Dozy there are 17 months between mine and I really needed the double until DD was ready to go on a bought board then I got a stroller and a buggy board when DD turned 3. Funny enough my DS (2.9) uses the buggy board and his (is lazy to harsh?) 4 year old big sister goes in pushchair!! Typical eh x

tutulove1 · 15/08/2016 09:37

A bought board? I meant a buggy board

Hi everyone!

Good luck for this week's scans!

Cloey I think everything's been said, but sorry you've had such horrible treatment and definitely complain if it will help you feel better, and call again to rearrange and make sure you get the scan at the right time if needs be.

As for buying things, when I was expecting DS, I had a budget and spreadsheet and bought things over 6 months. This time, we hardly need anything new (car seat, bedside cot, perhaps a Moses basket). I'll probably buy a little something after the 12-week scan like I did for DS. We won't find out the sex, and we didn't last time, which means we already have lots of gender-neutral clothing for the early days. I have quite strong opinions about gender stereotypes (although DS has a natural preference for wheels, and isn't very interested in dolls for example. But he loves his kitchen!), and we dress him in quite neutral clothing even at the age of 2. I'd be happy to recommend some brands if anyone were interested. I think if we had a girl this time, I would splash out on some dresses and skirts once she arrived, but DS lived in vests and PJs for the first three months, so there's no rush.

Also, I just wanted to say we use cloth nappies and wipes, so if anyone is interested in that, feel free to ask Smile

Carolann8584 · 15/08/2016 09:55

Finally updated my stats now I'm at a computer (not doing much work lol)

MW on Wednesday Smile hope my scan won't be too long a wait after, I will be 9+5 on Wednesday.

I am planning my budget already, checking prices etc, as this will be our first together we don't have anything second hand yet, my OH sisters have 7 DC between them but six are girls. So not expecting many preloved items if we have a boy, their girls are all very pink IYKWIM.

Already working out budget for after beany arrives i.e MAT Leave, MAT pay, holidays I will have 5 weeks to add to my MAT Leave. I'm a planner!

neonrainbow · 15/08/2016 10:17

I had my scan! Both babies growing nicely, one is measuring smaller than the other, the sonographer said it's possible they were conceived at different times which accounts for the size difference. Too small to do the nuchal scan so I'll have to go back in a week or so. One baby measuring 12 weeks nearly, the other just over 11 weeks. I'm definitely finding out the sexes of mine as early as possible. I don't like gender stereotypes either but I'm accepting if these are going to be dressed in second hand ill need to give in to pink and blue. I'll be getting quite a lot of things knitted by my nan so will give her some nice turquoises, teal, purple... not just pastel colours.

On another note i dont fit into any of my jeans now so back to primark i go!

Butterpuff · 15/08/2016 10:32

Lovely neon I cant imagine seeing two swimming about on the scan. Its fantastic.

Carolann8584 · 15/08/2016 10:33

Lovely news Neon Smile

alphabook · 15/08/2016 10:52

Great news neon!

tutulove1 · 15/08/2016 11:28

Magic, I'd be interested in cloth nappies and advice/info please. After two successive babies and endless amounts of disposable nappies I've thought about giving the cloth ones a whirl.

tutulove1 · 15/08/2016 11:28

Neon Awww congrats. Wow twins conceived at 2 different times is so rare.

WhereDoAllThePokemonGo · 15/08/2016 11:28

Great news neon! Good luck to everyone getting scans this week. I had an early (private) scan at the weekend as i had a week of brown spotting between 6/7 weeks, and have also had very few symptoms (just fatigue). There was a lazy wee peanut in there with a heartbeat fluttering away which just took my breath away as I wasn't expecting good news!

On another note, I am also Irish and due on St Patrick's day, and no-one asked me if I was wanting a termination etc, I would have been upset if they had Confused sorry that you were treated like that Cloey, it's really not acceptable or normal!

Butterpuff · 15/08/2016 11:46

Tutu I'm sure Magic will be more help as she has been successful with cloth but my advice (as someone who tried to try it but didn't really succeed) would be to buy second hand and really get a complete kit from the get go. I wanted to buy new because its so expensive, and started buying after DC was born, a few at a time. Because I didn't actually have enough to cloth bum full time I didn't get into the routine and fell back on disposables. But when I was using cloth it worked fine. I almost have a full started kit now so I may buy the last few needed and try again with this DC. I love the look of a great big squidgy baby bum in cloth. They are adorable! Grin

Butterpuff · 15/08/2016 11:48
  • confusing sentence, I wanted to buy new PFB but because its so expensive started buying one at a time, and left it late after DC was born. Sorry.
tutulove1 · 15/08/2016 12:12

I've just read some reviews on cloth nappies and I thought who am I kidding, cloth nappies are never happening for me (the idea and the ethics really appeal to me) but in reality I know I'll be knocking on Aldis door for the disposable ones just for the convenience.

alphabook · 15/08/2016 12:38

I love the thought of cloth nappies but I'm not sure whether I can deal with what I imagine the reality to be (the mess and the amount of washing). Especially since it's my first baby and I have zero experience with babies so everything is completely new to me.

cyclinggirl22 · 15/08/2016 12:50

I'm keen on cloth nappies too especially when they are a bit older maybe 3 months. A friend of mine uses them and as people say once they bought all the initial stuff they loved it and wouldn't change back. I'm still undecided due to the amount of work they create or are they not actually that time consuming?

louise1609 · 15/08/2016 12:59

Time for me to bow out. Scan not good, delayed miscarriage.

Good luck to everyone

Happygojo86 · 15/08/2016 13:00

Those considering cloth, look up tj's cloth nappies. I use them with DD, I love cloth. I use disposables at night though and if we go away or out for a long time. But day to day I love it. I also used cheeky wipes at first but I have found them more difficult since DD has had less nappy changes

NameChange30 · 15/08/2016 13:02

neon Glad your scan went well! Maybe you released two eggs at slightly different times?

I'm also against gender stereotypes and the deluge of all pink v all blue. I have nothing against them, it's just when they're the only colours available it frustrates me. If mine's a girl I will buy some dresses, but they won't be exclusively pink and frilly! DH and I want to find out the sex but I'm in two minds about whether we should tell everyone. I'm wondering if we can get away with just telling the people we trust not to go mad on pink or blue!

Anyway I'd love some gender neutral brand recommendations please ItsMagic. I've bought non pink/blue presents from JoJo Maman Bébé, Mothercare (a really cool Wonder Woman vest!), John Lewis and sometimes Boots... Although they all have a gendered crap stuff too, of course.

DH really wants to use cloth nappies. I'm not convinced. I realise there are lots of advantages but I worry about the extra faff.
