Hi Tp welcome to the thread! Is this your first? When are you due?

Yeah I'm thinking I'll go ahead and book the NCT course in the hope of making local "mum friends" at the same stage as me.

I'm wide awake, got home from work at 8.30 so my DH had picked up chip-shop chips for dinner and they aren't sitting well at all. I feel really uncomfortable and irritable. Urgh!

I wouldn't worry Copper I had one woman tell me yesterday I was really small and another today tell me I'm huge. I know I'm bigger after a large meal and generally at the end of each day I'm twice the size I am in the morning so not fussed in the slightest.

I've got a definite little bump now but I think if I wore a loose top I'd still pass as a bit chubby!

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 11/06/2016 08:41

I was really disappointed with my nct course last time because there were only 3 couples on it which made it awkward for making friends as one couple were clearly our kind of people and the others we had nothing in common with but we couldn't break off into small groups. I was talking to DH about doing a refresher but don't want the same to happen again... Confused

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 11/06/2016 08:43

Oh and I went too work yesterday after 5 wks off sick and people were amazing at the size of my bump. I'm flipping HUGE. I guess that's the price I pay for such a close age gap. No time for muscles to get anywhere near normal again!!

mrsdane · 11/06/2016 09:19

Thanks all for the guidance on movement sensations - am on high alert waiting to see what happens.

I have a definite shape of a bump, but can still get away with normal tops etc at the moment. I'm the same Fedup - much more pronounced in the evening.

I've booked NCT to make mum friends too - my sister went when she had her baby and said it was invaluable to have people at a similar stage nearby. Ours are the very end of September, beginning of October.

Off for a pedicure this morning. I LOVE having someone massage my feet, although they seem more susceptible to blisters at the moment - anyone else having the same thing? No swelling or change in foot size though.

needanewjob · 11/06/2016 10:41

I'm debating whether to do an nct course this time. Mainly because the nhs doesn't seem to offer antenatal groups any more and I'm worried about not knowing anyone with a similar age baby. Having said that most of my friends are part time workers and have all said they fully expect to still meet up every week for coffee and a cuddle so I won't be on my own too much (I have lovely friends). Tmi but I've been a bit constipated this week so had a lovely spicy takeaway curry last night - seems to have done the job this morning so it's my top tip for anyone else struggling Grin

FuzzyOwl · 11/06/2016 13:18

I'm doing an NCT course. I know of some lovely groups nearby but in my experiences the mums at them tend to already be in their small groups from NCT anyway. I really really hope lots of couples are at my course because I will be disappointed if it is only three since it is the meeting people aspect that is why I am doing it.

My bump is showing but I think I can still get away for being chubby unless wearing something quite snug. So obviously I am wearing snug things! At my 20 week scan this baby was quite a bit smaller than DD (20-30th centile rather than 50-90th) but I am sure I am bigger now than I was first time round. Again, probably because there hasn't been much time in between for my muscles to recover.

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend.

copper, i don't think i'm showing yet but must be wrong as yesterday a colleague i barely know rushed over shrieking "congratulations!" in full hearing of loads of people (the only person I've told at work yet is my boss) & when i asked how she knew she said "because you look it!" and because of the (loose, Cos) dress I was wearing - which I've owned for 2 years and is definitely not a maternity garment. oh well!

as for NCT, I'm not sure. Where I live the course is over 2 full days, rather than a weekly session so I'm not sure that really gives you time to make friends. plus it's £350 which seems extortionate

tp15 · 11/06/2016 14:09

Hi, yeah fedup, this is my first so all very exciting! I'm due on the 26th November. I'm 16 weeks today and really can't wait to feel the baby move! I bought a Doppler a couple of weeks ago, so I've been listening every day to the heart beat, which makes it all feel much more real as I've not had too many horrible symptoms other than tender breasts. Hmm
Two of my best friends are pregnant too and one of them is due two weeks before me, so it's been lovely sharing this with them and when I'm off it'll be great spending time with them, but they live 30-40 mins away by car, so with the nct class I'm hoping to meet mummies closer to me!

bobcat85 · 11/06/2016 15:10

Went to the out of hours GP today as the doctor I spoke to on the phone seemed to think I should have some liver tests done. However, the GP I had the appointment with wasn't that concerned and said that if the itching continues go to the doctors and get a blood test done. I'm still quite itchy but I'll see how it goes next week.

My bump seems to have got quite big over the last week or so. I have no idea how people manage to hide pregnancy until their 20 week scan, I'm only 17+4 and definitely couldn't hide it.

smellsofelderberries · 11/06/2016 23:11

Fingers crossed the itching disappears bobcat and you don't need the tests!

18 weeks today, which is only exciting because that means I've now graduated from the EPU to the actual antenatal clinic Grin so if I have any more pains or problems or whatever, I call them instead of early pregnancy. Guess my pregnancy feels more 'valid' now.

Fedupithink · 12/06/2016 05:51

Hope you get some answers soon Bob

I agree Smells I feel like im so close to the halfway point now, which is scary in itself! Have you had a date for your 20wk scan yet? Mine is the 30th so I'll be 20+4.

The info that comes out with that appointment is scary tho, so much that they check for potentially being an issue. I'm trying to be positive and I've started making a list of things we will need for baby so we can start buying after that all being well. Hoping to find out whether baby is a boy or a girl too, think that will help it feel more real as I've still not felt movement yet.?

needanewjob · 12/06/2016 08:53

My 20 week scan is this Friday (I'll be 20+6) Feeling a bit nervous as this is the buggy but trying to think positive that all will be well. Lots and lots of movement now, little man is a wriggler! We went to Next yesterday and I bought the cutest little bear crochet baskets for the nursery...

Biggy!!!

bobcat85 · 12/06/2016 10:32

Completely agree Fedup, the closer I get to 20 weeks the more scary and more real it feels.

We've started sorting out the nursery which is currently a computer room. Weird to think that there will be a baby in there this time next year.

coppergrey · 12/06/2016 11:04

Need I NEED those baskets! How adorable?!

I bought a few pieces of clothing from La Redoute yesterday... felt very weird as I wanted to hold off till after 20w before buying anything, but they've got an amazing sale on and there are lots of cardigans and warm things at 60% off. Some sold out too, so I thought I should get in there now before it all goes!

Their baby section is really worth a look, if anyone fancies. With the sale it's really decent prices and they have some gorgeous unisex stuff.

Bollyroo · 12/06/2016 12:37

So I just had a full blown panic attack and it was the scariest thing ever. We were stuck in a really big crowd and I kept thinking of Hillsborough. I'm sure it was the hormones and extra blood etc but was horrific. I'm back home now safely tucked up in bed and poppet is kicking like crazy so I know that's ok but I still feel so stressed. I couldn't breathe properly for an hour, and kept bursting out crying and the police were awful and wouldn't let us out. I'm still shaking and feel so pathetic.

I've only had a panic attack once before and that was over in a couple of minutes. This just wouldn't stop. Has anyone else had a panic attack and is it just a pregnancy thing?

needanewjob · 12/06/2016 13:04

Oh bolly that's horrible glad you are home now. copper I know! They are so cute!!! I'm not officially meant to be buying just yet but every now and again I can't resist something so adorable

Woody096 · 12/06/2016 17:14

Bolly that sounds awful! I hope you are feeling much better now you're home.

I am still torn whether to buy baby stuff or not. My mum has gone nuts and filled 'a bottom drawer" so far my baby will look like rice for the first few months as all the clothes my mum has bought are gender neutral.

Questions. For those of you who have experience of prams, anyones I should avoid like the plague? At the moment I am looking at the Urbo2, the Joolz Day or the bugaboo buffalo. I am lucky in that my parents are buying it so I don't have to worry about price. I really like the Urbo2 but worried about the fact it is more for city use and we like to walk the dog.

Secondly any experience of the Chicco sleep thing or is a moses basket sufficient?

Thanks xx

smellsofelderberries · 12/06/2016 17:44

Bolly, so glad you're okay. I have an anxiety disorder and in the same in massive crowds. On bad days I also won't sit in the first few carriages of the tube for some reason, and would rather take an extra 30 mins to get home if it means avoiding a central London tube station at peak hour. I think hormones do make it worse as it was quite cyclical before I got pregnant.

Woody, if you're looking at the buffalo I would also look at the donkey if you think you may need a double at some point in the future. I really don't see the point in the buffalo, it's actually just as wide at the wheel base (maybe -1cm?) as the donkey, without the benefit of converting to a double. Of all the buggies I've used (I'm a nanny so have used a lot!) I am personally going for a donkey as I love bugaboos. Having said that, the Joolz day is gorgeous. I don't think the seats are quite as big as a buffalo though.

Anyone else have a tender lower abdomen? I've noticed mine gets a bit sore if I've say, been holding my (admittedly heavy) handbag on my lap for a while. Woke up this morning with a big bump poking out half way between my belly button and pubic bone (a bit smaller than a tennis ball), and off to the right. Gently poked and stroked it for a second and watched it move towards the centre of my tummy and down a bit Grin I get so excited waking up in the mornings now because that seems the time of day where it's most obvious where he is!

onthemetro · 12/06/2016 18:39

Oh Bolly that sounds awful. I don't think being pregnant helps, I don't know about you but I feel so much hotter and I feel so much more aware of how much space I've got around me, so being in a big crowd doesn't sound fun at all. How are you feeling now? Flowers

Smells that sounds so freaky but also so awesome at the same time! I went out for a meal with my parents this afternoon and had (probably way too much) Pepsi - it's weird carrying on a conversation like normal when all you can feel is little flutters! Cold fizzy drinks certainly seem to make it more active!

JadeT2 · 12/06/2016 18:58

We put the deposit down on the Urbo2 last week as we prefer the more city-look of it rather than the bigger wheels of most other prams.

needanewjob · 12/06/2016 20:24

I think we are going to go for a Bugaboo Bee. I used to have a chameleon and loved it and the fact this one is even more compact appeals hugely!

Woody096 · 12/06/2016 20:41

Thanks Smells! How useful being a nanny & being able to test drive baby equipment!

JadeT2 the urbo2 is actually my favourite! Just need to weigh up the wheel situation!! So many decisions!!xx

FuzzyOwl · 12/06/2016 20:48

Please can I have some pram advice smells? I'm not really fussed about price because I want to get the right one but am looking for a tandem where the back seat doesn't have a really restricted view by the front one but still has plenty of storage space and is comfortable to use. Any suggestions?

Fedupithink · 12/06/2016 20:49

I've just stared looking into buggies and car seats - I had no idea it was such a minefield! I think I've decided on something then read something else and it's back to square one!

I love the bugaboos but want something compact for the car and it and about but with off-road wheels for daily dog walks. The choice!
