thanks karina that sounds like really sensible advice and I think that's what I will try to do.
Re your milk duct - sounds weird, is it def not a little white head/blocked pore - I've found a few of those tmi Blush and think its probably from leaking a bit without realising...I had a squeeze and it popped out Blush!!

Chatter what a horrendous day! take it easy today! I was so impressed by how quickly I was seen when referred to be monitored the other day but they did say it just totally depends and can be horrendously busy.

Can I echo the FB page request please Smile would be nice to meet you all in real (ish) life xx

i'm working from home today and its so lovely just chilling on my bed with my lap top doing a little work!
Got builders here fitting a couple of new units in our miniscule kitchen and a new worktop and some new shiny appliances at least that is what they are supposed to be doing but there is a lot of huffing and puffing about not realising that the job was so big bla bla bla - anyway, think i've cajoled them into pulling their fingers out with bribery in the form of hot sausage rolls and pasties from tescos!!

EnoughAlready999 · 19/08/2016 12:21

One week will not be long enough to establish breastfeeding (bf) and avoid nipple confusion obsessed so unless 1 week of bf is all you want to do then I'd recommend 4-6 weeks of exclusive bf before introducing a bottle.

I feel like I'm the only person who thinks bf is easier than washing, sterilising and making bottles up!
There are benefits to exclusively bf especially to do with the balance of gut bacteria which obviously affects digestion but also their whole immune system.

April241 · 19/08/2016 12:35

chatter that sounds dreaded! Hope you're calm and stress free now.

30 weeks today! Wahoo! Finally out of the 20's, seemed to draaaaaaag on.

Much cooler here today and it's raining but it was so hot during the night that it's very much welcome.

HobnobDunker · 19/08/2016 12:58

What a nightmare Chatter, don't blame you for getting a McDonalds after all that!!!

Enough I must admit the thought of getting out of bed and hauling my wobbly arse downstairs in the middle of the night to make up bottles doesn't appeal to me much either- but I'd imagine that ff babies don't cluster feed so I guess it's swings and roundabouts to a certain extent in terms of what people want to put up with/persevere through.

I just hope that I don't feel like a failure if breastfeeding doesn't work out for us. I've already been getting advice from people such as "whatever you do don't let baby breastfeed all day long" - this came from someone who said she stopped breastfeeding as her DS wasn't getting full. It sounded to me like he was probably just cluster feeding so when I tried to explain that from what I've read that sounds normal she just said that it's teaching them bad habits Confused Another (childless) friend asked me about getting my newborn in to a routine ffs! I'm no expert and haven't gone though it but I'm pretty certain that newborns can't be coerced in to a routine. It's as if I got pregnant and everybody became a fucking expert!

LisaTheSimpson · 19/08/2016 12:58

Ooh, another request for the FB group! Who do I PM to join?

I avoided joining back when it was all set up because I didn't want to tempt fate about this pregnancy. Now that I'm almost 34 weeks, I should probably accept it Grin

LisaTheSimpson · 19/08/2016 13:00

Hobnob - probably a good time for the 'smile and nod' response.

I think if I started to properly respond to comments like that my blood pressure would go through the roof....

SchnitzelvonKrummsverylowtum · 19/08/2016 13:07

I'll add another FB request.

I'm not sure about nipple confusion to be honest - I exclusively expressed until DS was 6 weeks old, then he finally got the hang of BFing. For a while I kept expressing a bottle or two a day (by this time I had over supply issues), but eventually he started refusing bottles and my supply settled down. I then had trouble re-introducing bottles when I went back to work.

Personally, my plan is to try to exclusively BF for at least a few weeks, express a little and try to introduce a bottle or two per day. However, I'm just going to take it as it comes, try not to worry too much about it and not beat myself up if it doesn't work as I plan.

Northernlight22 · 19/08/2016 13:14

I'm wondering if it's time to actually join the fb group too - I'm another who didn't join earlier so not to tempt fate! Can I have a link / request too please?

EnoughAlready999 · 19/08/2016 14:25

You sound very sensible and well-informed Hobnob.

I never had to feed all day but if I had to I would as it would probably be a one-off linked to a growth spurt or supply issues. It certainly wouldn't get them into bad habits. Once babies grow a bit and become more interested in the world around them they don't want to be feeding nonstop!

I am hoping to express a bit this time so that I can go to DD's Christmas production and maybe out on my birthday in January.

HobnobDunker · 19/08/2016 15:20

Smile and nod is fast becoming my mantra Lisa!

Enough, honestly I think she was exaggerating and don't think she was feeding all day but she said once she gave DS formula he just slept so that proved he was then full whereas before the seemingly endless breastfeeding wasn't doing anything. I've read up on it quite a bit because I'm a geek like that but if I hadn't heard of cluster feeding/growth spurts and taken what she said as gospel then I'd likely think baby was starving and give up pretty soon.

Anyway, not much longer until I finish work and I can just hide away from other people at home washing baby clothes and cleaning the house from top to bottom Grin

April241 · 19/08/2016 15:34

When does the nesting start? I've been off work 5 weeks now and every day I potter about and clean bits but that's just because I'm so flicking bored! My friend was up at 3am bleaching the doors inside her kitchen cupboards a few weeks before she had her son! Hilarious!

MeDownSouth · 19/08/2016 18:08

Asda baby event starts today! :)

Afreshstartplease · 19/08/2016 18:22

Thanks for the heads up me down south

Ooh excellent!!!

Something strange has happened to my bump, there's quite a large white swollen area on the underside, came up about an hour ago but not painful or itching. Very weird.

Northernlight22 · 19/08/2016 21:19

I nipped in tonight medownsouth but our store doesn't seem to have it on yet. (Not that I need much else!)

thistlescot · 19/08/2016 21:38

Can I have a facebook link too please?

thistlescot · 19/08/2016 21:40

I'm 32+3 but no ones ever mentioned what they're predicting the baby to weigh is this something they normally do? Am having more growth scans as have GD so just wondering if they'll tell me how much they think e weighs?

Northernlight22 · 19/08/2016 21:56

Have they been plotting your growth on the chart in your notes thistlescot?

April241 · 19/08/2016 22:02

Thistle check the section in your notes where they write up the measurements like AC, FL etc, there will be an estimated weight there :)

JulietteL · 19/08/2016 23:30

For those who want to join the facebook group, please send me a PM with a screenshot of your fb profile (full name, profile pic etc.) so I can find you on there and send you an invite.

obsessedlex · 19/08/2016 23:30

Just saw this on FB and thought it was quite appropriate given our convos today!

JulietteL · 19/08/2016 23:49

Thistle my midwife told me that as I'm having a growth scan at 33 weeks, they won't bother trying to estimate weight via tape measure as it's less accurate. So that may be why they haven't done it for you either.

Kariana · 19/08/2016 23:52

Enough I can't remember as it's advice I've had from more than one source, most written, but it does include the midwife at my last appointment. I may have been over optimistic with the week thing though Blush I think it was possibly more like a month I was told now I think about it.

On the other hand my friend who recently had a baby exclusively formula fed for first few weeks as she couldn't get bf to work. Then she cracked it and now the baby won't take a bottle so even the whole nipple confusion/breast feeding being impossible if you introduce a bottle to early isn't necessarily true.

Afreshstartplease · 20/08/2016 08:22

There are 60 days until my due date.

Yes, SIXTY!

Two months yesterday!

That is all. Grin

Re: joining facebook - if you can't send me a fb screenshot for any reason, just send me a PM anyway and I'll sort another way around it...
