Thanks for the new thread Paper. Struggling to keep up with you lot this week! Such a chatty bunch Smile Haven't been on as much lately as been busy with work, house move and mum started her chemo yesterday too (eventually!!).
Had my 16 week mw appt on Friday and mw Wanted to sign me off work due to my blood pressure being through the roof already. Managed to persuade her to leave me be for now but I've got to go back in 2 weeks and if not improved then I have no choice and I'll be off on rest Sad that will only add to my stress levels as money will be mega tight as if it isn't already with Xmas round the corner!! Anyway, heard babies heartbeat which was AmazingGrin! Still no 20 week scan date, apparently they tend to appear about 18/19 weeks which doesn't give much notice to give work but suppose they have to give me the time anyway

Beautiful I liked you til I saw that pic Envy!! I think the last time my stomach was that flat I was about 14 before puberty took hold lol

MotherKat · 01/10/2015 21:35

Boobs - mine were already pretty epic, now up to an L cup and out of anything available in shops.
Heartburn - doctors have prescribed renatadine, seems to work better than gaviscon.

RhubarbAndMustard · 02/10/2015 07:37

Can't believe I've only got to posting on this thread 50 messages in!

A lot of you are going through some stressful times right now, so Thanks and non- alcoholic Wineto you all.

Beautiful your pic is amazing. I won't subject you all to my belly pic. Much more Truffle Shuffle for me.

Still no movements for me but my DS is being so cute saying 'I love you baby' and kissing my bump lots. Can't wait to find out if he's having a brother or sister.

Missikat · 02/10/2015 08:39

mynameis, I'm with you sadly on the heartburn. I also had it awfully with DS and lived attached to a bottle of gaviscon prescribed by the GP. It definitely started much later than this before, so not looking forward to 5 more months of it!

Has anyone else felt movement then nothing? I'm sure that a week and a half ago for two days I felt baby, but nothing since. Kind of making me a bit worried, but then I'm thinking maybe I was wrong and it wasn't baby I felt....but I'm so sure it was. I'm 17+4 today.

ffauxlivia · 02/10/2015 14:33

thanks for all the hugs ladies. pug I read that it's a latent virus in your body that can be reactivated when your immune system is low - so I'm guessing pregnancy caused it! Stress can do that too but I thought I wasn't that stressed - until now that is! Just wish I could take time off work but the silly US work system doesn't give you unlimited paid time off - you have to accrue it and I am too new in job :( Missing home right now!

missdee hope your mum's chemo goes well Flowers And hope your blood pressure levels out, maybe it was just high with everything going on. Hope you have a relaxing weekend planned!

No heartburn here yet, I was a baldy so maybe this kid is too, if that tale is even true!

ThePug · 02/10/2015 15:23

ffaux What's the tale, that if the baby has lots of hair the mum gets heartburn? Interesting! I had loads and loads of really dark hair (before going blonde) but DH was a bald baby. I've had no heartburn at all.

Not surprised you're missing home I thought Minneapolis, or what I saw which was mainly Bloomington, was fugly and Mall of America was literally the only thing to do I know you said before but I've forgotten; will you be coming back to the UK to have the baby/soon after?

ffauxlivia · 02/10/2015 15:54

Yes pug - heartburn is supposed to equal baby with lots of hair! There is a shred of evidence I found online but anecdotally it doesn't seem to be that true! I hardly any hair for about 3 years and mum said people used to assume I was sick Confused and she had heartburn with me

I actually love Minneapolis - there's a lot more to it than meets the eye - so many free music, art and food festivals over the summer, very liberal and vibrant city with great people, I was pleasantly surprised. Winter is another matter though (can get down to -40 degrees C!) Bloomington is boring so you didn't see the best bits!

But I miss the work culture of home as that's the biggest difference - here you're just supposed to work until you drop..... all that 'anyone can make it to the top if you work hard enough' bullshit. And I'm at a University - not even the private sector!

ffauxlivia · 02/10/2015 15:55

oops missed your question - no have at least another year here, maybe more. Not worried about having baby here though, happy with health care in general! They don't have such a big mid-wife culture but I don't really mind being under the care of an OB since I have endo and other complications. Just hope I get nice nurses on the day!

julesldn · 02/10/2015 17:54

Thanks for the new thread paper :)

Missikat - yep I'm the same! Felt baby for a couple of days, nothing for a week, now feel movements every other day maybe. Definitely different to wind as well so know it's the baby! I'm 19.5 too so Id just wait it out a bit :)

Hope you all have nice things planned for the weekend! X

MyNameIsSuz · 02/10/2015 17:58

My ds was a hairy baby so it was true for us! I remember when he was born they held him up and his sideburns glinted in the afternoon sun...

My emotions are all over the place it turns out :-( Just took ds to see a children's show, a Julia Donaldson one, and was really looking forward to it, rushed around to get there on time after work... then we couldn't see very well, he got restless and naughty and we spent most of it sitting outside after I couldn't make him be quiet so took him out :-( I'm so disappointed I literally feel like crying, which is such an overreaction.

Trinpy · 02/10/2015 19:06

The heartburn thing was true for me as well. Ds was a very hairy baby - not just on his head, he had little hairy ears and a hairy back when he was born. I was secretly a bit sad when his ears went bald!

BeautifulLiar · 02/10/2015 19:09

Same here. No heartburn (touch wood) in fact I've never had it - wouldn't have a clue what it felt like and my babies didn't have much hair. I was kinda sad cos I always wanted hairy babies... i was born with loads of black hair! It worked out in the end though as they're all bright blondies now Grin

Sorry to hear about the shingles ffaux and misdee, i hope you and your mum are holding up ok Flowers

IndomitabIe · 02/10/2015 19:23

DS was hairy (you can still see it on his back if you look closely), I had relentless heartburn.

I can't stand the texture of gaviscon though, so I munched through tonnes of rennies.

I've already got a massive box on standby, but it hasn't returned yet.

JustTheOneThanks · 02/10/2015 21:09

Hey all Smile I barely posed on the previous thread so I am determined to here!

20th Oct for my 20 week scan feels so far away! Cannot wait to see him/her again and hopefully find out the sex. I went to a Mothercare Expectant Parent event earlier this too and found it really enjoyable, anyone else attended one?

ThePug · 02/10/2015 21:54

ffaux Sounds like I missed all the good bits!

JustTheOne Have had the Mothercare event emails but ridiculously there is no Mothercare in my city so I'd have to travel a bit to get to one and they all seem to be midweek. Were they offering any particularly good discounts?

Paperblank · 02/10/2015 23:10

Just

I've booked tickets to one on Tuesday evening - I'm not sure what it's about though just that the lady in the shop said they were worth going to (but then she would say that)

Did you buy anything? nosy

RhubarbAndMustard · 03/10/2015 06:45

Oh no. My first major incidence of baby brain and I feel awful. I was supposed to visit my friend (fair drive away) this weekend. She text me late last night to ask when I was arriving. I've seen the text this morning thinking. 'What is she talking about?'. I've got it in my diary for next weekend.

Feel like a fool as now we have things planned this weekend that I can't get out of. And I've done this to her before! I'm such a bad friend ConfusedSad

MyNameIsSuz · 03/10/2015 07:06

Oh no rhubarb! I did similar to my mum last weekend - it was my boy's birthday mid-week and I invited them over this weekend for cake, but wasn't very clear which weekend next to his birthday I meant as she thought it was last weekend! Only texted me late the night before. I didn't even have anything planned, but the place was a tip!

RhubarbAndMustard · 03/10/2015 07:14

Oh no Suz! I hope our brains get back into gear soon. Luckily my friend has been very understanding. Hope your mum was too or did you do a major cleaning frenzy/cake dash?

MyNameIsSuz · 03/10/2015 07:21

Yes my mum was understanding, I think it was both of our mistakes as neither of us clarified which weekend! She's coming today and I do need to do a bit of a clean but nothing like last week, and I have baked an awesome birthday cake Smile

marmitemofo · 03/10/2015 07:23

DD was very hairy and I had no heartburn at all! She still is ridiculously hairy, just like me Confused

rhubarb I had the same thing happen to me once when DD was 4 months old! Except was my friend visiting me and she rang me when she was at the statiom to ask where i was! Don't think I could blame it on baby brain though - maybe lack of sleep brain?!

docmcstuffins1 · 03/10/2015 08:28

There's no Mothercare near here too, but I am going to the baby and toddler show in Manchester next weekend. Rediculously excited about it!

BeautifulLiar · 03/10/2015 08:29

Hopefully going to some car dealerships today!! Has anyone got any tips on how to haggle with car salesmen?! DH and I are so not assertive.

Also I just googled "how to get used to driving a bigger car" and an old thread from sherazade was the top result! How's did it go sher?! Grin

BeautifulLiar · 03/10/2015 08:30

How* not how's!

Me624 · 03/10/2015 08:36

Beautiful you just need to be completely shameless ... I'm rubbish at it but DH (a salesman himself) will spend half an hour arguing at the end to get another £100 off - while I sit there dying of embarrassment. It works though!
