First trimester worries and joys. Test taking, morning sickness, midwife appointments and scans. It's all happening.

Can't believe we filled up a thread already. (I'll get this deleted if someone's already created a second thread, but I didn't see one!

Just remember that if you get a Doppler it might worry you more if you can't find a heart beat due to position. They can also falsely reassure you later on, just because there's a heart beat doesn't mean everything is ok if you don't know how to interpret it...so it might end up causing more worry?!

These first 12 weeks are so difficult and slow!

PearlyFish · 30/09/2015 19:36

Hi Nicky and Royal, I've been using a sonoline doppler, it picked up a heartbeat the first time I tried it at 7+2, I was amazed it worked that early.

Nicky333 · 30/09/2015 19:41

Yes, I looked last night and they had '24 hour sale' on them but I doubt there really is a 24 hour sale Wink

PearlyFish · 30/09/2015 19:44

Also used it in my last pregnancy, mostly in the weeks before I could feel movement (and also once or twice when she had a quiet day). I never had a problem finding the heartbeat, although sometimes could only pick it up very briefly due to baby moving around.

Nicky333 · 30/09/2015 19:45

Thanks Parsnip and Pearly. I understand what you're saying Parsnip, which is why I didn't buy one last night. I might start a thread on the board seeing what people think of that particular brand.

How much is the Sonoline one, Pearly?

Nicky333 · 30/09/2015 19:46

About £30, after not being lazy and looking at eBay.

PearlyFish · 30/09/2015 20:24

I can't remember how much I paid for it now but £30 sounds about right Smile

You could also think about renting one, being as you won't really need to use it for very long. Not sure how much that is though.

ljjeffro · 30/09/2015 21:53

The only thing with buying a Doppler Nicky is that you don't want to worry yourself if you can't find a heartbeat. It might not be able to pick up it up every time you use it, which is likely to make you worry more

ljjeffro · 30/09/2015 22:03

I've just looked at my paperwork that came through today for my booking in and scan. It says that my Dr has requested that I have a nuchal scan. This is different to a normal dating scan isn't it? This explains why I have to go to Kings College. They said my appointment will last for 2 hours, will include all the screening tests and I'll get the results on the same day. Last time I went for the 12wk scan I filled in all the consent forms and bought them with me. I'm quite happy to have this done but I don't know why my Dr has requested it. I asked at the GP appointment to request an early scan but that was it. They have also asked me to take part in scientific research studies. I think I'll ask the mw at my booking in appointment about why I've been referred for this and not a normal dating scan.

Bishboshbash · 30/09/2015 22:05

12 week scan is the nuchal scan here as far as I know? It's just the standard scan?

Brenna24 · 30/09/2015 22:18

Welcome Snowflake.

Glad things are looking up ODog

I have had a rare day with no nausea or bloating and not quite as much exhaustion. Nice but I would rather have the reassurance back by tomorrow. Never pleased me. Grin

My poor old dog has been a right whingey git this evening. I think I may have to pop him back to the vets again soon. I don't think he is that comfortable again. Sad

Nicky333 · 30/09/2015 23:21

The midwife said that the nuchal scan is at the 12 week scan. I signed the forms today.

Hope that your dog is okay Brenna xox

Nicky333 · 30/09/2015 23:22

ljj, yes, I've been reading some old threads on dopplers and that's the general opinion - that they're for fun and not for stopping you worry. Someone said that there are people who've thought their baby was okay and it wasn't.

Brenna24 · 30/09/2015 23:53

He is old and arthritic. Sad he has been on tramadol plus other meds for a couple of years now but I am noticing that he is just not as comfortable again. Sadly I think this may well be his last winter as he is just about on the maximum dose now. He has settled and is currently on my legs snoring and twitching. Probably dreaming of the days when he could still chase things.

Nicky333 · 30/09/2015 23:55

Awww Brenna, it must be such a hard time for you Sad

Mamama31 · 01/10/2015 08:26

Awh Brenna that's so sad :( poor dog, they really become part of the family too.

Re the doppler, I don't think I'd get anything that might add to my anxiety but for others might be ok, just wouldn't be for me.

Mamama31 · 01/10/2015 08:26

Welcome Royal :)

TiffanyAtBreakfast · 01/10/2015 09:17

Aww Brenna that's so sad Sad your poor doggy.

Happy 1st October everyone! It feels suitably autumnal today. I've been wanting to get some pumpkins and spray them silver (Pinterest-style) to decorate my front garden, but nowhere seems to stock them yet near me!

What is everyone doing this weekend? It's my DH's 29th birthday on Saturday so I'm taking him to see an ice hockey match as a surprise, he's always wanted to go but never has. I also have a ton of tidying up to do as we've got some guests staying next weekend, zzzz.

PeasinPod1 · 01/10/2015 09:40

Hi hope all are well. I another scan yesterday, and from baby being 2 days under what I thought at my last scan its slightly had a growth spurt now putting me 2 days ahead (8 weeks today according to measurements) what I thought I was! Very reassuring. That;s me stopping going into EPU etc now unless something else happens! Need to just chill out now (if possible!) ha Wink

I also had a Sonoline doppler for DS1- never had an issue finding heartbeat, use it everyday so you get very used to picking it up, even if it takes a while. I think most know that if later on in preg movement becomes reduces/stops even if you still find a heartbeat, you should go straight in to be checked. So had no issue with it at all + look forwards to using it again this preg.

ljjeffro the odds of mmc after having just 1 are very reduced- if you had a msc in your 1st preg you have a 13% chancer of happen again (compared to 10% chance with no mcc) and if 1 mmc after a live birth 10%. So pretty good chance all will be fine.

ToffeeAppleMarsBar · 01/10/2015 10:07

Ooh very interesting conversation about the baby heart beat monitors - I'd been thinking of one for reassurance but maybe not worth the risk of not being able to find heartbeat? I'm a natural worrier so probably best not to panic myself.

Brenna, so sorry to hear your dog isn't well. Sounds like he's been a brilliant member of the family and you never know - he may surprise you and have a little more left in him!

Peas - ahh, that's great news that your baby is growing so well! Keep up the good work :)

As for me... be careful what you wish for. Was wanting to feel more sick last week to know everything was 'progressing nicely' and after chucking my guts up this morning, I'm really regretting longing for this! I'm going to have to tell my boss today if I can (she's in back to back meetings all day so it's going to be tricky to find a spare moment with her). UGH.

Why did I want to be pregnant, again?!

ODog · 01/10/2015 10:41

I feel your pain toffee, I worried with DS that I never had any sickness and barely any nausea. This time I've felt sick on and off and vommed yesterday afternoon. Still feeling delicate and in the last 24hrs have only managed anything beige. Currently trying to get myself in the mood to take DS to his swimming lessons. Sod's law I got the easy pregnancy without a child and this one when I have to look after a crazy 16mo!!

Emzlou15 · 01/10/2015 10:41

Hey Brenna really sorry to hear this, have you tried Green Lipped Mussels. You can find it in some different dog products if you have a good search. My old dog got arthritis and she was on medication that didn't help but we started giving her these chews with green lipped mussels in and you couldn't tell she had arthritis it gave her a new lease of life.

Toffee you know it will have all been worth it when you can finally hold your little Baby in your arms.

Mamama31 · 01/10/2015 10:41

Peas that's amazing about your scan, I have heard that early scans can differ so much and baby can catch up very quickly by the next scan. I have one next sat when I'll be 9+1 and so hoping to see good growth! But like you ill stop with EPU then and wait for 12wk scan as it's quite anxiety provoking with scans coming up often I think.

Toffee sorry your feeling/being sick. I haven't actually Vomitted as yet, I seem to get through my day doing very little though and I feel ok until I eat. As the day goes on I feel worse- mine is def more evening sickness but start to crash from after lunch time. And can only manage very small things for dinner. I hope your feeling better soon- despite all being good signs!

royaldub · 01/10/2015 10:50

Morning All,
Hmm interesting about the doppler alright I am a natural worrier so it probably wont do me any good - these weeks are going by so slowly!!!

Brenna sorry to hear about your dog, hope he is ok! I had that yesterday slight nausea and no vomiting and I was wishing I felt sicker lol! Back to normal today though!

Thanks for the welcome Mamama31!

Toffee, I had to tell my bosses(I have 3 lol) at four weeks, as was so sick couldnt make it into work and couldnt make up excuses, I have an hours commute on bus to Dublin and it is crap. Anyway I am glad I have told them as they are kind of understanding but then they told the directors of the company without asking me or even informing me - only found out when one of the directors came up to the kitchen and congratulated me so I was a bit pissed about that.

Tiffany- ooh a ice hockey match that sounds cool! I have OH parents 40th Anniversary dinner- will be interesting explaining the no drinking as OH sister was asking me last weekend at my ds party why I wasnt drinking, I think OH mam has her suspicions!

PeasinPod1 · 01/10/2015 10:52

mama thanks + exactly same here- morning sickness to me is a myth, only start feeling nauseous mid afternoon/evening- also having bigger lunches and smaller dinners which is opposite to how Id normally do it!
Your scan next Sat will be a huuuge one, if all is well (which sure it will) at 9 weeks & heartbeat, odds are insanely stacked on your side Smile
