calypso I had a 24 wk app with GP and no measuring x

MamaBerg · 26/10/2015 12:55

It seems to depend of if you are seen by a midwife or a GP. Where I live it is all done by midwives and seems to be a lot more cohesive than what I have heard from friends and family living in other areas.

Sighing · 26/10/2015 17:02

Thanks all. I am now holed up with my girls treating them to far too many treats after being complete angels on the 4 hour drive. I've soaked in the hotel bath (it's huuuuge). It all seems much better now! I am considering asking her to replace the 'basic set' and then seeing what's out there. Thanks for the tip re second hand. An excuse to start baby shopping Shock

goneswimming · 26/10/2015 20:57

MaryEllen that stash sounds awesome! I really want a Chicco....

Rufus200 · 26/10/2015 22:06

MaryEllen I'm going to keep an eye on eBay incase someone bought multiples to sell on.

goneswimming · 26/10/2015 22:07

Ooh Rufus I might end up bidding against you!

MaryEllen1 · 26/10/2015 22:20

That's a good idea rufus, also worth a look on Amazon as some people sell on there. I got mine from the babies r us stand and they did have an extra 15% off if you signed up to their loyalty card so could look on their website? Don't want you and goneswimming going head to head on eBay l Smile

NorthernChinchilla · 27/10/2015 07:48

I was going to suggest a compromise like that sighing, and I definitely think she should get something (and be very bloody contrite)!
I had my bump measured when I was checked out by the hospital, could of weeks ahead, but at this early stage it's even more hit and miss.

Got the 'pregnancy chair' from work, very fancy, soooo many levers, but bright fuchsia! It's to stop people half-inching it, but really. I am not a pink person, don't suit fuchsia, and will be taking in a throw! Just hope it stops the hobbling though...

birdbrain21 · 27/10/2015 07:49

I bought a chicco next to me second hand off facebook but it's in perfect condition. My dd would only sleep on me or next to me holding my finger which was really uncomfortable so really hoping this will be a good solution would have loved one last time!
Anyone else can't be bothered for work? I do love teaching but at themoment it just seems like I have a never ending amount of stuff to do busy all day and then come home and continue school work nothing else is getting done! Really counting down to maternity leave!!!!

clarabellski · 27/10/2015 09:16

I feel ya Birdbrain!

14 looooooooooooooooooooong weeks to go, but with a week off at Christmas so technically 13 weeks to go...

haquoi123 · 27/10/2015 09:48

sighing eurgh that's annoying! Although it's making me think I finely need to check if the baby clothes in getting are borrowed or given. But she could have at least checked with you first!

We had our final scan at 25 weeks yesterday, which had left us feeling quite confused and a bit stressed, even though I'm now classed as low risk and in community midwife care. My cervix measured at 2.3cm,which is a good cm less that it should be. My Dr kept saying that they wouldn't want to circlage until it's under 2cm and I'm a bit too far along for that anyway. We're on a sex and orgasm ban at least until 28-30 weeks (although I'm not sure I'm ever going to have sex again after we ended up in the hospital with bleeding last week!) and on strict instructions to come in if we have any concerns as they would give me steroid shots to help bubs along. But I did some (probably foolish) research and I'm more at risk of preterm labour (20%) with that length of cervix, so am trying not to panic, at the same time as thinking that she's discharged me from consultant care so she mustn't be too worried... It was almost as if she was a bit disappointed in the length (it was 4cm at 18 weeks) and trying to work out what the best plan of action was. What do you think?

I find this time of year whizzes by more than any other! If you think there's Halloween, Bonfire Night, then it'll be all about Xmas.... To be fair we've got loads of family birthdays in October, two friends in Nov, a traditional family get away end of Nov and DS's birthday in Dec so it disappears for me!

MamaBerg · 27/10/2015 12:01

Can someone please knock some sense into me?
I saw the physio this morning and as nice as he was he was totally clueless about PGP or SPD. He didn't want to do any manipulation or give me any exercises and didn't seem to get how much pain I am in just existing each day. I have just rang the physio dept and totally broken down in tears to the man on the booking line. I now can't stop crying! I feel like a total wally. I think I had pinned so much on this appointment in making a start on easing the pain, even just a little bit but to leave in no better state with no improvement in sight I was totally gutted.
The good news is the man on the phone was very understanding and has got me in on a cancellation for friday to see a different physio who he promised was used to dealing with this type of thing.
Why can't I stop crying?!?

joleyn · 27/10/2015 12:32

Oh mama tha sounds aawful. I saw physio last week (mine ddoesn't sound anywhere near as bad as yours) and although she said there was little they can do she did give me some exercises to try and aadvice on sleep positions. She also said if itggotworse they would try a support belt and mmaybe crutches. She did say rest was best thing, which havinga 3 year old I just laughed at! Really hope fFriday is better for you.

haquoi123 · 27/10/2015 12:48

mama that's so upsetting - surely they knew the reason why you were seeing the physio in the first place?? Don't feel like a wally, a snuffed beacon of hope is worse than it not being there. I've got my fingers crossed for your next appointment Flowers

Just had a phone call from my doctor who has had a bit of a rethink so I'm going in for another test today just to check there isn't more they need to do about the cervix. Phew! I've got a list of questions at the ready.

On another notenote, I've just seen something about wool nappy covers...

jellypi3 · 27/10/2015 13:31

seems like a lot to think about haqoi, let us know how your follow up app goes!

MaisieDotes · 27/10/2015 15:05

mama sorry to hear that happened. I'm pretty downhearted about the Physio too. I'm considering cancelling my next appt (I'm in Ireland so there's a cost per appt - €60) and maybe going to an osteopath instead.

But then I don't want to be running around from Billy to Jack looking for a solution if no solution really exists.

XingXingFox · 27/10/2015 17:26

mama that sounds so tough. I'm sorry they can't help. I don't know much about either condition but I really hope you can access some support somehow. Same to others suffering.

hacquoi try not to be disheartened. I think they fact they've discharged you to midwife care speak volumes. Everyday is a step further on and keep asking questions and demanding care.

I'm another who find this time of year flies by. It's my favourite time of year! Love Halloween/fireworks etc. Which is good because I'm definitely on the countdown to leaving. I'm self-employed so when I leave this contract, I'm leaving permanently until I start to look for work again. My mat leave start date coincided with the project finishing but now the project been extended till March and everyone expected me to stay on as long as I could work. I just told them all that wouldn't be the case today which was quite hard as we've all become really fond of each other and have worked well. But it doesn't stop my glee at the thought of stopping work in 7.5 weeks!! Really loved my time at home first time around, hope it's the same this time!

Rufus200 · 27/10/2015 18:22

haquoi hope the Dr appt went well?

Mama being in constant pain is horrible, I hope the new physio knows what he is doing. There is definitely help out there, just need someone experienced!

I'm losing everything I want on eBay at the moment, everyone seems to be paying stupid money for 2nd hand stuff.

Had a lovely evening with DH after a terrible sucky day yesterday on the building site. Builder is supposed to be out at the end of this week but I added an extra 2 weeks, just been told end of November now.
I woke up in agony in my left hip this morning, must have subluxated in the night. Limped out of bed, did some stretches and exercises and within 15 mins had thankfully clicked back into place. Then looked in the mirror to find I had a bleed in my eye in the night, so the bottom half of my eye is blood red. Looks like I've been mucking around with coloured contacts for Halloween. It is the same place as I scratched it so assume that a healing blood vessel just popped but going to watch that it isn't a sign of blood pressure changes.

Rufus200 · 27/10/2015 18:27

I've just checked on eBay and there are quite a few brand new perfect prep machines for sale. I'm going to wait as it is on my wish list and loads of people keep on telling me off for buying stuff, that I need to leave them stuff to buy, but I feel guilty for putting expensive things on my list and feel really awkward giving it to people even if they have asked.

neeniej9 · 27/10/2015 18:37

place marking too so I can see the comments

I felt flutters from 14 weeks and was told it was too soon but I knew what I was feeling wasn't wind!!! Baby's been a bit quiet today though :-(

Sighing · 27/10/2015 20:23

Mine has been quieter today. I worry a lot, but from where I am feeling the movements and poking the bump (poor mite) he's laying across for most of today so I think I feel it/ nice it less. When he is kicking round my belly button it makes more and also makes my belly move around.
If you're worried have you had a cold drink / ice cream and laid down quietly?

haquoi123 · 27/10/2015 22:25

Thanks rufus and fox. We went in to check that there was no leaking amniotic fluid and there isn't, so while nothing has changed from yesterday we feel a lot more reassured. And bubs has been doing some lovely kicking to let me know he's ok, so fingers crossed we can work together and keep going!

Troika · 28/10/2015 06:18

Oh haquoi must be such a worry for you. Just make sure you take it as easy as possible. Hopefully they'll keep a good eye on you, even if you've been discharged. (I've been discharged from consultant but still get my extra scans and one extra appointment)

Troika · 28/10/2015 06:23

Oh and wool. Brilliant for night but I found mine really stained and I hated the damp lanolin smell, seemed to permeate the whole house. In two minds whether I'll use them again this time.
