment etc but keep being distracted by the heavy snow outside and maternity clothing sites [shame-faced smiley]

ShowOfHands · 09/02/2007 15:05

BBB- I've emailed you again!

TYG- I'm like a Grandma, don't measure when I'm sewing/knitting- I just guess. You'd think everything ends up completely misshapen but I do have a ruler to check I'm not too far off if I'm worried. My Goddaughter (aged 6) says I do "psychic knitting" because I can get the size right without checking. More luck than judgment I feel.

And I know you think I'm stoopid really.
