I think my LO is growing as kicks are feeling stronger. But I have an anterior placenta so whilst sometimes kicks are so strong I can see it from the outside I can go almost whole days feeling very little, I think it depends on where he or she is aiming half the time!

I know my midwife was surprised I could feel anything at just under 25 weeks, I am now 26 weeks and feeling a lot more, the gaps in movement I don't like but I'm fairly confident that nothing is wrong... Well I hope not anyway!

Hanbeth84 · 01/10/2016 19:32

Forgot to add that little Miss Stubborn still stops when oh tries to feel. They were so strong the other day that my belly was bouncing yet nada when he tried. Feel silly sat there with him cupping my bump for 10 mins. So thought i'll try my mum as she knows what to feel for more. Again stopped the second I moved. Still, I quite like that she's strong minded lol.

hels18 · 03/10/2016 09:39

My parents managed to feel a couple of kicks at the weekend which was so special. It's their first grandchild and the looks on their faces were priceless!

Around 10pm is definitely when it is very active for me and my husband can usually feel movement and kicks.

This is now making it all very real and I am actually enjoying being pregnant a little more than I was now. I still can't wait until January when it is over though!

wispaxmas · 03/10/2016 10:08

Hi everyone, just poking my head in to see what January is like as I'm now having a January baby. I've been on the Feb thread for ages, EDD is 1 Feb, but I'm going to be having a planned section the week before. Hope you don't mind me dipping my toes in here.

I've heard the FB is closed to new members now, though Sad

KimberleyAnn · 03/10/2016 18:58

Hi everyone xx

I am also due January, the 9th!

Would love to make friends with other mums due around the same time xx

hels18 · 04/10/2016 09:18

Hi wispa and Kimberley. How are you both getting along so far?

I made my annual batch of sloe gin last night - although not to be touched until after baby arrives of course. Hurry up January!!

KimberleyAnn · 04/10/2016 09:36

Good thanks apart from I've come down with a cold/flu this week so trying to take it easy!

Absolutely love sloe gin.... yum!! There seems to quite a few in this group due January, so exciting.

X

Hi everyone,

Does anyone else feel like January is dragging!
I have now got a pain in my right bum cheek. Hurting to walk a bit and sleep!

hels18 · 04/10/2016 10:26

Yes, January still seems ages away! I'm pretty much ready for baby now as the nursery is all set up and the pram has arrived. I do feel like the last few weeks have gone very quickly though and I'm approaching 25 weeks.

My next midwife check is this afternoon and am guessing we'll talk through plans for actually getting baby out - so far have avoided thinking about this!

Kimberley definitely don't overdo it this week - lots of rest!

Vixxfacee · 04/10/2016 10:30

Hels which pram did you end up getting?
What does this midwife appointment involve? I have mine next week.
Have they spoken to you about options if where to have the baby etc?

hels18 · 04/10/2016 10:38

I'm not really sure what to expect this afternoon Vixx - probably another pee sample, listening to the heartbeat and going over birthing options. I shall report back after!

They haven't spoken to me at all about options, other than trying to persuade me to choose a non-emergency birthing centre 40 minutes from my house. It looks lovely, but the local hospital with maternity unit is 10 minutes away so I am definitely going for that!

I went for the Silver Cross Pioneer in Eton grey. It's so lovely and I am very pleased with it. There are so many options available I went for the one I was quite overwhelmed when trying them all out!

Vixxfacee · 04/10/2016 10:48

Yes please let me know what to expect !
There's a birthing centre attached to my hospital where they have 8 birthing pools, partner can stay over in double bed and there's free parking and a kitchen. Only thing is all they offer is gas and air!

I have no idea what to expect but I suppose could be transferred to the main maternity if there were any issues or I wanted epidural. It's hard to decide as it's the unknown.

I was looking at at the silvercross too. Just hoping the price goes down in January.

I have my glucose test tomorrow. Hope it goes well. I have eaten alot of sweets as it helps with the sickness Confused

MagpieCursedTea · 04/10/2016 11:01

Vixx good luck with the GTT! Eating sweets won't have caused GD, don't worry! Hope
you get the all clear, but if not, I'm on my second GD pregnancy so feel free to ask any questions!

Hels hope the midwife appointment goes well! Mine was just urine check, blood pressure, bump measuring and listening to baby's heartbeat. She also checked to make sure I'd had my flu jab and whooping cough jab. I had to choose my hospital at booking in though!

Welcome Kimberley and wispa!

It's exactly 3 months until my due date now! It feels like it's going fairly quickly in some ways, but having GD and all the blood testing and diet managing that goes with it is causing time to drag a little.

Something odd with the thread..I can see on threads I'm on that magpie has written to posts but they have disappeared when I actually come on here!

Vixxfacee · 04/10/2016 11:09

Oh it's there.
Magpie what causes GD and how do you manage it?

3months to go how exciting!

Hanbeth84 · 04/10/2016 11:31

Hello new people. Looks like the groups had a burst if life.
Fasincating seeing tbe birthing options. Where I live its the hospital which is about 15 mins away or home birth. Hospital all the way! I want as many people who know what the're doing and as many drugs to hand as possible. But I am not good with pain.
Also, anyone being looking at the scare stories about snow and picturing themselves wading in 3ft of snow in the wee hours?!

We have also picked the pram this last week. A Silvercross waywarer in black. I also like the pioneer but balked at the slight increase in price when i don't really go off road (and my parents buying that so want to ask). Idyically dreaming that if i go for a country walk in a wood i'll wear a sling. Which i know won't happen lol. Went to a Mothercare event and got 10% off which is £50 so just need to order it now.

Good luck with gloucos tests. I don't think we get them here unless symptomatic but got 24 week app om friday (then straight on to weekend away whohooo).

hels18 · 04/10/2016 11:51

I don't think they do the glucose test as standard at my surgery anymore as there has been no mention of it yet - although I'm not yet 28 weeks. Fingers crossed all the other samples come back fine. Hate the idea of downing a large lucozade as I cannot stand the stuff!

Every area seems to do things so differently. We are so lucky with the birth options available, but I'm like Hanbeth and want as many people that can administer pain relief if needed, and that can manage an emergency around me as possible! I currently have no plan other than get baby out quickly and as pain free as possible. As this is my first, perhaps I am a little quick to dismiss all the options, but if I plan for something, I will be so disappointed and get very stressed if things don't go that way.

Vixxfacee · 04/10/2016 13:08

I was only offered the test as I have polycycstic ovaries so I'm more at risk for it.
Is everyone thinking about epidural then?

wispaxmas · 04/10/2016 13:43

Hanbeth, lol to the snow worries, that hadn't even occurred to me! That said I'm used to lots of snow as I'm from Canada.

For people thinking of birth options, I can't recommend a home birth for a first birth. I've already doom-and-gloomed the February thread, but with my first I had a very straight forward pregnancy and birth, low risk in every way, but then I lost half my blood volume in the 8minutes following pushing out the placenta! Now that it has happened once I know I'm high risk for it, but I couldn't have known before. Something like 1 in 5 women will lose enough blood for them to call it a haemorrhage, and while only 6 in 1000 will have a severe one (over 1.5 litres) and even fewer a life threatening one, it's still a risk I had no idea about before having DD!

I have to have the gtt as well, as DD was so big, but I'm not looking forward to it Confused

hopingandwaiting · 04/10/2016 17:08

Hello to newbies.

Have my 25 week appointment next week. Had to choose my hospital at booking in, although there was only really the choice of hospital or home, and like others I want as many medical professionals available as possible.

Haven't done a formal birth plan yet as I want to do that after knowing all the options so figured we'd do it together after antenatal classes etc, but have discussed my 'ideals, if necessarys and absolutely nots' with OH. I really don't want an epidural - the thought of drugs injected into my spine and the lack of feeling from the waist down make me feel awful. Preferably no drugs, unless I'm seriously in pain and gas and air isn't doing the trick, but I need to research more into the drugs offered yet. My ideal would be a water birth with mild pain relief - a girl can dream, hey?!

Hope you are all doing well. I seem to have developed shin splints this week - who knew that pregnancy could make your shins hurt!!

MagpieCursedTea · 04/10/2016 20:19

Vixx it's hormonally driven but there are certain things that increase the risk like PCOS (I have it too). It's managed by controlling the amount of carbs you eat (and being aware of how many foods have hidden sugars, it's mad!) basically you need to find the balance of eating enough for your body and baby but not so much it spikes your sugars. It's a bit tricky to begin with and some people find their insulin resistance is too high for them to tolerate enough carbs which is when they need medication like metformin and insulin. Different trusts have different targets for blood sugar and different ways they want you to test, which can be confusing. I have to do 4 finger prick tests a day (fasting and then 1 hour after each meal). I was diagnosed 14 weeks ago and luckily all my readings are in range so far. I'm pretty sick of it though!
If you're interested, the gestational diabetes UK website has loads of great information.

Hanbeth the snow has occurred to me as well! I usually love snow and spend most of winter wishing for it, I might not be so keen this year!

I had the choice between a couple of hospitals. The one I've gone with is a brand new birthing centre which has only been open for a year but also takes high risk pregnancies. It looks lush and DH is allowed to stay over with me. I'd have loved a home birth but DS ended up in NICU so the risks are too high for me.

I've got my first growth scan tomorrow, feeling quite nervous! DH can't come as he has to work but taking my Mam with me instead and her ridiculous levels of excitement should be a good distraction!
