Congrats MissClarke, what lovely news! I was proposed to this time last year - one year on we are married and expecting a baby - a lot has happened!

Mel, sorry about your mum - I think we mums to be are so over-sensitive at the moment, your mum expressing her concern like that really can't have helped. I am off to visit my family tomorrow and I expect similar worrying from my own mother about my iron levels, age, etc. I'll have to try to stay calm.

Personally I've had virtually no discharge since being pregnant. Quite dry if anything.

Can't remember who asked me about the Star Wars movie last week, but yes, I enjoyed it! First one I'd seen on the big screen. The ending was filmed near where my family go on holiday in Ireland, so that was fun.

It's a week tomorrow since we had our scan, and I've already started worrying again, even though everything was normal. Can't wait to get the blood test results back. This is going to be a long 9 months!

12+2

ChorusLine69 · 26/12/2015 08:31

Melvali, my scan is in 2 weeks as well. I was terribly sick with my DS ( aged 15 months now) but this time round I've only had a bit of nausea and tiredness - feels completely different but midwife not concerned. Don't know how your mum thinks it will help you to say this?! Just wanted to reassure you I'm in exactly the same boat and that parents can be odd at times! I told my dad I was pregnant earlier this week and his response was " oh dear" Confused

ChorusLine69 · 26/12/2015 08:36

Oh and hope you all had lovely Christmas days and enjoy the rest of the festivities x

Cheery1 · 26/12/2015 08:44

Congratulations miss clarke!

redstrawberries101 · 26/12/2015 08:53

Chorus line - thanks for sharing. My mum is usually great and we get on really well. We are more like friends than mother and daughter but yesterday she caught me on a bad day and it was the way she said it. Had she said lets keep an open mind I wouldn't have minded as I've been saying that all along. It was the 'I'm a little concerned' that really got me cross! I finished the convo by saying that if this doesn't work out I don't want to hear 'oh and that's why you never had strong symptoms. Oh that's why you had bleeding early on' as if these were massive tell tale signs

Biggest thing I've learnt on these threads is that everyone's experiences are very different. I think Loki had strong symptoms but only the scan revealed the bad news. No one is in control, we can just hope for the best and deal with things as and when they happen, good or bad.

Thanks for your support guys!! Hubby has got the flu and I've got a sore throat so no Boxing Day sales for us!

Vickie360 · 26/12/2015 10:31

Merry Christmas everyone hope you all had a lovely day. Congratulations Missclarke that's lovely news. Mel and chorus I've got my scan on the 8th to! A quick question has anyone a strange sensation like a bubble popping in my tummy area it's happened twice not sure if it's just wind!

allthegoodnamesalreadytaken · 26/12/2015 11:35

Merry Christmas all, and congratulations missclarke

Vickie I had the same sensation a couple of times last week. Not sure what it is.

Asos have a fab sale at the moment on maternity wear if anyone wants to start stopping up!

allthegoodnamesalreadytaken · 26/12/2015 12:24

Jem01 · 26/12/2015 13:23

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas!

MissClarke86 - big congrats what a lovely ring! :-)

BelOfTheBall79 - such a sweet scan pic!:-)

allthegoodnamesalreadytaken - how did the cake go down as your pregnancy announcement? Such a good idea by the way!

Bluebell20 · 26/12/2015 17:11

Loki, I'm so, so sorry to hear your news. Thinking of you and yours, and I hope that you managed to have a lovely Christmas with your daughter. x

Kaytee1987 · 26/12/2015 18:35

Congratulations missclarke!!

Yesterday my mil rubbed my stomach twice, why so people do this? I really don't like being touched by anyone other than my husband but she didn't give any warning so I wasn't able to block her. I don't have a bump so what is she even touching??!! She also asked me what names we were thinking of so I said it was too early and we probably won't be telling anyone our ideas anyway. She then asked again later on, at which point bil told her to mind her own business. She said it was her business and we had to tell her, she then proceeded to give me a list of names that she liked.
I usually get on very well with her and feel bad moaning but figure I'm better doing it here than to my husband. I appreciate she's excited but Im worried she's going to become overbearing Confused

Kaytee1987 · 26/12/2015 18:38

Also she was bossing me about all day telling me I shouldn't be doing this and that (tidying up etc) and was trying to physically make me go to bed at certain points during the day. My family were also round so I wanted to spend time with them not go to bed. My husband did tell her to leave me alone at one point but she didn't pay any attention. God I'm a right moaner today Blush

Cookiesandcoffee · 26/12/2015 19:31

I have been so caught up in the hecticness of Christmas and coming down with a lurgy yet again. As has DD2. Fun fun.

Loki I am absolutely devastated for you at your awful news. I hope everyone is looking after you in RL. I can't imagine what you're going through. We will miss you on here very much.

missclarke congratulations on your news Smile

allthegoodnamesalreadytaken · 26/12/2015 20:16

jem it went really well. Mum loved it and was over the moon. It's her first grandchild and she's been nagging us about it since we got married 18 months ago. Everyone loves cake so after the initial surprise everyone got to have a good scoff!

Bluebell20 · 26/12/2015 21:47

I just got home from Christmas at my in-laws' and my combined test results were waiting for me. It is officially low risk, at 1:1163, but I was expecting it to be much, much lower and I am really upset. I am feeling very tired and hormonal today anyway, and now I am in floods of tears. I feel I ought to do a Harmony test. We're not rolling in money but we could afford it. But I am terrified of having to terminate. I just don't know what to do. What do you guys think?

Kaytee1987 · 26/12/2015 22:29

Bluebell what is the 'average' kind of the result do you know? 1:1163 does seem like a very small risk, what's the cut off for low risk?

CultureSucksDownWords · 26/12/2015 22:41

Bluebell, I thought that the cut off was 1 in 100 (or 150?), so 1 in 1163 is a very very low risk, I thought. As I'm an older mother, the starting risk for me for Downs is 1 in 150, before any tests are done. 1 in 1163 is a much lower risk than that. As it's not a diagnostic test, the result will never be a zero risk.

Do you have a midwife appointment soon? Or perhaps they have a non emergency number you could ring for some further information and hopefully reassurance?

Bluebell20 · 26/12/2015 22:42

Cut-off is 1:150, Kaytee, so I am way lower than that.

I've been doing a ton of research over the past hour and I have confused myself - I don't know whether I am being ridiculous or not. I probably just need to go to bed and have a good sleep - I am absolutely knackered and have already sobbed once today about something else much more minor (in front of the in-laws; very embarrassing).

DH did just point out that lots of other things could be wrong with the baby, and that although ideally we don't want a child with Down's Syndrome, if we happen to be the very tiny percentage (0.086%) that would have one with these results, then we would just love it and get on with life.

I feel really bad for feeling so miserable about it when people get much much worse results back. Definitely need a good sleep.

Kaytee1987 · 26/12/2015 22:49

Aw bluebell get yourself to bed for a cuddle with your husband and I promise everything will seem much better in the morning. Also stop looking things up as the stories you read are always worst case scenario's. Flowers

Bluebell20 · 26/12/2015 22:50

Thank you so much, that's a good idea, Culture; I will try ringing the midwife when the surgery is open again on Tuesday.

Having looked it up based on age, I think my starting risk was slightly more than 1 in 800, so that means that the combined test has reduced it, which feels positive at least.

gnat99 · 26/12/2015 23:11

Bluebell, I think the high risk begins at 1:150

We just had our results back today too and I am confused as well! It says
'screen negative
risk of Down's - 1:1100
Risk due to age alone - 1:50'

(I am 38)

But I don't know why they gave them separately - it's confusing as one is quite low but one is high! Does that mean our actual risk is somewhere between the two? Which seems like an overall low risk....Bluebell yours is even lower.

Of course there is always that one..

redstrawberries101 · 26/12/2015 23:13

Hope you feel better after a good nights sleep! I have come to stay at my mums for a few days as DH is full of the cold and didn't want me to catch it.

Had a strange day, my last two urine samples showed mixed growth but the pain in my left side was getting worse so I phoned NHS 24 (as my GP had recommended on Thursday when I last spoke to them) and was given an appt this afternoon. The out of hours doctor was lovely and phoned the microbiologists for advice who suggested I either take nitrofurantoin (which is sensitive to the multi resistant bug) or stay in hospital for the iv antibiotics that they suggested a couple weeks ago. They said my symptoms sounded upper urinary tract which would mean the nitrofurantoin wouldn't be effective as that only works in the bladder. They suggested speaking to obstetrics to get their advice. The doctor then phoned through to obstetrics and they said they would be happy to administer the iv antibiotics so they told me to to go around to that department. When I got there I saw a different consultant to the one the out of hours doctor had spoken to and she said my stats had improved since being seen initially, and her thoughts were that it would be overkill to take the iv antibiotics as it would mean 2 different ones and then the nitrufurantoin orally to take after. It would mean at least 3 days in hospital. She said she was happy to go down that route if I felt i needed to but I could just take the nitrofurantoin tablets and try them first. The reason my GP didn't prescribe these 3 weeks ago when this all started was because he thought they weren't suitable in the first trimester. She assured me they were so I decided to go down this route instead of the IV. She said I've to go back in if I don't feel better quickly (it should take 2 days at the most). I just wish my GP prescribed these in the first instance so that I wasn't in pain these last 3 weeks and feeling rubbish Sad on top of it all, because she was the obstetrics doctor she was unable to write a prescription to take away with me and took ages trying to locate the antibiotics. After about an hour and a half she finally came and said that I could collect them from the Hosp pharmacy tomorrow!

CultureSucksDownWords · 26/12/2015 23:19

Gnat, my understanding of those results is that your starting point for the risk was 1 in 50, due to age. After the scan and test, your actual risk has significantly reduced to 1 in 1100. That's exactly the result you want - your potential risk due to age has reduced markedly to a 1 in 1100 risk, hence the "negative" remark as well.

gnat99 · 26/12/2015 23:41

Thanks Culture, that sounds plausible. I've just spent a while looking online for answers, with partial success. Either way it's a relatively low result and I should just try not to worry. I will take the advice that's been given to Bluebell, and just go to bed now.

Melvali, I'm sorry you've been through all of that rigmarole with the doctors. At least the end result is that you won't have to spend 3 days in hospital, all going well. Hope the antibiotics start to help quickly.

I'm actually a bit worried today that I am starting a bladder infection. Am drinking copious amounts of water to try and flush it out. Why do these things always happen when you are away??

Kaytee, sorry to hear about your exasperating time with MiL. Hopefully she'll start behaving better soon. No one has had the cheek yet to touch my tummy except DH!

Kaytee1987 · 26/12/2015 23:58

I hope so gnat I don't know why people think it's okay to touch anyone's stomach, it's so intrusive. If she'd have asked I would have said no but she just reached out out of the blue. Tbh when you're already so nauseous you can hardly eat the last thing you want is your stomach being rubbed Sad
I've lost some weight in the past week and am now 2lbs lighter than I was when I found out I was pg, I'm sure this is normal due to nausea / sickness and I will put plenty on in 2nd trimester.
What culture said about test results sounds right so don't think you or bluebell either have anything to worry about Smile
