I've no idea if I was on the list, it was too long for me. Changed my password just in case.

I keep trying to book antenatal appointments so they cause the least disruption possible to my work, for example booking at 4pm. And every time I do this, I get a phone call later on saying they've had to cancel for one reason or another and now since it's closer to the time the appointment is in the middle of the day and I will have to have even more time off work due to the commute. I realise I'm entitled to paid time off, but it still winds me up. The more work I miss, the more I have to catch up on. No-one covers my job. Plus I'm trying to keep my employer sweet since I'll probably need to renegotiate my hours once bubs is here.

Is it really so common to have your appointments change time? It's happened to me for every single midwife appointment so far and I only got 1.5 hours notice for booking in since no-one ever referred me (GP said they had but I wasn't on any record) so they found me an emergency one which of course was in the middle of the day. Am I just unlucky?

coffeenut · 19/08/2015 12:56

congrats tiny ! Smile Another blue!!

brickie I'm going for a fixed seat. It's a bit of a pain I remember at newborn stage but you quickly get used to taking baby out/putting in and it's less fuss in the long run.

melonface · 19/08/2015 13:02

I have an appointment with a midwife at 3pm today. wish me luck!

Oysterbabe · 19/08/2015 13:04

They've never changed the time of one of mine Edgar

AlohaMama · 19/08/2015 13:51

sounds unlucky edgar, mine have never changed. Can you be more firm next time and say it is too disruptive for your work to go in the middle of the day - they should be able to find you the same time for another day that week shouldn't they?

brickie for DS and DD I had a car seat that was rear & fwd facing, but stayed in the car. It was fine with DS as he was easy to transfer, with DD it could be a bit of a pain if she'd fallen asleep as she'd always wake up when I got her out. We were living in tropics then, in this climate I'd prefer to be able to settle the baby inside, put on the blankets etc and then just slot the car eat in. Also having other kids means I can get the baby ready in the seat, then put the others in the car. My Dsis gave me her 0+ car seat though so I'm not having to spend extra and when we grow out of that I'll see what works best next. It's a britax and is one of the larger ones so she's used it for 2.5 yrs with her daughter.

mrschatty · 19/08/2015 13:55

edgar nope never had a change...not good I say!
Oh no I'm on the list Sad cockwomble. Why would they do that! I've changed it again now.

tiny congratulations wonderfulness team blue and pink are evening out

SleepyDragon · 19/08/2015 13:56

Nor mine Edgar they've always been at the time time satted.

Though, i am sure my Consultant said he wanted an additional appointment with me in September and i;ve not had a letter for that yet and that was 29 July!

SleepyDragon · 19/08/2015 13:58

Oooh FX Melon Grin

spydie · 19/08/2015 14:01

Not been on for a few days and just seen the whole hack thing, thanks for the person who pointed out I was on the list. Changed password last night, bit worried though now!!!

Hope everyone is ok! To the person asking about feeling a bit meh about being pregnant, I can relate. I dont feel excited right now or even anything really.... But then I'm preoccupied about moving house so maybe that's why! Hugs xx

Hi all, I'm a newbie, due 10th Jan, 20 week scan next Weds. Lovely group full of supportive words and advice! xx

loveulotslikejellytots · 19/08/2015 15:02

Brickie We've been thinking about the same thing. Whether to get an infant carrier to start with and then something bigger later on, or buy something that stays fixed in the car that will go from Birth - 4 years.

MOney wise i'd prefer to get one that will last all the way through. But my Mum and a friend have all pointed out that we'll be having our baby at the coldest part of the year and it'll carry on being crappy weather for at least 3-4 months. Getting baby strapped in, covered up etc. indoors and just clipped in the car should be easier. Otherwise you've got to take them out in the cold, get them strapped in and covered up, all in the cold/rain. Apparenltly you shoulnd't put babies in their car seats with coats on, is this the same with snowsuits?

I'm not keen on clipping the car seat onto the chassis of the pram, but again, my mum pointed out, if they haven't slept well and you've finally managed to get out of the house for ten minutes, the last thing you want to be doing it waking them up transferring them into a carrycot for a short time.

Despite all that, i'm still undecided!

Haitch35 · 19/08/2015 15:06

For those not sure if you're on the hacked list, there should be a 'find in/on page' search function in every internet browser (including on phones - I've just used it on mine). You can usually find it under the main menu, I think, and it means you can type in your username and it will find anything that matches it on the page, rather than you having to read the whole lot.

tinyme135 · 19/08/2015 15:10

hey claire we share the same due date :) due date buddies haha xD

tinyme135 · 19/08/2015 15:12

I can't do it on my phone :(

melonface · 19/08/2015 15:21

All ok, midwife was lovely and made me feel reassured and not too daft. heard baby's heartbeat again which makes me so happy!

Welcome new people Grin

AlohaMama · 19/08/2015 15:25

loveulots yes, you can't put baby into the seat in a snowsuit - it means the straps aren't snug enough against their body. i think it is apparently one of the more common safety errors, and the straps are actually supposed to be pretty tight.

I don't think I was on the list but changed my p/w anyway. Better to be on the safe side!

Just cooking bolognaise for tea and pouring in the wine just made me really fancy a glass - it smelt delicious! It's the first time I have really craved a glass of wine. I think in the first trimester I was too sick to contemplate it, and by the time I felt better I'd got used to going without (and as I do the food shopping we just tend not to have any in the house now). Lucky DH gets to now finish the rest of the bottle!

Haitch35 · 19/08/2015 15:46

It's okay tiny, you're not on the list Smile

lilyb84 · 19/08/2015 15:47

spydie it was me and glad to know I'm not the only one. Having a bit of a smile today after hearing the hb earlier (and think I might be feeling some fluttering...) but I've been a bit on the fence otherwise! Hope all your move stuff is going smoothly.

edgar sounds like they're short staffed in your area or similar, that's a real pain though. Even with start or end of day appts I'm finding it takes a chunk out of my day thanks to travelling there and back so sympathise if they're messing you around Sad

I've had my first real cravings for alcohol too, despite still being a bit off some foods. Glad to know my body has its priorities straight Grin

lilyb84 · 19/08/2015 15:48

Oh and welcome and congrats claire!

Nightfall1983 · 19/08/2015 15:58

Fixed car seat here, as we did with our first. There are times when it would've been convenient to be able to strap him in first/get him out in the seat but it really wasn't a big deal. I just wrapped a blanket around him to take him out to the car, strapped him in and settled the blanket around him again. I also put a folded muslin on the seat so that it didn't feel cold on his back. I've always been able to carry him in asleep if he falls asleep in the car (in fact I've just done so now and he's 3 in a couple of weeks!).

CubanoHabana · 19/08/2015 16:00

miss she was hacked and that awful man rang police claiming to have heard gun shots in the house and armed police stormed the house late at night.

Nightfall1983 · 19/08/2015 16:36

Oh since we're on car seats I've got temporary membership to Which? if anyone would like me to check a rating for them. I've also done a lot of car seat research myself and am always happy to offer an opinion if asked (I won't offer if not asked, well I try not to anyway, I know it's annoying!!)

PS should just mention that I don't personally think that which is the be-all-and-end-all of car seats, I didn't used them when purchasing my sons seats but I know some people find them useful and comforting and currently have a trial membership thing if anyone is interested :)

ValancyJane · 19/08/2015 16:46

tiny Congratulations on team blue, that's lovely (and you were spot on!)

brickie It really worries me that I only understood about 50% of your post on car seats, I think I have some reading up to do now!!!

I wasn't on the list posted, and have changed my password, but do remember having issues signing in and trying a few times the other day, which could have been the fake sign in screen. Confused Think I'll change it again for good measure.

Have had a busy day today, highlight was having a haircut for the first time in months, it's all swishy and nice now!!

Nightfall1983 · 19/08/2015 16:53

PSS (Yes, I'm aware that I'm probably being annoying). If you want the flexibility of a seat you can take inside combined with the longevity of a 0 - 4+ rear facing car seat you might want to consider the practical but ugly Klippan Kiss

Romeolovesjuliet · 19/08/2015 16:55

Hello all. Really rubbish about the hacking. Don't think I was on the list but have changed password anyway.
Had mw appointment today and heard the heartbeat Smile. Also saw consultant re. Birth plan because of previous large PPH. As both of my babies were well over 9lb at 38/39 weeks respectively they have referred me for a growth scan at 34 weeks and will see me at 39 wks for a sweep if haven't gone into labour by then. Also said I have to have a cannula in again so they can give me a drip after birth if needed but that I may be able to use the mw unit/water birth provided the supervisor of midwives is happy for me to. It may all be academic as last time my labour was too fast to use the pool but I'm really pleased they are giving me the option.
Car seats - we still have our infant carrier we will use and keep the baby in rear facing as long as possible (didn't move DS out until about 14 months and he is tall). May then get an ERF seat as will need another seat by then anyway.
