Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

You lot are on form this afternoon, am having a good chuckle esp at the beret-rage comment.

Twinkle on the web is a great site. Might have to order some nappies for the LO as well. Dd keeps asking for the potty and sits there looking delighted but doesn't actually produce anything. so looks like she'll be in the motherease for a bit longer. Might get some size 1 fluffles and maybe treat myself to a few sandy's as well. Fancy getting an Ergo sling too.

mammyjo · 01/02/2007 16:22

I have just been on the twinkle on the web site for a look and have been totally confused. I used pampers with ds, did think of reusables this time then thought no I will use pampers. Now my thoughts are going the other way but I do not have the faintest idea where to start. I would be looking for the easiest nappies that kind of work in the same way as a disposable. I am not in for folding terries. Also, do they take a lot of work in terms of washing. Just worried I will fork out for them and then not have the time to keep it all going IYSWIM. I know someone here will be able to give me some tips. I know this has been done before so apologies for going over old ground again but would be grateful for any advice.

CaptainDippy · 01/02/2007 16:23

weeonion - I am sure your beret is very nice - Don;'t listen to those haggard old bints!!

@ your MW nutty - bitch!!

Have done hoovering. Conservatory still smells of poo!!!!!! Have open door and sprayed muchos Oust....

1becomes3 · 01/02/2007 16:25

Oh yeah I think I may have sorted out my buggy dilema, the phil and ted E3, with the buggy pod.
Although it fits the frame apparently it is a bit hard to manoeuvre over kerbs.
You can't have everything so I guess I will just make do with struggling over kerbs.

mammyjo · 01/02/2007 16:27

Oust is a wonderful invention!! I spent a good part of my day cleaning my washing machine powder drawer. It had smelled a bit funny. Never knew I was supposed to clean in there, thought it did that itself with the soap powder. Needless to say it was shameful when I looked!!

liath · 01/02/2007 16:31

Mammyjo, I found motherease one size the easiest real nappies TBH. They dry quickly and are very easy to use. They are supposed to be birth to potty but dd didn't fit them until around 8 weeks old. They're still going strong and I'll reuse them for number 2.

We didn't buy many nappies at all before dd was born which I think is sensible as some fit certain babies better than others & it's quite an outlay if you end up not using them. We used disposibles for the first couple of months.

mammyjo · 01/02/2007 16:34

Ok, next question. Do I just go to the website and order them. Do I need other things too? I know some of you talk about liners and other things. I have no clue about those things at all!

flumppootle · 01/02/2007 16:38

1B3 the phil and teds looks great.
www.mailorderexpress.co.uk have a sale on their phil and teds e3 a the moment (and all accessories) just thought I would mention

liath · 01/02/2007 16:41

Motherease work best with a booster/liner that snaps on with poppers - we use the stay-dry ones.

You can make you own liners with fleece or microfibre which works out cheaper.

Paper liners are useful in addition as you can flush them & the poo away but they can lead to the baby's bottom staying a bit damp & more prone to nappy rash.

You'll need wraps - motherease airflow are the best and fit over most real nappy makes. The totsbots wraps are rubbish (apparently).

BTW I'm not on commission for motherease, honest. I have a few totsbots too AND they're made in Scotland!

duchesse · 01/02/2007 16:43

Hey guys! Hope you're all doing well. Glad to see so much talk of "real" nappies on here... ;)

mammyjo · 01/02/2007 16:46

Sorry for being so dense. If I didnt use a paper liner does that mean the chances of nappy rash are less? Also, how many nappies would you recommend to get started? Just thinking back to ds, I could easily get through eight nappies in 24 hours when he was tiny as he pooed after every single feed.

geordiemacminx · 01/02/2007 16:46

Hey duchesse - hows things?

Emmymummy · 01/02/2007 16:48

Just caught up and all I can remember is pooo all over everything (CD) and fishy things up noses (SOL) - Yuk! Have to go and cook tea for Emily now with those thoughts in mind....

1becomes3 · 01/02/2007 16:48

Cool thanks. You shouldn't have told me that flump poor Dh is alreay going to have a heart attack when he see's all the stuff I have been ordering.

Mammyjo-You go girl with those reusable nappies.
There is no way I would be able to keep up with a doulbe load of shitty nappies and clothes aswell as DD's, DH's and my stuff.

duchesse · 01/02/2007 16:50

Oh, you know. Still without child, but I at least have a firm diagnosis of hypothyroid now, so might actually be able to get pregnant again when that's under control. Alas not hypothyroid enough to treat with tablets, so have been referred to a specialist. I may be waiting some time...

I hope you're all still relatively lithe and comfortable, considering.

flumppootle · 01/02/2007 16:51

Hope that he's given you double the budget 1b3

liath · 01/02/2007 16:53

I reckon probably 12-14 nappies would be ok (though I've aquired a few more than that...). Dd has had less nappy rash since I stopped using paper liners with every nappy but she is a creature of habit and poos after breakfast so I use a paper liner in her first nappy of the day.

Hi Duchesse - how are you?

1b3 - I think cloth nappies and twins would be close to matyrdom, I'd be well impressed if anyone managed it without a nervous breakdown!

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 01/02/2007 16:55

Oh Duchesse, how lovely to hear from you. often wonder how you are, and I have seen you post on one or two other threads.
Really hope you get the thyroid issue sorted and that everything will slot in to place as it were.

Look after yourself.

Need to head to pick up dd. xx

duchesse · 01/02/2007 16:57

1b3- my experience of having two in nappies at once, albeit only for a few months (about 6 I suppose) sent even this hardened nappy-washer scurrying for the disposables! You can get biodegradable ones in most supermarkets now though if you feel guilty about the environment.

flumppootle · 01/02/2007 16:57

Hi duchesse

Sorry to quiz you aswell Liath can I ask something?
I took the plunge and ordered some Motherease/airflow wraps and fleece liners this morning for ds. He is 2 and not a very wet nappy man. How many nappies due you think that I need?
How is your sister doing now?

liath · 01/02/2007 16:57

Fingers crossed here too that you get to see the specialist soon & things get sorted for you, Duchesse.

Yup, all litheness & comfort here - well it would be if I hadn't spent the 2nd trimester guzzling chocolate...

duchesse · 01/02/2007 16:58

Ah SoL- you may have caught one of the more disreputable threads in the conception board guilty as charged...

liath · 01/02/2007 16:59

Flump, when we were away on holiday last year I managed with 8 nappies total but that was with a disposible at night and was washing nappies everyday. 10 would be the absolute minimum I reckon.

flumppootle · 01/02/2007 17:01

Thanks Liath as you can see I haven't got a clue but will learn as I go

maveta · 01/02/2007 17:02

SOSPL - interesting choice of words
Hi Duchesse! A diagnosis is a great place to start at least, no? Gives you something to work with.

Yay for more people trying real nappies..I'm all up for having others get into it so that when I'm tearing my hair out with piles of dirty nappies everywhere someone will be able to sympathise!!

mammyjo - advice ..SERIOUSLY do NOT start looking around too much! Was my biggest mistake and could probably put you off.. I am going to buy about 3 different nappies, a wrap or two and plan to start with disposables while I try my selection out on him and see how I get on.. but then some people go for the whole birth to potty packs right from the word go and are perfectly happy with it. Good luck!!
