Yes southdowns I'm taking my preventer in the morning and evening even though I normally only use them in winter (cold air is my worst trigger) but found myself really struggling from week 7 onwards so upped the preventer meds which seems to have helped a little. Not being able to take antihistamines for hayfever seems to be making things a bot worse too. Confused

Bigfam · 30/06/2016 21:45

Oh no Southdown hope you're OK, that must have been scary! I had asthma as a child (luckily I've grown out of it) but I can remember having to use a big rugby-ball shape thing?!

My bump is huge, even leggings ate starting to feel uncomfy. Think I should invest in some maternity clothes...

goinggrey1978 · 30/06/2016 22:06

I'm allowed to take antihistamines again now, I have multiple allergies as well as eczema and hayfever, asthma is really Mild, I take certazine, checked with baby doctor at 12 weeks scan, Also with gp and the pharmacy, it's safe to take along with my eye drops but I must not take any hayfever nose spray at all, as it contains steroids but if I feel wheezy at all I must take my blue inhaler because it's more dangerous not to take it! All very complicated but I'm glad I asked!! And also glad I can take something for my severe hayfever!!

Thisisbonkers · 30/06/2016 22:34

Must be pretty scary to have asthma, I'm lucky to have never suffered.

What's weird about my bump is that I'm back in my smaller work trousers. And can do them up! Yet bump has exploded?! Less bloat perhaps?

peanutbutter2409 · 01/07/2016 07:43

Morning all! I want to take advantage of the sales that are on at the moment, but as this is my first baby, I really need some advice. I aim to breastfeed - but what if I can't?! I want to buy a pump and I've seen the Tommee tippee express & go products - but what if I can't breast feed? And I've also seen the Tommee tippee perfect prep machine for a really good price - should I get that too/instead? I'm planning on going back to work within 6 months so I assume he'll then have to be formula fed?
Also - what size clothes should I be buying? Most babies in our family have been a minimum of 8lbs. I'm trying to get as organised as possible bit am just getting confused.
What are your recommendations?
Thank you!

Grapefruit8 · 01/07/2016 08:00

Watching with interest for replies peanut butter as I have been wondering exactly the same! I want to breastfeed but will be returning to work at 6-7 months... I don't know whether I should try mix feeding from around 3 months? It's my first so literally no clue. Ive bought a few bits in the mothercare sale as they were 50% off!!

OrianaBanana · 01/07/2016 08:24

I've been very breathless recently and had strange heart palpitations although I don't have asthma - it's been a bit scary.

No further blood so fingers crossed everything is fine. My mum pointed out it may have been piles Blush Mw appt next Wednesday.

The great thing is that with Internet shopping it's usually possible to get things the next day if you really need them. My DS was 10lb 6 so went straight into 3-6 month clothes - I'd get those (you'll need them anyway), then a week's worth of newborn and a week's worth of 0-3 month baby grows (or 2 weeks' worth if you like) but not the small cute outfits just yet - and you can order more once baby has arrived when you know the size. You may be given cute outfits as gifts anyway.

I planned to breastfeed but bought a few bottles, a steriliser and some ready made formula. Luckily I did ebf for 5 months but it was touch and go for a while so I'm glad I had them on standby. My SIL combination fed. I did use the bottles a bit for expressed milk anyway (and later for formula) though I found the manual pump I bought difficult. I think you can rent good pumps?

Lovewatchingrainfall · 01/07/2016 08:34

From experience I would get an electric pump! So much easier. Only because you go back to work does not mean you need to formula feed you can express and put that into bottles however I found formula feed easier after 5months as expressing was getting to hard.
Perfect prep is amazing. Not all bottles are the same and the same goes for formula what works for one might not work for another. As others have said I would get a mixture of sizes I had newborn sizes however my first was only 5lb and it drowned her. So a few sizes would be good.

SouthDownsSunshine · 01/07/2016 08:52

I'm feeling a lot better this morning, but last night was tough. It felt like I had an elephant in my chest. I think it was triggered by a tree pollen, plus having a cold. I should have taken an antihistamine.

Clothes sizes, dd was 6lb7 so we needed 'tiny' clothes for a good few weeks. We took a few tiny and newborn into hospital with us.

TipBoov · 01/07/2016 10:54

Clothes is a tough one, made even more difficult by the fact that not all shops sizing is consistent!

DS1 was 8lb7oz and only fitted newborn size for a week. So I think this time round I'll get a pack or two of sleepsuits and vests in newborn, and no outfits until 0-3.

BristolLFR · 01/07/2016 11:23

Just had my 16 week appointment. The midwife said NICE don't suggest heartbeat scan at 16w as they may not find it, and there's no clinical reason to do it (they're not checking for anything). But she said she'd give it a go if I liked and accepted the risk she may not find it. She found it really easily and it was lovely :)

becciandbump · 01/07/2016 12:27

Just bought a lovely playmat from the mothercare sale it had 20 quid off and is very colourful and fun x

Bigfam · 01/07/2016 14:03

OrianaBanana I've had a few funny turns with heart palpitations, they really freak me out, it's a horrible feeling!

Glad you're feeling better today Southdown, fingers crossed you don't have anymore attacks.

Baby clothes always get me, last time I bought loads of tiny baby stuff and dd3 hardly got to wear any of it. I think newborn will be the way forward!

TinySalmon · 01/07/2016 14:41

I think it was bumble who was asking about cramping after orgasm/sex which I get too... I've found an answer in one of the baby books: a combination of increased blood flow to the pelvic area and contraction of the uterus. It's apparently common and nothing to worry about in low-risk pregnancies.

becciandbump · 01/07/2016 15:42

Is it just me or does anyone else get really irritated when friends family tell you how hard parenting is and you'll never get a lie in again etc etc. I feel like screaming that we've been planning this child for years and I couldn't give a shit if it keeps me up at night. I get that it's hard work but I'm intelligent enough that I don't need someone to tell me that. Sorry for the rant ... Id welcome advice from friends but I just don't see how this sort helps!! I must be just having a hormonal day to feel this irritated x

SouthDownsSunshine · 01/07/2016 17:43

Haha Beccia.

It's bloody hard, but not surprisingly it's also bloody amazing and totally rewarding. I don't understand the need for people to be so pessimistic around other people's joy.

Practical things though, enjoy every lie in. Go out for lovely meals with your partner. Read a book in quiet. These are the things I miss the most. But I still get to do them, just not regularly!

StubbleTurnips · 01/07/2016 17:59

Becci I was like that with DD, and fuck me was it hard work. Wish I'd listened more, but nothing can prepare you!!

Popskipiekin · 01/07/2016 18:16

Becci I know, what is the point of telling me I'm going to be exhausted? How on earth is that helpful? But..... I do agree with SouthDowns about the things you can do now to make the most of your time. I appreciated it would be hard work, but I don't think I'd seriously twigged that proper long undisturbed lie-ins would be a thing of the past! And because I felt fine during the pregnancy I worked right up until the last minute, so I really was tired when DS was first here. Silly silly. Ah well, yay for afternoon naps :)

becciandbump · 01/07/2016 18:28

I know ive been trying to rest and we've tried to get some couple time in and are planning a week in Ireland in September. I think it's just Id really appreciate people giving me tips on how they did cope or ways they have worked things to make it easier. Just telling u it's hard work doesn't really help matters it's not like we have any other choice but to get on with it xxx

Thank you tinysalmon It's weird because sex is more pleasurable since I've been pregnant but I'm literally woken up in pain with cramps about three hours later.
I'm glad to hear it's normal.

Bigfam · 01/07/2016 20:39

The best bit of advice that I'll pass on is when baby does arrive, when they're napping, take the opportunity and do the same Smile
Thought I'd share a rare photo of my three girlies together, it's very likely the new arrival will take after her sisters rather than her brother! And another 3d scan from the other day

Mrsthedog exclusively breastfed until about eight months but used the medela swing to pump and I could give expressed breast milk from about three months I think.
Our experience was that it was tough and hard for first six weeks and then got a bit easier and then again from 12 weeks. Hardest part was that Mrsthedog could pretty much only feed DD leaving other tasks to me. It was toughest for Mrsthedog of course who also felt a little like she was becoming a one trick pony.

Bigfam · 01/07/2016 21:34

MW listened for HB today & gave me a bit of a telling off for using a Doppler Blush next appointment is at 24weeks

barkingtreefrog · 01/07/2016 21:38

I bought maternity jeans in the mothercare sale! Grin
Oh, it's so nice to be able to wear jeans again!!! I was limited to scruffy gym leggings or dresses and nothing in between as none of my trousers fit!
Lovely photos bigfam, great to see the 3D scan as you've got the same due date as me!

Becci one of the benefits of hardly anyone knowing is that no one had made any stupid comments Wink.

17w today and already getting anxious about the 20w scan Sad
