Congrats fraggle! I had a private scan on the weekend and I'm having a girl too!

Anomaly scan in 3 more weeks!

SchnitzelvonKrummsverylowtum · 20/05/2016 17:58

Angry I had a low lying placenta with DS, and by the scan at 32 weeks it had moved up and I didn't need a c section.

Havetobecrazytolivehere · 20/05/2016 21:04

Hi, had scan today and all is well, measurements were almost the same as my first DD, was a long scan though as baby kept hiding.
Baby had legs crossed and stuck up in air so no way of seeing if boy/girl. Can't decide if I should book another scan or just accept the wait?
My placenta is anterior this time so not getting a lot of kicks yet, first two were low lying and they both moved by scan at 36 weeks.

Glad all is well Havetobe. I had an anterior placenta last time and hardly felt anything all pregnancy.

I have a private scan tomorrow to find out whether a girl or boy. I am quite excited, which is most unlike me when it comes to scans. Smile

Hi angry, I had a placenta that was partially blocking the exit, so had to have extra scans, but it had moved up and round by about 33 weeks I think x

Angrybird234 · 21/05/2016 10:15

Glad all is well fraggle and havetobe. Thanks for the reassurance schnitzel and clank, not über worried as it's 50/50 whether the placenta moves or not- just something else to take into consideration, I suppose.

Hi all

I have been panicking about holiday to Spain in a week because of the news on zika. I got in a right state yesterday over it.

Anyone else got a holiday booked who will be affected?

clank2 · 21/05/2016 16:07

Is anyone elses partner really blah about having the baby. I'm wanting to get things done round the house, get cot out of storage, buy nice things for the baby, make sure we are ready...but he just can't bring himself to do anything. Even the fact that the baby is really kicking now...I can feel on the outside, and I will grab his hand to feel it, but after 20 seconds he gets bored, moves hand away and missed it. Feeling so frustrated and down about it. I want someone to get excited with!

clank2 · 21/05/2016 16:09

And I have had diaorrhea since Thursday night now, can't eat anything without it going straight through me, and feel proper poorly. Should I see anyone or just treat as normal...

Afreshstartplease · 21/05/2016 16:09

Alot of men are like that clank, doesn't often become real to them until baby arrives
I use this to my advantage and make all the shopping decisions

TaffetaMuttonfudge · 21/05/2016 18:09

Hi Fresh - I have an holiday booked 3 weeks today to Spain, and I've been agonising about it too. Will be 22 weeks, and it's with my DH, DS (3), DF and DM to a friend's villa in the mountains. I have said I'll stay behind because I don't want to ruin everyone else's holiday but they have said they might cancel. Am seeing the doc next week for advice. What's your gut feeling? I'm totally undecided.

Afreshstartplease · 21/05/2016 18:32

Today my gut feeling is that I'm hopefully going before anything kicks off and the later into summer is more risky than next week

We are only going for a week I'll be back 6th June.

I'm gonna get a gp app and ask about using deet

I don't think I've ever been bitten before and I have been abroad plenty of times so hopefully they don't like me

I may change my mind tomorrow but my DC are so looking forward to the holiday and it seems such a waste if things are just being blown out of proportion by the media

Blueskygirl30 · 21/05/2016 19:48

Great news from those of you who have had scans!

Havetobecrazy do you think you'll book a gender scan just to find out the sex? I told my DH before my scan that if we couldn't find out at the anomaly scan then I'd be booking another scan asap to find out the sex, but that's because I'm super impatient!

I'm so hungry all the time at the moment! I eat a meal and a couple of hours later I'm hungry again!!

FuzzyOwl · 21/05/2016 20:10

Clank I was like that for weeks and weeks in the first trimester but it has settled down now. Maybe it is worth chatting to your midwife to make sure you aren't dehydrated or anything or end up with a uti.

Fresh and Taffeta what a dilemma! I think you're doing the right thing checking with a doctor or midwife. If you can't get an appointment just ring the midwife.

I was in Spain last week and I heard about Zika on my last night. I couldn't wait to get home! Where abouts are you staying? I was in the mountains in southern Spain, 1 hour north of Malaga. They'd had a spate of bad weather but the temperature rocketed this last week. I got bitten to death in the nights but we didn't have any insect repellent with us. My husband didn't get bitten at all!

I hope you're OK and get a proper answer from the doc / MW.

IrisPurple1 · 21/05/2016 20:57

Bluesky and Havetobecrazy I have also said I'm booking a private scan to find out the gender if we aren't able to tell at our NHS scan! We're holding off buying stuff and thinking of names until we know. And I'm fed up of referring to our baby as 'It'...

clank2 · 21/05/2016 21:48

fuzzyowl I think its more like a bug or food poisoning as I am on the toilet every half hour. I am literally bleeding from going to the toilet so much :(

Blueskygirl30 · 21/05/2016 22:21

Oh Clank, that doesn't sound fun at all. If you're worried I'd give your midwife a call. She'll at least give you advice on how to make sure you're not dehydrated and how to still get nutrients to your baby. I hope you feel better soon!

Nickname1980 · 21/05/2016 23:06

Fresh, I had to cancel my holiday because Zika is officially there, I found out last week (much further away than Spain, though) and I'm hoping to get my money back off the insurance. But the advice from the CDC was pregnant women don't go. So if it hits Spain, the CDC will issue advice. They aren't taking any chances after getting the Ebola thing so badly wrong, my nurse told me, so if you follow their guidance then you should be fine.

I actually could still go - the advice is don't but no one would stop me - but I couldn't stand the idea of even a tiny risk!

clank, I'm sorry your partner isn't being more enthusiastic. As others have said, maybe it doesn't feel real to him yet? Hmm don't know what to suggest about your tummy problems. Might be worth chatting to your midwife over the phone just to put your mind at ease?

TaffetaMuttonfudge · 21/05/2016 23:12

Iris, I'm going to be in the same area you went to - a place called Alcaucin. I am totally hormonal about it all today. Sad

FuzzyOwl · 21/05/2016 23:31

Clank I had a d&v bug early on and then didn't get rid of the diarrheoa for about six weeks. I am not sure whether the bug completely cleared and the diarrheoa was pregnancy related or whether it upset my stomach so much that it lingered for ages. Definitely work checking with your midwife to be on the safe side and I hope it clears up for you. Have you tried sudocrem to help ease where you are bleeding?

Does anyone know the recommended % of deet safe to use in pregnancy?

Nickname1980 · 22/05/2016 08:56

You're allowed to use 100%, fresh, but it's a bit smelly and sticky so 50% should do. You can also get wrist bands and plug-ins. The wrist bands are good!

Afreshstartplease · 22/05/2016 09:00

Wow I hadn't even seen 100%! Highest I'd seen was 50% and there's a lot of conflicting advice online some saying only use 10%

I did notice though that jungle formula 50% doesn't have a don't use if your pregnant warning on the bottle which it would have to if it was dangerous right?

Afreshstartplease · 22/05/2016 09:00

I did see the wrist bands on Amazon too, is it too much to buy enough I can wear one on each wrist and ankle lol?
