Morning all! V quick question - I was 28 weeks yesterday & weighed myself this morning. Haven't put on any weight in the last week. Do you think that's bad? So far it's been 8/9kg put on? Should I just keep an eye on it this week? I'm sure I read somewhere that gain should be steady towards end? Thank you x

haquoi123 · 09/11/2015 07:43

Morning all! isla fingers crossed you can see someone today.

I have to admit I had to ask DH what quim meant!

Heading off on Maternity leave at 34 weeks - that's when the school holidays start so I'd be finishing work then anyway, just not going back.

27 weeks (last sat)! And got my 28 week midwife appointment today. Eurgh, slept so badly last night, kept dreaming I was going into labour and waking up

Hi everyone

Welcome to the thread Annika [tea]

How did you find your NCT classes Jelly? We had our first NHS one on Saturday. I didn't really learn anything new (other than about a website called 'spinning babies' that the midwife recommended), but it was good for OH to hear from a medical professional what sort of stuff happens to pregnant women (so he can't ignore me when I whinge about my itchy piles Blush)

Sorry to hear about your diabetes isla but at least they've picked it up and can keep an eye on you.

Ratty I had a similar concern a couple of weeks ago but the ladies here were very reassuring about this - it is more important that your bump is growing in line with the rate of gestation than what particular weight you are in a given week, as weight is made up of so many things, not just the baby.

I weighed myself this morning and I'm the same weight as 2 weeks ago. DH says my face looks slimmer recently so I think everything is redistributing itself towards the bump. I definitely put it down to not drinking during pregnancy. Wine = The Munchies = cheese and crackers at 9pm = more calories than strictly necessary.

MaryEllen my mat leave is due to start on my EDD and I've agreed with my boss that I'll book 2 weeks annual leave beforehand in order to finish up at 38 weeks, but if feel up to it, I can give back the first week and finish at 39 weeks (so the office is prepared for me going at 38 weeks). Obviously if the baby comes early, all bets are off! However, I'm playing the odds and assuming I'll go over my EDD.

Just noticed mumsnet has a [santa] smiley. Too early? Discuss.

haquoi123 · 09/11/2015 09:27

clara, I'm doing a twice-weekly gig at a UK holiday resort and they want us doing Christmas carols already! It's a money earner so I'm not complaining!

I've just had a look on Gumtree and found the pram I really want. Is paying money outright on Gumtree a no no? They recommend transferring goods face to face but this is Leeds & Cumbria.

Bubs is swishing against my stomach and making it rumble...

12st 2lbs this morning, so a 14lbs gain over 26 weeks. I predict another 14-28lbs over the last trimester for me, thats my usual. Most of which will be the baby, placenta, amniotic fluid and fat stores the body points down for breastfeeding. Also water retention. I sweat A LOT after birth. Anyone else do that or is it just me?!

My 2 natural labours were at 39+3 so guessing 12th Feb here and my 3rd Thursdays child! DC1 is a Tuesday born (39+3) and DC2 was induced a few weeks early so I dont factor her in my totally not whacky random prediction Grin

Sighing · 09/11/2015 11:02

Oh yes. I sweat a hell of a lot after birth. The sweltering conditions of the maternity wards are no great help!

Sighing · 09/11/2015 11:07

Weight. I have put on 0.7 kg since my second weigh in for pregnancy. I lost in the first trimester and so this gain doesn't quite take me back to my original weight.
My bump seems to be measuring fine and growing. My boobs are bigger. My thighs wobblier. I have not a clue where this growing bump is coming from Hmm. Weight is a very strange thing, even weirder in pregnancy. As long as the bump is growing sensibly and you appear to have some energy and no GD I don't think the midwife will be too concerned!

RattyCatty · 09/11/2015 11:19

Thank you ladies - reassuring!

haquoi I would edge on the side of caution of paying before you have seen it? Just in case?

MaisieDotes · 09/11/2015 11:25

I don't think you have to gain weight at a certain pace- I know that women with a certain BMI can be advised not to gain any weight during pregnancy.

Personally I'd be happy to plateau for a couple of weeks. I think I put on a lot between about week 22 and now. Although DS has done something to the weighing scales so I'm not sure. I've an appointment with the midwife tomorrow so I'll ask her to weigh me.

Had to get my anti-D this morning so I'm just on the way home now. My arm is already more sore than it was with the flu jab, although I think I was very lucky in that the flu jab barely affected me at all.

Posey01 · 09/11/2015 11:43

I've put on just over a stone...so about 7kg I think?! Mine has gone to my bump and thighs! I've only been weighed once at the start...and am doing body conditioning and spin at the gym...but I am eating more because I'm more relaxed at the mo (being pg) and I like it eek! Seems we are all different.

haquoi123 · 09/11/2015 11:52

Thanks ratty, I think I'll stick to my plan of waiting until the Jan sales.

Had my 28 week appointment today - I jumped when she tried to take bloods and ruined the hole, so she did the other arm and exactly the same thing happened. Tried the first arm again and 3rd time's a charm. Covered in plasters! Everything is progressing well though and he's a happy bubba, head down and back to my right side. I was so proud! :)

yay for cooperative baby hacquoi! Also loving your gig plans! My friend last year got a 6 week stint on a cruise ship playing trombone in the house band in November & December. He said after that he lost any love he may have had for christmas songs. Oh dear...

jellypi3 · 09/11/2015 13:45

clara nct was OK, there's 6 sessions so hoping to bond with the mums there. A bit hippy dippy but interesting.

Kittyfrickle · 09/11/2015 15:51

Hey, I'm new to MN. I'm 26+3 weeks with my first and due 12th of February. I'm having a girl Grin

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 09/11/2015 16:27

Hi kitty , welcome.

Nappy pails arrived today! Along with my change bag... Which I have started packing as babys hospital bag Blush I'm scrapping the home birth. After being told that in an emergency I'd be transfered to the hospital that caused my birth trauma/subsequent PTSD, it will be a cold day in Hell before I give them an opportunity to do that again. Even more so after recent reports of the conditions there. I'd rather drive 40 mins to the fabulous hospital where I had DDs and risk giving birth in the car.

jellypi3 · 09/11/2015 16:40

aww till that's crap :( but at least you get your preferred hospital eh!

i'm going to start the hospital bag next week when we have moved!! :) any recommendations on changing bags?

NorthernChinchilla · 09/11/2015 17:36

I sweated loads Till, but isn't that exacerbated by having a section as in my case? First two weeks the bedclothes were rather damp each morning Good call on the hospital, do they have a birthing unit that's set up for water/homebirth style?

Think this [santa] is the sign for the MN secret santa thingy clara, there was a thread on Site Stuff about it. Think it looks bloody odd and reminds me of the brass band in Dr Who that turns out to be killer robot aliens in one of the Xmas specials!!

Hello kitty!

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 09/11/2015 18:22

northern no idea re:csec sweats as ive not had one, but i spent a good fortnight drenched in sweat with all 3 DC, the worst was my July born! i was mostly wearing nursing bras and shorts for weeks Grin

i get newborn cuddles tomorrow morning!

Rufus200 · 09/11/2015 20:40

Looks like I'm another one on their way to GD. Just did my blood glucose after dinner and it was 8.1 before any sweets! I'm high risk anyway with PCOS. Got my 28 week appt tomorrow so will discuss then.

IslaMann · 09/11/2015 20:44

How long after dinner Rufus? Did you wait an hour?

MaryEllen1 · 09/11/2015 21:29

Hi kitty!

Thanks everyone for all the maternity leave info! Am gonna go off at 38 weeks but take 2 weeks annual leave! That's the plan anyway can always revise it nearer the time I guess!

Rufus200 · 09/11/2015 21:38

Isla It was about 1 hr after eating. I will test again before bed, before breakfast and after breakfast, then seeing Dr at lunchtime tomorrow.

jellypi3 · 09/11/2015 21:44

Has anyone started getting leaky boobs yet? My book says it starts about now for some people but I couldn't imagine mine leaking

MaisieDotes · 09/11/2015 22:02

jelly I find some colostrum there in the morning when I shower. Just a tiny bit but it's been going on for ages now, since about 14 weeks or so.

Sighing · 09/11/2015 22:18

Jellypi: mine don't leak, but there are specks / dried grains of colostrum trapped in my nipples now. I can spend a few minutes removing them every day. Glamorous it's not. I had this during 1st trimester when boobs were very sore. I breastfed both my current DD and only leaked when my milk first came in properly with DD1. Leaking / non leaking bears no relevance to how well they work!
