December 2016... Babies

1002 replies

Penguinepenguins · 21/03/2016 18:30

Doesn't seem to be a thread yet for babies due in December, possibly because I'm crazy and POAS really really early but a line is a line and today was my "double check" second day and a BFP it was again!

I sadly had a miscarriage in November found the July babies thread a huge help in my early days of pregnancy and the ladies were very supportive after the MC - I've just returned to mumsnet under a new name as I was finding it a bit painful at one point and went a bit cold turkey from it all!

So here is a bit about me

I'm 38
This will be baby number one for me
EDD 3rd December (know when I ovulated been using the monitor - the app ok many apps I've consulted this morning confirm this as the date

Very nervous after last time but want to enjoy every minute I can, I loved being pregnant before and want to do all the same things as before just keeping everything crossed for a sticky one.

Who is ready to join me Smile

Rosa have you looked at the Phil & Ted's? Everyone I know who has had it thinks it's absolutely brilliant!

Rosa89 · 17/04/2016 11:25

Hadn't heard of them Bertie, will check them out thanks!

weechops · 17/04/2016 12:19

bertie if it's a snuggly pram you're looking for I can't recommend the Stokke Crusi enough! My last baby was a December baby too and the Stokke carrycot is amazing. The seat part is lovely and deep too when they go into that about 6 months. And the cosy toes is gorgeously snug. Wish I had got the Stokke with my others!

I already seem to have an aversion to coffee again. Usually only have one in the morning and one mid afternoon, but my stomach turned this morning when I opened the packet. Yuk!

rosa the baby jogger double is a side by side and you can get a carrycot which fits on when baby is new. It's not too bulky I don't think

Nuttypops · 17/04/2016 13:13

Another one here recommending a co-sleeper. We had a beautiful mini cot for DD, she slept in it for a most from 8-9 months inbetween the co- sleeper and moving to a cot bed. We tried it from day 1 but it was a waste of time, she just wouldn't sleep in it initially. We then borrowed a friend's co- sleeper and it was the best thing imaginable.

We also found a travel system really useful for a winter baby, last thing I wanted to do was wake DD and bring her out into the cold to transfer her from the sling to the pram.

Rosa, DD will be 2 about 3 weeks before this one is due. I am debating whether we can get away with a sling for baby and the pram for DD or a buggy board but I think with it being winter, we are likely to want a double for 6 months or so. I am taken with the baby jogger double mentioned earlier. A friend had one and it was fairly compact for a double. I think we will just look at a second hand double for the short period I imagine we will use it for, and then go back to the single pram we have for DD as both DH and I love that. But I am not sure there is a buggy board which fits it, it is a silver cross pioneer, so it may be a hassle.

BertieBotts · 17/04/2016 13:31

We were looking at the Stokkes. They are lovely but the price!! Shock

BertieBotts · 17/04/2016 13:32

Nutty, that is an excellent point about winter.

DartmoorDoughnut · 17/04/2016 13:34

Bertie we have the Phil & Teds Dot, think it's the V2, will be getting a second seat, the baby can face you which is a must for me for the first few months BUT I'm hoping a swift recovery will mean I can use the sling/wrap/carrier again asap! Still use my Ergo360 with DS most days for dog walks but the pushchair is great to walk to the shops with.

Thisisbonkers · 17/04/2016 17:33

I've had a bit of spotting today Sad I don't know what it means or what to do.

BertieBotts · 17/04/2016 17:38

I think spotting is not to worry about bonkers, if it gets heavier then it's not a good sign.

ChoChang · 17/04/2016 17:58

bonkers I had brown spotting for the first 3 weeks, and called my ivf clinic when it changed to red and got a bit worse for a couple of days. They weren't particularly concerned and just said to monitor it (it then cleared up altogether a couple of days later). If it gets heavier then as Bertie said that's when it's not good, but if you're concerned you could call your EPU? I know it's really scary when it happens, hope it stops soon x

SouthDownsSunshine · 17/04/2016 18:02

Spotting is surprising normal thisis, but call your gp or early pregnancy unit tomorrow.

Thisisbonkers · 17/04/2016 18:09

Thank you. It's all so alien and new. And I know nothing Blush

Do I still call them if it stops?

kippersandcurtains · 17/04/2016 18:16

Quick hello from me to mark my place. Felt like crap all w/end but sun has shone and made me feel less miserable, which is a blessing. Completely over this morning (all fecking day) sickness. Plus my summery trousers and shorts don't fit due to excessive bloating, hence my holiday wardrobe is severely lacking in bottom halves.

Whinge over. Hello newbies, hope everyone is feeling ok. Sorry to hear of spotting bonkers, that's horrid, but I have googled on MN before now and it seems to be a very common thing. I have everything crossed that it doesn't get worse and that you can get some reassurance from EPU or GP soon.

I had two (!) double buggies when mine were small (16 months between so newborn and young toddler). We bought a Bugaboo Donkey for the price of a small car, but I did love it very much and used as a single when bigger boy grew out of it. Also we had a second hand Out & About Nipper double, which was also side by side but waaaaay lighter and easier to lug about and stick in the boot.

No spending for us this time - unless it is via a sale - so will look out for a lightweight single buggy to replace our Donkey once we can sell it. Everything else will be recycled from the boys (cot, clothes etc etc). Given I buy a lot from NCT sales this will mean newest baby will be a hand-me-down aficionado poor kid!

Rosa89 · 17/04/2016 20:35

Thanks for the rec's ladies. I also contemplated wearing baby in the sling and continuing to use my bugaboo bee but as this baby will be here in winter, I think I'd feel better if both were wrapped up as warm as possible.

thisisbonkers sorry to hear about your spotting. I had spotting for about 4 weeks in my first pregnancy, it stopped about 8 weeks and everything I read and midwives said it was normal and baby just burrowing in. If you have an epu at your hospital you can always go in, I did and they were really lovely and I got to see baby at about 8 weeks at that point.

LittleBear01 · 17/04/2016 21:41

Hi all, I haven't posted for a little while but wanted to let you all know that I had an early scan today (6+4) and all is well - cute little broadbean-shaped baby with a heartbeat Smile. I've also been feeling a bit rough this week, kind of like a mild hangover, but I love it! Makes it all seem real. We couldn't resist buying something for our little one after the scan, so are now the proud owners of a little fluffy sleep suit. It's going to take a lot of willpower to not buy lots of stuff!

Helbelle75 · 17/04/2016 21:48

That's wonderful littlebear how very special

BertieBotts · 17/04/2016 22:30

Ah :) Hurray for your bean, LittleBear. :) We are calling ours a sesame seed at the moment.

I remember buying one pack of vests after my first scan with DS and he did wear them a lot.

DH caved and told his entire family today Shock It's good but I'm anxious that MIL might go over the top and buy an entire car boot sale's worth of stuff.

I am due to speak to my mum on Tuesday so will tell her then.

Roxy2307 · 18/04/2016 07:03

Hi all,
Just marking my place - I haven't read the whole thread yet (apologies for not being fully up to date with everyone's situation).
I think I am 4+4 weeks so very early days but am feeling as positive as we can be Smile we are guessing the EDD will be about 22/12!!!
I'm 29 and we have been TTC since Oct 15. My LP is very short so been using Progesterone which I'm planning to continue with until 12 weeks.
Not many symptoms other than sore boobs, mild nausea and feeling tired.
Looking forward to following you all and sharing the many highs Smile
Hope you all have a great start to the week!
Roxy x

BertieBotts · 18/04/2016 07:04

Welcome Roxy! :) Just jump in, no need to read it all.

becciandbump · 18/04/2016 07:21

Ive had a really anxious weekend. We conceived in the Maldives and ive been panicking over the Zika virus. The British embassy advised there is no active virus in the Maldives which is why we tried but I'm since panicking when I found out there was one case back in 2015. I'm not sure how to stop my excessive worrying. DH is very calm and not worried at all I suppose I should try and relax its not like we can do anything about it.

SylvanusWindrunner · 18/04/2016 07:30

Can I join? I'm not sure what my official due date will be because it's a long way till the dating scan but my due date according to when I conceived will be the 29th of December. I found out yesterday when I was 3 weeks 3 days so it's all ridiculously early. I'm quite sure of my dates because there's only one day it could have happened. It's all a bit surreal, it feels like I've waited forever and there's definitely going to be a lot more waiting thanks to finding out so early. I don't feel any different, even having some mild cramping just like I normally do before a period only it feels a bit different somehow. I've already told some people but everyone's been reminded that it's very very early and for now we're just keeping our fingers crossed that it sticks. I just can't wait till my 6 week scan so I can relax a little bit.

When do the symptoms kick in? Might I get a few more weeks of feeling normal before tiredness /sickness kicks in?

Congrats to everyone else, can't wait till we've all made it through to the end and are taking bets on who will get a Christmas Day baby!

BertieBotts · 18/04/2016 07:33

Wow Sylvanus, that is early! Congrats :)

Becci I'm sure it will be okay, 2015 is a decent amount of time ago. Plus I think that you and/or DH would possibly have had flu-like symptoms when you got back?

It is horrible with all this Zika stuff in the news but it seems to be mostly South American and African countries which are affected, not Europe or Asia.

becciandbump · 18/04/2016 07:47

I did have flu like symptoms which is why I'm worried o went to my gp but he said U usually get a rash and told me I just had a sore throat still it's worrying me tho x

becciandbump · 18/04/2016 07:48

Thanks Bertie I do realise 2015 is a while back the embassy are discounting it x

ppaaWWss · 18/04/2016 07:57

Hi everyone, and congrats!

Just got my first positive after trying for 4 months, and I think the due date is 19th December.

Long shot - but has anyone here had experience with pregnancy as an expat? We tend to relocate roughly every 5 months for my husband's work. We're in Eastern Europe at the moment but will be moving again in a few months and no idea where to yet! Does anyone know what I should do about ante-natal care? I would love the reassurance of having my UK doctor involved for some consistency, but I don't know if they can do that if I'm not there to go and see them...

Paws x
