Starting a fresh new thread for us!

I think Fedup asked about Elderberries and if anyone had heard from her... I haven't seen her name pop up in a while, but I'm not on the FB group either. I've been wondering the same about almondbutter, haven't seen her on here for a while now and know she was really suffering with sickness.

Hello everyone,

Hope you don't mind me joining the gang. I have 2 other little people already, aged 4.5 and 2.5 and expecting another via CS last week of Oct/first week of November.

I'm an older mum (43), and boy, am I feeling it! I can't bend down anymore, my feet are really weird and go through this boiling phase at night, constantly itching all over the place and my bowels ahem* are all over the shop!

Still teaching for the moment and trying to ridiculously go for another 4 weeks as I have a key responsibility and things not straightforward at them moment.

It's lovely hearing all your stories as I don't have any friends who are pregnant at the moment and it's just lovely hearing where other mums are and what they are doing.

FuzzyOwl · 10/09/2016 20:08

Hello, welcome and congratulations Kitten.

AyeAmarok · 10/09/2016 20:58

Welcome Kitten

Inside out... Yep, I think I can join that club Confused Hoping it's just the pressure or something!

mrsdane · 11/09/2016 08:26

Welcome Kitten. Joining fouff club too.

Anyone feeling a bit off post whooping cough jab? Had mine on Friday and I'm feeling a bit coldy. Sleep is evading me at the moment too...

bobcat85 · 11/09/2016 09:45

salemtheteenagecat I've got a uti and have been given antibiotics (cefalexin). I'm trying to clear it out by drinking a lot of water and it's a bit better now. I've got to ring the doctors on Tuesday to check the sample results. Hope you feel better soon.

I've got a health visitor coming to the house tomorrow, does anyone know what the appointment will involve?

Fedupithink · 11/09/2016 21:22

Hi Mrs I had mine Friday too but feel ok apart from a dead arm- still! I've not got much of an appetite but I think that's the heat more than anything.

Bob I've not been contacted by a health visitor so no idea I'm afraid. I'm sure it'll just be routine though to check you are ok before they meet you post-birth?

helenatroy · 11/09/2016 21:27

Made a big mistake today. Looked at mine with a mirror it looked like one of those origami fortune teller things that had been savaged by a rabid dog..

Bob- I got a letter last week asking me to make an appointment for health visitor, apparently its to be nosey of your home so a friend told me, I remember when I had my booking in appointment with the mw, she came to mine and her eyes were everywhere, was ever so uncomfortable! In the letter it says they bring the baby's red book with them so I'm guessing that's to make you feel like you've got to make the appointment Confused she'll have a shock when she comes here, we're still in renovating mode so house looks like a building site Sad

bobcat85 · 12/09/2016 11:35

The health visitor appointment was fine, not intrusive at all. It was actually very helpful, she gave me lots of information of what to expect after the birth in terms of support and tests for baby. Also had a discussion about where I want to give birth as I have the choice of two hospitals.
I think they set the health visitor appointments up for everyone here as they prefer to meet before the birth rather than meeting for the first time after.

Bollyroo · 12/09/2016 14:19

So is anyone else getting fits of giggles all the time at inappropriate things? It's getting ridiculous now! Today someone set me off at work when then mentioned prick tests (for allergies). Ordinarily I swear I don't act like a 12 year old but I seriously had tears rolling down my face for 5 minutes. Beyond embarrassing.

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 12/09/2016 16:41

Bollyroo yes! I also just giggled at "prick test" Grin Although I'm not sure I can blame this on pregnancy, I've always had a very immature sense of humour. I find it so hard to keep my stern face on when a kid at school shouts "Miss, he's just drawn a willy on my book!"

Gembear25 · 12/09/2016 20:12

Hi all
I had my scan and consultant appointment today. He is bigger than average but within normal limits apparently?! However because of scar tissue from the last episiotomy he basically said I can have a c section if I want one. They can't guarantee there won't be any further damage if I go for vaginal delivery. He said it's less likely second time round but obviously still a risk. I'm seeing him again in 4 weeks and can let him know then which way I want to go. Am going to do some research but am leaning towards an elective section at the moment I think...
On the plus side I think the iron tablets may have kicked in as I don't feel quite as exhausted as I have done the last few weeks!

DuckWaddle · 12/09/2016 20:25

Hi gembear, he sounds really supportive so that's good news. Mine was very anti c section even though the scar tissue is bad. I think that's swayed me towards not doing a c section but I'm unsure

Gembear25 · 12/09/2016 21:42

It's a tough call isn't it? I really don't know what to do for the best. Wish I had a crystal ball and could see how I'll be afterwards!

31 weeks today so thought I might as well start thinking about my hospital bag.

How many vests and sleepsuits are you all packing and in what size? Also what size nappies? I was considering taking some size ones and twos just in case.

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 13/09/2016 13:41

I started mine this weekend too! I'm just going to bring a pack of newborn sized vests and a pack of sleep suits. You never know how long you'll be in for or how dirty they'll get! Also going to bring both size 0 and 1 nappies as DD was tiny and needed tiny baby clothes/nappies, but I'm sure newborn size will be fine for now. If he turns out to be as small as she was DP will have to nip out to the shop and grab smaller things!

helenatroy · 13/09/2016 13:50

Gember. Have a look at gentle Cesarian. Closest thing to natural and they are all about delayed cord clamping and skin to skin after.

Bollyroo · 13/09/2016 13:55

I'm saving packing the hospital bag for a couple of weeks but have written a list just in case for DH. It's a pretty limited list so far: "nappies, vest, wrap, blanket". Hmmm. May have to work on that.

A girl in my shared midwife group had to spend overnight in hospital after she fainted and lost vision over the weekend. Apparently super low iron so she had to have an iron transfusion. Quite a shock and she's on the mend now but a good reminder to keep taking the tablets.

bobcat85 · 13/09/2016 14:36

I probably won't buy stuff until the next couple of weeks but just making a list.
So far I've got:

  • nursing pads
  • water wipes
  • cotton wool
  • nappies
  • muslin squares
  • nappy sacks
  • maternity briefs
  • vests/ sleepsuits
  • towel
  • slippers
  • nighties x2
  • toiletries
  • nursing bra x 2

I'm sure I've missed stuff but I'll keep adding as I go.

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 13/09/2016 17:04

I think I've overpacked as I don't know anyone that was able to leave the same day and I was in for two days with DD at the same hospital. That was 7 years ago but I just get the feeling they like to keep people in. I've packed a separate bag for baby and a bag for me.

My bag has:
2x nighties,
clothes to go home in,
a spare change in case things get messy,
loads of old knickers,
maternity bra and a nursing bra,
Slippers and dressing gown,
Breast pads and maternity pads,
Toiletries

I can't think of anything worse than being stuck in there and feeling uncomfortable or messy. I'm even going to pack my makeup bag at a later date so I can make myself feel more human Grin (if I can be bothered when it gets to it!)

For the baby I have loads of vests and baby grows, nappies, wipes and nappy cream, hats and scratch mittens and 3x blankets. I can't think of anything else at the moment but will probably keep on adding. I'm a terrible overpacker!

tiredmumrighthere · 13/09/2016 17:53

Omg this babies movements are killing me Sad I literally hold my breath the pain is that bad! Only hurts if I'm sitting down and she stretches I get knees and feet poking out of me and I have to jump up, the pain leaves me feeling sick I can't cope

needahugbug · 13/09/2016 18:22

Awe tiredmum that doesn't sound good :( I only wish I could feel my baby move. I'm 32 weeks and never feel any movement. I've been checked out at the hospital and they say I'm not going to feel anything due to placenta position :( I feel like I'm missing out on so much x

Fedupithink · 13/09/2016 20:02

Sorry Tired and Need both rubbish situations to be in. I'm somewhere in the middle in that I can feel her but only a few times a day but I freak out regularly as I haven't felt her in a while.

I've been thinking about my hospital bag and buying things for it but I'm not sure what to include for the baby. The lists I can find are endless and things I've bought in "newborn" size vary so much from shop to shop I don't know where to start! I'm thinking a pick and mix selection at the moment!

tiredmumrighthere · 13/09/2016 20:35

Need-I'm suppose to have an anterior placenta so god knows how I'm feeling all these movements, when I went for my scan last week I was told that she's head down on her side so her legs and arms are all on my left side which makes it worse because it's the only side I feel movement and it feels bruised it's awful, I know I should feel grateful to feel her move but I really wish I was in your situation because I don't want this for the next 9 weeks Shock

tiredmumrighthere · 13/09/2016 20:55

Fed up I used to freak out too when I couldn't feel her but she's making up for it now she's a fidget bum!

Anyone else got burning feet? Mine aren't hot to touch but they feel like there on fire Sad sorry for all the moaning tonight but I'm so fed up and had enough already Confused
