Walking, and Pilates after first trimester.

Woodsy81 · 07/12/2015 22:09

I was thinking swimming and Pilates but not till after 12 weeks. Been really unsure of doing anything since my scare last week. Feeling very lazy and know I am putting on more than baby weight. Sad

redstrawberries101 · 07/12/2015 22:09

Same bonxieSmile

Bonxie · 07/12/2015 22:14

I feel sort of 'resting irritated' Mel, really bizarre Smile

Bonxie · 07/12/2015 22:15

Unless that was a same to walking and Pilates!

gnat99 · 07/12/2015 22:29

Thistle - I understand your predicament! While less active than you, I am feeling really splodgy and lazy atm, from reduced exercise over the past 4 weeks. Dying to get scan and first trimester behind me, and to more exercise, but not sure what! Thinking swimming, walking, yoga and Pilates. I love running, but felt a bit odd after it last time so have stopped for now.

Loki, really pleased to hear how well you appointment went.

Cookies, that's maddening about your scan date! Think it is indeed outside the window for nuchal. Phone them up and argue your case.

Melvali, Missclarke and Bonxie, sorry to hear of your frustrating day!

I'm feeling very down as well as tired - a close friend is in middle of a custody trial, and it's not going well. Her ex abused her physically, psychologically and financially, and now he is accusing her (totally wrongly) of neglectful parenting. Seems he will stop at nothing to hurt her. I'm so sad that people like that can get away with so much in society, while someone like my friend, a hard working and devoted mother, can be failed by the system right when she most needs support and justice.

Sorry to bring the mood down, girls.

pulpi · 07/12/2015 22:41

Not to pile on with the urginess (as in everything makes me grunt URGH! At the world) we just got back from our quick trip to Madrid. MIL was excited but then spent the rest of the time complaining that we were only there for three days. Nevermind the fact that DH is finishing his lectures for this term or that I've got no energy and a schizophrenic stomach, she's the real martyr.

We were just trying to do something nice for her and it was nothing but negativity.

URGH!

Vikkijayne2507 · 07/12/2015 23:00

Can second all the exhaustion so tired mostly mornings, im going to start swimming in the new year not even going to try b4 12 weeks. Cant wait for scan on 21st, just want to have that ressurance, you can have the scan from week 11 to 12+6 weeks from what my obgyn said.

9 weeks today

julfin · 07/12/2015 23:21

Thistledew, I've looked up quite a bit of advice re exercise, and the conclusion I've drawn is that you should carry on doing the same amount as you normally do, for as long as you feel comfortable and are enjoying it. There is some advice out there saying you should only do moderate exercise, but I think that's aimed at people who normally have a lesser regime than yours. Basically you shouldn't be massively upping your regime whilst pregnant. Also you shouldn't do contact sports - which I'm afraid means ditching the bike in case you come off (but exercise bike is fine). So I'd recommend swapping the cycling for extra swimming or Pilates/yoga, or extra running if you're comfortable with that. Myself I'm going to try to stick with a 40 minute run maybe 3-4 times a week, for as long as I can, plus gym sessions (but gentle) a couple of times a week, and will switch to swimming later in the pregnancy if/when I need to. Will also take up pregnancy yoga in second trimester - not least because good way of meeting other pregnant ladies nearby. Enjoy your fitness - and let me know how you get on! BTW have you thought about those prams/buggies that are designed for running? I plan to look into that nearer the time.

julfin · 07/12/2015 23:23

And sympathies to all those ladies who are feeling rough or getting aggro Sad Hope it gets better soon.

redstrawberries101 · 08/12/2015 07:13

Pulpi that's so sad about your friend Sad some people in life just get it really tough and it's no fault of their own.

I salute you ladies who are planning exercise! I never managed much before the preg due to health issues but I am determined to try and do at least something so think walking and Pilates will be best.

Cookiesandcoffee · 08/12/2015 07:42

I hope your friend is ok gnat let's hope they see through his act. What a troubling time.
thistledew I agree with julfin with regards to exercise. Unless a doc has told you otherwise then you can carry on. I'm still teaching all the classes that I taught before. I haven't done as much exercise of my own because come the evenings I've been too exhausted and just collapsed on the sofa.
I think trekking to Madrid she should be more grateful pulpi!
Sorry everyone is feeling so crappy, I'm joining the misery sofa after my scan letter. I'm going to pluck up the courage to ring them and argue my corner after the school run...

Kaytee1987 · 08/12/2015 07:46

Thistle I've still been walking quite a lot, usually swim & cycle but I'm literally too tired just now :( it's all I can do to drag myself into work. Thankfully I've still not put any weight on so not too worried about exercise yet, hopefully get back to exercising in 2nd trimester xx

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 08/12/2015 07:59

Gnat thank you. I slept much better yay.

Loki jealous of your Bmi too mine is classed as overweight Sad

Cookies don't panic the nuchal fold can be done between 11+2 days and 14+1 day. My scan is at 13 weeks.

Thistle I have a few pregnancy exercise DVDs. I have Davinas which I will use in the third trimester as its pretty mild. One by Erin O'Brien which is pretty good and I've just bought Michelle Heatons one. It's split into three sections for each trimester. I'm going to try it today. I'm also doing lots of walking. I tried doing my usual Davina dvd but it gave me pains low down plus I'm too tired.

I'm only going into work for a little while today. I have loads to do Christmas prep wise and only have two clients in this morning. Plus I'm still shattered.

InsufficientlyCaffeinated · 08/12/2015 08:13

I plan on cycling for as long as I can still get my leg over the bar! Getting out for some fresh air on the bike is about the only thing keeping me sane at the moment, really helps with my anxiety & emotional overload. I wouldn't class it as a contact sport unless you're doing cyclocross or full-on MTB and barring whizzing down hills at super high speeds, the risk of falling is minimum, although balance can be affected so if you're feeling wobbly give it a miss.

Kaytee1987 · 08/12/2015 08:26

I plan to cycle still but only on the canal path where I feel safer, if I start to feel wobbly I will stop :) x

SunnyScot89 · 08/12/2015 08:44

The joys of having a dog means I'm still walking, although admittedly slower than before because I'm so tired. Did a bit of swimming a few weeks ago and hope to do more as I have more energy in the new year. My scan on Sunday went really well. We saw a little flicker of a heartbeat and everything seems to be positive. There was quite a large yolk sac but she said that was good for the baby, but probably the reason I've been feeling so lousy.
Got my first midwife appointment on Friday.
Other than tiredness the sickness has got better. Still feeling queezy at times, and smells are really affecting me, but at least I'm not puking every 10 mins like I was last week.
Hope everyone is feeling well today, struggle to keep up with all the chat on here but hugs to anyone who is needing them!

pulpi · 08/12/2015 08:58

Trying not to worry too much about the fact that my nausea hasn't left me hugging the bowl yet. More nausea generally means more hormones and a lower risk of miscarriage. Did the nausea all start in Week 6 for you ladies or did it come on more in Weeks 7 or 8?

I think I'm desperate for a sign that I'm really pregnant aside from the exhaustion and my stomach being rather indecisive about everything.

Am 7 weeks today.

Thistledew · 08/12/2015 09:36

Pulpi- I don't think it is necessarily true about more hormones equalling more nausea. One thing I learned after we told the parents I'm pregnant is that my mother didn't really suffer any adverse symptoms when she was pregnant. If that is something I have inherited from her, then I am truly grateful, and it makes up for the asthma, hay fever and other allergies I inherited from her as well!

passingcloud · 08/12/2015 09:53

Saying hello here! Sorry to everyone having a rubbish time and hurrah for the lovely things (like good scan pics).
I'm 7 + 4, a first timer. Already been to EPU at 6 wks after a couple of days of bleeding + cramps, stressful but all was fine. BUT a nurse who came to drop round some pills told me that I shouldn't be doing any exercise. AT ALL. Looking at the comments above...can that be right? Better safe than sorry I guess, but I don't know how I'm supposed to be getting through this period without my usual coping mechanisms ie running, yoga and wine (not simultaneously).
Oh and also I got home last night to find my dining room ceiling falling down with water coming through from bathroom above.
Since I definitely can't have the wine, can I definitely not have the exercise class either do you think...?

Cheery1 · 08/12/2015 09:53

Gnat - I'm so sorry for your friend. My wonderful cousin has been going through the mill with her ex for the last 5 years. He had an affair when she was pregnant with their second child and has just been horrendous through the divorce, continues to blame her for his mistakes. She's had to move to another city as he was so money grabbing in the divorce settlement. Recently he just took 3 months off work and went to find himself in the Himilayas with out consulting her leaving her with really upset kids and no support (he came back early as I don't think he liked what he found)! He is still saying he's got no money ( I mean, what?!), so she is doing a 7 hour round trip so the kids can see him. Worse thing is the kids think the sun shines out of his backside! It is so upsetting to see it all happening to someone you love, and it's so frustrating that these guys seem to get away with such cruel and unreasonable behaviour, especially when the relationship has been abusive. Makes me feel very grateful for my OH. Sending hugs to you, I know a bit how you must be feeling. All you can do is be supportive of you friend, bit of childcare to help out maybe and feel her how brilliant she is. If she's anything like my darling cuz, she still half believes what the awful ex says and we can help fight that at a least. xx

Cheery1 · 08/12/2015 10:01

Thistle and other ladies re exercise - I reckon it has to be an individual choice. I'm usually really active, I run about 25-30 miles a week, but after mc in April I just feel I need to take it a bit easier this time. There is NO evidence that there is a link between mc and running but I just didn't want to have anything to beat myself up with if god-forbid anything were to be wrong in this pregnancy. That is just me being super cautious. I have done lots of walking and a bit of swimming but tbh, I've had a stinking cold and felt so tired that I'm listening to my body and resting up this week! It's just this first trimester is such delicate time and I think do what ever you feel is right for how you feel, whether that's running, swimming or sitting on the sofa eating biscuits! I am undoubtedly putting on weight as my 'fairy' godmother told me at the weekend (that did make me chuckle Elizardo) but all being well, I'l get a bit more active once we've had a scan in the new year. Trying to be kind to myself basically.

Happy Tuesday lovely ladies Xmas Smile xx

Cheery1 · 08/12/2015 10:03

passingcloud - yup I feel your pain! I realise how much I rely on running out my stress not to mention how relaxing a lovely glass of red wine is (though tbh the smell of alcohol is turning my stomach at the mo). Walking, keeping busy and just giving in to putting your feet up are maybe some solutions! xx

Woodsy81 · 08/12/2015 10:04

Pulpi, I have had very very little nausea (only when I let my stomach get empty) and no desire to throw up at all. The only thing I have had is food aversions (can't eat any type of fish and I normally love fish, or coffee)and sometimes I just don't know what I want to eat. I really was convinced that lack of nausea was something to worry about. They only thing that has convinced me I'm pregnant is the scan I had at EPU last week. :) Try not to stress and enjoy the lack of nausea. Listening to all the ladies on here who have been really suffering, I now realise how lucky I have been.

I weighed myself this morning and I have lost 2 lbs. What's that about? My stomach looks like I have put on about 10 lbs. I am quite relieved. Was starting to feel quite big.

Hope everyone is OK today. xx

Cheery1 · 08/12/2015 10:05

P.S. I wouldn't do classes if a nurse has advised not to. Can you swim? I'd check with your EPU, but I've been told swimming is actually good for pregnancy……x
