Thanks for the info, mascara and Cheery. Feeling rather wretched but don't feel like I really have a right to complain when some of you have been dealing with this for weeks now. Perhaps it's a morning sickness - jetlag combo? I might tell myself that in the vain hope that this stops tomorrow. DH is being absolutely great, though. Breakfast in bed to prevent the bathroom barf-fest... which could be some self-preservation on his part but that's fine by me!

mascaraisamust · 30/12/2015 12:21

I've just had to run to the bathroom twice, luckily stopped myself from being sick both times. Now I know I've got to try and eat to calm it down. Vegetable soup was a struggle! I know I've had it good too Pulpi so can't really moan.

Cookiesandcoffee · 30/12/2015 12:29

indians I'm really sorry to hear that. These nasty symptoms can really take their toll. I have had some very 'fed up' days and I haven't even suffered with sickness. Lots of hugs and really hope it eases soon. I got a sexing scan for Christmas and it's made January a whole lot more exciting/something to look forward to. Was cheaper than I remembered them to be!

Glad you are back pulpi sorry to hear about your sickness. Are you ok up in Scotland? You haven't come back to a flooded house or anything have you? I can't remember where you were exactly. I found a lot of my symptoms got worse in week 10. I think it's the height of the hormones before the placenta kicks in around 12/13 weeks. It felt to me like I had an extra 'surge' so to speak. I cried loads!

Really sorry to hear those are suffering with spotting. I think I read somewhere that 30 or 40% of pregnancies have some degree of spotting that all go on to have healthy babies. Don't know the source but it's deff more common than people think. Any concerns or worries always put your mind at rest in my opinion.

missclarke you are being very strong. Trying to keep positive for you. So sorry there hasn't been more growth. Hold on in there Thanks

julfin you will feel 100% better after your booking in! They allow up to 2 hours so you can ask all the questions (sure you will have some along the way) and they ask you a million questions too like culture said. But if you have any questions then always post on here! There's quite a few mummies already

Lovely to hear about your scan cheery and your DH. Also congrats to you elliz and I think you are our first confirmed team pink/blue?! How exciting. I'm counting down til mine- 2 weeks 4 days I think ha.

Official welcome rolly ! Lovely to have you.

beautican teddy is on my boy list! But I think I'm leaning towards Theodore as sounds better with our surname. I like very few boys names Confused despite having two girls already my girl list has so many more options which I love. Hope your scan goes well

I'm getting annoyed and panicked we haven't had our NT results back but I'm sure it's just a Christmas thing. Had them 2 weeks ago tomorrow Sad

cookies - I reckon no news is good news, probably means everything is normal so no rush to get them to you. Frustrating I know but I think they get in touch fast if anything looks wrong.

pulpi · 30/12/2015 16:44

No flooding for us, cookies, but plenty of gusts and rain. Our part of Fife is pretty well away from the worst of the storm, which is great. Good to know that the placenta should be kicking in soon. Not long to wait for week 12/13 now.

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 30/12/2015 17:28

Thank you for the scan well wishes. Relieved to say that all is well. A day out on dates. So due date is 8th July which is daddy's birthday.

Great news beautician!

Bluebell20 · 30/12/2015 18:39

Very happy to hear about all the good scans - cute pic, Beautician; looks like your little one is levitating in there!

Cookies I'm the opposite - lots of boys' names that I like a lot and would choose, but no girls' names that are just right.

I had the Harmony done this morning - lovely doctor, very clear about everything and put me at ease. Should get the results back by Monday 11th at the latest.

Also, I don't want to speak too soon, but I am getting way better at blood tests! I'm not working myself up so much before them, which means I don't feel as sick, and I didn't even feel dizzy at any point with this one!

Lucy90 · 30/12/2015 20:22

Hi ladies does anyone mind if I join?
Had dating scan today and due 9th July! This will be my second child, I have one DD who will be 1 on Monday!

Welcome Lucy! My DS is 9 months so we're in the short gap club! Glad scan went well.

Indians - I felt totally different this time around too. More nausea and more achy/gassy...and turned out I am having a girl so for once the old wives' tales were true!

Beautician - lovely scan pic!

Ellizardo · 30/12/2015 22:02

Cookies - v annoying about test results, sure it's just Xmas in the way but any chance you can call? Agree with cheery tho - when I was high risk last preg, they called me within 48 hours to break the news so fingers crossed!

CultureSucksDownWords · 30/12/2015 23:34

Forgot to say that I had my NHS dating scan on the 29th, and had the blood test for the combined test. Not sure when I'll get the results.

Baby was not very cooperative and wouldn't turn and stay still in the right direction. I had to wiggle and jiggle, march on the spot and then eventually got sent away for 20 minutes to have something to eat. Eventually after all that, baby did stay in the right place long enough for the sonographer to do the nuchal measurement. She changed my dates too, slightly, so my due date is now the 5th July.

Cheery1 · 31/12/2015 07:50

Welcome lucy - I have same due date as you and indians, it's my first so I'm guessing you will both be much more relaxed than me over the coming months!

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 31/12/2015 08:27

Bluebell haha the picture is actually upside down as baby was lying on its tummy. Glad blood tests are getting better for you. Mine was quite bad at the hospital. The nurse couldn't have been any less interested & was really rude.

Hi Lucy
*
Indians* I'm driving myself crazy symptom comparing. I'm more tired, more gassy & my boobs hurt more this time. I'm trying to convince myself it's another boy though. We are finding out at the birth. I guess it's decided now anyway and it's definitely our last baby.

Elli thanks. I had a small age gap between ds1 & 2 they are 17 months apart.

Culture congratulations on the scan. I had to wiggle too as the sonographer couldn't quite get the measurement on the neck. He managed it in the end and took two measurements. He went with the higher one which was still apparently way under 3.5. I know the lower measurement was 2.1. So now I just have to wait for the bloods.

I feel so much better now I've had my scan. I'm going to buy babies going home outfit I think. My next scan is 24th Feb.

Lucy90 · 31/12/2015 09:25

My pregnancy feels exactly the same so I think I'm in for another girl which would be fab! Finding out 22nd Feb! Is everyone else finding out too?

Bluebell20 · 31/12/2015 09:53

That's a shame about the nurse, Beautician. I've been really lucky - everyone I've had so far has been very understanding. It makes so much difference! My private doctor was super yesterday as well - she got my husband to hide the blood she'd taken under some paper while she finished up with me, so that when I sat up I couldn't see it!

We went to see some friends yesterday who gave us their baby car seat, as they are not planning on having any more children. It made it all feel scarily real! It is funny thinking that there will hopefully be a baby to sit in it in six months' time!

Bluebell20 · 31/12/2015 10:02

Ooo, another thing I have kept forgetting to say was that at my scan last week I found out that I have an anterior placenta - where it's at the front of the womb rather than the back. Apparently mine is high so shouldn't be an issue for the baby unless it moves down further in pregnancy, but I've looked it up and it might mean I don't feel the baby move as much, because the placenta will be in the way.

Any of you old-hatters got any experience of this?!

Woodsy81 · 31/12/2015 10:23

Hello everyone
Not been logged on in a few days as we are on holiday in the land of no internet signal.

Our harmony results are due today. (Feel like I am waiting on exam results). We haven't heard from our results from our NHS scan from last week. The sonographer said that if we had not heard by Monday past then it was a case of no news is good news. So I am feeling positive.

Just want to tell our extended family. Feels like it's been forever! We told my mum's best friend last night as she had had a bad day. She burst into happy tears. Totally didn't expect that reaction. Smile it's been like that with everyone we have told. Their reactions have been either more subdued or more emotional than we expected.
I will try and catch up on thread. Hope everyone is good, keeping well and looking forward to the new year. x

minieggaddict · 31/12/2015 10:41

Bluebell, when pg with dd I had an anterior placenta. I was told I wouldn't feel movement early. I felt fluttering at about 18 weeks but only really knew it was baby at the 20 scan when I felt what we could see! I felt movements pretty well throughout after that but she was huge and very wriggly so depends on yours. At this 12 week scan the sonographer said it was too early to see where the placenta is which is worrying me now if others know already? She was pretty quick so think she was just concerned with the nt and dating measurement but I'm so paranoid!

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 31/12/2015 10:54

I'm starting to become really anxious about second trimester miscarriage now, as I had two treatments in 2014 for cervical abnormalities. I'm booked in for a cervical length scan on 14 Jan, when I will be 16+3, and I'm so worried that I might lose the baby before that, or that I will need an emergency stitch that won't work. I wish I'd never had the second treatment: it turned out to be totally unecessary and I don't feel I was properly informed of the risks or given a real choice at the time.

mascaraisamust · 31/12/2015 11:03

Youandme is there anyone you can call to talk over the risks/put your mind at ease? They've probably seen it all and will be able to reassure you.

In all honesty this is #1 and some of the talk is going over my head, it's a little worrying how little I know! Think I'm being purposely ignorant until the 12 week scan - did anyone buy a book with their first? Or should I just google/rely on apps? . Minie I know nothing about placentas but maybe call your midwife and get them to query it.

Gosh you all seem so far ahead of me! In 10+5 here today. Another 12 days before the scan yet! Need to keep busy!

Cheery1 · 31/12/2015 11:07

youandme - I don't know the stats but a good friend had several treatments after abnormal smear tests, and had some of her cervix removed. She has gone on to have 2 gorgeous, healthy babies with very ordinary pregnancies. Be hopeful x

InsufficientlyCaffeinated · 31/12/2015 11:33

Mascara I'm 9+6 and don't even have a scan date yet, booking appointment isn't for another week so you're ahead of me. Going by last period, due 29th July so I'll be sitting here on my own talking to myself when you lot all have babies already! Envy

Haven't checked in for a while, been busy over Christmas so hope you're all doing well. Found out SIL is having IVF. She doesn't know yet but we're really concerned about handling the news sensitively. Going to tell her first after the scan so she doesn't find out second hand. Any tips on ways to break the news gently? I know she'll be happy for us, first niece or nephew for her, but at the same time I know IVF is fairly hard on you and she's had lots of health problems so don't want it to seem like we're rubbing it in her face.

CultureSucksDownWords · 31/12/2015 12:07

I had an anterior placenta with DS1, I felt movements at 19 weeks ish but very faint flutterings. Didn't have any other effects, and it didn't cause any problems. I don't think you can always pick up where the placenta is during the 12 week dating scan. I was 13 weeks when I had my dating scan and we did see the placenta and umbilical cord, but I can quite easily see how it could be hard to spot. Mine's posterior this time so hopefully I should feel movements sooner - looking forward to it!

I have a friend who is having fertility treatment and I have no idea how to broach our news with them either.

Youandme, I hope you get reassuring news when you have your cervical scan, and in the meantime could you call a midwife (do they have a non-emergency number?) and talk about it with them?
