Went for a walk today with dp around the village where fil lives - beautiful, but bloody cold! mrsben probably heading your way soon if you're close, nothing at home though when we got back.

Popping to primark now to invest in fillings for my hospital bag, a nightshirt, some pj bottoms, big knickers, I have a towel, is there anything else I need?

Lovely photo Q, I'm so jealous, I'd love to see a bit of snow.

I didn't even think about what the baby would wear if it's a cold March! I bet the shops will be full of summer clothes by then too so I suppose it makes sense to pick up something cheap in the sales now. We went to Austria in February and it took me ages to find anywhere that was still selling baby snowsuits. I just checked the long range weather forecast for my area and its predicting average highs of 9-10C throughout March - what do I dress a newborn in in those temperatures? .

Paperblank · 16/01/2016 14:52

I've got all sorts in my hospital bag - never knowingly underprepared is my motto. Hot Water Bottle? Check! Mini Fan? Check! Grin

Definitely flip flops for the shower. A big old dark grey bath towel for the post birth shower.

I'm not fussed about taking clothes for me...just something for labour, a nightdress and a pair of pyjamas. Anything else can be brought in (by DM...DH will bring something useless)

Can't remember where I read it now but if you get DH/DP or Birth Partner to pack your bag theoretically you should be able to say "please can I have x y z?" and they should know exactly where it is since they packed the bag.

Big blue ikea bag - fling everything in that if you have to move or when you go home.

Am leaving a snowsuit in the car just in case it's really cold when baby arrives. DH can bring it in if needed.

I really want to go to Primark. I'm going to see if I can persuade DH to take me next weekend!

Ok so TMI but gotta ask...

I know excessive discharge is normal... Which I've been getting for weeks and weeks but now I'm starting to get really paranoid it smells! Confused

It's not a bad smell it's the normal smell but it's really strong if that makes sense?!!!! It's white/ creamy and occasionally light yellow so it's not offensive or green or anything I just wondered if anyone else was experiencing this? I might go to GP just in case.

IndomitabIe · 16/01/2016 17:25

Jebus my 4yo is driving me insane. He's been pretty good all day, we've been at his friend's house. Now he's tired & hungry so screeching every time I have to say no to him. Which I have to do, every time he screeches & moans about something, lest I encourage that behaviour.

It's mainly normal 4yo behaviour, especially before tea. But I have absolutely 0 patience for it. Or the bloody cat constantly yowling at me for tea (it's not time).

DH can't get here soon enough. Angry

Can't help there gem, best ask the GP.

Trin I think you could probably drive up to the moor to see some snow if you wanted. Haytor might be good and accessible?

The rest of you, I've just seen the radar and it looks like snow is moving across most of the country from the west. Just missing the entire southwest. Boo. But you guys might get lucky.
TriJo · 16/01/2016 17:43

Once it stays north of London I'm happy.

That said, I've no intention of heading out again this evening and I'm quite cosy here - Leinster v Bath, a nice cup of tea and an M&S cookie :)

maybebabybee · 16/01/2016 17:51

Gem mine is the normal smell but smells strongly too Blush I was swabbed at my last midwife appointment though and all was fine, don't even have thrush. I wouldn't worry.

Glad I'm not the only weirdo who enjoys cold weather!

IndomitabIe · 16/01/2016 19:05

I think it's going to miss London, Tri (well, this time).

I'm still struggling to find any patience at all. But, I think I've finished putting my hospital bag together (finally found a humungous cheap nightshirt from Peacocks this morning), and I've cleaned out 2/3 of my bedside drawers to stuff with nappies, baby clothes, etc.

Pretty pleased with myself!

Though also just realised I should probably pack a bag for DS to go for a sleepover at short notice, probably with a set of school clothes (though I'm due in the Easter hols). Also need to actually ask my friend if she'll have him.

I've reminded DH I've packed nothing for him. He is expected to fend for himself!

MyNameIsSuz · 16/01/2016 19:07

I finally dug all the baby stuff out of the in-laws loft, hooray! Not convinced we found everything but haven't been through it yet so can't be sure. I did find the newborn insert for the car seat, which I'd been worrying about as I packed it separately to the seat (which we were still using for months after). Have a mothercare trip with MIL on Monday as the boy needs new shoes, so might try and get some bits then - pads and night bras etc.

I'm feeling extra annoyed at the cold weather though - I have been trying to sell my ancient car for ages, nobody wants it, I finally had someone coming to see it in the morning. Just tried it and it won't bloody start!!!! Argh!!!!!

We have no food in and it's freezing, I think we might get dominos tonight Smile

scaredmum2be · 16/01/2016 20:04

Hi everyone.
Well last night wasn't great. Fell asleep at 10 got up at 1 but went straight back to sleep then up at 3 again and didn't fall asleep until 6am again then was up at 8,9 and finally 10:30 for the last time. Didn't even need the toilet during the morning I'm just not staying asleep? Any idea why? I'm not in pain, I'm comfy, baby wasn't moving and I didn't need a wee. I was such a deep sleeper before so am most confused. Dreading work next week. It's my last full week but argh can't be asked with it.
Have basically hibernated since Thursday now. Had to phone in sick Thursday as Wednesday night was so bad.
We getting takeaway here tonight as well suz.

Not even bothering going to sleep early tonight. Going to see if going later means I skip the mid morning waking and not falling asleep. Constant headache and feel dizzy all from tiredness as the day after a good nights sleep all these symptoms disappear.

I take my hats off to women who are doing this for the second/third time etc with children already. I don't know how I would cope.

Re discharge mine is the normal smell but very strong. I think because theirs so much of it it's much stronger Smelling.

Q- lovely photo. It is bloody freezing here today.

IndomitabIe · 16/01/2016 20:27

Ah yes, Suz - need to retrieve the car seat from a friend and the insert from under the sofa bed (a DH job). Thanks for the reminder.

Scared that sounds like a reasonable night, about 7 hours all told? I think waking briefly is normal. Certainly I'm conscious of waking every time I roll over (gripping my massive pillow). And I think that happens with every sleep cycle. You'd normally come very close to waking anyway, but not quite there.

You really must stop checking the time, it's making you obsess, which is probably exacerbating the anxiety, and that's probably causing much of the headache/dizzy symptoms you're attributing to tiredness. 7 hours in total is what I would consider a good night any day of the year! (Though, I appreciate everyone is different).

Ohwoolballs · 16/01/2016 20:42

Evening all,
It's just taken me ages to read through since I last posted and I won't try and make a balls up of remembering who said what like last time Grin It makes me happy knowing where a few of us are locationwise - thanks!

It's snowing here! It looks lovely and is settling, thankfully me and DP did a nice big shop for all the essentials like Wispa Gold hot choc so I would love it if it got us stuck in the house tomorrow.

We went to Mothercare this morning and picked up some "going home from the hospital" clothes for the bub, including a big fleecy suit. From the big Tesco shop I picked up maternity pads, five pack of knickers and stuff.

Random question, does anyone have or know of a suitable alternative to Lanisoh? It was pointed out by DP that I am spectacularly allergic to lanolin. (He remembers the year six trip where we all touched sheep and I had an amazing rash after.) of course I could have grown out of it BUT I really don't want to test it with nip nip cream.

gem I'd see your GP if it gets pongy, but all the books keep pointing out how much we will be suffering with it. I think my foof is playing up a bit but for a variety of reasons. Got a kidney infection so have been given antibiotics which always make me have a bit of thrush and also drinking>peeing>wiping so much is making me a bit sore. It would be lovely if just one bit of me felt good! .

MyNameIsSuz · 16/01/2016 21:18

wool, I never got on with lansinoh, but I really liked the mothercare own brand nipple cream. I can't remember what it was called but it was definitely the best. Oh, and I never found better breast pads than the lansinoh ones.

Trinpy · 16/01/2016 21:24

Good idea about going to Haytor Indom, I might just do that.

Suz has also reminded me about the newborn insert for the carseat! Completley forgot about it! I think it may have found its way into one of the Big Boxes of Random Crap in the basement. Another little job for mat leave there I think Smile.

Very impressed with how organised you all are with your hospital bags packed etc. I updated my details on Boots parenting club to show I'm expecting another baby soon so I'm holding out on buying maternity pads, nappies, etc just in case they're nice enough to send me any vouchers.

Are you all planning on wearing nighties to give birth in? I had a cheap nightie last time but it felt too weird to change into night clothes in the middle of the day, so I laboured in what I was wearing and then stripped off completely apart from an old sports bra for the actual birth. I'd really like to try to be a bit more dignified this time round (don't laugh at me for trying to make the birthing process dignified!), just not sure what to wear.

MyNameIsSuz · 16/01/2016 21:37

I had a cheap jersey tunic dress from h&m last time trinpy, I'm so sad I threw it away after the birth as it was perfect. Black, sleeveless so not too hot, fake wrapover top half for easy access after, and short enough once I took my leggings off not to be in the way. And it cost like a fiver. No idea what I'm going to wear this time! Probably not a nightie as I feel like it'll be too long and all the material will get on my nerves, and I wouldn't wear it after - I much preferred pyjama bottoms and a feeding vest afterwards. I'm open to ideas!

maybebabybee · 16/01/2016 21:38

I have every intention of giving birth naked to be perfectly honest Blush

MyNameIsSuz · 16/01/2016 21:46

wool, I found it, it was this one

TheMshipIsBack · 16/01/2016 21:58

Naked sounds great, maybe! If I get the chance of trying water this time, I'd happily join the nude birth club Grin - otherwise probably a nightie again.

Snow here, little brats from down the road throwing snowballs at random front windows (same kids who knock/ring and run every few Saturday nights) got caught by one of the neighbours and got a right bollocking. DH caught them about to knock on our door the other night, opened it, asked pleasantly "yes, can I help you?". They're only about 12, they went bright red and mumbled something unintelligible before scarpering. I disconnected our doorbell and ignore any knocks that are only one or two hits - seems to be working mostly - when we first moved in it was every weekend several times a night, now it's only maybe a couple of times a month, and rarely more than one try on a given night.

Right, off to have my nightly bump relaxation shower and try to avoid the CSC! This baby is so high compared to DS - I can still walk for miles, just a little slower, but by nightfall my bump is tight as a drum and my ribs ache.

maybebabybee · 16/01/2016 22:02

Scared I would echo Indom's advice about not checking the time if you can possibly help it. I agree too that sounds like an OK nights' sleep, all things considered. I woke up last night and couldn't get back for ages but I didn't look at my phone once...I have a little portable radio so I put my headphones in and listened to radio 4. Very soothing. Might that work for you?

Ohwoolballs · 16/01/2016 22:50

suz thank you very much! I've added it to the list for when we inevitably go back to Mothercare.

maybe I'm hoping for a water birth and will either be naked or in a vest top. Most likely nudie. I have vest top jammies for after.

neh205 · 16/01/2016 23:17

I got my nightie from primark today!

CSC isn't ideal but think it's our body's way of preparing us for what's to come! I'm getting quite used to waking up a few times in the night and hoping it's getting me into the swing of things for when baby arrives.

No sign of snow here but secretly hoping for some snow days so I can work at home & avoid the London commute. I'm also delighted to hear 3 tube strike days are coming up claps with glee as can work from home then too.

I have a hypno birthing cd I need yo get round to listening to. Has anyone got any top tips for birth for those of us on our first time round?!

IndomitabIe · 16/01/2016 23:26

Can I officially open the CSC tonight? Been having a lovely relaxing evening reading should have been marking and started to doze off so switched everything off to sleep. Nope, it's super-uncomfortable-bump night. I've just given up trying to sit up a bit. High & tight is exactly how it feels, TheM.

Going back to birth attire. Last time I was all about being naked! But I thought I should at least be prepared to attempt some dignity/modesty. Night shirt is just like a huge stripe my t-shirt (though with buttons at the top for easy access!). So not too "night wear". And yes to vest & pjs after.

I remember "leaking" bleeding copiously on a couple of pairs last time. So defo pack several. I've got 3 pairs of bottoms packed.

Me624 · 17/01/2016 00:47

I've bought a Primark nightie, I don't like nighties at all but I can't think of anything better to wear! Not planning a water birth so I do need something.

I've only just got home after a night out over at a friend's, way too late for me but it was DH's last night out - at his own suggestion he's not going to drink now before the birth. With 7 weeks to go still I did say I thought he didn't need to worry yet (agree he shouldn't drink from 36ish weeks just in case anything starts happening) but quite happy for him to stop now if he wants to! Even if it did mean a big night out for him tonight and me having to put up with a lot of drunken silliness!

No sign of snow here yet in the south east but it is forecast for tonight - it was raining heavily all the way home so maybe the rain will turn to snow at some point soon!

RhubarbAndMustard · 17/01/2016 08:56

I wore one of DPs old shirts to birth in last time. Was so comfy and smelt of him. Could only wear it for the first part at home though as was in a hospital gown for the epidural. Had vest top and pj bottoms for afterwards. I would make sure they are old ones though. I threw mine away afterwards as they just smelt of hospitals!

For those planning a home birth, plan a 'transfer to hospital' outfit just in case. I didn't and ended up looking v glamorous in DPs shirt and some black maternity work trousers as they were the first to hand. Not sure I really cared though.

I'm going to buck the trend and hope for warm weather in March and beyond. Can't wait to sit in the garden with baby. Snow can come now if it wants, but nothing here yet in central Kent.

neh205 · 17/01/2016 09:37

Yay! We have snow!
