Try not to worry MShip, the bump measurements are notoriously inaccurate! Hope you get your scan soon and I'm sure all will be well.

I've got my 28 week appointment tomorrow, at my 25 week one I was measuring bang on but I've a feeling I will be measuring ahead now as the bump seems to have got huge in the last couple of weeks!

hayleycookie · 15/12/2015 12:39

Thanks Vroc I hadn't thought about what I was going to eat after. Dreading not eating til it's over! I usually wake up really hungry and feel sick if I don't eat, so that should be fun.
Trinpy good idea! I'll be heading to my mums after, and it should finish about 12 so I might ask for a big lunch too. GTT high five for us!
Pavlova I had a slight return of morning sickness but it only last a week max then disappeared as suddenly as it returned. Fingers crossed it goes the same for you!

hayleycookie · 15/12/2015 12:43

Cross posted!

Mship I wouldn't worry just yet! It could just be that you have a lot of water or something. At least they have picked it up and are acting fast to get you all checked out. Like me said, bump measurements are notoriously inaccurate. My antenatal clinic has introduced a new software to help with measuring because the bump alone isn't accurate enough. Let us know when you get your scan date. FX everything is ok :)

vroc81 · 15/12/2015 13:18

MShip hope they get you in quick to stop you worrying, I'm sure it will all be fine - bump measurements are often out and my colleagues wife just had similar and has just had a couple of extra checks.

hayley I felt sick for not eating this morning thats why I had a little something to warn my stomach that lunch was coming as soon as I was back at my desk.. I only had to fast from 10pm though so better than if you have to start at 8pm the night before as I had a mince pie and coffee at 9:30 last night!

Also had my Anti-D injection afterwards so one arm is resembling a pin cushion..

neh205 · 15/12/2015 13:32

What is GTT ladies?

vroc81 · 15/12/2015 13:34

Glucose tolerance test.. Check for gestational diabetes, I have to have it because of a high BMI and a family history of people with diabetes.. In fact I had it at booking in too but normally its left to 28 weeks.

hayleycookie · 15/12/2015 13:48

Oh good thinking vroc. I'll pack a cereal bar for the drive home to warn my stomach it's going to get fed. Are you allowed to drink anything in the 3 hour wait besides the glucose drink at the start? My fast starts from 10pm too so I'll be wolfing down everything until 9.59 lol

Neh I've got to have the GTT because my DS was born so heavy. I have no history of diabetes anywhere in my family, but they have to test anyone has a baby over a certain weight just to make sure it doesn't develop during pregnancy.

TheMshipIsBack · 15/12/2015 14:37

Thanks, all. The scan will be late afternoon tomorrow, which I'd already booked off, so at least no worries about re-arranging meetings at work at the last minute.

marmiteandcheeseplease · 15/12/2015 15:00

Glad you managed to get an appt quick Mship. I'm sure you'll be fine, as others have said, the measurements are quite inaccurate.

me you might be surprised about your measurement tomorrow... I was sure I was going to be measuring large as am carrying so low and out the front and so huge that people are commenting left right and centre about how pregnant I look.. but I turned out to be measuring only 27.5cm which is actually a little under! I think the way I am carrying my bump looks big but when they measure you, you lie down and they are really just interested in how high your uterus is (which is quite different than shape of bump/fat etc).

ffaux a little late, sorry, but I'm sorry for your loss. Hope your DH is coping ok Flowers

vroc81 · 15/12/2015 15:15

Thats great they can fit you in Mship fingers crossed all goes well! Ive got a feeling I'm going to get it the other way when i have my appointment on Thursday - I'm still in my normal jeans - although this might be the last week or two - but is that normal? My DH is like you can see there is a bump when you look at you but people that know keep commenting on how small it is... I'm sure its all relative and she just had a lot of room to hide but its making me a bit paranoid!

ffauxlivia · 15/12/2015 18:17

Hi all,

Thanks for the well wishes re. DH cousin, and the good luck vibes. Thankfully my little bub's heart was normal today and everything with her looked fine, so so so relieved!

The only issue is that they are still worried about my placenta as it's still only 1cm away from cervix (anterior). So have to have yet another scan in 6 weeks and if it still hasn't moved then we might have to discuss c-sections :( I read up a bit on the internet about the dangers of bleeds with low placentas etc and freaked out a bit, but there's still time for it to move so staying positive!

Also they do pre-GTT screening for everyone here and I failed the screen - just marginally but now I have to have the three hour test next week - wah! I'll never be out of that office - they have booked me in for GTT next week, then appts at 28 weeks, 30 weeks and 32 weeks!

mship fingers crossed for you, and everyone else with growth scans. Hopefully it's all just unreliable bump measurements - they do seem to be notorious for that!

IndomitabIe · 15/12/2015 18:47

vroc, this is a risky post, please know I'm trying to be sensitive and don't mean any offence! I wouldn't normally comment on appearance, but...

You've mentioned a high BMI and having to go to 'fat clinic'. Depending on your size & shape it might not be a worry that you've only got a small bump. A friend of mine is about a size 20 and it was tricky to spot a bump even right at the end. To the trained eye, and when compared (e.g. In a pic) to her usual shape it was identifiable, but she (and I hope she wouldn't be offended) has a significant bosom and I think the belly-to-boob ratio provides a bit of a benchmark in bump-spotting. I'm not casting aspersions on your size or shape, but offering a potential explanation?

I'm normally in the two-fried-eggs-on-an-ironing-board club, so belly appeared more prominent earlier.

It's weird/sad that even in pregnancy we're conditioned, as women, to want/expect/strive for a certain body shape - that perfect not-pregnant-from-the-back, perpetual ~25 week tidy-bump throughout (remember the chubby-belly stage around 12 weeks, and we've still got the 'holy-moly' gigantic stage to come!).

As someone else said, the midwife should be able to measure the height of your uterus when you're lying down, which bears almost no resemblance to how well it can be spotted through clothes.

Sorry, I fear I drifted off-topic there! But it's an interesting topic to explore (that despite the wonderous things our bodies are doing, we are still subject to physical scrutiny and, often implicit, body shaming).

Trinpy · 15/12/2015 19:08

Ok, finally managed to get one of the scan pictures of here! Sorry the quality is rubbish, I had to take a photo of it on my phone and it wasn't easy! Everything is looking normal and healthy, which is a relief and baby is head down now. He was all snuggled up with his hands up by his face. It was lovely seeing his tiny fingers moving and I've got a picture of him doing a huge yawn too Smile.

I'm really pleased to hear that everything is looking good with the baby ffaux. I hope your placenta rises enough over the next few weeks.

maybebabybee · 15/12/2015 19:29

Gorgeous pic trinpy!

Mship fx for you but sure all will be well Flowers

Missikat · 15/12/2015 19:29

Hi ladies hope you're all well. It's really hard to keep up these days with hospital trips daily and looking after DS!

Ffaux, really glad to hear the teary issue is fine now and fingers crossed your placenta moves, my friends did at about 30 weeks so there's still time!

Marmite, your midwife sounds a nightmare! I would also have not been happy had one been commenting on my stretch marks. I hope your DD gets a bit more settled soon and that you get some sleep!

I'm just on my way out for dinner on public transport to get drunk!!! Yey! Just arrived I'll finish this message when I get home!! Xxx

vroc81 · 15/12/2015 19:41

indom no offence taken! You are quite right if I was a size 8 not a 16 my bump would not hide.. I'm also quite tall so the midwife said at 24 weeks there is plenty of space for her to get comfortable, I think I was just convinced I was going to turn into a ball or something so to still be in my normal jeans without any noticeable weight gain has just surprised me a lot, especially when I got the doom letters from the fat clinic about how much weight I was going to gain etc...

I shouldn't joke as much about fat club though as appreciate it might be useful for some and don't mean to offend anyone if they've been sent I think it's just a default for our trust to recommend it and I think my BMI might not reflect I'm quite active and busy... my DSis who is similar in size to me, except she got the boobs!! was the same and didn't really ever get a bump.

Sorry you can all remind me of this when I'm complaining I can't see me feet?!!

Glad everything was well with the baby ffaux and your placenta gets on the move up!

Can't believe how well you can see everything trinpy glad all is ok with him!

vroc81 · 15/12/2015 19:53

missi have a good evening and have one for me Wink

dobbythedoggy · 15/12/2015 20:56

ffaux so pleased you've got the all clear from your scan. Fingers crossed your placenta moves up, waiting to see if mine moves up enough to attempt vbac with bump. Mine was a little higher than yours almost 2cm away from cervix, at 22+6. In the nhs trust I'm under has a policy to rescan at 36 weeks to check vaginal delivery is safe.

mishap hope the scan brings lots of reassurance and the wait isn't too hard.

indom it is a really intresting topic, a friend of mine really glowed when she was pregnant but was a size 16 when she concieved. She seemed to go from looking normal to suddenly being giant in the last couple of months. Feel awful for her now when she compares herself to much smaller mums to be who have bumpy bumps and all she can say is she looked like a beached whale (and still says she does, with her 4 week old).

marmite your new midwife sounds horriable! Very lucky with mine and the hospital I'm under. My surgery has 3 midwives based there and they are all lovely. So far I've always seen my named midwife, the same one I had with dd for every appointment. She was away once when I was pregnant with dd and I had a phone call from the midwife covering before hand to warn me and introduce herself. She was really good at getting the student with her to introduce herself too. Even at the hospital they make a real effort to get you in to see the same the consultant or same memeber of his staff, be seen by the same maternity assistant and sonographa and are really applogetic if they can't.

trinpy what a lovely picture. Making it much harder for me to resist taking up my great uncle's offer to pay for one for us!

missi hope you have a lovely time, you really deserve it!

Can't remember who asked about the gtt. I had to fast from 10pm, allowed to drink water but nothing else. For me the drink was awful, litterally a thick gritty sugar water, had 5 mins to drink it, then no water until after the second blood test. I took breakfast bars to wolf down the second I could. Greasy food is meant to help after, it did with dd, but this time around it took a few days to actually feel like I could eat normally. Also wanted to do nothing but sleep after the gtt this time. Results were fine both times!

Had a busy few days here, 100 mile round trip to get measured for a maternity bra, worth it but agonising with the unwelcome return of morning sickness. Dd had two christmas parties yesterday and we're working a production line to make lots of 'adult' chocolate buttons for christmas gifts. All but one of my christmas gifts have been solved by them, easy but look amazing. Need to find time one evening to make christmas pudding fudge. Still have the headache of dh's granddad to buy for; he doesn't do sweets or chocolates!

IndomitabIe · 15/12/2015 20:59

Beautiful pic Trinpy! Glad all is good!

And glad you're all good too Ffaux.

Vroc, I really do hope you're not just being polite! I saw a brilliant article in the Guardian the other day by Susie Orbach which talked about (amongst other things) the notion that "overweight" doesn't necessarily equate to less healthy (and "normal" or low BMI doesn't necessarily indicate good health/fitness, as I continue to demonstrate!). I get that the NHS is playing a numbers game, but really a GP should be able to identify a person's state of health using more than the number on a scale. I hope we get past this weight/appearance thing as a society in my children's lifetimes.

Missi, glad to hear you're doing well! (I'm making the assumption that if you're on a night out then all is probably well with Zach!)

I've just got back from yoga. I am so unbelievably weak! And I thought this relaxin hormone was supposed to make you bendier? I'm so incredibly stiff! Getting back in shape (there we go again with the need to fit the societal norm) is going to be such a mission! (I'm not doing it for society, I'm doing it because I don't want to buy new clothes! )

2 more days of school to go!

IndomitabIe · 15/12/2015 21:05

Dobby "She seemed to go from looking normal to suddenly being giant in the last couple of months" I think this happens to most people! But most people go on leave and disappear for the last few weeks so we see people breezing off before they become completely incapacitated.

I know I felt like Violet Beauregarde by the end of it last time! (This time I'm planning on sharing the horror as I work right up to my die date!)

IndomitabIe · 15/12/2015 21:06

*due date (I swear I already corrected that once!)

neh205 · 15/12/2015 22:36

missi glad you're doing well. Have fun!

Thanks for the GTT explanations all!

trinpy such a gorgeous pic! I'm def going to have a 3d scan now !

ffaux so so pleased for you, that's great news! Hope everything else goes well.

Missikat · 15/12/2015 23:25

Trinpy he is indeed a gorgeous boy! He looks like he's got great lips!

I've had a fab night out thanks, just me, two great girl friends and cocktails plus two bottles of wine....just what I needed...I will be pumping and dumping when I get home! I guess this is one small advantage of having already delivered in that I can get drunk and not feel guilty!

Vroc I was a 16 pre delivery too, no one mentioned to me about BMI etc, maybe they should have done.

Ffaux that should have been 'heart' issue not teary issue. Hope all is well and sorry to hear about your DH cousin.

We are doing fine. Zach is still a trooper, he's finally gone above his birth weight to 852g (just under 2lb). He has taken a few steps back in his breathing and is now on bi-phasic CPAP which is giving him more support and pressure with his breathing (although still nothing like being on a ventilator). He is taking 10ml of my milk every 2 hours. They had to drop him down from 12ml every 2 as he was being really sick. I am so tired of the 4am pumping alarm so have decided at least once a week I will treat myself to a full nights sleep! My milk supplies are that good I'm hoping it won't impact on them.

We are getting daily cuddles with Zach which is amazing but I still a bit envious of all your pregnancy stories...I wish he was still in there with me rather than 20 miles away.

Thinking of you all and wishing you all happy healthy pregnancies xxx

ffauxlivia · 16/12/2015 01:59

missi thank you for the update - always lovely to hear from you. I can't imagine how hard it is to leave him in the hospital every day, puts any pregnancy moans we have into perspective! So good that his weight is increasing and you're getting daily cuddles. Really glad that you got to have a night out too, I imagine your body will need to de-stress. Wishing Zach strong and healthy days ahead!

trinpy I agree with missi he does have lovely lips - what a great pic!

indom I hear you - we're growing a whole new person inside us and it should be the one time where we don't have any pressure to conform to an ideal, and it makes me so sad that women are made to feel less than perfect.

Thanks dobby here's hoping we both get good news at the next scans! I did read that the vast majority move away in the later weeks so fingers crossed !

Me624 · 16/12/2015 06:37

Great pic Trinpy! I'm thinking about a 3D scan but not sure when I can fit it in!

It sounds like Zach is doing as well as can be missi. It must be awful to have to leave him constantly and also try and juggle your DS1. I think you definitely deserved a night out with a few drinks!

I'm a bit annoyed with DH. He's off today so I asked him if he wanted to come to my 28 week appointment with me. He was in a bit of a grump anyway and said that no he didn't see the point as nothing really happens at the midwife ones. He's right, but he's only going to be sitting around at home while I'm there and I just feel like he could show a bit more interest!
