Good Morning all, hope you all had a good weekend will catch up later.
Hurrah it was light when I left the house this morning for the first time in ages so feel much happier about being up and at work.
Cheers CM

Have now drunk a can of Irn Bru and eaten two biscuits in the hope that Pod will be sugar rushed into action. I know I'm panicking for nothing, but he's been so active every other day since I started feeling him.

CONFESSION: Even though we have ABSOLUTELY NO MONEY, I happened to go in the Ollie & Nic shop on Saturday while waiting to meet a friend who was late and there was 70% off

Was sooo tempted by this:

in blue

and

this

in the end my friend felt sorry for me, and bought the changing bag for Pod for £21!! wicked. So, naturally I then bought the leather bag The credit card is straining under the pressure.

Jelly - get your DH to gently poke your belly when he puts his hand on you. Works for me. I think someone said last week that her midwife said that babies probably like the interaction. We often get a reaction when DH talks or sings to my bump.

twelveyeargap · 05/02/2007 15:47

Juicy - if it makes you feel any better, DH has told me not to spend any money under any circumstances as we've just forked out for stamp duty/ moving costs/ appliances and so on.

I've just ordered over £200 worth of maternity wear from Next and told myself that "most of it won't fit, so I'll be returning lots of it."

Was so fed up this morning as with having no washing machine yet and being away all weekend, I had to look in the laundry basket for something to iron and re-wear that I felt "justified". The fact that the Next stuff is booked to arrive on Saturday, which is when the new washing machine arrives, somehow became irrelevant. And I still have nothing to wear tomorrow unless I go to the laundrette tonight. Maybe I could nip to Dorothy Perkins after work for an emergency pair of trousers. I do actually have some clean tops to wear... Hmmm...

Bad, BAD TYG.

notsolilKel · 05/02/2007 15:48

what's this Ollie & Nic? Uh oh, another fabulous place to spend loads of money on 'essentials'..... ....

JellyBellyBump · 05/02/2007 15:49

TYG, I don't think that DH singing to my bump would be an option. It'll be scared stiff and probably refuse to come out in May.

Juice, that changing bag is gorgeous

notsolilKel · 05/02/2007 15:50

TYG I think you are justified in getting at least one new outfit for each night your DH was out "playing" without you!! Including accessories, of course...

...what was it at Next you bought? (nosey me, sorry, just curious what others find is working for them...)

I've been getting most of my stuff from Next - in fact about to trot down to the Post Office and return a top I'm not mad on. Really good plain black trousers for work and some really cute tops. Only prob is I have to keep pinning the tops together as my boobs are doing their best to jump out at everyone!

Juicylucytoo · 05/02/2007 16:01

Thanks Jelly - Was a bit worried it would be good girly for DH to lug around, but if it is we'll just buy another one - as this one was a pressy

TYG - A girl's gotta look her best and as you say, you'll be sending most of them back. and don't talk to me about stamp duty AAARRRGGGHHH!! How much?!?! Over a years hard saving whoosh straight into Gordon Browns pocket. Not looking forward to writing that cheque.

twelveyeargap · 05/02/2007 16:30

Umm, ordered dark indigo jeans (my early pregnancy ones are just TOO uncomfortable now.) Black wide leg trousers, black jersey trousers as mentioned earlier in the thread, a tankini for my holiday in Spain, a summery caftan thingy (also for holiday), one black and one white linen blend skirt (will do for holiday and also this summer when I'm still fat after the birth), beige jeans, a green printed sleeveless top and a brown empire line top. Hoping at least some of it fits. Not sure what I'll do on holiday otherwise. It might not be very hot, but last week it was about 22 degrees where I'm headed off to. Don't think my biker boots and thick tights will be suitable...

Stamp duty is a bugger, but if I'd bought my house in Ireland; we would have had to pay a whopping 9% stamp tax. Can you imagine? Frankly, we couldn't have afforded it. No way. What a joke, paying out that much to the government for doing nothing. It's a tax on the nomadic. Tsk.

twelveyeargap · 05/02/2007 16:31

Oh, was going to start another thread, but I suspect those of you who order from Next will know. I thought I'd be asked to pay at the end with a credit card, but seemed to end up "creating an account" and wasn't asked for payment details. Is that normal? Will they just bill me for the stuff now?

notsolilKel · 05/02/2007 16:38

re Next, happened to me too. Yes you'll get a bill. Just make sure you pay it ASAP as their interest rates are astronomical if I remember correctly....26%?!?!?!

twelveyeargap · 05/02/2007 16:41

Crikey! Will set up a direct debit as soon as I get the account number then. I never remember to pay stuff. Thanks for the tip.

Also noticed in the help section, AFTER I'd ordered, that you can arrange to pick things up at a store. Damn. Would have done that if I'd realised, though didn't seem to get the "option". Perhaps you only get that when your account is operational? No matter I suppose. I know I'll be in on Saturday to receive it.

anneme · 05/02/2007 17:41

LWAtkins - I agree re going on a tour of the hospital - it is nice to know where you are going. Certainly our hospital wasn't as bad as all the mags etc had led me to believe - I happily showered etc there (and they were private!). Do take extra pillows - in our hosp we only got one which is crap if you want to sit up/feed etc. Also, I thought I would want to get out asap but, in fact, it was good to stay in and find my feet with DS - you will be at home alone with LO for a long time so a bit more time in hosp is no bad thing IMHO.
my tip for buying something - kamillosan cream for your boobs if breastfeeding - I had a couple of days of agony and didn't realise I could use cream (bit dim me) and when I put it on it was magic - and if you don't have sore boobs you can use it on LO's bum as nappy cream if they get nappy rash!

anneme · 05/02/2007 18:35

I mean that the showers were private - not the hospital...

Lwatkins · 05/02/2007 18:40

I would like to do a hospital tour but doubt it'd be possible. I'm gonna be leaving Bristol 2 weeks before my due date to go back up to scotland and my care will obviously have to be changed as well as the hospital. Mind i could do a hospital tour down here just to 'see' what it's all like

aprilmeadow · 05/02/2007 19:17

LW - i would contact your hosp in Scotland and pre arrange a tour for as soon as you move up there. What is the name of your 'new' hosp? Perhaps you could have a look at their website, or even send your mum to have a look round on your behalf. We did a tour of our hosp when pg with ds and there is just so much to take in that you might not even remember to look at or ask the questions you want to.

Clean towels, flip flops and anti bac hand stuff (even though there should be a massive bottle at end of your bed!) are the esentials. Hopefully you will only be in 2nights, and it does go very quickly :-)

Got a scan on Thursday to check all is ok with bubs re this Parvo Virus thing. Spoke to consultant today who said that there wasnt anything to worry about and in a very small number of babies it can cause anemia which they treat by giving a blood transfusion in the womb. Feel releived to know and cant wait for scan

LupinsBigLump · 05/02/2007 20:11

Notsolilkel - I love that buggy but would cause separation if I git another one - how much are you looking for if I hear of anyone interested?

TYG know where you are coming from re lack of clothes - have been quite strict with my maternity wardrobe altho did do anothet £40 in Next last week, but do get fed up seeing all my normal clothes being unused in the wardobe when I am hunting for something to find

AM good luck for scan on thurs

Lo was quiet yesterday but back to being a disco dancer today -- yipeeee tomorrow we are officially viable - another milestone complete

LupinsBigLump · 05/02/2007 20:45

Also have defiantly (well 90%) decided to talk to consultant on thurs about elective section at 38 weeks, its driving me mad the more I look at vbac the more I get apprehensive about it

AbbyLou · 05/02/2007 20:46

Hi everyone
Hope you're all well. Everything's fine here. I've not taken any more of those nasty drugs and lo and behold I've had no more problems - apart from the sciatica of course.... I spoke to a gp at my surgery and he basically in a roundabout way said I should never have been prescribed 2 tablets. He scared me when he told me that what I took was the equivalent of taking 12 paracetomol all in one go!! He says to stick with the paracetomol and if the pain is bad try half a codeine tablet - bit different from 2!

Only one more week at work to go until I;ve got a week off for half term. After that it's 6 weeks till I finish - not that I'm counting of course! They're short-listing for my job tomorrow so it feels a bit more real. My 'job' for next week is to start the dreaded potty training with ds. I am really dreading it to be honest so any tips would be more than welcome!

notsolilKel · 05/02/2007 21:26

Hiya Lupins - thx re the buggy. I'd like £200 for the whole system. I actually hate to let it go, it's a great buggy, but we are short on space and funds and only need a double now...also big hugs re the consultant meeting you've got coming up re the elective section. I am going for planned section this time round as my first birth was horrific (natural but horrible). Will be reporting to hospital at 39 weeks, unless DD decides to come sooner...x

jessinwa · 05/02/2007 21:45

abbylou, i have no experience whatsoever with potty training but when i finally get the nerve to start with munch i will definitely be consulting parenthacks . it is a great resource.
notsolilkel and lupins, i am with you on the section. my decision came down to not getting anywhere after a long labor last time. they have already scheduled me for april 19th if we stay in the us.

ok, ladies. big news in the jessinwa household. our aussie visas have been approved! this would have been fantastic news about two weeks ago but now it is just too much for my little brain to handle. my doctor has limited the time i have to travel to australia to sometime before february 26th. that means that if we want to move to australia before little one is born i have to pack up and get on a plane with munch in three weeks. i don't know if i can do it. just last night dh and i resigned to the fact that we were not going to be able to move until june at the earliest. it was such a relief to have made a decision and then now we check our email this morning and get this news that the visas have gone through. what a mess. a good mess, but still a mess.

jessinwa · 05/02/2007 21:47

the parenthacks link isn't working right now but i am sure it is a good link. try it later.

LupinsBigLump · 05/02/2007 22:12

LIL thanks I will keep my ears open if anyone is interested - I would honestly have it myself but MUST BE GOOD lol

Jess - how exciting you having a date - thats not far away at all, what a bugger about your move - still at least it is happening - just not yet

Am feeling much more relaxed at having made a birth choice - having a date will also mean I can get my mum up to helo and not jus on standby 400 miles away - that is providing this ones stays put, dd was 5 weeks early so could also be having April baby arggghhhh not ready lol

twelveyeargap · 05/02/2007 22:41

Hi Jess. That happened to my friend here. The Aussie visas came through and it was all systems go. It would be stressful getting all packed up in three weeks, but I think it can be done. I suppose you just need to decide if it's better to do it now and have the baby in Aus, or do it with a young child.

Did you say your mum was in Perth? Might be nice for you to already be there to have the baby - though depends on health insurance and that kind of thing as well I suppose.

So much to think about!
