I think I'm the only person in the world who doesn't use muslins lol. I do use loads and I mean loads of bibs though in all shapes and sizes. I saw the midwife on Wednesday but won't see her again now until around 26-28 weeks, I see her less as its not my first. I have my 20 week scan at 20+3 and have my gtt and bloods at around 28 weeks. Its already booked but I need to check my papers for the actual date.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 22/08/2016 20:36

Is anybody else having the gtt due to previous larger babies? I was told I had to have it because my first was on the 98th centile at birth (9lb2oz at 38+4) I know she was big but I never thought she was THAT big. My second was 9lb3 and a half oz but only on the 95th or 92nd centile. She was born at 40+5 though. Just wondering what other peoples baby weights and what gestation they where born at if you're having to have it. My bmi was fine and no history of diabetes. I checked with midwife and it's definitely coz of dd1s birth weight x

FriendlyGhost · 22/08/2016 20:36

Bibs were the one thing I just didn't use Keeping. Dd has never been a dribbler and when I weaned her I used (and still use) the overall things. I did blw so it was messy!
I used bio oil and mama Mio cream last time. My stomach looks like a road map. I need to get into the habit of using something again this time but I'm not going to bother spending much.

Wonderlust123 · 22/08/2016 20:43

Does anyone know how flexible scan dates are? Will have to double check, but when I was confirming dates for mine, I'm sure the nurse said it most definitely couldn't be the week before (when I've got a day off school), or the week after (when I've got the week off), it had to be during the 20th week (when I'll have to take a morning off school). I remember at the time thinking it seemed a bit ridiculous, and she seemed a bit unreasonable. But maybe there's actually some logic behind that?
Or maybe it's just that I didn't get great vibes from her, and not looking forward to telling my boss 'I'm pregnant, and the first day off of many I'll need is next month!'.
End moan!

LondonGirl83 · 22/08/2016 20:46

Keeping 9lbs 2oz is really big for a baby that is born before 40 weeks. That would be large for a 100% full term baby and I think is more common for women who go overdue. I think its the size combined with the fact you were early at that size that's doing it.

This is my first but my DH was 10lbs 15oz which in 1978 made him the biggest baby ever born in his hospital. He was two weeks over due though as were both of his brothers that were almost as big as him.

LondonGirl83 · 22/08/2016 20:51

Wonder the anomaly scan should take place between week 18 and 22 according to the letter I got from my trust about it.

I'm not sure why your midwife was being a pain about booking it. Do you live in England?

Readyfortwo · 22/08/2016 20:53

London- the builders have just finished in our spare room (will be DS' room soon) & I'll be getting stuck into the painting. There's loads to do & DH can't be trusted!

On Muslins- I second the Aiden & Anais recommendation. I only had 3 but they're so soft & lovely. We also bought a few cheap ones from IKEA- had about 10 in total & that was plenty for us. DS wasn't a sicky baby tho. For other things I highly recommend a book called 'What to buy for your baby'. Loads of great advice & best buys for each price bracket.

Wonderlust don't hold out too much hope for 16wk apt. They didn't do heartbeat at mine for either baby so will depend on your mw/area.

Keeping- I'll be having GTT. DS was 10lb at 40+16 so prob equivalent to your DD. I think he was 98/99th centile.

Keeping I have to have the gtt because dd was 10lbs1oz at 40+5. I have no history of diabetes and am usually a size 10-12 so otherwise I'm low risk. I don't know if I had it or not but both DH and I are tall so I suspect we just make big babies! Apparently an indicator is if the baby drops centiles after birth. Mine certainly didn't!

Wonderlust123 · 22/08/2016 20:59

London, no, in Scotland. I've got a midwife appointment tomorrow (with a different person), so I might see what she thinks.
Readyfortwo, that's a shame. Last time she mentioned this one would just be a general enter test results and give more booklets one, so I won't hold out too much hope for more than that.

Readyfortwo · 22/08/2016 20:59

I had a GTT last time too & got the all clear so pretty sure it wasn't diabetes related.... I think DS was mainly just tall & late!

Shellbell0403 · 22/08/2016 21:05

wonder they told me it had to be 20 weeks also, I will need to count mine but think mine is like 20+4...

I just took the notion for a roll and fritter and had it and half a bag of peanuts... must ahve had a salt craving haha

topmammy · 22/08/2016 21:20

Cinderella it might be worth asking at your local sling library if they do any workshops for pregnant women. My local one does a bump to babywearing wearing workshop for about £20 for women from about 36 weeks pregnant - they teach you about different wraps, slings etc, and also teach you how to wrap your bump which can offer support in later pregnancy and give you a stretchy wrap to keep.

I'm hoping to babywear as much as possible rather than use the pram this time while out and about as it's a bit of a faff to get in and out of the car.

SpinALittleFaster · 22/08/2016 21:38

Scottish I got a 200ml bottle of bio oil from amazon for £10 which was way cheaper than anywhere else.

wunder give the hospital a call and see if they can reschedule. Mine was originally booked well in to 21 weeks last time so definitely doesn't have to be bang on 20.

FlipperSkipper · 22/08/2016 21:41

I got some Burts bees Mama bee bump butter and body oil, even though I don't have a bump yet, just bloat and podge.
My next midwife appt isn't until 17.5 weeks because we're on holiday the week before, it seems like ages away. I have a consultant appt in two weeks though, so hopefully that might be slightly reassuring.

wispaxmas · 22/08/2016 21:46

Wonder, in my trust they call it the 19-22 week scan!!

wispaxmas · 22/08/2016 21:54

London, I painted our nursery last time. Just normal delux paint and I made sure the room was well ventilated.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 23/08/2016 00:11

Thanks for the input guys, I had to have it with my second to for the same reason. I was sure I was a week further gone all the way through the pregnancy but understand they go by what's written on the papers. I'm still classed as low risk and can go for a water birth again so all good there. I won't lie though it was bloody awful last time. Had to fast before going there but then they called me in late and there was hold ups after, by the end I was 3pm when I was finally able to wat and I hadn't eaten since 8pm the day before! Not gonna kill me I know but it made me feel so awful! Hopefully that won't happen this time.

I did baby led weaning to Smile so messy yet very easy and fun! X

divadee · 23/08/2016 07:40

Well after the embarrassment of projectile vomiting all over the bed last night it was an exhausting night with changing the duvet and sheets! Having to hunt out the spare duvet and ending up now with a Xmas duvet cover on the bed as its all I could be bothered to find. So embarrassed that poor other half has to help clean up the vomit from everywhere. Gahhhh

MarjorySunshineDust · 23/08/2016 07:50

My friend had the gtt with her second as her first had weighed 10lbs. I've got to have it this time due to borderline bmi, it niggles me a bit because I'm fit and healthy with no other risk factors, DD was not a large baby either. I did decline the test last time but will discuss it with my midwife on Thursday.

I've recommended it on here before I think, but Sanctuary do a lovely stretch mark oil in their mum to be range. I much preferred it to bio oil.

ScottyAl · 23/08/2016 08:28

Oh no, diva, sounds grim! How are you feeling this morning? I'm not enjoying this second trimester so far. I feel cheated because I feel so ill! All I can keep down is crappy food (cake, biscuits etc) and that's making me feel even worse. My teeth hurt! If I don't feel better by this afternoon I'm going to phone the midwife for a strop Sad

Shellbell0403 · 23/08/2016 08:44

scotty I called my midwife yesterday cos was feeling rubbish and she couldn't really help, she told me to drink milk for my heartburn although I told her I'm still being sick... don't fancy bringing up milk 😷 and up my water intake for my headaches... they can't prescribe anything and told me need to take the good with the bad! Haha...

Still got this horrid taste in my mouth..

Hope your feeling better diva Hope your still in bed relaxing!

MimiDiddy · 23/08/2016 08:48

Scotty sorry to hear you're still feeling pants. Give your MW a call, no harm in getting checked out. It turns out I don't have a cold sore, but had to check as NHS website said to get checked out. Appaz they can be an issue in you get them the first time in pregnancy or they're in the downstairs dept, as they can make baby deaf. What I do have is lovely cracked painful skin in the corner of my mouth that only old people usually get cos I'm very anaemic at the mo. No wonder I'm so bloody knackered 😩. So much for the second trimester glow.

I've also got to have GTT even though it's my first cos my Dad has type 2 diabetes. Am not looking forward to the fasting bit.

kikisdelivery · 23/08/2016 09:09

Ah no, sorry to hear some of you have been having a yuk time of it recently... I am not a sadist (or is it masochist?!), but there's a bit of me that'd like to join you. My sickness has dropped off and I'm in some weird limbo where I have a belly, and aches as things stretch, and sore boobs, but none of the more intense symptoms from a couple of weeks ago.

16 week appt for me today, this afternoon, and I'm terrified of the heartbeat thing.... I've no idea if my MW will even try to listen to it, but I've been terrorising myself with thoughts of whether they'll even find it....

divadee · 23/08/2016 09:43

I hope I get forgiven for lying to the dry cleaners. I couldn't face saying it was me who had thrown up on the duvet so told them my daughter had!! I'm taking it down in an hour and will be a couple of days till it's ready. Oh the shame.

I'm feeling better this morning. Stupid all day nausea and sickness. I'm blaming the mango! But I had the mango to relieve the constipation problem. Gahhh. FML.

My medication from the GP is ready at the chemist this morning so hoping that will finally knock the nausea on the head.

LondonGirl83 · 23/08/2016 11:17

Oh, you have my sympathy. I'm feeling dreadfully ill with nausea too! This heatwave isn't helping.

mimi my dad has type 2 diabetes but the consultant yesterday didn't think I needed the gtt or any special monitoring. Do you have additional risk factors? Is the GTT invasive? Why didn't some of you refuse it?
