Twocats, get your ocado smart pass now, my DD is a nightmare in grocery stores, I rely very heavily on ocado, only only do the quickest of quick top up shops.

kikisdelivery · 15/09/2016 09:03

Morning all! Congrats on the scans everyone!! You must be so excited!

Remembering what I can from the thread: diva I sometimes get sharp twinges if I sneeze (bloody hayfever), but not often, I guess it's to do with how everything's sitting in there. But yep, I've had it too!

Sparkles I don't think it's unreasonable for you to want to dress your own child! Maybe tell your MIL not to go too mad shopping in NYC because she should save money for touristy stuff Grin? I'm like you, both my parents are no longer around, but so far my MIL / in-laws haven't gone too mad with any bits. They may be waiting for the 20 week scan to find out what it is we're having.... they've got a whole other week to go if so!

Prams - I have a second hand original Oyster sold through a work colleague. Babystyle, the manufacturer, sell colour packs for you to personalise it, so I've bought a red carry cot cover and red buggy seat. I didn't fancy anything obviously blue or pink but did want a splash of colour, so I'm pleased I could get the colour packs in matching shades for all of the parts. We're in Cambridge, so terrain-wise we're going to be very urban and I hear the Oyster is all good for that - it struggles on uneven ground but if we did go for a walk in, say, woodland or something, I'd use a sling anyway. Or at least I'm saying I would!!

Maternity - my plan is currently like others, I want to work up to the start of week 38 if I can, as I get a long block of time off over christmas through to 3rd Jan and will use a bit of leave to shorten the weeks in January down to maybe 4 or 3 days depending on how I feel. I'd then plan to take a full week of leave to cover week 38 and not have maternity leave kick off properly until week 39. That's the current plan! I told my HR I thought that was really close to my due date and they said loads of people have worked all the way up to theirs! I don't think that's for me!!

twocatsandatoddler · 15/09/2016 09:10

wispa I have a midweek smart pass already but may upgrade it! I tend to do a large online shop and then top up during the week as we walk past Waitrose on the way home from nursery anyway. I always pop DS in a trolley if I don't have the buggy with me, but that won't work with two!

divadee · 15/09/2016 09:12

Thanks kikis. She is laying very low. Scan the other day confirmed that she was head down bouncing on my cervix. I have emailed work to say I have to work from home today as everytime I move its bloody hurting.

kikisdelivery · 15/09/2016 09:23

diva I wonder if that's happening to me, too, then, in the way my bubs may be laying? I've not had my next scan yet so don't know for sure, but my lower abdomen was particularly achy and sore from cycling a few days ago - everything just felt heavy down there - so I wonder if that's where it likes to nestle? Hmmm!

divadee · 15/09/2016 09:26

kikis have you got a very low bump? People keep commenting on how low my bump is and I know she is constantly laying low as all the movement is really really low. I'm unsure whether to call the midwife today as it all just feels really weird just above my pubic bone. I'm not getting tightenings but when she moves it feels like she is trying to get out!!

LondonGirl83 · 15/09/2016 09:38

Friendly that's interesting - my DH is 6 foot 3 and I am 5 foot 9 so that would be a consideration. How high is the handle bar on the uppababy

twocatsandatoddler · 15/09/2016 09:45

London DH's uncle is 6ft 5 and says our Uppababy is the first pram he's pushed that he hasn't had to stoop down for, as the handle has three height settings. DH has it on a setting higher than I do. Have you looked at the Cruz? I love the Vista but wouldn't recommend it in London as it's too big to be practical on public transport (current model is even wider than my one), but I've heard great things about the Cruz. I think your best bet is to go to John Lewis or similar and push some around to get a feel for whether handle height would be an issue on the Bee.

FriendlyGhost · 15/09/2016 09:50

London the bar comes up to mid/high stomach height for my and I'm 5ft 8. DH is 6ft 5 and it's comfortable for him. It also doesn't have a bar across the bottom between the wheels which a lot of buggies do. Means we can stride without kicking into it. It's definitely worth both of you popping into John Lewis to try several out. I know uppababy do a more lightweight city version too (the cruz) so may be better for central London. I've used mine in London a lot though and it's been fine.

kikisdelivery · 15/09/2016 10:08

diva I'm not sure... I think so, it's still a relatively small bump at the moment, though has definitely popped a bit more this week (19 weeks for me!). I was so sore yesterday after waking up with what felt like cramps that I ended up phoning the midwife in a bit of a panic, but she said that everything's still at the stage of moving upwards. So maybe it's all still quite low for me at this stage. I know what you mean about it feeling like it wants to burst out though - that's how I felt overnight the night before, which is why I freaked! I've also felt what I think might be flutters and movement but always lower down, not at all near my belly button or anything.

divadee · 15/09/2016 10:13

Maybe it is normal for us kikis then?! Mine are all really low. Nowhere near my belly button!!! All where my pubic line would be (if I wasn't still trying to remove the hair albeit very badly!)

She is going crazy in there this morning. Moving every 1-2 mins.

kikisdelivery · 15/09/2016 10:18

Yes! Same exact spot I think I've felt stuff diva ! I had a virgin mary cocktail yesterday before me and the OH went for some food, and the bartender made it insanely spicy (I really like spicy bloody mary's normally, but this was the vindaloo of the virgin variety!). About halfway through the drink I got what i assume was an offended boot in my lower middle Grin. I'm trying not to obsess too much over movement cos this is my first and I'm still not 100% sure if some of it might just be bog-standard belly rumbles - but sometimes they're easier to identify as no kind of belly rumble i've ever felt before!!

LondonGirl83 · 15/09/2016 10:54

Friendly I think I am going to go to John Lewis on Sunday or next weekend and test a few out. When are the prices going up again?

I've narrowed it down to 3 pushchairs: Bugaboo Bee 3, i Candy raspberry and the uppababy cruz having spent hours on Which and listening to all of your input.

The handle height for the uppababy cruz is only 3cm higher than the Bugaboo and the iCandy so unless that 1 inch makes a big difference to my DH (who is a couple inches shorter than yours) I think we’ll probably go for the Bugaboo3.

I like that the Bugaboo is useable from birth without a carrycot but that you can get a carrycot if you decide to use for naps when visiting family etc rather than day to day use. The icandy is also suitable from birth but doesn’t have a carrycot option.

I do like that the uppababy can be converted into double buggy though.

I also like how compact both the iCandy and Bugaboo are as they’ll easily fit in our hallway cupboard meaning we won’t have to leave it out all the time. The uppababy is just slightly too big and our hallway isn’t really generous enough to have a buggy left out all the time.

The iCandy has larger under seat storage than the Bugaboo which seems to be the main reason it rather than the Bee 3 got the Which Best Buy, but DH and I agreed that for our lifestyles this really wasn’t a problem and the difference isn’t that significant.

In the end what is tipping it in favor of the Bee for me is that its front swivel wheels can be locked for smoother handling on uneven surfaces. The iCandy can’t which means it will be much more of a pita on the occasions we do go ‘off road’.

Thanks everyone for all the input!

kikisdelivery · 15/09/2016 14:08

Oooh, thanks for the bargain link shell !

Crazycatlady123 · 15/09/2016 14:09

Hey ladies, Is anyone else rapidly losing motivation at work?

At 18 weeks and feeling better from the beginning of 2nd trimester I thought I'd get my mojo back, but I still can't find it Hmm I work in an office in a job I really don't like, but don't mind doing, it pays the bills after all and I'm grateful for it.

I just can't shift the 'cant be arsed' attitude, not helped by my manager that doesn't seem to want to give me much work, despite me asking multiple times! so I've stopped asking as it gets me nowhere.

I'm bored and frustrated, and feel guilty for feeling this way. Does anyone else feel like this?

Readyfortwo · 15/09/2016 14:09

London I'm 5'8 & bought the Vista because of the height of both the handle & the baby. I found most prams way too low when I was testing them. I have the handle on the lowest setting and that's perfect, my dad is 6ft & loves the fact he can have the handle at his height. I would agree it's a bit too big & heavy for public transport though. Def look at the Cruz, it's much neater- never checked the height vs vista though.

CinderellaFant · 15/09/2016 14:18

So went to get my whooping cough injection , only to be told it was actually last Tuesday. Baby brain!! Blush

kikisdelivery · 15/09/2016 14:22

Crazy I feel ya! I really love what I do, but since getting the BFP I've been way less motivated. Initially it was just tiredness and feeling sick at my desk that meant I clock-watched. But now, even at 19 weeks, I still count down the hours in my day!

I'm really not sure where it's come from, for me. I have my energy back, but I guess maybe because I know there's a life changing thing looming in only a few months, sometimes work just seems like a side-distraction! This week has been really busy for me though, which I'm grateful for, as sometimes my workload goes up and sometimes down - and the downs are always incredibly frustrating.

Sparrowlegs248 · 15/09/2016 14:42

Evergreen - i was signed off when 32 weeks. Work wrote to me to say that if I was still off sick by a certain date (the Monday I was 36 weeks I think) then maternity leave would start. Dr was keen to sign me off for longer, and insisted it was not pregnancy related, but I didn't want to push it so went back to work. Basically, if you are off sick for pregnancy related illness after 36 weeks your maternity leave kicks in. At least where I work.

Congrats ceeceeeglad your scan went well!

Sparkles, I think let Mil buy what she wants, take some pics for her in the outfits, and never use them again if you don't like them. I found with my mum and ds, it was best to pick my battles. There WILL be things you want or need to stand your ground about. It's hard though.

Just realised I am still reading page 24 so will catch up and reply again!

Crazycatlady123 · 15/09/2016 14:48

Thanks Kiki I guess having a baby has shifted my priorities completely, I just wish I was busy, and not being treated like a delicate flower.

On the other hand, I feel for those that have the total opposite to me being overworked.

I'm sure I'll look back and wish I'd been more grateful for this time, I just wish I could be more productive with it.

At least I've got next week off so I can paint the nursery with hubby and go back with a bit more motivation (I hope) Smile

Sparrowlegs248 · 15/09/2016 14:48

Page 26 not 24.....
Dividee yes to the stabby pain, I remember it from last time too. It's notarial. Bending over and pressing a pillow to my tummy helped.

Boom hope your scan went well! Or goes well depending on the time.

I work 3 days a week since coming back from maternity leave, (April...) So I think I will go back after Christmas for a couple of weeks. Will have to see how I feel.

Ds will be 18 months so Def think I need a double. Have just seen a hauck freebies, which is quite cheap and can be used as a single afterwards. Want to see one in public really. In person rather.

Sparrowlegs248 · 15/09/2016 14:54

I had a consultant appointment today. Been referred on to cardiologist rather unnecessarily I think.

Had a small trace of protein in urine. Anyone got experience of this?

wispaxmas · 15/09/2016 15:44

A cardiologist? Do you have a preexisting condition?

LondonGirl83 · 15/09/2016 16:01

A cardiologist referral does sound strange. Did they give you more information than that?

I'm less efficient at work (obviously given my Mumsnet use) but now that the summer lull is over I'm quite busy again which feels nice. When things are slow I go a bit crazy....

I often have strong foof pains related to stretching-- very disconcerting

Ready thanks for the insight. I'm quite tall like you so I think I'll definitely have to see how they feel in hand and decide if the extra size of the uppababy and that fact it needs a carrycot are worth it. I think JL should have all 3 I want to test drive
