Is it 16 weeks when midwife will first listen for heartbeat? That should be reassuring

We already have a cot carseat and monitor

Considering a perfect prep machine this time and keeping an eye out for a bargain price, figure with four DC I will need to make it a easy for myself as possible!

climbingcheesecake · 17/04/2016 19:28

fresh yes, I had my 16 week appointment last week, and heard the heartbeat! It took a while to find it, but luckily she warned me it would.

Carlsberg84 · 17/04/2016 20:14

Looking forward to my midwife appointment on Wed but I'll only be 14+6 do you think she'll still be able to find the heartbeats?

Afreshstartplease · 17/04/2016 20:18

I've heard some won't try until 16 weeks, but it can be found at 8 or 9 I think. Midwives don't like to do it incase they know they can find it Incase it worries you

Gigglebert · 17/04/2016 20:44

koala thanks for the reassurance... If the placenta moves its absolutely no big deal but if it doesn't it's a c-section, it also makes significant bleeding far more likely (and if you have a bleed most hospitals seem to insist you are admitted as the bleeds get more serious the more often they happen). Apparently only about 1% of women have previa by the end of pregnancy and it may well have moved before my 20 week scan, never mind needing an extra one at 28 weeks to check... I had googled to see if there was anything I could do to encourage it to move, or if I should be avoiding anything as I've had four small bleeds now but apparently I should just continue as normal and keep fingers crossed!

16 week appointment at the midwife tomorrow so will speak to her about it along with my constant light headedness (though surely unlikely to be anemic with iron in prenatal and eating lots of brocolli/spinach/steak)

Fresh asda had the perfect prep machine at £60 last week in their baby sale

Northernlight22 · 17/04/2016 20:54

I've got my 16 week appt with the consultanr this week - not a clue what to expect! Any ideas?

Aches and pains have eased off now after taking it easy today!

I've bought a few things, got a Moses basket in the Asda event this week - bargain!

Afreshstartplease · 17/04/2016 21:03

I really want the Noah pod Moses basket but I can't justify the price, but it's so pretty! My baby is likely to be atleast 9lb so probably won't be in a Moses that long

pod100 · 17/04/2016 22:08

Yeah I got a perfect prep in asda for £60 today too.

Carlsberg84 · 17/04/2016 22:30

Thanks Fresh suppose I'll have to wait and see if she tries or not

Afreshstartplease · 18/04/2016 06:27

I've just ordered perfect prep from Amazon. They have all three colours down to £60

BadlyWrittenPoem · 18/04/2016 10:21

My NHS trust has a policy of not trying to find the heartbeat at 16 weeks because it causes unnecessary worry when they can't find it.

positivity123 · 18/04/2016 10:46

I've just cracked and booked a reassurance scan for tomorrow. I know it will all be fine and is a waste of money but I am telling work this week and I just want to know for sure.
I also had a hot bath this weekend as I didn't realise you weren't supposed to. As soon as I felt too hot I got out but I feel so stupid although again I'm sure it will all be fine.
I'm usually a relaxed person but this pregnancy malarky is making me bonkers!!

BadlyWrittenPoem · 18/04/2016 11:02

Positivity a hot bath should be fine as unlike a hot tub or sauna it cools fairly quickly so is unlikely to increase your body temperature by that much for that long.

positivity123 · 18/04/2016 11:21

Thanks. That's what I keep telling myself and when I got hot I got out but my skin was a bit pink. I know I'm overreacting but I can't seem to help it
I've been getting a couple of growing pains as well.

Figgygal · 18/04/2016 13:01

well the growing pains are a good sign positivity I feel like a wally having booked a gender and growth scan within a couple weeks of 20 week scan but I remember how sick I felt on way to 20 week scan convinced something was wrong so hoping it will give some reassurance.

DS got into 1st choice school this morning we are so pleased!!!

pod100 · 18/04/2016 13:36

Ah positivity, I don't blame you for booking a scan. It's such a weird in-between stage isn't it? I bet your bump pops out and you get loads of symptoms again the day after you have it Smile I've had loads of stretching and growing pains over the weekend.

In terms of baths, I read that about hot baths a while ago and got really wound up and wouldn't have one. I've since had a few, pink skin and all. I think we have to take these things with a pinch of salt. I mean, what do people who don't have showers do? Do they just smell? Haha!

Northernlight22 · 18/04/2016 13:45

Hope the scan gives you some reassurance. I've got an NHS one in 2 weeks or else I'd be doing the same - it's a long wait between 12 and 20 weeks!

I haven't had a bath yet - I tend to have pretty hot baths so I don't think I'd get the satisfaction from a warm one. I tend to do showers anyway so not been missing it too much. I'm sure it will be fine and the baby will be jumping about :)

BadlyWrittenPoem · 18/04/2016 18:56

I don't have a shower but even when we did I only ever had baths in pregnancy as I would struggle to stand up for that long. I find baths tiring enough.

However in more exciting news I finally have a scan date! It's on Thursday so not long to wait now thankfully. Has anyone else not had a scan or am I the last one?

Figgygal · 18/04/2016 19:07

I feel movement It's kicking me!!! First time I've felt it this time round 16 weeks tomorrow

Northernlight22 · 18/04/2016 19:20

Aww lovely figgy!

Afreshstartplease · 18/04/2016 19:56

That's brilliant badly and figgy!

I am always in the bath, and I'm a sod for keeping the hot tap on, the heat helps my achey hips etc

I've done this in all pregnancies and none of my babies came out boiled Smile

Nickname1980 · 18/04/2016 20:02

Yes I've heard that only crazy-hot baths aren't good, because they can make your heart beat faster. But I take baths all the time - I just keep the window open and make sure it's not boiling hot. Don't worry!

Funny question - but anyone else's boobs totally massive already?! (And unhappy about it!) Any tips on what kind of bra will, erm, minimise?! Summer's coming and I don't want to be in a crazy structured bra!

BadlyWrittenPoem · 18/04/2016 22:03

My heart rate is always really high in pregnancy. It's about 90 now just lying in bed. One time when I was admitted to hospital it was 140! (Which was one of the reasons I was admitted.)

Afreshstartplease · 19/04/2016 07:00

13+6

I'm so full of a cold it's disgusting, it's making my sleep even worse because I can barely breath even though I'm propped up and covered in Vick's. Then I get up and throw up all the horrible phlemy stuff

Fucking grim

Please let this be my only cold this pregnancy
