Congratulations on your little boy maybe

TheMshipIsBack · 22/10/2015 19:01

ffaux, flen - I started getting BH-like tightenings around 18 weeks with DS and it's been about the same this time. It feels like a taut band of muscle across the lower abdomen, but there's no pain for me and it goes away within a minute or two. It's a bit random, but sometimes it seems to be associated with trapped wind. I mentioned it to my midwife last time and she said it's pretty common, but if I was at all worried to phone in.

ffauxlivia · 22/10/2015 19:15

Aw congrats vroc and maybe - yay!

Thanks for replies and reassurance - beautiful you are so sweet and always make a point of replying to everyone! I trust your experience as a seasoned mama! And thanks flen and Mship, I feel okay now but if the pain gets more regular I will try get seen tomorrow. I can't tell the difference between instinct and FTM anxiety!

vroc81 · 22/10/2015 19:15

Congratulations Maybe!! Glad to see I wasn't the only one walking round jiggling...

The pug - mine took just under an hour, so you should be fine, and at that early they can't be running late already?

IndomitabIe · 22/10/2015 19:23

Ooh, more good scans! Congratulations all!

Re: scan duration - my letter said to allow 3 hours (and with travel time after that work is a write-off!). I'm also seeing the consultant afterwards.

Re: Braxton Hicks - I had them from 20 weeks last time, and seem to have had a few from about 16 weeks this time. They don't hurt for me (until near the end), and when I can feel my uterus properly feel like it just hardening. Inside, it feels very odd - almost tingly, maybe like a stretch. Hard to describe.

One more day of work till half term!

Me624 · 22/10/2015 19:49

Pug my scan only took about 25 minutes, but baby was cooperative and I didn't have to go off for a walk.

QforCucumber · 22/10/2015 19:55

pug mine was at 8:20 and was out by 9 but baby was laid in a good position for measurements apparently and we didn't find out the sex so didn't need it to move anywhere for that!
So glad your mind has been settled maybe it's such a relief.
Will anybody be booking any more scans after the 20 week ones? I'm contemplating a private one later but also don't know if there's any point

maybebabybee · 22/10/2015 20:13

pug mine was at 2.45 (went in bang on time) and I didn't get out until 4.30....the first bit took 30-40 minutes and then baby just wouldn't co-operate so I had to go for a walk and have a snack for another 40 minutes. Took ages! Think an hour might be cutting it a bit fine but it depends on your baby, it might co-operate (unlike mine!!)

beautiful yes first baby - I was completely ashamed of myself for having a gender preference to be honest as obviously the most important thing is that baby is healthy...my mum had 3 girls and then my brother, so the opposite way round to you!

ThePug · 22/10/2015 20:25

Wow, huge variation then! I guess I could always go for my consultant appointment (it's in the antenatal clinic so just a few rooms down) and then come back after that if the baby needs moving. DH will be with me too so I could get him to pop along and let them know where I am too if I get stuck in the scan. I'm so excited, not sure I'll sleep tonight!

Sorry some of you are getting strange aches or possible BH - it's so nervewracking not knowing what is/isn't normal!

BeautifulLiar · 22/10/2015 20:26

Aww I feel short changed - my scan was only 15 minutes! And I had a student who did some parts as well. Erm... also was I the only one who had to practically get her fadge out?! When the experienced sonographer took over she asked if I could pull my leggings right down my bum, then said "sorry sweetheart" as she pulled the front down Blush I asked DH afterwards how much was on show and he went "well... I could see your mons pubis" ?!?!

Ooh that's weird, maybe! So do you think you'll go for four? Wink

Oh ffaux that was really nice, thank you x

BeautifulLiar · 22/10/2015 20:28

Correction: nothing was visible after she stuffed the blue tissue down there but seriously?! I didn't even have to pull my trousers that far down for the first scan!!

maybebabybee · 22/10/2015 20:29

beautiful christ no, don't think I can handle 4! Maybe 3....we'll see how this one goes Wink

thepug I had my scan at UCLH and they are quite notorious for doing the scans in loads of detail...my 12 week one was 45 minutes.

ffauxlivia · 22/10/2015 20:29

haha beaut for my 12 week scan she pulled my pants right down revealing almost everything, I was a little shocked as its' not like that on TV! My DH is away for my 20 week scan so I'll be bringing a girlfriend - that reminds me I'll have to warn her :)

MyNameIsSuz · 22/10/2015 20:38

Argh, I just wrote a whole post and it disappeared!!! So much lovely scan news, yay everyone Smile

Am I the only one hoping for a slightly bigger baby this time? Ds was 6 lb 7 and although it was a nice quick birth with just gas and air (though I still had to be cut as he was coming out elbow first, little scamp), he was just a little too scrawny. It meant he was sleepy and didn't feed well, we really struggled with bf (but cracked it eventually and fed for over a year) and he lost a lot of weight. Anecdotal evidence, mostly from midwives and health visitors, seems to say that babies over 7lb do better and I'm counting on that this time to get us off to a good start!

I made my very first tiny little baby purchase yesterday - www.next.co.uk/g412536s6. Not much but made me happy, and the first pink thing I've ever bought that wasn't a gift. We have so much of ds' stuff saved that I won't be buying much, so the things I am buying will be frivolous and super girly (since the wee sausage will spend most of her time wearing dinosaurs and diggers).

And I'm HALFWAY TODAY!!! Grin

BeautifulLiar · 22/10/2015 20:42

3 is ok, except when they fight! God i hope 4 is manageable, suppose I can't send her back now can I?!

Yes ffaux I was sort of glad I didn't have a friend there witnessing my nakedness. I had to roll on my side too and just kept thinking "oh no, the student can see my arse!"

BeautifulLiar · 22/10/2015 20:44

Suz I love those! I do like most things pink and girly though, which I know is frowned upon on Mumsnet Wink

Small babies are supposed to be harder to deliver and need feeding more, I forgot about that. Hmm. Ok, a 6lb 5oz baby will do me nicely!

MyNameIsSuz · 22/10/2015 20:56

Yay Beautiful! I'm a sucker for pink, it's one of my favourite colours. That said, I do really dislike the whole princess thing and 'compulsory pink' for girls if you see what I mean. But I find the people who are against any pink at all equally baffling, it should be as valid a colour as any other. Mine will have a good mix of bright unisex and pinky girly stuff. I was similar for ds, not a fan of baby blues so he wore lots of red, orange, green etc, but his fair share of boyish designs too.

BeautifulLiar · 22/10/2015 21:07

Thats a good way of articulating it Suz! I don't really get the anti pink either. Sometimes I just think I am NOT going through morning sickness, piles, stretchmarks, labour, birth, lochia and leaking boobs for everyone to say "aww, is it a boy?" So pink it is! She won't be in ALL pink though, like my first DD was... oh how I cringe at that now!

Me624 · 22/10/2015 21:38

Beautiful mine made me pull my knickers down quite a way too! Way further than I had to at my 12 week one - I was quite shocked! Heaven help me when it comes to sweeps and internal exams, I'm a right prude.

MyNameIsSuz · 22/10/2015 21:41

Oh I had to pull my pants right down too, and I was cursing how tricky it is keeping everything tidy with a bump in the way!

vroc81 · 22/10/2015 21:46

I have a pink top already... I actually bought it as a present but couldn't bare to part with it! I'm not anti pink on girls and blue on boys and I'm not going to not buy dinosaurs because it's a girl...But I have noticed that a few shops only have pink or flowers for girls which is a shame not to have more selection..

My pants were so low when I got up my bum was hanging out.. Blush

IndomitabIe · 22/10/2015 22:41

I'm one of the anti-pinks! It just represents everything that I was expected to be, everything I felt uncomfortable as/with. For me it's symbolic of inescapable inequality.

DH & DS like it as a colour. I can't bring myself to have anything pink, I'm awkward with anything remotely girly or feminine. In fact, I find the inescapable femininity of pregnancy difficult. I know I've got issues!

What will I do if this one's a girl? A girly girl? And people buy girly things and value her only for her appearance? Grin

MyNameIsSuz · 22/10/2015 23:00

If that happens you teach her the opposite to balance it out, indomitable! I think there's a world of difference between people buying pink things for your baby and forcing a femininity on her that isn't wanted. I'm lucky that I'm not surrounded by people who treat little girls like princesses, but my stepsister and her dh are very much like that and so my dad, who sees them all the time, does it too. I think if anyone tries to do the princess thing it'll be them - I plan to very breezily but firmly put my foot down at the first hint!

maybebabybee · 23/10/2015 08:36

I agree with suz although admittedly I'm not in the same boat as I'm having a boy. But it's not like I'll be buying him all blue things with trucks on.

I was a mix as a kid - I loved disney and princess stuff and pink but also loved dinosaurs and being in the garden and animals. I'm still like that now really. I think as long as you give your DC the choice and you don't give them a hard time for either, you're doing fine :)

maybebabybee · 23/10/2015 08:36

oh and also another one here who practically had to get my foof out during the scan. Luckily I have no shame Grin
