Any tickets left for the pity party? Back ache is the big thing for me - I do very limited activity and I end up in agony, needing paracetamol and a hot water bottle. Ever so strange as I've never had any issues previously. I really should look into yoga I think.

Also, I miss wine. SO MUCH.

corinne65 · 04/08/2016 09:56

Latinata - you did make me laugh at your food crisis. I've taken a very simple approach - I eat everything. I tried for some while to get an answer to my question re. whether low levels of food poisoning that didn't affect me could affect my baby - but no one could tell me. Plus I felt that the first trimester was the most dangerous. I eat a lot of seafood as I know a lot of pregnant women are deficient in iodine.

I've had a few small glasses of wine or beer - but not every day. And I'm off the proper coffee just because my heart feels likes it's working hard enough already.

Bump felt like a grew a lot yesterday - all hard & huge. I almost laugh out loud when I see myself in a big mirror - it's just amazing what has happened to my body.

28wk midwife appointment next week - and NCT classes start soon. Am convinced it won't be long before I'm on the naughty step. I want a t-shirt that looks like the canteen scene from Aliens . . . .

tiredmumrighthere · 04/08/2016 10:56

Whooping cough injection for me this afternoon phoned this morning to make an appointment and receptionist was like "we can do today" caught me a bit off guard but I think it's a good thing as I won't have time to feel anxious about i.

I'm fascinated with pregnancy cravings atm and any pregnant lady I come across my first question is "what are you craving" my friend is 30 weeks and her craving is smelling furniture polish! Mine is peaches atm but it changes every few weeks, I'm literally eating 4-7 peaches a day I can't get enough!

What's everyone's craving?

tiredmumrighthere · 04/08/2016 10:57

About it*

Stretchedfortime · 04/08/2016 11:25

I've been loving peaches! Tinned or fresh. But recently I've moved on to milk chocolate with hazelnuts. I used to love 85% chocolate but I can't stomach it now.

latinata · 04/08/2016 11:28

Corinne- very sensible. I'm also having the odd glass of wine but generally think that whilst my body might be kinda messed up after pregnancy my liver will have had a much-earned rest!!

I've not got huge cravings but have ordered DH to bring me a giant tray of sushi to the hospital. I miss raw fish!!

helenatroy · 04/08/2016 13:40

Am eating tons of peaches and apples too. Was not a fruit girl till now. Also I let myself have one glass of champagne a week but Madame has other ideas and I always feel sick after. Every day a new symptom. Today it's like she's stroking me from the inside. And yesterday I went for a long walk and had a listen with the Doppler. She was the one who's heartbeat was accelerated.

smellsofelderberries · 04/08/2016 15:05

Oh yes to the apples. Green apples with slices of fancy cheese on top are my breakfast every day right now! I went for sushi the other night and had some seared salmon. Wasn't cooked all the way through but we were with other people and all sharing, and my shrimp ebi rolls were being snaffled fast, so decided to risk it! They were glorious. Husband is taking me out for some fresh Sydney rock oysters when baby arrives Grin

Corrine, also can't believe how much my body has changed. Weirdest thing has been my ribcage expanding! I'm finding some camisoles are very snug around the chest (and tummy). It could be partially boobs, but I'm still in my pre-pregnancy bras (just), but my ribcage has definitely got bigger. So strange.

Really panicked this morning about movements. Went up yesterday evening as I hadn't felt her in hours, even after lying down and drinking iced water for an hour. All fine, and they said to come up anytime, and daily if I need to, but today she's still been quiet. I'm feeling regular movement, but it's no where near as strong as it was for the past 2 weeks up to the weekend. She always perks up in the evenings so fingers crossed she'll do so again this evening as normal, and if she's quiet/has gentle movements tomorrow I'm going to go up again. Can't believe this is happening a few days before we embark on a huge international trip. Fingers crossed its just a little growth spurt and she'll go back to being crazy by the weekend.

helenatroy · 04/08/2016 15:09

Smell. Try a little sugary snack that always gets mine going when she's been quite.

coppergrey · 04/08/2016 15:22

I love that they tell you to come back daily if you need, Smells. That must be so reassuring to know they're available to check whenever you need them. Sure she's just having a bit of a rest and will be back to wriggling very soon.

My craving is just sugar in general. I keep freaking out about gestational diabetes because all I want is chocolate, cake, fizzy drinks, sweet fruit... it goes on and on!

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 04/08/2016 15:33

My eating habits have been the same these last few days copper! I don't want any actual meals, just biscuits, cakes and crisps. I know this won't do baby any good so need to change it asap, but I really don't feel like eating properly!

When is everyone thinking about taking maternity leave? I've pencilled it in to take it at 39+1, but as DD1 was born at 38+2 I'm thinking this might be a little too late?

coppergrey · 04/08/2016 15:43

I have zero enthusiasm for proper food, Muffy - the thought of cooking makes me despair! Hopefully I'll get over it soon...

I'm going off at 36w. But I'm self-employed so bit easier for me - will be dialling down my workload from beginning of Oct, I think.

Fedupithink · 04/08/2016 17:37

Copper and Muffy me too, sugar. All day every day and for weeks. Keep scaring myself googling gestational diabetes and swearing I'll be good but it's literally all I want. So ashamed.

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 04/08/2016 17:40

It makes me feel so much better knowing I am not alone here! One of my close friends is a bit further along in her pregnancy and we went out for lunch the other day. She was being super healthy and I felt so shit ordering deep-fried Mars bars! (I didn't actually, but in comparison to what she ordered I might as well have done. And now I'm suddenly thinking about how good a deep-fried Mars bar must actually taste...)

Fedupithink · 04/08/2016 18:00

I promised myself I'd be super healthy but it's sometimes a case of no food or bad food and I figure no food might be worse. I try to trick myself with fruit but it just doesn't cut it.

Pyxie · 04/08/2016 18:16

I'm so glad it's not just me that's turned into a sugar fiend! I have to only buy bags of sweets as a treat 'cause I know I'll eat the whole pack in one go! Luckily fanta zero seems to satisfy the craving a bit for me.

coppergrey · 04/08/2016 18:58

Fedup this is exactly me - every damn day!

bobcat85 · 04/08/2016 19:38

I'm currently considering eating my third Milky Way of the day. Really shouldn't but nevermind.
I've got a gestational diabetes test in a couple of weeks. I'm only slightly over the threshold of when you're meant to have the test. Hoping it'll be ok.
My arm still hurts from my whooping cough injection yesterday.

CakeAndChocolate · 04/08/2016 20:22

I am mainly eating sugar at the moment, although I did have a stir fry for dinner tonight as I'm pretty sure I haven't had any vegetables for the last 2-3 days.

bob when I had whooping cough jab last pregnancy my arm hurt for a good 4 days or so afterwards. I'm not looking forward to it this time.

smells if you are still feeling movements but just softer/more gentle than before then it is possible that baby has moved position, this has happened to me a couple of times and change of position has been confirmed by scan (I happen to be having lots of scans anyway). Great that the midwives were so reassuring about going in to get checked out though.

latinata · 04/08/2016 23:03

Hmmmm I didn't really think the more gentle movements might be a bad sign (or not), I had just presumed that not feeling anything for a while was obviously bad news... but that if there was something then baby was clearly OK.

Any wise words?!

CakeAndChocolate · 04/08/2016 23:19

latinata I think that at this still relatively early stage pretty much anything goes in terms of movement, but having said that the guidance is to get checked out if there is a change in baby's movement, not just a reduction. I always err on the side of caution and get checked, because what's worse, feeling like you've wasted somebody's time or the unthinkable? I find the Kicks Count website really helpful and informative for the latest guidance on movement.

coppergrey · 05/08/2016 10:25

Just had a read of the Kicks Count website - it is very informative and really useful but has got me worrying a bit now! Up to now if we're having a quiet day movements-wise, I haven't been concerned as I can still feel her and she's always got going again the next day. But according to that site I should go get checked out straightaway... think I'll be doing that from now on!

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 05/08/2016 10:34

When I went for my booking (the only time I've actually seen a midwife!) they told me not to count my kicks later on in pregnancy (as I was told to with DD years ago!) because it causes unnecessary worrying. That being said, I was very worried the other day when the baby wasn't moving around much at all, so the movements are reassuring.

I think the kick-counting thing might be a little out of date. I would just try different things to get the baby moving that day and then if you're still worried, get checked out the following day.

Fedupithink · 05/08/2016 10:52

The midwife told me to start taking notice of her movement patterns rather than actually counting the kicks, so morning and night - if I have a bath etc.

She did say that until 28 weeks they still have the space to move around lots so can end up facing or kicking against the spine which means softer movements or not feeling them at all. She did say if I was concerned to do the cold sugary drink and lay on my left hand side for an hour then give them a call.

Seems sensible to me and I agree, id rather go in 100 times than miss that 1 time it's important.

coppergrey · 05/08/2016 11:08

Kicks Count does say not to count the kicks (which makes their name VERY confusing) - it's all about monitoring the pattern of movement, not trying to count a specific number of kicks that could vary so much baby to baby. The bit that worried me slightly is their advice is if you notice ANY change in movement at any time from 16 weeks, to go get checked out straightaway.

The language is a bit scary, really. But I guess they need to be clear and firm about the importance.
