P.s beautician your boss sounds shocking!!! Like you don't have enough to deal with. I hope you get it sorted x

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 19/02/2016 12:43

Anna I think crazy is a better way to describe me haha.

I want to be able to have drugs in labour if I need them. With my first I had Gas & air up until the last minute. He was wedged a funny way so I had to be prepped for a c section although forceps worked in the end. I was given a spinal block. Didn't feel it go in and felt nothing at all after that. It was bliss after a long labour. So I like knowing the option of an epidural if I want it is there. I would like a water birth this time.

I'm craving fish especially tuna which I have to be careful of as you have to limit it.

Mascara great news on the scan. I want one but unsure of when to have it as DH is rarely free.

Scase1firsttimemum · 19/02/2016 13:15

Unfortunately the runt of the litter died whilst I was at work this morning Sad it didnt seem right and I hated leaving it but OHs nan was there to keep an eye (thats where we are living at the moment, its her cat) but Im not surprised it went as mummy was rejecting it :(

I do want to keep one though! My favourite is the black and ginger one Smile but ofcourse its not up to me!

If you're worried about pets and babies, the best thing to do is introduce them slowly or make the baby seem like the best thing to ever happen to your pet! So when your pet goes near the baby treat them with little nibbly bits that they like or their favourite food, soon they will feel like the baby is not a bad thing Smile (I studied animals at college and learnt a lot about behaviour haha Smile)

Scase1firsttimemum · 19/02/2016 13:16

Re on fish.... UghhhConfused is all I have to say! Being pregnant had put me RIGHT off fish haha

Cheery1 · 19/02/2016 14:20

Me too scase! I normally love fish too!

Had my 20 week scan yesterday and she is happy and healthy and all is there and where it should be. Can't believe I'm half way now she's going to be here before I know it! Thought I'd share my bump progress pic that I've taken as I feel like I actually am getting a bump now! Also a little pic from my scan day yesterday.

Popped in to mothercare today and got a few bottles and nappy bin on sale :)

Also saw the quinny moodd and think it is my new favourite. I thought I was set on an candy but I think today we changed our minds! Any body have any review or comment about either?

smallplainblonde · 19/02/2016 14:58

Hi all, sorry I know I very rarely post but I do lurk and love catching up on this thread. I've had a bit of a rubbish time as my nan died last week and I'm finding it tougher than I thought I would. I'm in work now and finding it very hard to focus.

Loving seeing all the scan photos - seems like the time is going quickly. Although I'm a bit behind most of you at 17 + 6 and my scan isn't until March 11th.

Beautician I'm craving tuna too! Really trying not to eat too much. Other than that it's carbs, carbs and more carbs. I need to start keeping track of my weight and monitor it. Sorry to hear you're boss is being such a pain - that's the last thing you need.

Scase Those kittens are gorgeous! Such a shame one of them didn't make it. Thanks for the advice re pets. I have a dog who is like a baby to me and DH is very concerned about how he's going to react to the baby. I think he'll be jealous.

Ellizardo · 19/02/2016 17:03

Cheery - please don't worry about movements, had nowt until 24 weeks last time with a regular placenta and no running!

Got in touch with Polly too and she's doing our cakes for Ted's 1st bday, many thanks for the rec!

Scase - sorry to hear about kitten. Hope the others thrive.

How did the scans go ladies?

Thom80 · 19/02/2016 18:41

All this gym talk is inspiring me to get back on the cross trainer. I am desperate to keep active and motivated.
Congratulations on all the scans. I am still over month until mine. The first time they could fit me in was at nearly 22 weeks, as they need to do a full cardiac scan of the baby as well. I have decided to have a private one sooner as I can't wait that long, and hearing about all the scans makes me want one sooner!
I hope everyone has fun Friday plans!

verytiredmummy1 · 19/02/2016 20:18

Is it ok to join in the chat on trial thread please?
I'm due 30th July xx

Jem01 · 19/02/2016 21:06

Hi ladies scan went very well baby is fine we're both so relieved as we felt really nervous about it. I was so overwhelmed and really teary! Some days i find it hard to believe we're actually having a baby so seeing him move around was lovely. And yes it's a HE we did end up finding out I'm so pleased.

Will catch up with your messages I hope everyone is having a good evening.

Scase1firsttimemum · 19/02/2016 21:09

Pets can get jealous sometimes especially dogs as they're a sociable animal rather than cats, but yeah as I said make the baby seem like a really good thing by rewarding them everytime they go near the baby. I know it can be quite concerning with them being curious and sniffing but if you try to shoo them away they could see it as a negative so maybe telling them to sit or be gentle if they know these commands will help settle your nerves as they wont be towering over them :) however usually dogs can become protective of a new baby as they see at as a new member of the "pack" and become its guard which is very cute!! Sorry Im waffling now haha

And welcome verytiredmummy of course its okay Smile we are a lovely bunch of chatty women who have been there to give support and advice as and when we need itSmile to be honest this group has kept me sane through my pregnancy so far as Im a first time mummy! If you need a good rant we're here also Grin

birdandbee · 19/02/2016 21:25

Evening All!

Scan went well... Took along time though as She didn't want to cooperate today. She was nose down to the bed, curled up and did not want to turn over. Sonographer had me rolling over and jumping up and down- was great for the SPD!! But she's well, measuring adverage and is definitely a Girl.👶🏼💗

Jem - glad your scan went well and congrats on finding out you are having a Boy 👶🏻💙

birdandbee · 19/02/2016 21:33

I wouldn't say that I have cravings per se, but my taste buds have changed... Have developed a sweet tooth when pre pregnancy I was very much a savoury person. Now could devour a chocolate bar or cake in 5 seconds flat!

Am really off meat.... especially if I know it's from the butcher... but if it's a supermarket meat pie or bacon for example I can stomach that a lot better. All purely psychological clearly.

GoingLoopyQuickly · 19/02/2016 21:35

I remember at my 20 weeks last time they reeled off a speil about how the test was to check for anomolies and to ensure the baby is developing well. If at the end there is the opportunity to check the sex we would be able to. But to know it isn't 100% accurate...

We asked if she would mind writing it in a card so we could decideater. She didn't mind but asked we didn't come and find her ig she got it wrong. We gave ourselves until the end of the month or wait until after DDay. We ended up waiting and then checked the card to see she was right.

This time we want to find out so we can give the baby more definition for DS. Although not sure about naming it. We shall see.

I have my scan in three weeks and am starting to get that pre scan excitement /fear. I just want the baby to be healthy. I know it sounds corny but I genuinely do.

GoingLoopyQuickly · 19/02/2016 21:45

I think there is something about bf support in an acute setting but depends on where yu are. I have the mw visit me at home and tell me alut bf cafes etc. While my friend in hospital was given formula to feed the baby just a few hours after birth. Bearing in mind that babies don't need much for the first 24/48 hours. Colostrum is fine and really rich in nutrients. And the baby's tummy is only the size of a pea when it is born. It can't fit milk in! Cue projectile vomit after the first feed.

birdandbee · 19/02/2016 21:46

GoingLoopy- we also had a scan at 17 weeks and were told she was a girl and were told the same today at 20weeks scan. I think we can be pretty certain that we have a girl on the way ☺️.
You are right about knowing the sex and it giving the baby more definition to us and others.

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 19/02/2016 22:04

Ladies I feel we all know one another well enough to share.

Anyone else really struggling with feeling disgusting. I've never felt glam when pregnant. I feel the worst this time though. I'm not sure if it's because it's my fourth. I have bad wind and burp all the time. I have spots. My hair will not sit right no matter what I do with it. I just look and feel like a fat, ugly, disgusting mess. In turn this makes me a complete grump all the time.

Sad
Scase1firsttimemum · 19/02/2016 22:42

Beautician I feel you!! I feel super gross, no matter how much I shower I always end up with greasy hair quicker than you can blink, my skin seems to be so oily, especially on my face and the spots Sad I have them down my sides, my boobs, my stomach, my face even my bum and thighs SadSadSad I feel like one big massive spot!! Literally dont know how OH can look at me but hes determined Im still "beautiful" :LLL

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 19/02/2016 22:49

It's horrible isn't it Scase DH has been saying I'm gross with my passing wind all the time. It is pretty bad. My hair was really greasy last time but this time it's really dry. I had clear skin last time and this time it's spotty and really dry. When does the glow start haha Smile

Cheery1 · 20/02/2016 08:58

Brilliant news on scans ladies! Getting the excitement and the fear for ours on Tuesday - perfectly described GoingLoopy.

Elizardo - thanks so much for reassurance, I'm not very patient so that doesn't help! So glad you're getting cakes from Polly - she's a ruddy genius and totally lovely. Also I do love the name Ted, have you read "A God In Ruins" or "Life After Life" by Kate Atkinson? There's a lovely character called Ted in both.

Hello verytired! You are very welcome Smile

Scase - such good advice on pets and babies - our problem is that our bonkers, old cat isn't really our cat! We took her as a favour to my cousin when she moved to Bristol (because her numpty ex-husband decided she was too much responsibility for him, and yes he also has two young children so you can guess the rest). She's really unpredictable/bit senile (she's 14) so I just don't think we can keep her. I wouldn't trust her around a newborn. Think my cousin is going to take her back so she'll be ok. Sad though.

Beautician - I bet you look lovely. I can only imagine how tired you must be with three other children, your stupid boss, moving and general pregnancy tiredness. Maybe give yourself a break if you feel a bit low - you're really busy! Also I bet your 'not very glam' is super glam compared to most of us! Sorry you feel rubbish, just try to be kind to yourself Smile, sounds like you've got a heck of a lot on x

Morning ladies. Congratulations on all the scans and those that have found out if they are team pink/blue.

22+4 here and all quiet on the western front. Just getting on with life really. Having to have a serious think about when to start mat leave and how long I will take.

Good luck to those with upcoming scans. It's so nice seeing baby again.

Wishing you all a lovely relaxing weekend.

Cheery1 · 20/02/2016 09:23

Thanks beck - glad all ok with you!

Forgot to say 20 weeks today - half way!

Morning ladies. Hope you are all well. Great news on all the scans.

Scase, sorry to read about the little kitten. Sadhope the rest are doing well and you get to keep one.

Beautician, I don't feel very glamorous at the moment either. Feel frumpy, pale and my hair needs done desperately. Hope you start to feel better and work gets better too. Your boss sounds like a pain.

I had a bit of a hormonal melt down at DH last night. I was ordering a couple of sleep suits and vests in newborn size for the hospital. I know that we will get tons from others but I want her first outfit to be something we have bought her. DH basically said I was wasting money and I had bought enough already (which I haven't at all) and we will get lots of gifts etc. Also MIL has bought loads already (much more than me) and he hasn't said a word to her. I am not ungrateful but her taste is very traditional and opposite to mine. Maybe it's a control thing but I really don't see why I should feel bad about buying things for our baby. Got so annoyed I cried at him. Sad I apologised for the outburst this morning but tbh I don't see why I should. Meh.

Bluebell20 · 20/02/2016 09:59

beautician you should see what I look like this morning! Hair is two days overdue a wash because I've put it off... Yuck yuck yuck. And as Cheery says, you probably have much higher standards than the rest of us so your yuck is my fabulous!!

Cheery I love Kate Atkinson! Life After Life was amazing... Must have been hellish to copy-edit though! (That is what my freelance job is!) I'm saving God In Ruins for either when I'm heavily pregnant and can't do more than turn the pages of a book, or for when my little boy is here and I need something to keep me awake while breastfeeding! (It is possible to read and feed, right? Please tell me yes...)

Woodsy it is really hard, isn't it. I have started crocheting a blanket so that I can wrap him in something that I have made for him. I think that neatly sidesteps the issue of spending money - craft is my hobby so DH can't complain! We are mostly seeing what we can borrow from other people with kids before we buy anything.

I'm a little worried about people gifting us plastic toys etc. which I really don't want!
