Hope all is OK melon

Does anybody know what the iron results test is called on your blood result forms? It's not under ferratin on mine.

SleepyDragon · 11/08/2015 10:34

Melon it was me, mine are is too high, i'll send you some over lol!

Nightfall1983 · 11/08/2015 10:49

Brooke It's Haemoglobin. Mine was high too - though not quite as extreme as sleepy's! Can't remember exactly but a could of points above the "normal" range.

Brooke113 · 11/08/2015 10:55

Thanks nightfall

Mine was 146, the midwife at my 16w apt said she hadn't seen a result that high in a while, I didn't know what I was looking for on my results form, so many tests! I must say I'm quite confused by that result though as I've been on and off iron supplements for years as my results are always low.

Nightfall1983 · 11/08/2015 11:15

So I just grabbed my notes to check as I was curious. My haemoglobin was 147 g/L and the top of the "normal" range is 142. It's noted as "high" on my results but no one has mentioned it so I doubt it's a problem. I've always had excellent iron levels tbh - even after loosing "a lot" of blood during my sons birth it didn't drop below the normal range which the doctors were shocked by :)

melonface · 11/08/2015 11:24

I'll be really surprised if my iron is low as my pregnancy multi vitamins say they contain 121% of my daily allowance! Good to know there's a reason I've been so woozy, I knew something was up.

missmartin excited to hear your news later!

Boosiehs · 11/08/2015 11:33

It might be a problem absorbing the iron from the supplements though - that happened to me last time.

I was told to take it with OJ as the Vit C helped with the absorption.

Nightfall1983 · 11/08/2015 11:52

Also tannins affect iron absorption so avoid tea (even decaf) when you are taking the supplements...

Brooke113 · 11/08/2015 11:55

I haven't been on iron supplements since Feb time. As again, at that point my levels were extremely low and I was lethargic, so to go from that to high levels, is strange for me.

SleepyDragon · 11/08/2015 12:08

I may need to check my results again then Nightfall as you say 142 is top of the normal range yet i was told mine far exceeded the normal range which was 40-42 (missing the hundred) and the consultant was surprised how high my results were.

Will check when i get home, i've probably quoted my BP again by accident!

I have never taken an iron supplement in my life though but hey, my BP is up, my iron is up.... as long as nothing else is Smile

brickiemum2 · 11/08/2015 12:09

sleepy I also have unusually high iron levels. 124 last time they were checked. Iron supplements are really biounavailable so I doubt it's that. I do eat a packet of rocket leaves, a packet of sunflower seeds and a packet of pumkin seeds a week which are all meant to be high in bioavailable iron. Don't know if that's true or not.

Nightfall1983 · 11/08/2015 12:17

sleepy your trust might measure a different aspect of iron/in the different way. Mine measures haemoglobin in g/L, if you check your results you can see what yours measures and how - if your consultant said that 142 was extremely high then I'm sure that's right, they probably measure it in a different way such as floz/pint or something - it doesn't matter anyway I'm sure :)

hotcrossbun83 · 11/08/2015 13:29

mrschatty ds has a jungle themede room and he loves it, points at the animals and growls. It was decorated when we were team yellow, definitely unisex!

stupidgirl45 · 11/08/2015 13:41

Off to my 16wk appt in a bit - time to hear the hb!

Re: cravings, I'm a dairy fan also here. And also randomly pickled cucumbers. Cannot get enough!

I had low iron last time and felt much better with supplements so always good to get these things checked :)

I've had some palpitations every few days over the last couple of weeks so going to ask MW about that...

Looking fwd to hearing back from MissMartin about her scan. I'm counting the days to mat leave also. I think its 55 days if I take some leave when I move house in October. Yippee!

16+6

lilyb84 · 11/08/2015 14:00

I can't stop eating strawberries - or any other berries. Loving sweet, juice fruits here (whereas have to force an apple or banana... eugh)! Also pretty much anything sweet but that's nothing out of the ordinary Grin

Just counted my days left before mat leave and it's still around the 113 mark, but I do have about 24 days' leave left so that makes it more like 90 days if I manage to take some of those! Woohoo! 90 days is really just 3 months Smile

EdgarAllenPoe · 11/08/2015 14:46

Jealous of all these scans. Mine is just over two weeks away when I'll be nearly 21 weeks. We're not finding out the sex, but you're all making me curious.

I'm shattered today as I spent the last two days stripping infinite layers of ancient wallpaper from my bedroom. Plasterer is in for the rest of the week. It feels good to finally be doing something creative rather than destructive on the house. We will have at least one nice room before the baby comes!

SleepyDragon · 11/08/2015 14:53

OH.MY.GOD

bargain alert!

I've just managed to use my Tesco Club Card Boost Vouchers to get 3 x 260ml Tommee Tippee closer to nature bottles and a Tommee Tippee perfect prep milk maker FOR FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!

i am so giddy!!!!!

Nightfall1983 · 11/08/2015 14:54

My DS also had a jungle themed room - decorated when we were Team Yellow. I don't think it's too boyish at all but I'm not a fan of pink either.

I have another scan tomorrow, a specialist heart one, it's the first one that DH is able to come to (and almost certainly the last) so I'm looking forwards to it, we will also find out the sex (all being well). I'm 17 + 2 and after tomorrow will have had 8 (eight!) scans, it's lovely seeing baby so often but is surprisingly disruptive, I don't know how I'd manage if I wasn't a SAHM, I don't have much say over when the scans are and each one takes up a minimum of 2 hrs including waiting - it's also costing a fortune in hospital parking fees! I'm not complaining really (I know it sounds like I am), I'm glad they are being so careful and we should know as early as possible about any physical problems to allow us to make plans for the birth.

Nightfall1983 · 11/08/2015 15:10

Oh, just wanted to say sleepy that the Perfect Prep machine is AMAZING. We never had one but BIL and SIL did and it's ace for making bottles up to the guidelines (ie not in advance) quickly and without faffing.

brickiemum2 · 11/08/2015 15:17

Just be cautious of those prep machines...there are loads of reports of them growing mould on the inside of the machine if you don't run the cleaning cycle really regularly, like daily.

stupidgirl45 · 11/08/2015 15:45

Back from appt. Heard HB. All good although it's a really wriggly one - and I'm carrying v low again sigh my poor bladder! I also have an anterior placenta which seems fairly meaningless at this stage.

MW thinks baby is a girl based on speed of HB

Ohh well 50% chance....

Exceellent bargain hunting, well done. I've not bought anything yet, altough my mum is getting me this beautiful carrier:
www.kokadi.de/en/baby-carriers/Flip-TaiTai/kokadi-baby-carrier-Erna-in-Wonderland::351.html?MODsid=9lpni0ekqfvoucs38306sutep1 (provided it doesn't go out of stock!)

mrschatty · 11/08/2015 16:03

Thanks fir comments about nursery. Safari /jungle seems popular amongst the yellow team Smile thank you! I'm watching 3 day nanny...Omg I should be making notes...

SleepyDragon · 11/08/2015 16:16

nightfall brickie thanks!

We were recommended it by BIL who swears by theirs, they clean it every other day I think he said and it's bedn fine but will definitely keep an eye out.

Making bottles instantly will be so much easier for someone as disorganised as me!

Brooke113 · 11/08/2015 16:53

I'm so scared for tonight, been worrying allday Sad

mrschatty · 11/08/2015 17:05

Oh brooke the nerves are awful arnt they Sad
nightfall re parking costs my hospital does ab annual pass for pregnants or people having treatment it's awful your place doesn't offer that kind of assistance! Do you have many more scans how regularly will they be through pregnancy? Will you be induced early or are they happy to let nature take its course when it comes to labour...sorry if I'm asking too many questions feel free to ignore me Blush
