I don't think a Poddle Pod is designed for unsupervised sleeping but it's probably the same for a Sleepyhead. I'm going to get a Sleepyhead for daytime naps, I think.

BunchOfBobs · 19/08/2016 19:40

Miley I read that sleepyhead was safe for sleeping, and had all the relevant safety requirements hence why we got it over the poddle. Also the poddle I don't think has the padded centre just the surround, if that makes sense.

So excited to hear from Potato once she's a Mama. Grin

I had my first postpartum meltdown today. Had visitors descend, my parents, aunty, nan, cousin and son. My aunty was happily eating a choc chip cookie I baked and then casually fed some to the dog. I utterly freaked. Literally screamed at her "no no no no!" And then went on a hissy fit about how chocolate kills dogs. Her response was amazing, I'm surprised she didn't slap me, she just apologised and said "I didn't know".
Did I stop there? No, I carried on hysterical with "he's a dog, you don't feed dogs human food". I was shaking and on the verge of tears, wobbly voice the lot . It was hideous and so so unnecessary. I apologised profusely once I calmed down and everyone just laughed at me saying I was being the mother lion protecting her cub.... Bizarrely it was over the dog and not Atticus. Ugh I never want to feel like that again.

AudreyBradshaw · 19/08/2016 19:53

I would have and have done the same bunch Our Nacho has an extremely delicate tum, even lamb can give him the squits. So I am somewhat over-zealous when it comes to it! He's like dh, for such a big strong lad, he's got the constitution of a jellybaby.

Having a day of the intermittent weeps today. Confused I'm making a hat/cardigan combo for baby to come home in for something to keep me busy.

miley what a cutie! Bet you're exhausted! Feet up and chill me thinks!

Hope all our labouring/potentially labouring ladies are ok. Positive, strong thoughs to them all!

Pinklily1 · 19/08/2016 19:55

Bunch, it's probably all of your hormones going all over the place. I'm sure she won't hold it against you, you've just had a baby after all. Try not to beat yourself up about it Flowers

The health visitor was lovely when she called round this afternoon. I was slightly disappointed she didn't ask to look round the house though given it is sparkly clean now! Miley - I offered her tea and biscuits and she refused Hmm Maybe they aren't meant to accept them or something! I'm taking one for the team and eating the biscuits myself instead Grin

I hope Potato is doing ok.

Shelb, any developments? I've not had any Braxton hicks since this morning so nothing is happening here.

Pinklily1 · 19/08/2016 19:56

Audrey, are you knitting them? We need a picture of the finished products!

Co5mo · 19/08/2016 20:02

I wouldn't take offence at the health visitor not wanting tea and biscuits. They'll be offered at every house they visit and there is only so much tea you can drink in a day.

We'll soon have thread baby number 3 😀. Hope everything is going well.

Shelb how are things going? Pink baby will come when she's ready but I hope you don't have to wait too long.

Pinklily1 · 19/08/2016 20:13

I'm quite pleased she didn't eat them - I bought foxes crunch creams which I love, so I'm merrily munching through them whilst warning the Olympics Grin

Pinklily1 · 19/08/2016 20:13

*watching, not warning!

Mileymoocow · 19/08/2016 20:18

I thought they probably would have bunch, I'm seriously considering getting one. Once I've had a proper look at the poddle I've realised it's a bean bag with no filling in the middle so I definitely wouldn't be comfortable leaving baby in for unsupervised sleeping for fear of smothering. If it makes you feel any better I'm like that with Milo already Blush I hate hate hate people feeding him things he isn't meant to have. My 6 year old niece even knows that if she wants to feed him he is only to be given a chicken foot from his freezer. Sorry it made you feel crappy though SadFlowers

Thinking of potato! Hope everything is going well.

co5mo you're probably right, she did mention something about already having 2 and she won't be able to stop peeing. It feels like such a waste doesn't it pink! I felt like offering her a grand tour and making her wear white gloves to sweep for dust just so I could gloat!

IndiX · 19/08/2016 20:32

Oh bunch I'm a serious crazy dog lady with my 2 pups. My grandad constantly feeds them crap even when I tell him not to and thinks I can't see him Angry winds me up SO much! sorry you felt bad afterwards, your hormones are probably up the wall atm too which doesn't help. I'm sure she won't take offence.

I'm so excited for news from potato! Hope she's doing well.

I'm apparently not getting a health visitor before due date due to a 'staffing problem' in my area. Seems a bit odd but midwife said she'll keep seeing me until beanie is 10 days old and then I'll see my health visitor. Tbh I'm glad I haven't had an appt becuase I have no motivation to do a big deep house clean anytime soon!
Currently in bed ( 8.30pm Friday night, this is what my life has become) with bloody heartburn/indigestion. My windpipe feels hot and I feel burpy and sickly. Fun times. Hope you're all doing ok and having a more exciting evening than me!

leoniethelioness · 19/08/2016 20:40

I'm hoping the radio silence from potato means her little girl will be here soon!

Newmrs22 · 19/08/2016 21:08

Eek I finally check back into the thread in time to see another baby! Yay.

Good luck Potato you'll be fine! I had the exact same thing with going to the hospital and contractions stopping. Home really is the best place.

Bunch congratulations on the boobs working. Hopefully mine will too. They feel so sore today. I'm pretty sure my milk is coming in.

So, my birth! Overall it was a positive experience, but there were some not so nice parts. So to recap, Sunday morning waters went. No contractions just period pain. After a couple of hours the midwife wanted to examine me, went in, she confirmed I hadnt pissed myself Grin told to go home, rest etc. and come back at 10am on Monday for further assessmENT if no labour. We went for a walk, had some food and in the evening started with contractions. Not too bad, manageable with breathing, took some paracetamol. Continued all night, never getting that regular, sometimes 5 mins apart, sometimes 3, sometimes back to 8. Awake all night, which in hindsight was bad. Definitely should have rested more.
3am called midwife, said try to stay at home, continue as I am, 7 am called again as felt like they were stronger. Went in and they really tapered off! Kept in for a few hours. At 10am told they'd like to give me intravenous antibiotics because of risk of infection. I declined and was told I could go home until the evening when I'd have to be monitored.

Slight contractions all day. Went for a walk again. They started ramping up late afternoon. At 10, rang hospital and told it was essential to go in and be monitored so in we went. At MAU they put me on monitor, baby was fine but consultant wanted to induce me. I again asked what the risks were. Very small increased risk of infection. So I agreed to intravenous antibiotics, but no induction. Examined and was 3 cm at 1am. Admitted to a bay with 3 other ladies. DH and I went and stood in the corridor for a couple of hours, marching up and down, breathing through contractions. A lovely midwife saw me and thought I looked like I was progressing. Examined me again at about 4am and had progressed to 6cm so I could be admitted to delivery suite and started gas and air!
Had to be continuously attached the foetal monitor throughout labour, but managed to stay upright. Gas and air took the edge off the contractions but they were really starting to hurt. Next time I was checked I had gone to 8cm, expected to deliver quite soon. After the next 4 hours had passed I was checked again and was STiLL 8cm which was disheartening. At that point the consultant came and told me to have the syntocin drip because it was taking too long. Was suggested an epidural, but I felt I could manage as my body seemed to be doing it. The drip made the contractions incredibly intense, to the extent I really felt like I couldn't cope, but I also didn't think I could sit still for an epidural so I continued just with gas and air. At the next check I was 9.5cm! So the consultant tried to push the rest of the cervix away. Then told me to wait an hour to make sure it didn't flip back. I literally couldn't. I started pushing involuntarily.
Baby arrived after 1hr 10 of pushing at 7.31pm on Tuesday. Delivered naturally, with no stitches needed. Just two small grazes. They thought I had a PPH and the room filled with people but they revised my blood loss in the end, so all was fine.

It all sounds a bit much, but honestly it was fine. My top tip is to keep calm, and also don't be pushed into intervention you don't want

LisaTheSimpson · 19/08/2016 21:16

Wow, New, that sounds dramatic. I really appreciate you being so honest and sharing your experience.

Sorry you had such long periods of contractions, and it sounds like the pain was pretty intense. You're amazing!

Out of interest, why did you refuse the anti-biotics the first time round? Was there a risk or downside you were worried about?

leoniethelioness · 19/08/2016 21:22

Congratulations! Well done for listening to your body and sticking to your guns!

Danni89 · 19/08/2016 21:35

Wow new! Sounds like a positive story, well done for sticking to your plan and going with your body- I also have that fear of not sitting still for an epidural

BunchOfBobs · 19/08/2016 22:10

Oh well done New that sounds so positive!
Do we have a name or photo being shared? I completely understand if not.

How are you settling with bubs? How quickly did you get home? Uber Jel on the lack of stitches. On that note my wound hasn't gotten any worse the last 2 days, next check on Wednesday/Thursday.

Laurenrl · 19/08/2016 22:22

Good luck potato!!!!

And congratulations new, im glad it went well for you and I'm hoping you're loving being a new mummy!!

Also having the period type pain, started getting milk leaks at night about a week ago and my latest symptom is having soaking wet underwear, but pretty sure its just discharge..

Hope everyones doing ok! X

AudreyBradshaw · 19/08/2016 22:42

So pleased your foof is starting to heal up bunch and excellent news about your boob skills (sentence I never thought I'd type! )

Super well done new what an experience for you! Am another who would love to hear anything you feel comfortable sharing!

shelbTa · 19/08/2016 23:17

Evening all

Thanks for sharing new - and amazing effort!!

Aww bunch, totally understandable hormonal episode - and to be fair chocolate is really bad for dogs! Good news the girls are performing now. Atticus is so adorable on IG.

Pink - I've had two more pretty intense BH, one just now actually. But thats it. My hands are ridiculously swollen for some reason, had to take my engagement ring off which is quite sad.

X

Co5mo · 20/08/2016 03:55

Insomnia brought on by hunger and thirst. I knew I'd regret that Chinese takeaway.

shelbTa · 20/08/2016 04:37

I'm so pleased someone is up too!!

PotatosMum · 20/08/2016 04:38

Morning ladies, I'm a mum!!!!

Arya (Are~Yah) Maria was born around 7:30 yesterday evening at 6lb7oz and she's absolutely gorgeous!

So after my post I called the hospital again and they got me up there for a trace etc. I still had protein in my urine, high blood pressure and my blood test results showed problems with my liver enzymes, all of which pointed to preeclampsia so they decided that as I was already labouring they would induce me.
I was admitted and they broke my waters as a first step which involved a woman sticking her fingers up my foof and then prodding the sack with something akin to a big blue knitting needle, it didn't hurt but it was uncomfortable. Next I was told to go and walk around for 2 hours then they'd put me on a drip... I made it to the cafe on the ground floor, chose a sandwich and then had to go to my room again because my contractions were so painful. I was given gas and air (which made me high as a kite) and put back on a trace to discover that I was having regular strong contractions. Not long later they decided not to bother with the drip as I was doing fine without it.
Labour pains were incredibly unpleasant and poor OH had his hand squished to death. I asked for an epidural several times then changed my mind. Finally my body started pushing automatically but when I was examined I was only 7cm and they became concerned that Arya's heart rate was dipping when I pushed so they gave me pethidine which helped a little, they also then decided to put a heart monitor on Arya's head to monitor her better and we're still telling me not to push right up until they attached it when they said actually now you can push.

I was up in the stirrups for the actual delivery, pushing was really hard and I was so tired I wasn't sure I could do it but obviously I did with a lot of stern words from midwife and OH. All in all from waters breaking to delivery was about 4 hours Shock

Afterwards I had to have a few stitches, at first they thought I had a serious tare and would have to go to theatre but it turned out on examination to be far smaller and was done at the bed. Once the injection to numb the area was in (and I was loopy on gas and air) it was fine and I didn't really feel anything but pulling.

After all the worry I haven't had much bleeding at all, and should be let home tomorrow. The only thing I have had is dizziness probably brought on by lack of sleep.

Speaking of which...

Will try to pop on with photos tomorrow Smile
