Thread five for the chattiest bunch of preggers ladies you've ever had the pleasure of encountering. We're greeting the second trimester with excitement and apprehension, and lots of questions, humour, reassurance, empathy and advice.

Fourth thread here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/2684139-february-2017-thread-4-are-we-the-chattiest-bunch-or-what

I think it was up until the point DS began showing signs of trying to rollover. From memory, when he was about 4-5 months old.

Ubercorn · 07/08/2016 15:52

None of mine liked the cot bed until they were around 5-6 months old, they liked the snugged in feeling of the moses basket.

divadee · 07/08/2016 16:15

My daughter slept in her cot in my room from day one. I had a Moses basket for the daytime downstairs but just used the cot at night.

divadee · 07/08/2016 16:29

uber that information on finding childcare was fabulous and already making a shortlist of ones to email and see if they will have spaces next September and follow up with a visit!!!! There is one that is only open term time so doesn't charge for outside of that so would fit the bill completely. And the joy of working in further education means we finish at the beginning of July so I would have a couple of weeks extra of childcare in July to still have time to myself!!! And get all my next years planning done without little one around!!

Readyfortwo · 07/08/2016 17:03

DS grew out of his Moses basket @ 3 weeks, so we ended up using a travel cot with the bassinet but in the top until he moved into his own room at around 4 months. Moses was nice for moving him from room to room during the day though so I'm hoping to use one again for baby. Also hoping not to have another 10lb mega baby!

Shellbell0403 · 07/08/2016 17:14

I honestly don't know what to get...

Had abit of a panic attack and teary moment earlier. Talking about baths and stuff and got petrified as if I won't be able to do it. DH has 2 dds already so he has experience and I just kind of started panicking xx

LondonGirl83 · 07/08/2016 18:18

Shell what do you meant you 'won't be able to do it'. Are you afraid you won't be able to? If your DH has loads of experience, that's wonderful as he'll be able to support you while you a learning as a new mum.

Neither DH nor I have any experience with small babies so I'm sure we'll both be terrified the first few weeks that we are going the break our little girl.

Shellbell0403 · 07/08/2016 18:21

Yes london petrified that I won't be able to.. I'm sure I will be fine. Just abit of a worrier.. starting to feel really

Wonderlust123 · 07/08/2016 18:27

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking the moses basket would only be for nights, but that's a good point about being able to use it in the day also. Might start making up a list of things and slowly getting a few bits and bobs.

ShellBell, I agree it can all be a bit overwhelming. I've been panicking since finding out! Starting to feel a bit more chilled about it now. At least we've got 6 months ahead and wonderful group here to figure things out!

Ubercorn · 07/08/2016 18:31

You'll be fine Shell, really you will be. It's a fast learning curve and you'll quickly find your confidence.

When we had DS1 I knew literally nothing. He was formula fed and every time he cried I presumed he was hungry so would stick a bottle in his mouth. They were doing his 24hr check and asked how he was feeding, the midwife had a good laugh when I said "he's having a feed roughly every hour but he's only having about half an ounce each time...." I had to get them to show me how to bath him before I went home and the first bath I gave him at home, I was so worried about it being too hot that I made it far too cold.

Dutchy88 · 07/08/2016 18:46

I'd never held a newborn or changed a nappy when we had ds but you pick it up so quickly.

Diva I know how you feel about feeding. I couldn't get ds to latch and ended up expressing all of his feeds for 5 months because I refused to give up. I felt like a huge failure when I switched to formula but I know that's a stupid way to feel I plan on trying to breastfeed again this time and am a lot more clued up on where I can get support. I think ds being in the neonatal ward for a few days didn't help.

We had the Chicco next to me in our room for ds and a sleepyhead in a wooden playpen for him to sleep downstairs. I absolutely love the sleepyhead.

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 07/08/2016 18:51

Shell I asked the midwife to change DS's first nappy as I had never changed a nappy in my life - I was scared I would do it wrong! Blush

You learn as you go, and every day is a new experience and a new bit of knowledge- you'll be fine! x

sleepyMe12 · 08/08/2016 07:31

Morning ladies just getting ready to go for my scan. Anybody else have scans today?

ScottishSnowflake · 08/08/2016 07:32

Good luck today sleepy Smile

LondonGirl83 · 08/08/2016 07:37

Morning sleepy-- my 12 week scan is at 9am this morning. Hubby and I getting ready to leave the house in the next 30 min or so.

divadee · 08/08/2016 08:12

Morning all.

Good luck to all scans today. Can't wait till all the scan waiting is over for everyone on here.

I'm 15 weeks exactly today and still getting nausea and sickness. When will it ever end?!?

ScottishSnowflake · 08/08/2016 08:22

Hi diva. I'm 14+1 and still suffering here too unfortunately! Was hoping it'd start to go by now!

divadee · 08/08/2016 08:27

scottish hugs to you. It sucks. I never had this with my daughter first time around. This time it's hell on earth!! I would give anything for it to go away.

Dreamingoutloud7 · 08/08/2016 08:31

Good luck to everyone scanning today.

Has anyone decided or got a rough idea in mind when they will be starting maternity leave? I know it's early but I received all my maternity leave pack so was going through it.

sleepyMe12 · 08/08/2016 08:40

Good luck london I'm being scanned at 9 aswell.
I'm currently in the waiting room trying not to be sick, why are these places always so warm?

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 08/08/2016 08:43

Hi everyone, not been on for a while so thought I'd check in. I'm 14+3 today, its going quite fast now! My feet are.already starting with the swelling, very annoying its happening this early. I carry a lot.of fluid when pregnant and it happened from 25 weeks first time and 17 weeks last time. If one more.person tells me to keep my feet up I'll scream. Yes, its.so easy to do that when you have a one and three year old, a house that needs cleaning, a dog that needs walking and everyone needs to eat Hmm . I'm feeling pretty well though otherwise.

Wanted to ask, I know a few people did mention slimming world. Is anyone else still 'dieting' (I say that very loosely) while pregnant? I gained 4 stone with my second child (2 with first) but have since lost all of that and more. I got down to a weight where I was only 1 stone over my goal weight before falling pregnant. I still use mfp but have changed the calorie allowance to a maintain amount rather than a loss and one day a week I don't use it and eat whatever I want, a blow out day so to speak. I'm doing well and have only gained 4lb so far, 2lb of that was during a week I fell off the wagon and ate like a pig every day lol. I've maintained for the past 5 weeks so feeling g happy about that. Just wanted to know if anyone else is.doing the same and how they're finding it x

sleepyMe12 · 08/08/2016 08:57

Hi keeping slimming world isn't dieting it's more healthy life style.
My midwives recommend it to follow if your overweight etc

ScottishSnowflake · 08/08/2016 08:59

Hi dreaming. The way my due date/ holidays and maternity leave is looking, I'll be finishing on 16 Dec. Mad!

FlipperSkipper · 08/08/2016 09:11

Dreaming I'm planning to finish at 37 weeks, but to take 2 weeks holiday first so my mat leave will start at 39 weeks. My annual leave year runs January to December and I'm meant to use it all before I go on mat leave, but I don't see how I can with a February due date without stopping work stupidly early! I'll get paid for any leave I don't take, and an extra few weeks pay will be nice!

CeeCeeEnnEss · 08/08/2016 09:15

I'm so glad this and the previous threads have been in my life, because without the wisdom of MNers I would have assumed I could get a nursery slot a few weeks before I returned to work. As it is, I just called the one nearest us, and they're almost full for September next year onwards EEK! So I booked a viewing for next week, which seems nuts, but we'll need full time care so need to get in quick.

So thank you wise ones :)

Good luck for all scans this week!
