Speak no my first labour sounds identical! 30 hours then EMCS! Are you having ELCS this time? I meet consultant week after 20 week scan so will know then!

Re mat leave. It's very individual, try do what feels right for you. Last time I went to 38 weeks and felt fine could have gone longer to be honest. I was bored after week one but was winter snd just before Xmas so everywhere cold and busy! I did have SPD but saw a physio the GP referred me to and managed it with exercise and That was with over two hours of driving a day to work. I'm very very lucky in that my pregnancies are pretty good and I really enjoy my desk based job. I can also work from home and currently only do three days as have DD soThis time I'm hoping to go the same timeframe and use annual leave for two weeks and then start mat leave hopefully when I have my ELCS. I'm trying not to use holiday too so I can get paid for anything I don't use. I think if you are on your feet, do shift work, have stressful job, don't feel great etc then you need to go off earlier. I personally like the time on the other side but it's very individual.

Sorry that's an essay but wanted to give you the bigger picture!

Re weight gain I'm up three pounds but expect it to pile on now despite trying to be good. Love a mini egg!!!

Think I'm last one due as im as only 19+4!

SpeakNoWords · 08/03/2016 19:46

At the moment, Anna, I'm working on the assumption that I'll try for a VBAC. So much can change between now and due date though, so I'm open minded. I do know that they won't want me to go much overdue this time, and if they induce they'd not give me as much time for it as last time. Trying not to feel under pressure to perform!

Thom80 · 08/03/2016 19:58

AnnaT - that is reassuring. I was thinking around 38 weeks but this is my first time so wasn't sure it would be realistic. I want to try and spend as much time off after the birth. I definitely have two weeks leave saved so can use that to take me to 40.
Also for second time mum's, do use more vests with legs at the start or without? I am thinking that for the first few months the baby will be in babygros. I haven't bought anythibg yet but want to be ready for when I do!!

AnnaT45 · 08/03/2016 19:58

Ah speak no I was induced too! I'm not sure I'll be allowed or want to try VBAC but will see what consultant says. Bless you, I know what you mean about feeling the pressure! In sure you'll be fine this time round though

SpeakNoWords · 08/03/2016 20:08

I remember when I was in the HDU after the EMCS, the consultant stopped in to see how I was. I remember her saying, not to worry, that there was no reason why I couldn't have a VBAC next time. All I could think of was "next time! Are you mad?" - couldn't have contemplated having another one, a day after having DS1!

AnnaT45 · 08/03/2016 20:13

Ha ha! That's brilliant. Just what was top of your mind! That's good news though for you. My dr said to me straight after the surgery 'I need to warn you you've got a bigger scar than normal as had to get in their fast' oh lovely thanks for making me feeling gorgeous at this time. Also she could have got away with not telling me. I had nothing to compare it to! Grin

Lulabells · 08/03/2016 20:30

Hi all!

Hope everyone is doing well. I haven't posted for ages but still trying to keep up! Had our 20 week scan today and found out we are having a BOY! We already have a DD who has just turned three. I was so convinced this one was going to be a girl too that it has really thrown me! It's not that I am disappointed I am just a girly person and have no experience of boys really! It all feel so life changing as I can't picture me with a boy at all. It was also a huge shock to both our families. I know it will all come naturally when he is here but did anyone else feel the same panick or shock when they found out???

SpeakNoWords · 08/03/2016 20:30

Oh no! That's not the best moment to tell you that. They could have discussed it with you just before you were discharged or something, to give you some time to get your head around the whole experience.

FifiRebel · 08/03/2016 20:40

Lulabells - I burst into tears once I was out of the scan when I found out I was having a boy, you're not alone. I really had it in my head that I was having a girl so it was a shock. I got over it much quicker than I thought, I was fine in a day or two.

Loopy we have exactly the same due date! Smile

Lulabells · 08/03/2016 20:57

Thanks Fifi! That has made me feel a lot better! I know I will love him to bits I'm just scared that I don't know how to raise a boy! I had better take back the pink babygrows that I bought last week!! Oops Blush

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 08/03/2016 21:07

Lula I was quite shocked and a little sad when I had my scan. Not that I'm having another boy but that I will never have a little girl as this is definitely our last. I thought it would bother me for ages but I'm completely over it now. I can't wait to be a mum to 4 boys. I will be the only princess in this house Grin

Thom you will definitely need vests. If we get really hot days I tend to strip baby down to vest and nappy. For baby I have vests, babygros, romper suits and a couple of outfits.

Kaytee honestly you look great nothing at all to worry about.

Thistle you look great too.

I am quite big now I'll post a pic on Friday. I'm just embracing the bump. I'm definitely not going to weigh myself I don't want to know Blush

minieggaddict · 08/03/2016 21:13

Lulabells that's exactly how I felt. I was even a bit disappointed in boys clothes as I got so used to lovely girly outfits but that's me being silly and I'm now just excited about another baby. DD was very disappointed but she's got over that now I hope!

GoingLoopyQuickly · 08/03/2016 21:32

Lulabels i thought I was having a girl for most lf my first pg and then started doubting myself near the end. When I held my baby for the first time I looke and it was a boy. I remember saying "oh" and being a teeny bit shocked. But that lasted about 2 seconds. Since then I can honestly say having a boy is fab. He is a gentle giant. Affectionate caring and loves pirates, helicopters and cooking. They all have such unique and wonderful personalities. I still look at him in awe that I produced this little example of perfection.

We will hopefully find out next week if we are pink and blue, but I honestly don't mind. I am getting myself more on a fizz about the anomoly bit of the scan! I am so nervous of bad news.

Fifi - thom is the same edd as us. I can't remember having due date buddies last time. It is quite nice :)

Lulabells · 08/03/2016 21:37

Thanks Minie and Beautician. It's nice to know that I'm not the only who has had a bit of a wobble! I think I'm a bit sad because it's pretty likely to be our last child and so that will be my last scan ever and I will never be buying little girl things anymore!

I'm not great with change anyway and at the moment we are also trying to move house and I have gone back to work 5 days a week again! There has been a lot to take in recently.

Here to team blue everyone Brew! Not quite the same as a glass of wine but only a few months to go ladies!

Lulabells · 08/03/2016 21:42

Thanks Loopy. I am looking forward to having a cheeky little boy and so is my DP as he is out numbered at the moment and there is a lot of pink in our house (every room actually Blush). Good luck for your scan, I was nervous too. The second time around everything seems more scary but I'm sure it will all be fine Smile

Scase1firsttimemum · 08/03/2016 21:46

Im struggling so much to keep up with this thread!!Sad very chatty bunch of ladies haha

ValerieTheHorse · 08/03/2016 22:06

Thom definitely get vests. I've got short and long sleeved as well as sleepsuits. Ds was a late May baby and wore very little other than vests for the first few months. You can layer them under sleepsuits too if it's cooler.

For summer babies I found a giant muslin invaluable as a nice cool blanket/swaddle/sunshade/towel/sick cloth etc. Great things. They have them in tkmaxx sometimes.

MrsRolly · 08/03/2016 22:13

Wow ladies lots of chat! Fab to read through everyone's news Smile we also had our scan today found out we are having a boy. I brought a t shirt saying I'm the little brother and put it in a box for DD to open (she's 9) she has been desperate to know, despite secretly wanting a sister she was so excited and has gone off to research possible middle name.

Our scan also showed long femurs! We are really struggling with boys names a bit worried this baby may be nameless forever Confused

I'm planning to go on maternity at 38 weeks but DD was born at 37 so will have to see how I go closer to the end, hopefully working on being fully handed over to my maternity secondment by 34 weeks just in case.

Time seems to be flying now, have so much to do and sort. Sure it will all get done.

GoingLoopyQuickly · 08/03/2016 22:37

That is a really lovely idea for your dd mrsrolly. Your boy will learn so much about being a true gentleman from his big sis.

Thom80 · 08/03/2016 22:41

Loopy - I am also very nervous about the anomaly scan. Mine isn't for over a week & a half, so have time to get even more nervous!
Thanks for advice on clothes. I will definitely be getting vests now. Sorry to be dumb, but what are sleep suits?

GoingLoopyQuickly · 08/03/2016 22:43

Just a thought I would share too on the subject of vest and sleep stuff ect. I found that it all greys really quickly if you haven't had to cut your way out of a poonami. You might need to change the baby several times in a day and it will be summer, so you may find it is too warm to layer up. I remember the multi packs of sleepsuits and vests etc from supermarkets and primark my life saver. They have some really cute patterns and you won't feel bad if you decide "I am not even going to try to get that out".

But if I remember rightly, unweened poonamis were much easier to clean that later on. Especially with Oxi spray. The cleaning trouble starts when they are eating (vaguely aiming food at their mouth) and clothes get covered. Food stains are tough.

Ellizardo · 09/03/2016 07:14

thom - sleepsuits are aka babygrows - poppered up long sleeved onesies with feet. Rompers are also all-in-ones but without feet and can be short sleeved (good for summer). i totally understand your confusion, every item of clothing seems to have about 3 different names!

echo beautician - you need vests (wife beater type) and short sleeves for summer...most warm days they just wear those with a nappy and SPF50...john lewis/mothercare/M&S all do plain white 5x multipacks of these for about £7 so as loopy says, if they get poonami'ed, quite a common occurrence, you can just chuck.

totally agree about massive muslins..really useful for keeping sun/puke etc off. i found that i got a free lovely one from Aden & Anais when I bought a baby changing bag (now that's another topic!!)..

the shops haven't got too much summer stuff in at the moment...but now would also be a good time to also get 6-9 month old size winter stuff in the sale

AnnaT45 · 09/03/2016 07:14

Thom a sleep suit is like a onesie. An all in one thing. DD lived in them for first few months.

Agree with going loopy. Buy cheap vests etc for the first months as they get wrecked. Also as tempting as outfits are when they poo they are a pain and get ruined! DD is now 14 months and I'm embracing the outfits.

Chucking down with rain here! I know we will be moaning when it gets warm that were too hot but I'm over this weather now!
