OK, OK, so we already had a couple of babies on the last thread, but we're going to struggle to keep up with the number of new arrivals in this one!!!

Morning everyone! Just checking in, 39+4 today. Past two nights I've been having contractions for a couple of hours, about 8-10 mins apart that then goes around 6 am so hoping this latent stage doesn't last too long.

Can't wait for more babies to arrive :)

Rufus200 · 25/01/2016 12:08

Anyone else having an outbreak of spots? I've suddenly got them on my forehead, nose and chin, seems my hormones are changing or could be all the sweating last night! 38+1

HandbagFan · 25/01/2016 12:23

Rufus - yup, I've got a face full of spots too. Also a whole patch of bumps behind my ear. Not sure if it's hormones or sweat but it's not very glamorous!

I'm resting now after s bout of cleaning - apparently the inside of my windows needed cleaning for probably the first time since we moved here!

Sighing · 25/01/2016 12:24

maisie yes. And run the dishwasher, sterilser, kettle & washing machine through a clean cycle. I could defrost the small freezer. Big one done and full of meals Blush

haquoi123 · 25/01/2016 12:53

sighing can I have some of your energy please?!! I begged a friend to come over and help me with my tidying because I couldn't cope Blush

madsaz76 · 25/01/2016 13:39

We've just had a health protection agency alert about flu ! Having a late winter spike. rufus do not under any circumstances go near your mum. If anyone having high temps >38 consider seeing doctor as will qualify for treatment. Flu kills sadly. More info on HPA website.

Ok boring doc hat off! 38+1 and have decided baby isn't coming. Not remotely impatient but I spent early pregnancy reminding myself likely to be late so don't think I will expect anything till due date. Could get surprised I suppose.

TENS machine was ok but then DH picked up control and randomly pressed a button which just happened to be up - cue me screaming and him panicking so not turning down or off. Don't think he's getting anywhere near it when I am in labour.....

I'm not allowed to paint the bannisters. Probably fair as I need to clear study & utility room out as a much more important task Smile

Rufus200 · 25/01/2016 13:50

madsaz how long after symptoms go is my mum going to be infectious? How long till I can go in her house. Just been looking for a hotel near the hospital as a back up and major £££s

Feel like I've been kicked in the lower back suddenly. Going to look for a heat pad, pain is that bad. Would have a bath but once again there are workmen in the house.

XingXingFox · 25/01/2016 14:00

I should do that sighing but can't be bothered! I should also clean the windows as ours are horrid but it's quite a tricky job with our crap sash Windows.

Random jobs I have enjoyed: spring cleaning all the cupboards and putting everything back in nice order; sorting and printing into photo books all our old photos from 2007 until now that have been sitting on the computer and then moving to external drive; sorting all drawers out so they are neat; washing tops of cupboards and shelves; making bunting and a mobile for the baby. I want to scrub the oven but am a bit afraid of the string chemicals! These might keep you going sighing!

MidnightRun · 25/01/2016 14:03

My spots haven't gone away from the first trimester... Stupid horrible acne!

I'm on my last week of work now and Iv hit a brick wall. Which isn't helped by the fact I'm sitting at work twiddling my thumbs after handing all my work over!

Also been having seriously weird dreams the last few nights!

I'm so ready to have this baby!!

MaisieDotes · 25/01/2016 14:04

mad I am so sorry but that image made me laugh a bit.

I have to bring DD to the GP this afternoon which I hate doing as it will be germ central. I'll have to be really careful not to touch anything. Luckily DH can come home to mind DS as it would be game over if I had to bring DS, he'd be cruising around touching all sorts. He's going through a phase at the moment where he's giving everything "a kiss" too. Really sweet but not so great when he decides the object of his affection is someone's shoe! Confused

madsaz76 · 25/01/2016 14:33

To be fair though it would have been funny if it hadn't hurt! Scared the crap out of him.

rufus I'm out of the house so can't access my work computer - and I only get to see people when they are really ill and admitted. Bottom line is I'm not certain.

Are you the vet? I can't remember (sorry). There is a government diagnosis algorithm on the HPA website - I suppose for me the question is is this definitely flu - so could your mum be swabbed?

If not flu then wait for her to be improving I guess. If positive then can ask advice from her gp. It depends on her risks and how long she has been ill as to whether she would qualify for treatment

Rufus200 · 25/01/2016 15:26

madsaz yes a vet, I was thinking 5-7 days after symptoms stop for virus shedding. 24-48hrs on surfaces. She is coughing terribly, running nose, dizziness, temperature and diarrhoea.

I'm in so much pain in my back, constantly. Getting some stabbing underneath as well. I do not do well with pain, I am the biggest wuss ever. There is no way I can do this for a week if this is just build up and not the real thing.

madsaz76 · 25/01/2016 15:45

I think 5 days is about right - the antiviral stuff can shorten it. Technically you are only at risk if an aerosol generating procedure but not worth the risk.

Have you got a TENS? Just mentioning I did have a great nights sleep last night by putting it on background and attempting to listen to my hypnobirthing CD. Still don't actually know what the CD says as haven't stayed awake through it!

goldmaple · 25/01/2016 19:07

maisie my DC came at 38 and 39, so I will be feeling over due after 39 wks! If you are ready then I hope the little one comes soon:)

I had many strong BH yesterday (how my first labour started) but they never intensify or progress. Hopefully all this practicing means actual labour will be short and sweet...Hmm

I can't remember who has an aversion to the hospital smell, but if you can get a small roll-on scent it would work well. I used one while traveling in hot east Asia and a quick roll on the upper lip gets rid of unpleasant smells (is easy to wipe off should you change you mind and easy to apply in case you don't want to be touched/massaged during labour). During labour I doubt there are scents to avoid (but if anyone knows better let me know!)

clumsypots · 25/01/2016 19:47

Thanks for all the scent tips everyone. Lots of strong braxton hicks here and feeling emotional, hoping it's just all the stress at work!

rufus hope your mom feels better soon. mad the same thing happened in my first labour, I couldn't think straight to ask someone to turn it down/off.

Rufus200 · 25/01/2016 21:43

Pain lasted about 4 hrs. Finally reduced but not gone. No tens machine as didn't expect to have to experience any pain.

Had quite an argument with my mum earlier, she didn't like being told that she would not be visiting my baby or that I would not be staying with her. Spoke again and she has wiped the conversation from her memory and is completely ignoring mine and my baby's health. There is no way DH is going to let her in my hospital room until she is better.

DH built me a screen door for the nursery this evening so that I can leave the room door open and not have a cat let themselves in with baby. Don't feel ready but that was the last thing we needed to do.

Sighing · 26/01/2016 07:08

rufus how's the pain now? Hurrah for dh keeping your mum at bay.

Tidyingwise I let the girls have a friend each round after school. That at least justified a good clean up today (surely I need to clean all the door handles and light switches again!). I'll go for a swim today and make some house admin calls etc. Which will put off the jobs thst need doing a tiny bit longer!

haquoi123 · 26/01/2016 07:19

sighing you're superwoman. Well I've resorted to helping my mum out with her tax (did mine in November) and thoroughly enjoying myself! Hmm Brain food :D I was out the house all day yesterday and it was wonderful! A really nice man also offered to carry a parcel I was picking up from the post office the 5 min walk to my car (it was the car seat base and huge and I was going to have to come back for it). Such a lovely man. He then proceeded to fix my boot when it wouldn't close. People can be amazing :)

Rufus200 · 26/01/2016 08:13

sighing no pain this morning. Went to sleep with a heat pad on.

Not quite sure what baby is doing but he was very high up this morning and I've just watched my bump in the bath go from having a bottom up by my ribs go down to my belly button. I'm assuming he has just re-engaged himself. Quite shocking to watch it happen in less then 1min. Bump has completely changed shape from when I got in.

haquoi it is so nice when someone does something out of the kindness of their heart, bet he felt like superman all day.

Really upset, not sure if I should post this but one of my NCT group has just lost their baby. They did know that something was wrong apparently from an earlier scan but never said anything and just went to class like everything was normal. I barely spoke to them but just the shock that someone could have a loss at such a late stage and the pain they must be going through. I keep on crying, really grateful I have a check up this morning and that I can currently feel wiggle butt and his bizarre antics this morning.

Shock123 · 26/01/2016 11:50

Hi all,
I have been woke up this morn at 3:30 am with lower back pain and period type cramp in lower belly this lased for about 1 min, then the same at 7:30 am and again 9:10 then little niggles here and there since it was painful and felt a lot of pressure in my bum as tho I could push but nothing there to push lol, I was just curious does anyone no if this is the start off labour and then things get closer I am 34+4 but I am being tested for icp which I no can start early labour I have spoke to midwife and she just says if am not bleeding and no leaking fluids then don't worry, it's easy for them to say don't worry but I am
Thanks

MaisieDotes · 26/01/2016 12:50

That's awful rufus. How terribly sad for the family.

I'm just back from MW appt, nothing to report. It was a new midwife who I've never met before and she went through my entire history with me again which has left me feeling a bit upset for some reason.

I suppose I just didn't expect it at this late stage.

I told her I'd never gone to term before and she said they won't do anything until 40+12 and then they'll scan me (I'm in Ireland) and possibly do a sweep. Then if nothing happens I'll be induced at 40+14.

She gave me an appointment for next week as usual and for some reason I'm feeling a bit floored and despite my best efforts I'm sitting here crying which is pathetic.

Disgusted with myself given that everything is ok really and especially in the light of rufus' post above. I'm not even due until tomorrow Blush

CaptainKit · 26/01/2016 12:59

Second day of ML here - not a single sign of anything happening, which isn't surprising as I'm only 37 weeks. Bloody bored though. My dad came over Sunday and Monday to get dome DIY jobs done, so today's my first real day of doing nothing other than napping and watching really crappy daytime tv. Was planning on going out for a leisurely stroll with the dogs, but as it's rainsville here, neither I nor they really fancy going out.

Need to figure out what things I can do to keep non-strenuously busy over the next up-to-five weeks, otherwise I might actually lose my mind!

haquoi123 · 26/01/2016 13:01

Oh maisie, sorry to hear you're feeling down. Waiting is so hard isn't it? I almost feel like I'm ttc again, I've done my part and now there's nothing else I can do but wait. But at least with this end of it we know that it will happen.

rufus that's bloody awful news. My heart goes out to them. I'm on a thread for women expecting babies after a loss and one of us has just had her beautiful rainbow boy. This is such a hard journey for so many people. I hope they can find some peace in the next few days, weeks and years.

shock I think it's just a case of waiting it out - having a bath might help calm it down. Also if you're not happy with what the midwife says you can try and get a second opinion

Phoenix80 · 26/01/2016 13:05

Just had a phone call from the hospital and they've had to push my c section back to Feb 4th instead of the 2nd. It's only a 2 day difference but I'm not very good at waiting. I'd got it in my head that it was a week today I was meeting my baby 😢

Sighing · 26/01/2016 14:18

All the cleaning. And my house is definitely not f**ing ready: aaarrrgggghhhhh. Plumbling. We have a leak in the ensuite and the bloody bathroom. So the plumber needs to rip out the boxing in. Investigate & repair. He can't do it until mid feb. Ring around several plumbers now. It's not looking good. Debating ipping sticks to my parents house. No idea what to do about school etc. Meanwhile my DH has become addicted to a new web comic and seems to be completely unconcerned at our lack of washing facilites.Confused very hormonal now. I need a Brew and Cake. I have been discharged from the GD team. But I just don't want to risk anything.
sighing might be hystericallycrying by this evening!
