london I'm a doer like you. And I am struggling with not being able to do stuff at home and work. People keep telling me not to lift stuff but if I don't it takes hours for anything to get done!!!!

twocatsandatoddler · 22/08/2016 12:42

I did most stuff last time I was pregnant (painting, lifting, some exercise) but just listened to my body and was careful not to overdo things. I think it's fine as long as you apply common sense - we're pregnant, not ill!

I saw an osteopath (one specially trained to treat pregnant women) last time when I started to get niggly pains in my back and hips and she was amazing at helping me avoid any further aches and pains. I was fit and healthy and walking a few miles a day as part of my commute right up to when I stopped work at 37 weeks.

LondonGirl83 · 22/08/2016 13:17

During my absence from the gym since week 8, I've been upping my walking to compensate. I try to do 4 miles most days.

I am going to start pregnancy yoga this week and I'm hoping to go back to spin class though I'm feeling pretty rough again today so we'll see how that goes.

CinderellaFant · 22/08/2016 15:27

Thanks for the sling library info- I looked it up and there's one which meets at IKEA on the last Monday of every month near me. I take it I'll have to wait til baby is here before I go?

Are you all having 16 week appointments? Is that with the midwife just ? I'm not being seen now until my 20 week scan

Dreamingoutloud7 · 22/08/2016 16:12

cinderella I think everyone should have a 16 week appointment with the mw, unless it's dependent on area but I thought it was a standard appointment. Maybe call your mw and check as I have to make my appointment myself through my surgery, they aren't automatically allocated like scans etc

LondonGirl83 · 22/08/2016 16:22

I have a 16 week midwife appointment. The MW scheduled it during my booking in appointment. They tend to always make the next appointment at the end of the first one where I live.

Based on NICE guidelines everyone should have a 16 week antenatal appointment so you should definitely call your midwife to follow up.

DottyA · 22/08/2016 16:25

For all the people talking about muslins - I know lots swear by them and use loads, but a couple of my friends bought loads and never used them...I'm going to try and just get absolute essentials to start with and see from there what we actually want/need. I figure Amazon can send me just about anything within 24 hrs....

Scan results back! 1/2860 for downs, 1/39,588 for Edwards/Patau. So relieved - my age-related downs risk was 1/239.

kikisdelivery · 22/08/2016 17:00

Cinderella I had to phone for mine, rather than it being made for me. It definitely varies by area, from the sounds of it.

GinIsIn · 22/08/2016 17:02

Yes, I have my 16 week appointment a week late next Friday, and then my 20 week scan at the end of the month.

Naschkatze · 22/08/2016 17:35

I've had to book all appointments myself, including scans. I did think it was a bit strange that they don't get booked automatically.

16 week appt booked for 14th Sept. I hope they listen for the heartbeat!

DottyA · 22/08/2016 17:39

I booked my 16 week appointment at the previous midwife appointment.....

CinderellaFant · 22/08/2016 17:52

Hmm I will give them a call tomorrow then

Mysterycat23 · 22/08/2016 18:34

We are on a -non existent- tight budget and agree, quite often second hand is better value in long run as it doesn't fall apart/go crispy/bobbly after 2 washes Wink just won a bundle of 4 pairs of mat jeans for £12 inc postage on ebay, hope they fit! Some stuff will have to be bought new of course but we are really trying to keep it to bare minimum, future me will appreciate my restraint I'm sure. I am still well chuffed with the barely worn Next baby gros we got for 50p each at car boot!!

Sunshineface123 · 22/08/2016 18:39

I had to book my own 16 week appt too, I only knew I was meant to have as all the appts and scans you're meant to have are listed in the front of my notes. There's quite a few the later you get! X

FriendlyGhost · 22/08/2016 18:48

Great news Dotty!
My 16 week appointment was booked at my booking appointment. I feel like I'm wishing the summer away but I can't wait for that and then for my scan.
I thought I'd bought loads last time but ended up using and abusing the John Lewis next day collect from waitrose. Shopping during the 3am feeds is dangerous. I have no restraint!

LondonGirl83 · 22/08/2016 19:17

congrats dotty!

ScottishSnowflake · 22/08/2016 19:28

Congrats Dotty!

I think my stomach is starting to want to stretch. Does anyone have any good recommendations for creams or oils I should use? No too worried about stretch marks but would like to feel more comfortable in my own skin!

SpinALittleFaster · 22/08/2016 19:42

Cinderella great that you've found one :). It's really up to you but I'd probably wait so that I could try some with the baby there.

I don't get a 16 week appointment. I asked at my scan and was told there's nothing official until 20 weeks, but I can go to my midwife at any time if I want. I have a doppler so not too fussed about checking there is a heartbeat.

DottyA · 22/08/2016 19:50

Thanks Friendly, London and Scottish! (Friendly, London and Scottish sounds a little like the name of an insurance firm).

I've started to use bio oil and palmers stretch mark cream (one morning, one night) on my stomach, bulked out with a bit of baby oil on hips/boobs. I don't expect to avoid stretch marks as I got some in puberty, but I would like to at least try and minimise. We'll see in 6 months whether it makes a difference...

Wonderlust123 · 22/08/2016 19:59

I've got Palmers lotion (cheap option!). Although, I agree with previous comments that the (chocolatey?) smell is a bit odd. Using it twice a day, when I remember. Likewise, won't be shocked if I still get stretch marks, but might as well try to minimize.

GinIsIn · 22/08/2016 20:01

We have been looking at doing this- www.itsaslingthing.co.uk

I've switched to bio oil as the smell of the palmers was making me gag! I LOVE the mama Mio tummy butter but it's soooooo expensive

ScottishSnowflake · 22/08/2016 20:05

Thanks all, where's the best place to get the palmers or the bio oil from?

DottyA · 22/08/2016 20:05

How long do you guys massage cream/oil in for? I'm doing maybe a couple of minutes, but wondering if I should make an effort to do it for longer, at least in the evening.

DottyA · 22/08/2016 20:07

Superdrug/Boots should have them, though I've also seen bio oil in Primark, strangely. It was 7.50 for a bit bottle which is cheaper than the RRP I think. Ebay probably also worth a look.

wm3010 · 22/08/2016 20:08

No 16 week appointment in my area either 😢

I used bio oil last time and got loads of stretch marks, this time have treated myself to some nice Soap & Glory body butter to use on my bump just cos it smells nice and a little massage helps when I get achey.
