ah! So jealous fresh SadSad**
What are you thinking you're having? Grin

Afreshstartplease · 02/05/2016 15:32

I don't know I have two theories and they disagree with each other lol

BadlyWrittenPoem · 02/05/2016 15:33

No I didn't take it that way. But I do think that unless you know for sure it is wise not to assume braxton Hicks if you are in pain. I once nearly passed out in a public place due to anaemia and low blood pressure and was unable to ask for help because I couldn't see or move. People noticed me in distress but did nothing because they assumed I was having braxton Hicks!

FuzzyOwl · 02/05/2016 15:54

My 20 week scan is a fortnight early naomi but I am still having a scan at 16 weeks to find out the sex. I reckon you are having a girl though, but so far I seem to be guessing that for everyone including me.

I have heard from a few people that BH can hurt but I always think the first time anything usual happens it is worth getting it checked out. Far better to be safe and know the baby is ok.

Family odds say I'm more likely to have a boy I would like a girl to even out the numbers but if it's happy and healthy that's good enough for me!

Kariana · 02/05/2016 16:27

Thank you everyone for your advice and reassurance. I'm trying not to worry about the lack of movements now from what others have said. The cramps have come and gone over the course of today though nowhere near as painful as in the night and I am pretty convinced that these are just stretching pains, even if last night's weren't. I'm going to see how things go tonight before calling if I need to tomorrow. I've already had one emergency scan because of cramps (suddenly came on during my booking appointment so I was already at the hospital) so I don't want to make too much fuss.

Afreshstartplease · 02/05/2016 16:29

Kariana if it's your first pregnancy your body is all stretching for the first time in ways it never has, hopefully this is what your feeling

BigPigLittlePig · 02/05/2016 16:33

I have always found BH very uncomfortable, in a completely different way to labour pains. It's somehow difficult to walk with BH, like a twisting squeezy knot inside your pelvis. Urgh.

Beth2511 · 03/05/2016 09:19

Found out at 16+3 we are having a very proud of himself boy!!!

Afreshstartplease · 03/05/2016 09:43

That's lovely Beth! Any names?

SophieVictoria1213 · 03/05/2016 10:19

Great news Beth!
Love baby boys, they seem to stay babies for longer I think.

I'm not finding out sex, is anybody else doing the same? Most people are quite surprised when I tell them I don't want to know. Perhaps I'm just old-fashioned!

Afreshstartplease · 03/05/2016 12:36

16 week app this afternoon fingers crossed she listens for heartbeat!

Bit worried she won't as I'm 15+6, and will have 3 year old in tow

DisneyDiva87 · 03/05/2016 14:08

Very true Badly I didn't get the painful ones until I was full term (or near it) so I wasn't concerned because I figured it was a prelabour thing but that is a completely different situation to having them this early on! Best to get checked about anything that is unusual or worries you

Make a fuss Karina your baby depends on you to make a fuss for them, I'm a real advocate for getting in touch with a MW about any concerns (especially reduced movements later on in pg, you'll all hear me harp on about it in a few weeks), all you have to do is phone so it's not a huge hassle for them but it is worth everything to you to have your mind put to rest. Don't forget that when you are sitting worrying it affects your baby too. Don't worry about not feeling movements yet it is still really really early for that, I don't feel movements yet either (I'm 15+4).

Starting to feel like a preacher here, must be the effects of that cheeky little coffee I had after lunch.

Afreshstartplease · 03/05/2016 15:34

Heartbeat heard! Smile

Beth2511 · 03/05/2016 16:41

Have no idea. Dp is set on maximus! Boys are so much harder to name. Had a stack of girl names!

Will be lovely to have managed one of each.

Afreshstartplease · 03/05/2016 16:48

I agree boys are harder to name!

I have my boy name chosen already but I'm keeping it under my hat because I'm crossing my fingers it won't get more popular !

Kariana · 03/05/2016 18:22

I hope you don't mind but I just wanted some opinions rolling on from my last post about the pain (thank you all for your responses). I rang the unit this morning and was told to go to A&E as "you probably won't get a doctors appointment for ages". I was pretty sure I could get an emergency doctors appointment today so checked with the surgery and they said they could. I ended up going for an appointment instead of A&E as I felt A&E is for heart attacks/broken legs etc and didn't want to add to the waiting times.

Dr tested and didn't find a urine infection, however she said I seem unusually tender around/on my uterus. What has upset me is that she could give me no reassurance that baby is ok. She had no way of even listening to the heartbeat and I'm absolutely devastated, which may seem an overreaction but I have been hugely worried about it all day. It seems mad that a drs surgery has no equipment for something so simple, no wonder hospitals are full to bursting! The Dr rang the Antenatal unit to see if they would see me but was told they don't see anyone under 20 weeks and that I'd have to go to A&E. I'm now stuck with worry about the tenderness plus I have no idea if baby is ok in there and I'm worried that even if I go to A&E I won't get and assurance anyway. Is it just me? Is this the norm everywhere? It seems an insane use of A&E resources - I can't be the only overly panicked first time mum out there!

Afreshstartplease · 03/05/2016 18:55

Honestly I'd go to a and e

You worrying is no good for baby

Tomkat79 · 03/05/2016 19:27

kariana are you 16 weeks today but scan date or your LMP dates? Our epau will see patients between 6-16w so you may be eligible for a reassurance scan there. Alternatively your hospital Gynae ward should take over ur care and make sure all is well. Please don't worry about making a nuisance of yourself! Xx

Kariana · 03/05/2016 19:38

Both Tomkat, my scan and LMP dates match! No one seems to want to take responsibility this stage - the message was just 'we don't see women till 20 weeks' and no idea what the epau will see me up to as I can't contact them.

I can only imagine how horrified I'd be if I sat in A&E for hours and then ended up with them not scanning or at least listening for a heartbeat! It is looking increasingly like the only option but just seem bizarre to me.

FuzzyOwl · 03/05/2016 19:46

I would go to A&E Kariana because they can refer you for a scan and you are just going to work at home otherwise. I do know that some trusts don't listen for a heartbeat at 16 weeks because finding it isn't guaranteed and it can cause additional worry. A&E is for emergencies and babies (including pregnant women) are always taken seriously.

Sophie we aren't finding out the sex either, glad I'm not the only one, was starting to feel a bit of a loner! didn't find out with baby #1 and loved my husband making the announcement once she was out, one of my favourite memories of him :)

BigPigLittlePig · 03/05/2016 23:44

Kariana as much as we all love to hear the heartbeat, without a scan it is of no reassurance at all, so even if your gp could have listened, she still couldn't have reassured you. We see lots of ladies in A&E with early/mid pregnancy worries, and they usually get a scan by the on call gynae team. That's what they're there for. Hope you manage to get something sorted.

Tomkat79 · 04/05/2016 12:16

Beginning to wonder if I'll ever see a decent mw! Took forever to check my 8 weeks blood, ranted on about low ferritin levels and that I may be a thalassemia carrier and was I def white British!?!? Ffs. My last one at 8 weeks thought I was short of breath because everything was pushing my lungs up!!!

Figgygal · 04/05/2016 13:03

I think it is just a personal preference on finding out gender. For us we are finding out gender so we can be practical and chuck out 3 years worth of boys clothes if they aren't needed. Beth agreed boys names are harder I have a list as long as my arm for a girl and 3 for boys 2 of which DH has vetoed already.

How are things today Kariana?
