PS is anyone else going to be having two under two? I'm so nervous!

Ameilius · 28/05/2016 18:58

You can eat sushi! Here are the NHS guidelines. Most, if not all, uk restaurant sushi that you're likely to get will be made from frozen salmon. Tuna sushi wouldn't be recommended though sadly.. Runny eggs are not recommended because of the food poisoning risk not because they might harm the baby.. So they're not the worst thing to eat even if they're not recommended. Luckily they aren't 'banned' in Norway so I chose to eat them occasionally.

whats I think there are quite a few of us who will have two under two! I think both Fuzzy and Little (so bad at remembering full usernames!) are, and I'll have a just turned 18mth old when this baby is born! I'm slightly terrified but also glad to be getting the baby phase out the way in one go.. It'll be good not to be the only one drowning in nappies, and dealing with non-sleepers and the terrible twos all at once! How old is your DS/DD going to be?

needanewjob · 28/05/2016 19:03

whatsnew my Pinterest board is packed full of stuff!

Errrnerrr · 28/05/2016 21:05

Thanks Almond, sickness has gone thankfully but still so tired! Am waiting to bloom... It's not happening yet. I will have 2 under 3 whatsnew, am also worried about coping!

AlbusPercival · 28/05/2016 21:29

Need - do you have a link to the sheep blanket pattern?

FuzzyOwl · 28/05/2016 22:52

Welcome Errr.

Almond I thought runny eggs were OK as long as they were lion stamped. I hope so because I have been eating them! Confused

Yes whats my DD is almost one. I am naively focusing on how lovely it will be for them to grow up so close in age and not thinking about how I will cope!

I wonder how many pets have been given middle names in the last 24 hours. Grin

Thanks needs, Copper, and Albus, feeling much better today. Can't believe I didn't think of being a bit backed up! The nurse had the Doppler over my tummy and said 'now, this could take a few minutes so just be patient' and as soon as it touched my skin we could hear a good strong heartbeat and lots of kicking and she was like 'or not! Thanks baby!' Was nice (and now I'm even more temped to get a Doppler for myself!)

Metro, we went to my favourite sushi place last weekend and it was SO GOOD. Really hit the spot. It's a place called Sticks & Sushi and they do really good skewers with chicken teriyaki etc, (plus a few pregnancy-safe sushi bits) and amazing kimchi. So good.

I would love some prosciutto and proper soft blue cheese on crusty bread. Or not, because apparently my nausea is back and the thought of any food right now is not good!

smellsofelderberries · 28/05/2016 23:05

Fuzzy that sounds like a nice gap. If things go well with this one and I don't have any problems with ruined stomach muscles etc, DH and I will be trying for #2 when this one is 6 or 7 months. I figure it might take a few months to fall again and then if we have another miscarriage in between then we don't want to leave it too long as I want a small gap. Would be great if it happened quickly too though!

almondbutter · 28/05/2016 23:06

Fuzzy I have seen conflicting egg advice but will check that out because being sick so often I really miss simple comfort food like egg and soldiers. Midwife advised only hard boiled but you and others have mentioned the Lion Mark thing.

I have been eating sushi so long as I trust the place to be of sufficient quality that they're buying flash frozen fish.

YES to the blue cheese and crusty bread craving. Despite my sickness i really struggled when DH was having some Gorgonzola the other night. Could have eaten the whole pack. There's not much I want to eat, but when I do I want to eat a lot of it.

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 28/05/2016 23:42

Yes whats, as Amelius said, I'll have 2 under 2 all being well. My DD is 13.5 months so will be 19 months by my die date.
smells, we planned to try sooner but because I was still breastfeeding I didn't get my periods/ovulate more than once before I got pg! We only did it twice since she was born and one must have caught the day I ovulated! Just saying this as if you're planning to breastfeed fully then you might not be able to try so soon. Then again, I have a friend who is going to have 15 months between hers and she got pg without af ever turning up too!!
Turns out my DD is trying out the terrible twos at 13 months. Maybe it'll be over by the time this one arrives eh?!

Bollyroo · 29/05/2016 00:30

I've just been eating whatever I fancy; runny eggs, cured meats, sushi/sashimi, seafood/crustaceans, cake batter! etc. My view is that the guidelines are for people in areas without strict food regulations and high food quality standards or people who don't store their food appropriately. I think the guidelines are for the lowest common denominator and make depressing reading!

Blue cheese is different of course but soft cheese like Brie and Camembert is supposed to be okay if heated up.

needanewjob · 29/05/2016 08:14

Albus the pattern is from a book called 'Precious knit blanked for baby' you can get it from Amazon or Book People.

I keep rolling onto my back in the night then freaking out because you aren't meant to! Gah!

smellsofelderberries · 29/05/2016 08:36

Bolly, are you in Aus? Or is that someone else? If so, did your toxo screen come back as immune? The cured meats thing is because of toxoplasmosis, which is horrific. (Unless the meat is cooked, in which case eat on).

Need, don't worry about sleeping on your back, it's not until later on that becomes a problem. It's when baby is big enough to compress the artery. They won't be big enough to to do that yet Smile

FuzzyOwl · 29/05/2016 10:16

We started trying straight away smells but it took a while for my periods to return and then a few cycles after that. We would like a third but not sure we will go for such a small age gap. Then again, maybe it is better in a way and nicer for the children growing up. I guess it will all depend on how we feel once this one arrives.

My understanding almond is the risk with eggs is to you and not the baby. I figure I have eaten several eggs almost every week of most of my life and never fallen ill, so it is a gamble I am happy to take (as long as they are lion stamped, so I don't eat them when out at the moment). I figure that even in the worst case scenario, I will be ill but the baby will be absolutely fine.

I am not a seafood fan anyway so staying away isn't a problem and I eat little meat most of the time, but have hugely lost my appetite for it at the moment. Luckily, I also don't like soft cheese so the only thing I am really avoiding is alcohol but that is because the rest of the avoid list is either things I tend to not eat or I don't currently want to eat. If toast and cereal are removed from the safe lists, I think I will struggle to survive!

need I've been sleeping with a pillow kind of half under my back so I can lie almost on my back but not quite... I never used to want to sleep on my back but my pregnancy body loves it! But agree with smells that I'm pretty sure it's ok at the moment to lie flat. I seems to remember that it was much later on towards the end of the second trimester that I felt dizzy lying on my back so I think you feel it when it's time to stop.

Is no one else craving wine? Blush I don't even drink that much normally but my Facebook feed seems to be full of people enjoying summer with wine outside or on holiday, I feel like I'm missing out!

little my DS is embracing the terrible twos already too, he's got an iron will at the moment! Confused I'm hoping this might mean he'll be an angel by 1.5..

AlbusPercival · 29/05/2016 10:38

Thanks need. I read laying in your back is only an issue if you feel faint / duzzy

Bollyroo · 29/05/2016 11:09

Smells, yep that's right. Wow, I really wish I hadn't looked up toxoplasmosis! Interesting mix of Internet reading. Obviously looking for the answer that suits me (!) but they reckon that cured meat aged for more than 2 months is fine.

tapismagique · 29/05/2016 14:16

Hi there, I'd like to join in please. I am 17 weeks today ( & finally getting over the nausea!) - due 6 Nov. Was hesitant about joining due to an mmc in the summer but so far so good this time...

I totally missed the no-runny-yolks rule until a week ago. I've been eating at least 2 poached eggs per week as I love eggs Florentine. Oops!

Spottyladybird · 29/05/2016 14:55

Not craving wine but fruit cider! It's warm today and I'd love a cider in the garden!

I'm in the avoidance camp. A friend was hospitalised with her 3rd as she got listeria. There was a risk of her and baby being really poorly.

funkky · 29/05/2016 16:45

amelius. I am another one craving wine and alcohol in general which is really weird as I really don't drink much normally.
I am 20 weeks tomorrow and will call hospital as I stil haven't received a date for my 20 week scan yet.

FuzzyOwl · 29/05/2016 17:14

Hello and welcome tap.

I really hope you get an appointment soon funkky.

When we went away on holiday I really wanted a few glasses of wine but have been fine without it otherwise. I have some alcohol free wine to enjoy in the garden tomorrow if I fancy it though.

Btw. Mw said to me runny eggs was no longer something for preg women to avoid as the risk in the UK is so low it made no sense telling people to not eat it.

smellsofelderberries · 29/05/2016 18:05

Bolly, if you're immune then it's fine as it only a new infection during pregnancy that's the problem. Your midwife should be able to tell you as they test for toxo immunity as standard in Australia. The thing that worries me with toxo is that the symptoms for Mum are very mild so you might not realise you have contracted it, but it is very bad for baby. Sorry, don't want to say any of this to scare you but it's so easy to push all the advice aside as it sounds so over the top, when some of it really should be avoided. Really wish they'd make it clear why you need to avoid certain things and the actual risks.

smellsofelderberries · 29/05/2016 18:10

Wine tastes like vinegar to me now (Sad) but beer is amazing. I've had sips of DHs, and am trying out a few alcohol free ones. Becks Blue isn't bad, Cobra is disgusting and Brewdog's 0% beer (called Nannystate Grin) is the best I've found. Been enjoying the virgin mojito offerings when out somewhere nice.

MumOnACornishFarm · 29/05/2016 18:47

whatsnewsmellycat I will have two under two! DS1 is one at end of June and DC2 is due 2 Nov. So there'll be 16 months between them. I'm absolutely terrified! How far apart will yours be?
