We didn't find out with DS, and one of my favourite memories of his birth was telling DH he had a son and seeing the look on his face.

DH wants to find out this time, and as I had my own way with DS I think we probably will find out. Also we can get rid of all of the boys clothes we have if its a girl.

FuzzyOwl · 04/05/2016 18:39

How are you today Kariana?

I am having a scan to find out the sex.

Hi everyone, haven't posted in ages. not much news from me, and haven't had a chance to read through but had a quick question about bras - can anyone recommend a good one? I am struggling with the band being really uncomfortable - I have gone up a band size and I can't go bigger without it being too loose.
Does anyone know any good brands that let you breathe, but keep you in place? my boobs are big so I can't get away without wearing one.
will catch up on everyones news now

BadlyWrittenPoem · 04/05/2016 19:52

Tomkat, did she give you some iron after all that ranting? I should imagine the low iron is the cause of your shortness of breath! (Which I'm sure you realise even if that other MW thought it was lack of space at eight weeks!)

BadlyWrittenPoem · 04/05/2016 19:58

I don't think there'd be much practical benefit for us finding out the gender as we only have three boxes of outgrown clothes from the youngest and most of the first box is gender neutral. Plus I probably wouldn't get rid anyway in case they were wrong or we had another in a few years time. I'm going to be that crazy old lady with a loft full of vintage baby clothes in fifty years time!

I still can't decide whether I want to know and DH will just go along with whatever I want.

Tomkat79 · 04/05/2016 21:14

Yes badly I realised that as I left the surgery! It's easing up a bit now but my hair is still falling out big time! She said did I want iron and I joked saying 'who wants iron!' and when i checked my notes she had written refused iron Confused
Honestly! I will break the rules tomorrow and check my results at work to see exactly what the score is and then make a decision re: the ferrocious sulphate!!

BadlyWrittenPoem · 04/05/2016 21:19

I've had loads of things written down as being refused when I haven't. One time the MW said she would check my (postnatal) blood loss later and I kept wondering when she would. Then after I was discharged it said in my postnatal notes that I'd declined it.

BadlyWrittenPoem · 04/05/2016 21:21

I can't take iron supplements in pregnancy (which is partly how I found out about this pregnancy as I can take them no problem usually) so I eat as iron rich a diet as I can (which is pretty poor early on due to sickness but gets better) and take v

Afreshstartplease · 04/05/2016 21:22

Check your blood loss? By looking at it?

I've never had that!

BadlyWrittenPoem · 04/05/2016 21:24

sorry that posted before I'd finished.

...and take vitamin c with meals. The NICE CKS doesn't advocate prescribed vitamin c because it "can cause epigastric pain" but I've never had any problems and it helps iron absorption a little so for me it's worthwhile when I can't take straight iron supplements.

BadlyWrittenPoem · 04/05/2016 21:35

Rather complicated backstory which wouldn't be appropriate to give on this thread but I was attending hospital after having given birth unattended (other than DH) at home so they were checking various things and making figures up for things they had no information on.

BigPigLittlePig · 04/05/2016 22:27

Iron low here and the mw pleaded almost to take some supplements. Am just going to be religious about my multivitamin and see what happens, as can't face dodgy tum and black poo.

Had 16w appt today and heard a lovely heart beat, although a very wriggly baby meant it kept sneaking out the way. They were really lovely and v helpful, and booked extra appt for me before we move so there's no panic about missing various bits and bobs.

AngharadTheSplendid · 04/05/2016 23:16

16 week appointment tomorrow here, keen to hear heartbeat again as it feels like an age since 12 weeks. Then gender scan on Saturday. So excited to find out if it's pink or blue!

FuzzyOwl · 04/05/2016 23:23

climbing have your tried Seraphine?

Hope everyone is doing ok.

Good luck with your appointment and scan Angharad

Did you go to a&e Karina? How did you get on. Hope everything is okay

Northernlight22 · 05/05/2016 13:30

All relatively quiet here - had a scan on Tuesday at 16+6 but baby was being particularly un- cooperative! Got my date for my 20 week scan now though so that's exciting!

Hormones starting to make me an emotional mess or an angry crazy woman now which isn't fun though. Starting to get bigger too - need to invest in some new knickers I think haha

Wheels1986 · 05/05/2016 16:00

I can't find my original post introducing myself, so here goes... :)

15+1 today with Baby #2, due October 26th. Already have a son, no preference on gender this time around but we won't be finding out at our 20 weeks scan - was a lush surprise last time when DS was born and DH told me what we had :)

I've had 3 scans already - 2 NHS and 1 private - will be waiting for our next one now (5 weeks today!), so in the meantime I'm using my doppler to have a little listen to the heartbeat just before bed for a bit of reassurance (it's really addictive!!).

Looking forward to getting to know you all a bit better and eventually see all your little bundles of joy come October/November! X

climbingcheesecake · 05/05/2016 16:39

thanks for the suggestion Fuzzy just had a look online. Looks like they have some nice stuff on there. I hope I can find something comfortable!
is anyone else finding their bellies growing huge in the evening? a few nights its felt so big like it's going to pop, but then luckily goes down again.
Also, with movement, is it normal to feel loads of movement one day, and then not so much the following day?

climbingcheesecake · 05/05/2016 16:39

Hi wheels!

IrisPurple1 · 05/05/2016 19:53

Hello!

16+5 today.
My belly grows throughout the day too, I put it down to bloating. I get indigestion if I eat too much or too quickly. Food still tastes weird or not at all. Altho M&S macaroni cheese was a hit.
It's good to wake up still big, as that is all baby!

Heard a strong heartbeat on Tuesday, but no movement yet.

I'm suffering with mood swings too - not sure if hormonal or just the tsunami that's hit my brain since allowing myself to start planning for baby now the 12w scan's done with. Been feeling very stressed and tearful this last week or so, even more of a control freak than usual - when plans go wrong I'm either irate (during the day) or holding back tears (evenings). I really need our holiday in Spain next week!

Kariana · 05/05/2016 20:28

Thank you everyone who asked how I was doing, it's really lovely to have such support :) I did go to A&E in the end as you were right, there was no point worrying myself sick. I went last night and we were there till gone midnight which is why I'm only updating today! Everything was fine as far as they could tell, though they didn't do a scan. The doctor listened to the baby's heartbeat though, which was lovely as it was the first time I'd heard it. She also listened to the placenta which I didn't even realise was something they did.

My dip test showed no urine infection and bloods were fine, just slightly low on a couple of minerals, probably because I drink so much water. Overall I'm feeling much more relaxed and reassured now as my main worry was that there would be no heartbeat. We're also planning to go for a private gender scan next week so I know it's not too long till I get that extra reassurance as well.

My new, much more amusing problem is that I appear to be highly allergic to the washing powder they use on the sheets at the hospital. Luckily there's a high chance we will have moved to a different area before the birth so hopefully they'll use a different powder there!

Hope everyone is doing okay today, aside from the hormones! Climbingcheesecake my belly does that too, very painful when it feels like it's about to burst at the seams. Also I was fretting about no movement for four days then in A&E after hearing the heartbeat I was lying down waiting for the blood results and suddenly felt a series of twitches right where the baby was positioned - couldn't believe the timing!

SophieVictoria1213 · 05/05/2016 20:59

Iris macaroni cheese is my life!!!

Nice to hear everything went well at hosp Kariana, if in doubt always best to get checked. Good luck with gender scan.

I'm also moving house soon, feeling really apprehensive about it as don't want to be doing all the lifting/ stretching but I guess it's got to be done. DP works 6 days a week so it'll mainly be me doing all packing etc... Not looking forward to it one bitEnvy

FuzzyOwl · 05/05/2016 22:24

Relieving news Kariana and glad to hear you have a scan lined up for next week. Could you take your own bed sheets into hospital if it comes down to it?

I find I don't have much of a bump in the morning but it is really noticeable in the evening.
