katy44 - glad i am not the only one! some of it made me raise my eyebrows? some of it raised a laugh... not really me but like you i wanted to learn more about breathing! the cd has helped with it but not able to breath in yet for the length of time yet...

weeonion · 01/02/2007 14:00

eca - the hypnobirthing book by mongan. i actually prefer the active birth book by sheila kitzinger. i felt a bit more confident with it.

Katy44 · 01/02/2007 14:05

miabt - hope you're getting some sleep.
weeonion - yes, I didn't realise when I got it that it would be so spiritual! Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it's not what I was epxecting, I was looking for more practical breathing exercises - did you find anything like that, and if so can you let me know?
I wondered about the breathing in thing, either need to increase my lungs or learn to count faster!
Laughed at one of the exercies (I think it was the one for when you were actually pushing) that told you to breathe in to the count of 3 and then out for the count of 8, but breathe down rather than out of your nose/mouth - so the breath is coming out of your vagina!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can see the logic, but surely there'd be something seriously wrong with your sinuses if you could actually do this Might have PMSL at this one which is close, although not what they meant I don't think!!

weeonion - the only Active Birth books I can find seem to be by Janet & Arthur Balaskas (one has a foreword by SK) - is that what you mean?

maveta · 01/02/2007 14:17

Yay flumppootle for trying real nappies! Let us know how you get on.

I keep popping in and out so am not being very good at remembering who has said what but sorry for those you suffering from bad nights' sleep, SPD, general aches and pains, kids with the Pox...

I had a bit of trouble with sleep a wee while ago but for the meantime it seems to have resolved, I just shore myself up with a few pillows here and there to stop myself rolling over and that's normally me for the night.

I think that was the sound of me tempting fate...

CaptainDippy · 01/02/2007 14:20

Yes - and yey to Flump re@ Real Nappies - once you get into the "swing" of it, it really is 2nd nature - You'll be fine sweetie! If you have any specific Q's along the way - just ask - there's lots of us Lentil-Weaving Cloth Bots on here!!

weeonion · 01/02/2007 14:20

katy44 - yep - that is the one! our local library is eally goo d- they will order in whatever books you want and you can keep them out on renewed loans. try yours if you dont want to lay out all the money at one go on something that you dont know if it is going to be any use!

flumppootle · 01/02/2007 14:24

Thanks wo and maveta re: real nappies.
Have been looking on lots of internet sites and can see that this might become addictive I had no idea what was actually available but will see how I get on with the motherease.

Katy44 · 01/02/2007 14:25

Would you believe I don't really have a local library!!
Anyway, am a bit of a book fiend and can always re-sell on ebay.
I've just discovered that play.com also sell books - the difference is they don't charge postage whereas with amazon you have to spend £15! So buying that book only is £8.50 on play or £10 (inc P&P) on Amazon. Worth remembering.

Oops meant cd and maveta

CaptainDippy · 01/02/2007 14:30

Our local library doesn't have a loo!!!!!! Ridicuous - tempted to pee in their house plants or let DD1 poo on their latest display when I go there. Unbelievable.

CaptainDippy · 01/02/2007 14:31

That's ok flump - no one could compete with me for sieve-headedness, trust me!! [winik]

CaptainDippy · 01/02/2007 14:32
Wink
geordiemacminx · 01/02/2007 14:32

I just rang my local library to see if they stocked it... the woman that answered the fone is about 104, and partially deaf... it took me 4 attempts for her to get the title..another 3 for me to spell out the author.. apparently they dont have it.. but she listed every other pregnancy and yoga book that has ever been written, and rattled off a full synopsis.. despite me telling her about a dozen times that it was ONLY the A C T I V E B I R T H book that I was interested in... Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Is it any wonder people get frustrated with the old... had to hang up eventually...

runnyhabbit · 01/02/2007 14:34

Afernoon all

Took ds to nursery, and explained what happened in the night - wasn't sure if they would let him attend. They were lovely and said they would take him to give me a break, but if he started showing any signs of sickness then I would have to collect him. Thought that was very reasonable of them (they are normally v strict on sickness)

Just picked him up, and you'd swear nothing happened last night - running around nursery like a tornado at least it meant that I could catch up on some sleep this morning.

Got mw appt at 4.15 so going to talk more about these stitch-like pains. Although its reassuring to know that I'm not the only one suffering from them.

EllieK - sorry about your relationship we're all here for you

SOSPL - a mothers work is never done

If anyone ever wrote a job description for a mother, no-one would apply for the job

Treated myself and ordered the breastfeeding book that some of you have mentioned. Nice to be able to treat myself for a change, and will need some reassurance in case we don't get on with bf this time round.

flumppootle · 01/02/2007 14:35

Gmm, psml and now cant stop coughing

eca · 01/02/2007 14:37

have just ordered ina may gaskin's and kitzinger's books off amazon Now I'm thinking I should have gone to library!! Oh dear, perhaps wont mention that bit to dh. I'm not safe online at the mo.

CD - NO LOO! That's outrageous!

Hello to everyone else. Poor kiddies with pox

weeonion · 01/02/2007 14:39

lol frustrated with the old - yes indeedy! i just had a bit of a stroppy call to my mum and she is only 55!!!!!!!

GMM - can you not fill in an online request form and save the bother of having to speak directly to someone?

i have to confess - i shouted at a stranger in the street today as i thought they were cheeky. i went to go into a local shop only to realise the door was locked. i looked at the 2 women standing ouside and said " oh , the door is locked - do you know when they might be back?" to which one of the hatchett faced old biddies replied "get to the back of the queue" before turning to her crone and saying "hmmm posh cow - do you see her beret?"
red rag to this bull - i now to think of the fish wife torrent that came out of my mouth as i struted away. how dare she laugh at my beret!

weeonion · 01/02/2007 14:41

flump - with the laughing and coughing - is there any wee leaking or do you have a pelvic floor like a taut elastic band??

maveta · 01/02/2007 14:41

flumpootle - there is SO SO much around. That's what I like about the idea, you can get quite excited about the different types of nappies and wraps (yes I am that sad..) whereas I can't quite imagine being thrilled at dh bringing me home a brand new packet of Pampers!

I'm hedging my bets in case I just can't get the hang of it but I really hope I do..

The bad thing is that there is so much choice you risk being like me and thinking, oh this is easy, I'm going to buy xxx and then someone suggests another make, and another, and another, and another site you can buy from etc etc [head spinning emoticon]

weeonion · 01/02/2007 14:47

maveta - i agree with you. all a bit too confusing... i have lost track of all i have ordered and bought in the way of real nappies. no longer sure of sizes, wraps, microfibre liners, boosters etc etc - i think i am going to have a cupboard full of panicked bought terry cloth that is not actually useable together and will just have to have the baby permanently sitting in the nappy bucket with the lid off!

flumppootle · 01/02/2007 14:47

weeonion, legs are clamped shut so no leakage can occur - lol

Just found another site that does trial packs with a free nappy bag that deliver to spain if you are interested Maveta.

Have to stagger to school now for dds, hope bladder doesn't give up when unclamp legs

weeonion · 01/02/2007 14:52

flump - with all the incompatible nappies/ liners/ boosters i have bought - ihave sure i could fashion something for us for when we have to unclamp legs... away to the sewing machine with me!!!
