I love big band clumsy, would love to play that. I play in a community brass streetband. Basically, anything goes! A bit of funk, soul, pop and jazz.

Pretty sure one of the first purchases we'll need to make for the baby is some ear defenders!

MaryEllen1 · 04/11/2015 11:40

Had my 24 week midwife appt today, all well and she had a good feel of my stomach and listened to heartbeat said they will start the measuring at my next appt.

Have taken today off work to rest and try and get rid of this damn cold.

Hugs to all those suffering with colds, pains and sickness

clumsypots · 04/11/2015 11:43

That sounds awesome clara! I wouldn't worry about ear defenders the day after dd was born my exp was doing trumpet practice, my ddad was fixing something with a hammer and my dm was hoovering, she slept through it I was the one that needed the ear defenders!

clarabellski · 04/11/2015 14:25

Ugh I just ate around 15 chocolate covered brazil nuts and think I'm going to be sick....

My self control is totally gone. I'm blaming it on the baby...Blush

XingXingFox · 04/11/2015 15:51

Loving all the musical chat. Sadly I can't play a note, but signing up my DD for music lessons from Jan which I'm excited about. Pushy mum! I love that story hacquoi hopefully we'll have some musical babies next year!

So rubbish darth poor you. Amazing you start mat leave so soon but sorry your boss is being annoying. Really hope you feeling better after the iron tablets kick in. I had a blood test last week and urine test (have to have it every time as diabetes runs in family). It basically showed I hadn't been eating enough, despite putting on two stone and a cupcake a day and they wanted to rush me into hospital that day. I managed to convince them that I shouldn't go as feel fine. They have repeated the tests on Monday and today, but haven't heard back from the lab yet, hopefully all okay but I'll be very surprised if I don't have an iron deficiency too. All good with the baby though and I'm measuring a week ahead for dates - eek!

I booked my flu jab for Monday. I hadn't even heard of it and only because of being on here I know about it! Does anyone know if I have to have whooping cough again as I had it last time?

It's amazing hearing how active these babies are! I only have the lightest of flutterings, looking forward to more.

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 04/11/2015 16:48

xing xing I have no idea re:whooping cough, but knowing the way it works, I would probably say yes, you need it again, as the protection is for the baby, and it might not be enough that you had it before, if that makes any sense?! A bit like the boosters my DD had this week! Obviously I could also be talking total bolleaux haha!

I have a MW coming to check me at 8:30am tomorrow, baby has been very inactive the last 48 hours and I've tried the usual tricks (well versed in them after DC2s pregnancy) and only the lightest of flutterings.

Music I thought my DDad was going to brain me when he attempted to teach me guitar (of which he is a master) I am right handed. But I play guitar left handed. So he restrung the guitar for me. And then I made it him put it back, because I couldn't form the chords with the strings the right way up Blush awkward cow DH is a bass, guitar and drum player, and a half decent singer. DD who is 7 is currently having violin lessons, free via school, but I am considering some private tuition if she decides she really likes it.

More organising shopping for me today.

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252037240667

^I wish that had been around when I had previous DCs! Ordered one this afternoon, as well as their polka dot change bag. Looks huge and can be carried different ways, an absolute steal at £28.

FuzziBunz have a massive sale on their nappies at the minute, so picked up 7 of those for a mere £35, and some basic terry flats with nappi nippas from twinkleontheweb. DH has nipped to Tesco to pick up my Click and Collect order... Lots of white babygrows coming my way! Grin

In crap news, my Uncles DP was rushed back into hospital yesterday with sky high blood pressure (she had a c section last week and was released after 24 hours Shock but that hospital is a chop shop... Its so bad they've been given 3 months to make drastic improvements or be shut down!) Just waiting to hear from DGM about whats happened today, she seemed a bit confused and really upset last night Sad

Rufus200 · 04/11/2015 20:15

Arrow hope your Uncle's DP is OK.

My nausea seemed to be due to the lack of sleep but did last most of the morning. I think I have the start of my 1st stretch mark, it is a thick short red line amongst all my broken capillaries on the side of my bump. Worse then that though my belly button seems to have collapsed and now looks like a puckered cat's arse, lovely!

I bought myself a besafe for my car seat belt as I couldn't get it to stay under my bump. I bought the cheaper one with no isofix attachments as I realised no UK cars have isofixes in the front seats and I never sit in the back so would have been a complete waste to buy the more expensive one. DH tried it and managed to hurt himself, to which I pointed out it isn't for boys!

clumsypots · 04/11/2015 20:16

xing the midwife told me the whooping cough jab was protection for the baby Before they had their own jabs so I think you will need to have it again.

till I hope the midwife goes ok in the morning

XingXingFox · 04/11/2015 20:59

Thanks everyone....am booking in for the jab, you're all right it's for the baby...

Am now on spatone and blood sugars seem to have regulated thankfully. Am quite into the idea of a home birth now so don't want anything to wreck that (unless of course they need to on the day!)

goneswimming · 04/11/2015 21:28

Has anyone done any looking into carseats whose advice I can ask for? We're thinking about a maxi cosi milofix, which is birth to 18kg and should therefore last baby til he's four, rather than a pebble or something which will need replacing (and a another base of course!) much sooner. On the downside the milofix isn't travel system compatible so it stays in the car, but for the price it would last us so much longer, and I'd prefer baby to be in the pram rather than in a clipped on car seat when we're out anyway. What do you think?

Tiredoftiredness · 05/11/2015 07:52

Only thing I'd say about clipped in seats is that when baby falls asleep in the car (I.e. Every journey!) we found it really usefl to be able to bring in the whole seat so ds could nap for a few mins. Although we never used it on a pram it was great for not disturbing naps and also putting in the trolley for a quick trip round the shops without baby screaming!

monkerina · 05/11/2015 08:06

Hello everyone! Been a while...

Gone, we've bought a Hauck Variogaurd car seat- similar to the MaxiCosi one, it's not travel system compatible but lasts to 4 years. I do wish it was lift-out-able but I figure my mum never had one, I slept in the car all the time and she coped with getting me out... and we don't use the car that often anyway. How's your mum getting on? Mine had a biopsy about 3 weeks ago for a growth in her uterus, which thankfully turned out just fine- hopefully your situation will be just as positive Smile

Does anyone else find that baby has busy days and quiet days? I think it's just the way he's positioned, but it's quite disconcerting when you're told to learn his patterns and he doesn't bloody have any!

clarabellski · 05/11/2015 09:11

Hi again monke that's relieving news about your mum. I experience busy and quiet days. The busy days it is going radio rental in there (usually when I'm trying to concentrate on something important in work). On quiet days there is still some movement though (the classic 'at least 10 movements in 2 hours' trick). I have not had any quiet days that have made me worry yet, thankfully.

I need to sort out our car seat. My brother has given me his old maxi cosi one but I don't know which model it is and it needs a base to go on. I just can't be bothered dealing with it though (from what I've read on mumsnet it is a bit of a confusing minefield) - I stuck it up the loft for now!!!

Whoknewitcouldbeso · 05/11/2015 14:08

monk the baby was crazy busy on Tuesday. Pretty much booting me all day, evening and night. Yesterday and today pretty quiet. Don't know what that's all about, I can only put it down to a growth spurt.

Just been to the hospital for an audio test for my three year old. One of the ladies there had a beautiful round bump, I asked how far she was along to find out we were due a week apart. I have zero bump by comparison, I feel such a fraud. I know I was the same with DS but I can't help feel worried I should be showing more.

Sighing · 05/11/2015 14:50

Whooping cough is on the rise in the UK, so it is being recommended for pregnant women to.pass on immunity before the first jabs at two months.

haquoi123 · 05/11/2015 15:01

How was it with the midwife till?

gone we were thinking the same thing but realised we're actually in and out of the car all the time and it would be better to have bubs easily portable. We found a seat, kiddy evolution pro 2, that can switch between lie flat (for prams) and normal for the car, so we're going with that instead of carry cot.

Eurgh, just got off the phone with the maternity allowance people (after I spent half an hour trying to find the right number) and DH can't have any paternity leave and isn't eligible for shared parental leave either as he's self employed. And they count the keeping touch days as a full day regardless of how long you work for, which is useless for me as I work hourly (also self employed) and have to keep in touch with more than one employer! Eurgh, it's so frustrating! I pay tax, so does DH, yet we're not entitled to anything employed people are entitled to!

mawsy are you around? Hope the house situation isn't getting you down too much.

Did you get your anti-D this week? I've to get mine on Mon.

MamaBerg · 05/11/2015 17:25

jelly and haquoi and anyone else with the fanjo pain. I know its hard but really try to concentrate on walking without waddling. This is the single thing the physio told me that has made a huge difference in such a short time. She told me to think of having a glass of water on each shoulder and not spilling any. I still get pains at night when I roll but it is improving.

haquoi123 · 05/11/2015 17:56

Ah that's useful, thanks mama! I can walk without waddling but it's takes concentration so I've not been doing it that much. Will do from now on!

Mawsymoo · 05/11/2015 18:39

Hi maisie yes I had the anti-d yesterday. You go into the SP clinic, turn left, then right at the end of the corridor and it's the last door on the left. They only do around 6 a day so knock on the door and she'll probably bring you straight in. The SP clinic was really busy when I was there but you don't have to queue.

If you hold your own chart make sure you bring it. The hospital hold mine so she had to go off hunting for it. But overall it was fairly quick. She took my bloods while I was there as I haven't had them done since 12 weeks. And that was it!

The house stuff is still a nightmare - we're all back living with my parents at the moment Shock

MaisieDotes · 05/11/2015 20:52

Oh ok cheers mawsy . I've to get my mother to mind DS so I was hoping it was an in-and-out thing.

They've only brought in the pre-birth anti-D recently, I didn't have to get it with DS last year. Just the post-birth one.

I really hope you get some progress on the house front soon. Are you still looking for a rental property?

Mawsymoo · 05/11/2015 21:00

Yeah I asked the nurse yesterday - it started in May. Hopefully you get in and out quickly.

We're still hoping for our purchase to go through so hopefully this will be a short-term solution!

MaisieDotes · 05/11/2015 21:13

Fingers very tightly crossed for you! Smile

I'm sure you're dying to get into nesting mode!

Tiredoftiredness · 05/11/2015 22:24

Can anyone recommend somewhere to buy a "nice" but cheap maternity dress? Away for my birthday in a few weeks and with Christmas parties etc coming up want something but really struggling- have tried new look, asos, debenhams...where am I missing?!

IslaMann · 05/11/2015 22:47

tired look at George (asda) on line. I got a lovely lace dress for a December wedding, and for Xmas day, for £20.
