Well we were TTC but now we've graduated to growing a small human. Good buy peeing on opk's and ic's every day hello monitoring exactly how sick and bloated we feel and ensuring that we're never more than 30ft from a bathroom!

It's the TTC#1 graduates thread! Come and join us on a no holds barred exploration of first time pregnancy (but be really careful about opening any links about cervical fluid unless you have a very strong constitution... Let's face it you're pregnant so you don't)

Oh no Bunch. If it is that, will it basically stay throughout pregnancy? Have you tried soaking in the bath to help alleviate the discomfort?

I've had a date through for my 12 week scan - 23 February. It seems ages away but can't wait for it to be here!

Runner05 · 13/01/2016 15:28

Bunch what is pelvic girdle pain? I've never heard of it Confused

Pinklily1 · 13/01/2016 17:14

Just had a message from my midwife to say they have checked my bloods and I have a low platelet count, which means I have to see a consultant for more tests and depending on the outcome may need consultant led care.

I had a quick Google but there is really conflicting info - some sites say it just means you can't have an epidural, some say it means you need a c section, some say it means you can't have a c section and other sites say it's an indicator of possible pre-eclampsia. The internet is a wonderful tool but also totally bamboozling! Hmm

BunchOfBobs · 13/01/2016 17:21

Pink that's what my SIL had with at least 2 of her 3 pregnancies. She had to have sections and 2 weeks early with them. Basically her bloods were being monitored daily the month before bubs was due. She was also signed off driving some times as it meant she was at risk of fainting spells. She dealt fine with it, it just means you'll be looked after more. You may be fine so wait until the rest of your tests are done. Fx all is fine.

Pgp is any pain associated with the pelvis, like spd, it doesn't usually show up until t2. I spoke to the midwife and she said it's probably too early but to call the GP if it gets worse. She has suggested I keep my feet up with something under my bum to keep gravity affecting it. She thinks is most likely just increased blood flow but ouch walking is painful.

Pinklily1 · 13/01/2016 17:25

Bunch, thank you so much for sharing - actually hearing about your SIL has made me feel better. I don't mind a c section if it's necessary and I suppose there will be benefits to extra check ups.

I hope your pelvic pain eases with the midwife's tip.

sophied1983 · 13/01/2016 17:31

My doctor said paracetamol was OK, but to avoid ibruprofen, so no Nurofen or anything like that.

Runner05 · 13/01/2016 17:53

Oh Pink I hope the tests come back ok but as you say, having extra check ups can't be a bad thing.

Bunch I hope the pain eases soon!

Just waiting for OH, he's going to be lovely and give me a lift to the hospital to see mum. Don't think I'll be there long though as feeling really pukey and tired. Do want her thinking I've forgotten her though.

Shelb can't wait to see your scan photo, hopefully you can crop it. How did it make you feel seeing it on the screen?
Pink I hope the platelets aren't too serious and Bunch I hope the pain wears off soon.
Runner how's your mum doing today, did you get an update from the hospital?
My day has been pretty uneventful, I have made an appt with my GP for next Tuesday. Unfortunately they only do late (after work) appointments on a Tuesday night and last nights were fully booked.
Oh, actually I enrolled in the Open University and got access to all my coursework today. That should keep me 'busy' on the night outs I'll have to miss X

shelbTa · 13/01/2016 19:23

Hi,

Ah pink that must have been a real shock - how you doing?

Bunch - I'm wincing at the sound of that.

Runner glad you're picking up.

Nev - omg I'm so cold ALL the time, it's almost reduced me to tears. It can be a sign of anemia.

Feeling pretty nauseous now, most towards the end of the day. Food stops it for a while but then it comes back.

X

Pinklily1 · 13/01/2016 19:40

Shelb, I'm ok thanks. The message from the midwife was quite upbeat so I'm trying not to be too concerned. I'd rather not have a c section but if it proves necessary I'll happily do it if it's the safest way to deliver baby.

Try to eat little and often. I've found that if I let myself get to hungry the sickness gets worse.

Runner, I hope you managed to visit your mum and you felt OK (and that she is doing ok too). It must be hard juggling things when you are feeling so crappy.

Lana, what are you studying?

I need a good book to read to stave off boredom whilst I am off - does anyone have any recommendations? I like things like The Girl on the Train - thrillers, crimes, and also don't mind a bit of girlie stuff too!

shelbTa · 13/01/2016 19:44

Sorry lana I didn't reply - it felt amazing!!! I'd strongly recommend it. I'm not going to post photo as although I've cropped it my phone sometimes posts the uncropped version and I'm terrified to get outed before work know. Sorry guys.

Lanadel · 13/01/2016 20:17

I'm studying Business Management Pink really looking forward to getting started. In regards to books, I would recommend James Patterson books if you like crime/thrillers, great books and never take too long to read.
No worries Shelb that's understandable. I might look into getting one ☺️.

Runner05 · 13/01/2016 21:16

Lana good luck with the study Grin

Shelb hope the nausea doesn't get any worse.

Pink I thought "the book thief" was really good, I'm reading Patricia Cornwall "postmortem" at the moment and enjoying it so far. I really loved Philippa Gregory "lady of the rivers" (prequel to the white queen).

Still feeling shitty this evening but managed to eat toast and dairylea with some fruit and actually enjoyed it.

Went to see mum, she's not looking good Sad quiet, confused and not eating. She's also been snapping at the nurses. She should really be improving by now but she seemed just as bad if not a little worse.

Morning ladies, how you feeling?

I'm exhausted and queasy this morning and thoroughly fed up of this being the normal state of things. I'm going to try really hard this afternoon to feel well enough to check my emails and look into care homes for mum but I only just manage to read this thread at the moment.

Hope you're all feeling a little better today Thanks

Morning,

I feel fucking awful today. Sick and like I'm getting ill on my chest. About to get on train (with zero make up on) and absolutely dreading it.

Uhhhhhh......

Nevlet · 14/01/2016 11:08

Oh no shelb! I think we are at almost the same day (6+3/4) and I don't feel the best either. Also a bit coming down with a fluey virus like. Increasingly feel as though its 3am and I have just got home from pounding tequilla and have the dizzy spinny sicky feeling!

Morwenna1 · 14/01/2016 16:02

Hi All, I still feel pants (still got my cold thing) It's eased up a bit but I had a headache for most of the morning. (Not ideal when you can't take painkillers!)

Did anybody get the flu jab? (For those who don't know, I was told to wait till 12 weeks by my GP). When Trusts do things differently across the country you do wonder what the best course of action would be. I'm defo going to ask again about it at my booking in.

Sorry to hear your Mum isn't good Runner. Must be difficult dealing with that situation as well as everything else that's going on.

Anyone else noticed they can't walk as fast as they used to?! I get so breathless now! I was walking around town the other day and I felt like a 90 year old! Had to sit down on a bench to get my breath back.

DrWhy · 14/01/2016 16:42

Morwenna it's strange you should ask that, I had a flu jab about 15 minutes ago! I forgot to ask about it when I made my booking in appointment and half the office seems to be going down with flu. I'd taken the afternoon off work to go into the bank today, walking back I went past Boots who were advertising it. I popped in and they said that they could do it at any stage of pregnancy but it would be free if I called the Drs surgery, I decided that for the convenience is just get them to do it then and there. It's not a live vaccine so can't actually cause flu and I really don't fancy having what some of the office folks have had!

Pinklily1 · 14/01/2016 17:33

Hi ladies

How are you all? Sounds like a few of us are rough, I really hope it improves soon. Shelb, did you make it to work?

It honestly staggers me how varied the advice we get is - my midwife told me at my booking in appointment at just over 5 weeks that I should have the flu jab asap, ideally within the next two weeks. I had it on Tuesday. When the advice is so varied it does make you question how much to trust what you are told, but it's too late for me now anyway as I have been jabbed!

Thanks for the book recommendations. I like James Patterson and Patricia Cornwell so will give some more of their books a go.

Is anyone else still getting AF type pains?

DrWhy · 14/01/2016 17:59

Yep Pink I think I'm a bit behind you only 5+3 and definitely still getting AF type pains.

DrWhy · 14/01/2016 18:01

Oh and my booking in appointment isn't until 8 weeks so I just got the flu jab privately as absolutely no official medical advice about anything yet (food, vitamins, medication, vaccinations etc.). I'm going by the NHS website.

Nevlet · 14/01/2016 18:06

Yes pink still get them at 6+4! Feeling so sick nothing helps don't know if i have it in me for another day at work tomorrow!

Pinklily1 · 14/01/2016 18:09

I'm 6+6 today and had them again during the night.

Runner05 · 14/01/2016 18:25

Mor I second you on feeling like a 90 year old. I was walking across the car park to the hospital with OH today and just couldn't keep up.

Mums not improving, in fact getting worse. Nurses seem optimistic but I'm wondering if she's just had enough and decided to give up.

Nevlet · 14/01/2016 19:22

Oh no runner sorry timo hear about your mum Thanks

Got 12 week scan date and letter today its actually at 13 weeks not much longer to wait really but think we will go private at 10 so we can tell a few people over half term. Feeling more real as if feeling like shite didnt already feel real
