New thread because the old one's about to hit the 1000 posts mark.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I reckon ligament pain is definitely a sign of growing, kitty.

I kept waking up with period type pains and convinced I was going to go into labour. My sleep is getting more and more erratic as time goes on. If it weren't for the fact that I get up 4 times a night to pee, I'd get bedsores I reckon.

Thankfully I am working from home today so don't have to battle on the tube.

I'm going to see the consultant on Monday so hopefully will get some questions answered. It's encouraging to hear about the epidurals - I'm a bit weird about needles in my spine but there's some good advice here.

Dolly - I'm in West Hampstead.

Eidsvold - where are you?! Somewhere in the southern hemisphere I'm guessing

3rdTriMossTer · 02/02/2007 09:44

Just a quick question as I have been given the wonderful task of trying to sort out Darth's crappy candidate management system today! There goes my doing sweet fa!

If you do end up having an emergency c-section, do you have to have it under general anaesthetic?

I was speaking to a woman the other day who said she did, is that usual?

sazzybee · 02/02/2007 09:50

I've never heard of that - four of my friends/family have had them and none had a general anaesthetic.

Darth as in Vadar?

muppetisacat · 02/02/2007 10:01

Dolly - when i had my epidural for ds I was completely not in pain - like you had been given the first one whilst screaming in agony - so felt strange walking in off the street and having one set up - however it was absolutely fine. I can't even remember it being uncomfortable. Just leant over some pillows whilst sitting up. The stiller you sit, the quicker they are.

What is going on with these BH's?? So relieved to hear we're all getting them - last night in bed I thought a couple of them could be meaning business!

Bethoo - at your dogs burping, farting in bed and vomiting in the kitchen! Don't believe you'd be spared that even if you had your dp living with you. Men are just as capable of doing such things!

Rosy - your dressing gown sounds a bargain.

Good news Callie.

35 weeks (boy)

eidsvold · 02/02/2007 10:09

Moss - I had what was classed as an emergency c-section with dd1 but was able to have a spinal block - dd1 needed to be born but could wait iyswim for a spinal block.

I think some people who have 'crash' sections end up having them under a general anaesthetic.

sazzy - I am in Australia but lived in the UK for four years from 2000 - 2004 - where I met my dh and had dd1 and then we emigrated ( or I came home) with dd1, dh and dd2 on the way in 2004. I lived in Essex.

eidsvold · 02/02/2007 10:11

crash as in mother and baby are in danger and they need to get going NOW!!

I was not in any danger and dd1 could wait a little while. she had not grown in 2 weeks and my dopplers were poor with regard to nutrition rather than oxygen etc. I had also lost a lot of amniotic fluid. SO it was not life threatening.

emergency c-section covers those like mine and what is called a crash section.

bethoo · 02/02/2007 10:37

Callie - it all sounds positive so keep smiling!

i am still at work and envy you guys who are already on maternity!

last night i started getting ready for baby and was almost in tears as it dawned on me i have no idea and always thought my partner would be there to help but he is out the picture and i no nothing about babies just that thye are little and delicate like china dolls!

Laidback - my mohter is the same about snide comments! she says it in a friendly manner but you know she is trying to hurt you! she says i am middle aged (29!) and asked if i had been tested for Downs since i was high risk what with being so old!! then she asks me if i am jealous because she has lost weight and is thinner than me! hellooooooo i am pregnant!

Rosy - my strep b is active again as had swab and am back on antibiotics. my mw said that she swabs for strep during labour though it takes 24 hours for the results so i do not see how it helps! also found i had thrush but i cant tell as i do not itch and with the discharge during pregnancy how can you which it is??!!!

Muppet - if my dogs had any accidents my ex hubby would leave it for me to wake up to and clean!!!

could these lower ab pains be 'lightning'? when the baby is starting to drop?? or just annoying bh as they are daily now? i have them now!

this morning little one was being very vigourous and fun to watch as it looks as though he is trying to claw his way out! hopefully he will not be one of these babies who wants to stay put as hope he comes early so will not need to be induced!!

36 weeks today!
boy (so they said and better be as everything is blue!!)

LunarSea · 02/02/2007 10:44

bethoo - pretty sure mine has dropped. Had loads of odd things going on yesterday - combination of BH's (some of them quite painful), sharper pains which were quite frequent for a while - almost to the point where I was wondering if I should be timing them although they never lasted long, and lots of wriggling from little one. Today I definately have about an inch gap between the bottom of my boobs and the top of the bump, which wasn't there yesterday!

Sounds like babys head is engaged Lunar! yay!

Bethoo it is really daunting at first, this is my fourth and I'm still feeling anxious about handling a tiny one again, but you'll soon get used to it. Your parents will fall in love with their grandchild too! It'll all work out.

My lovely friend is coming to see me today with her 5 week old. So I'll be all gooey and broody I bet!

3rdTriMossTer · 02/02/2007 11:06

Eids thanks for that I think hers must have been a "crash" one.

Sazzy yes Darth as in Vader! I name all my colleagues after characters from Star Wars. I do realise that's a bit odd!

Sorry can't reply to everyone got to get this done!!!

divastrop · 02/02/2007 12:32

i also hate the idea of epidurals.they can stick needles in my arms till the cows come home but my back
they arent an option for vaginal births here so it doesnt matter.

i had to ring the doc about those antibiotics as they were making me puke,so i ahve to go and get some different ones later.

i feel like screaming today.dp has hardly said 2 words to me since wednesday and im wracking my brains trying to figure out wtf ive done wrong.its like living with my mother.i really hate when people go quiet on me,i end up imagining the worst possible thing and believing it.

34+2

3rdTriMossTer · 02/02/2007 13:01

Diva lots of sympathy your way, my dh does exactly the same thing, he will sulk and sulk for days and no matter how often I say "what's wrong?" he won't tell me. Or worse still he will start to tell me then go quiet again. It's so annoying! What does he say when you ask him what's wrong?

bethoo · 02/02/2007 13:09

Diva - it is still nice ot have a choice though! what if the pain is unbearable? i am hoping to use just gas and air (rather be knocked out!!) but if it got that unbearable i would like ot think i had the choice!
saying that i too hate needles! you should see me when i have my routine blood tests!

divastrop · 02/02/2007 13:28

bethoo-i found that the pain was worse when i was drugged up.i live in the middle of nowhere though, thats why you cant have epidurals where i am,so its never been an option for me to consider.

moss-he always says 'nothing',and if i ask him more than twice he then says he's in a bad mood cos i keep asking him whats wrong when theres nothing wrong and i'm just being paranoid.but he likes to store up the things that p**s him off and have a rant at me every couple of weeks, whereas i like to discuss things that bother me straight away in a calm and adult fashion.

my mum used to do exactly the same thing,i remember being terrified as a child ,knowing that she'd found out/discovered something terrible i'd done, but not knowing what was going to happen when she finally exploded.maybe it's a gemini thing??

Rosylily · 02/02/2007 14:09

Diva my dh hasn't rung or sent a txt all week since he left on Friday. He has forgotten I had a check up yesterday and he hasn't even rung to talk to the children
It's out of sight out of mind with him. I'm contemplating sending him a sarcastic txt. Actually if he rang to see how I am I would go into early labour from shock!

I had a little practise holding a tiny baby today, my two rascals were SO interested and desperate to hug the baby. I can see it's going to be hectic until the novelty wears off!

sexkittyinwaiting · 02/02/2007 14:13

Diva, my dad did that sulky crap when he was pissed off with me as a child. It's such bloody infantile behaviour. Give your dp a slap Sorry that's not very helpful really.

Well, I just got an email from the woman who filmed the last birth and she's asked if I would mind very much if she did this one too.
I said "yes" as it's such a wonderful keepsake. I know it doesn't make it a very private affair and I was hoping for a more intimate birth this time, but TBH I wasn't actually aware of her at any point during the last labour. Can't imagine it will be that exciting for people to watch "oh there's that woman with millions of children giving birth in a dark bedroom AGAIN" Perhaps I should repaint the outside of the house to disguise it !!

Laidack, she might be interested in you!!!

3rdTriMossTer · 02/02/2007 14:13

Diva I don't know, my dh is a pisces but it sounds like exactly the same thing! "Nothing's wrong, nothing's wrong, nothing's wrong". So I stop asking him. And then, when he finally does tell me what's wrong, he adds, "not that you care, you haven't asked me"!!!

He's a bit better than he used to be actually; he could sulk for weeks, now it is a matter of a day. Oh good grief imagine if lo takes after him, just imagine the teenage years!

Lunar if the head is engaged, are you going to be the second here to pop?

Bethoo I am sorry to hear about all your worries, all I can say is, at least this is as good a place as any to be if you know nowt about babies. I'm sure that when your lo is born your Mum will want to be there and help all the time.

sexkittyinwaiting · 02/02/2007 14:17

Bethoo, many of us here have completely insane mothers so feel free to let of steam. We can tell you some of our mother stories, it might make you feel better

bethoo · 02/02/2007 14:19

Moss - it seems so surreal though! still cant believe there is anything in there. been waiting so long for this and it is scary!
can i tell if i am engaged yet as i feel pressure on my bladder like a little weight and my bump sticks out furthest at my bellybutton.
getting impatient as it is just the wait now! though i am sure that when he comes i will be thinking whatthe hell was i thinking??!!!

foxabout2pop · 02/02/2007 14:19

Diva - I hate that too - it just creates an atmosphere of tensions doesn't it - so you can't relax until you know what you've "done"

My DH may be useless but at least he doesn't sulk!!

Its exciting reading about everyone BHs, heads dropping etc.

Shall we open a book on who will be next to pop?

foxabout2pop · 02/02/2007 14:21

My Mum's barmy too BTW

bethoo · 02/02/2007 14:23

sexykitty - that is a relief i thought i was the only one with an insane mother! i could tell you some stories too! some of them are quite unbelievable! i think she was quite resentful as she had all three of us by the time she was 21 and when i was that age i was out every night and having a social life. i think she feels as if she missed out. but it got to the stage where i could not be in the same room as her. lived in perpetual fear of what she would say or do! she is very manipulative. i think that is why i never wanted kids before as i feared becoming like her which freaks me out!

bethoo · 02/02/2007 14:25

i thought sazzybee was getting induced on 1 March 07 or are we guessing who will come early? so are we all eating pineapples and curries and taking raspberry leaf supplements?

LunarSea · 02/02/2007 14:28

Moss - I hope not as in theory I've still got 7 weeks to go. Given that estimates from measurements are that s/he is probably about 6lbs already, I'd guess it's just running out of room and decided to shift down a bit so there's still room to move in there.

spongecake · 02/02/2007 14:28

hi diva and all - my dp is being a nightmare atm as well- he has apologised and refuses to discuss any further, which sounds ok on the surface, but not really as I want to talk about why he upset me so much and make sure he knows I am not being unreasonable and difficult and he just needs to pacify me.

sister probs- well mine just moans to my mum that I haven't called her- I work full time/ prgnt with first baby/ v stressed generally -she does'nt work, (doesn't need to) kids grown up. my mum just laughs as she doesn't like us talking anyway as she gets jealous.

Bethoo, she also makes comments about my being old to have babies. She just wants a reaction and she gets one

am at work and want to go home. am so fed up, and am scared the stress will bring on labour? is that true- I cry a lot and no sleeping.
