Morning all! scared hope you are doing ok. Please don't worry about lack of sleep. With DD1 I was up for two nights no sleep when in labour due to her being back to back and having loads of contractions but no progress and my body just got through it - was only afterwards that I crashed out and slept once the post birth high was over.

Think I'll try to ring the community midwive line this morning and see what they say. I could just be being paranoid but I'm so worried baby is breech and they've missed it Confused

Paperblank · 15/02/2016 08:23

Scared

You can do this! We're all behind you and before much longer you're going to have your gorgeous girl with you.

I've brought pastries for the morning shift. Grin

Hope you've managed some rest, scared.

Beautiful day here in the north indom. Dd climbed opened the curtains when she climbed in with me after dh went to work so have woken up to glorious sunshine streaming in rather than a winter grey sky. If you are venturing to the coast my firend's pictures of ilfracombe looked amazing yesterday (dsis reports it calm and sunny so far) and there's a lovely soft play cafe (good cake!) at tunnles beach. There's a child friendly pub in Heal bay that does good food and a lovely beach side cafe in the same area right by the beach. Westward Ho! has good food at the sea front and a free soft play and wifi. If I can be asked to move that much a few friends and I are meant to be taking our children out to Fremington Quay in place of our normal music group so they can play with the train and boat bits while we eat great slabs of cake.

scared as others have said you are doing this! Hope you're in delivery soon and get to meet your dd.
And just to add my friend has had 2 emcs due to high blood presure and was able to be awake and have her dh with her both times. The first after a long induction when baby wad potentially becoming distressed, she was still given a spinal and had cuddles with her ds moments after he was out (at just under 35 1/2ish weeks). Last year her bp didn't become a problem until just before her due date, she attempted a gentile induction over night before deciding to opt for a second 'em'cs the following morning and was given a slot on the afternoon theater list. Even if it is an emcs it doesn't automatically mean GA and a mad panic. You're being monitored closely so any problems can be picked up early and delt with calmly.

I'll echo missi on sleep deprivation with a new born being so much better than lack of sleep due to csc during in pregnancy. You can lie in almost any position you like, no cramps, heart burn, exsesive dribbling, can actually fall asleep when you get into bed tired. The first sleep after all the adrenilin wore off was amazing, even if it was under 3 hours. Slept so much better with a new born!

magpiedreams · 15/02/2016 09:43

Mmm pastries thanks indom.

DS still feverish and miserable so our play date is off and we will be embracing CBeebies and duplo for the day I think.

Keep going scared you're doing great x

IndomitabIe · 15/02/2016 10:00

Thanks for the tips again dobby. It's utterly glorious here too!

DH is somewhere near Woolacombe today apparently. I'm waiting on instructions at the moment, but wondering if we should just pack a picnic and head out.

Oh no, magpie. Poor little dude.

dobbythedoggy · 15/02/2016 10:36

Oh woolacombe will be lovely today indom! Although I think high season carpark prices kick in today, which makes it stupidly expensive! We're too mean to pay as busing to the big beaches is usually cheeper than a few hours parking. We took dd to a lovely little pub last time we went to woolacombe that had a fantastic play area and big courtyard to run around in. It either had ship or jack in the name.

IndomitabIe · 15/02/2016 10:55

I could cry. Just managed to break the slow cooker dish trying to be organised and get dinner on for when me & DS get back from our 2.5 hour round trip. So no tea ready for when we get home and no slow cooker.

And I peeled my thumb.

Lovely as ND is I don't want to drive all that way because DH is a twat. DS has already started moaning. I can't give him lunch till we get there or he'll puke in the car.

I'll chuck all the prepped veg in the fridge, but the chicken is floured already - shall I fridge it as is or fry it off first?

Then I need to make a picnic as well.

Hope scared's induction is going better than this shambles.

TheMshipIsBack · 15/02/2016 11:00

indom chuck it in the fridge. If you're back with a couple of hours before dinner, do everything like you would with the slow cooker but put it all in a covered casserole dish in the oven for 2 hours at about 170-180.

sherazade · 15/02/2016 11:06

marmite- best way if you feel baby isn't quite positioned the way they say it is to insist on a scan at your next appointment exaggerate if you have to . Remember the baby could be hitting your cervix with hands rather than feet.
They kept telling me dd1 was head down until I insisted on a scan which confirmed breech, although to me it was very obvious she was breech- I was carrying very high and there was a very solid round shape poking high up. I was around 37-38 weeks at this point.

Any news from pug?
keep updating us scared and good luck!!!
The weather is beautiful here, wish this was 4 weeks forward and I could take the baby for a walk or something!

TheMshipIsBack · 15/02/2016 11:06

You can also dry bake the chicken pieces for an hour, don't brown them first, and brush with bbq sauce or honey/mustard with 10 minutes to go. Cut some veg sticks and eat with your fingers.

QforCucumber · 15/02/2016 11:15

Good luck scared I'm jealous of you getting to meet your little girl soon, going to be giving this one its eviction notice soon.
Was going to go to the tip today and get rid of all the crap we have stacked up in the garage but it hasn't stopped snowing and I don't like it - so deep cleaning day at home instead! 1st official day of mat leave so want to get the house all prepared before baby arrives.

IndomitabIe · 15/02/2016 11:26

Thanks TheM. I'm not a natural cook - it's usually stupid DH's remit. Everything's in the fridge now (except the par-boiled potatoes which are still hot so are in a sandwich bag outside instead).

Picnic is packed. DS has had a second dose of phenergen. Need to map my route by NT places, I reckon, then get going.

I would insist they bought us dinner, but then we've got the issue of a recently-fed travel-sick 4 year old again Hmm.

This is not the half term I'd planned!

hayleycookie · 15/02/2016 11:27

Wow I'm away for a weekend and everything's kicked off!!

Good luck Scared! I hope your cervix has co-operated and you're now giving that beautiful daughter of yours a big warm cuddle!

Hope your day gets better Indom! I would offer advice re the food, but I'm not the greatest cook ever! MShip bbq/honey&mustard idea sounds delicious though!

Q Hooray for mat leave!! Enjoy your nesting today.

DS has just been put down for a nap as he is the grumpiest grump that ever grumped this morning! Putting that with mummy trying to work from home, the list of tidying I want to accomplish today, and daddy starting a new job this morning does not equal a happy home so far today! Hoping he will actually sleep and will be his happy self again when he wakes up. Will also give me time to do what I need to with work.

I slept on an airbed at IL's this weekend. I say ''slept''... there was no sleeping. Then had to drive back which took 3 hours because of the traffic on the M11. Still feeling the aches today. Do not recommend either of these to anyone this far along in pregnancy!

MyNameIsSuz · 15/02/2016 11:43

Ooh exciting times, hopefully we haven't heard from scared because she's in proper labour!

I'm having a quiet morning, MIL is about to drop in for a cup of tea, have cleaned a little bit (gradually I will claw this place back to a point where I can just maintain the clean rather than having to blitz) and am planning to take ds to our little local museum for lunch - I offered the park but he wanted the museum, I'm fine with that as their cheese scones are amazing so I know what I'm having for lunch!

Last week at work starts tomorrow - four days to go!

scaredmum2be · 15/02/2016 12:25

Afternoon all. Still no baby and still not in established labour.
Regular tightenings every 3 minutes lasting 40 seconds and i can't talk or walk through them. Seriously if this is 1cm I'm not going to make it. All they offer is codeine and paracetamol and it does nothing. They gave me gas and air to use a speculum to see if water has broken then took it off me as not aloud anymore until 4cm . :(. It's honestly agony. I thought after a crap pregnancy I might get a good labour.
I did sleep some this morning. So much so that I don't remember what I ordered for lunch haha. Apparently I got woken up to be asked but I don't remember. Feel bad as I made a lot of noise last night on the ward for the other women but I couldn't help it. They don't believe me when I say it's agony as they say I'm only early on in labour hahaha. Seriously I'd rather just be taken to theatre and have a c section and they still won't tell me if I can have an epi in established labour.
At 6am had to have an anti sickness jab to as I threw up about seven times. Ugh. That jab killed. Fed up

TheMshipIsBack · 15/02/2016 13:14

Everyone's got differing pain thresholds, scared, don't let anyone put you off asking for relief as soon as it's medically safe. Your timings are very close to so-called established labour, walk as much as you feel able and hopefully that will speed things up. Fingers crossed your blood tests come back all clear.

marmiteandcheeseplease · 15/02/2016 13:23

Sorry to hear you're having a tough time scared. Have they checked the position of the baby? Could be back to back if labour painful and long. Or it could be your position - are you led down? If allowed you could try standing over bed or kneeling on all fours. Don't mind about making noise or a fuss - if it hurts make noise, I found that in labour with DD I could only cope by humming and singing really loudly!

Spoke to community midwife team this morning and ended up getting directed back to my midwife. She didn't have time to see me today thankfully so just booked me in for a scan tomorrow morning. I'm going to feel silly if baby's position is fine but I'd rather that than not have done anything and end up with a disastrous surprise in labour. I've really been keeping an eye on movements today and they are definitely very low so unless she's just punching, there's def something up. We'll see tomorrow! Thanks for all the advice.

indom hope the car journey hasn't been too awful and DS has managed not to be sick!

TriJo · 15/02/2016 14:36

Little dude is like a bag of cats today - feels like feet everywhere and he now appears to have the hiccups too, then it doesn't seem to take much for a couple of Braxton-Hicks to arrive when I go to walk around!

Huge hugs for scared Flowers

sherazade · 15/02/2016 14:52

hi scared hope you're ok- why won't they let you have gas and air till 4cm? That sounds a bit mean. Slow/stop and start/ painful latent phase labour is perfectly normal for an induction at 35 weeks/36 weeks and doesn't mean anything is wrong. Hopefully you'll have your precious little bundle in your arms soon.

marmiteandcheeseplease · 15/02/2016 15:04

sher I think not allowing gas and air early on is pretty standard, but I don't know why. When I was in labour with DD I was sent home at 4cm and told I wasnt dilated enough (actually I think they were just a bit busy) and they wouldn't let me have gas and air. I remember they couldn't even give me codeine as DP had made me take a paracetamol an hour before which had done nothing! I begged them to let me have gas and air but they were having none of it. Then when I went back four hours later and they admitted me they said 'now you're far enough along to have the gas and air' I could have cried with happiness haha.

Curtain pole in our bedroom fell down last night, disaster. Think our lovely new curtains are too heavy. DP took an extra long lunch break to come fix it whilst DD is out and (according to him) has cocked it all up trying to put an extra support up which isnt straight so he has to redo everything. He had to rush back to work in a big stress and now we've got no curtain pole and our bedroom is a mess with drills and screwdrivers led everywhere! Not what you want when you're 36+6 but hey ho. He was so upset I didn't have the heart to complain earlier, just have to hope baby stays put for at least another week as think it may have to be a weekend job.

scared hope you are doing ok. We're all cheering for you!

ffauxlivia · 15/02/2016 15:07

any pastries left ladies? I know it's the afternoon but it's morning for em and I'm bleary eyed from the CSC!

marmite well done on getting a scan - fingers crossed for you! indom hope your day got better!

scared sorry you're having such a tough time. I wish I had more experience to help you but listen to the other wise ladies! You are my inspiration as I know I will be scared when it's my turn too! Just hope you are finding ways to relax as much as possible Flowers

IndomitabIe · 15/02/2016 17:37

Just got back and dumped the pre-prepared food in a pan (that's actually quite nice, I could do that again!).

We thoroughly tested the phenergen by taking the cross-country route home. DS didn't puke! He was beautifully behaved on the beach. (It was rather nice really). Had a v quick chat with DH before they went for another surf.

One of the others had already hospitalised himself with some kind of injury. (Glad it's not my DH. Though the jaunt isn't over yet).

So, it could've been worse!

Scared, hopefully you're into the second 4cm by now ( they're much quicker than the first 4). Keep going!

Crispylicious · 15/02/2016 17:56

Just popping in to wish scared good luck! Hang in there, you're so close to holding your baby in your arms. I was induced with DD and it is a bloody long haul. Don't think I slept at all for 4 days solid! And they would let me eat for 2 in case I needed a section! But if I can do it, you def can.

marmite you've inspired me to ring my hospital and push for a presentation scan next week. My next MW appt isn't until next Friday when I'll be 36+3, so if she books a scan then, I won't be seen until I'm 37 weeks. I really need to know what to do if I go into labour if the baby is transverse and to discuss potential hospitalisation... ff sorry you've got the same worries.

indom sounds like an eventful but successful day! Hope your DH is v appreciative!

And yes to bag o cats and braxton hicks. Combo of baby squirming and bloating/wind is giving me terrible BHs!

KnitsBakesAndReads · 15/02/2016 18:03

I'm normally just a lurker on this thread but just wanted to say I'm thinking of you and wishing you lots of luck scared. Just a thought - I think you said your partner and his mum are your birth partners, could you ask one of them to speak to the midwives on your behalf about your pain and need for stronger pain relief? Sometimes it's easier for other people to be assertive for you, especially if you're feeling quite tired and drained already.

Good luck with everything, hope you have your baby girl in your arms soon.
