I used palmers coco butter last time and didn't get any stretch marks on my stomach so using the same again. I naively didn't realise that my boobs, thighs and bum would grow so much so didn't use it and now I have an A to Z there...saves buying maps but I get some strange looks while I am driving Wink

MayFlowers16 · 15/08/2015 20:40

I used Burts Bee belly butter and oil last time, with good results. Although I have been told that you either get stretch marks or you don't. No harm in trying to prevent them though is there?!

Hi Casa I'll be 38 when this one is born too. I was very worried about my combined results but fortunately it came back as low risk. I hope yours are fine too.

NoMontagues · 15/08/2015 21:26

I used Palmers too clumsy

I got a few with DD but no new ones with DS.

I heard that if you can keep your overall weight gain to 2 stone or less you won't get stretch marks. Highly unlikely I'll be able to do that though Grin

birdbrain21 · 15/08/2015 23:52

I used palmers cocoa butter last time and am covered in stretch marks. Doesn't bother me as I have to always be dressed modestly for religion so no one else, apart from dh who doesn't care, sees them but just don't think putting cream on is a guaranteed prevention!

About buggies we have the mamas and papas sola which ticked all the boxes for me proper carrycot and can be parent or forward facing. You can buy adapters for maxi cosi car seats to fit on it also. But the one thing I didn't consider is it's quite a heavy frame so whenever we go out in the car it's annoying to lift in and out of boot. Now dd is older we want to get an umbrella stroller but I didn't want one for a newborn so guess we'll manage with what we've got again ( not going to spend another 300 when we have a good buggy ) if you go out a lot in the car think about the weight of the buggy you choose

birdbrain21 · 15/08/2015 23:55

Oh and welcome casa hope you feel better soonSmile

haquoi123 · 16/08/2015 06:04

bigfox I don't mind at all. I was working in Italy for two weeks, staying with a host family and teaching Italian children in English (English immersion language camp). It was a good job, the 10th time I'd been out there, and I absolutely love Italy.

Welcome casa! Your morning sickness sounds vile, I truly hope it doesn't last as long this time.

Thanks for all the lovely comments about my scan, they made my day :)

Had a mammoth time trying to get maternity clothing yesterday - I just want leggings!! Nothing in the stores so I came home and selected a couple of seraphine things and then my cards were declined for no obvious reason! Grrr. Just not destined to be comfortable, my last pair of comfy leggings have holes and suddenly don't fit any more.

haquoi I swear by the H&M maternity leggings, did you try those?

IslaMann · 16/08/2015 09:29

Regarding stretch marks - scar management is part of my job, so I have a little knowledge. Basically yes, you'll either get them or you won't, but massaging skin will help with the severity. DONT waste money on expensive lotions and potions tho, it's the massage action that helps, not what you use. Baby oil is as good as anything that costs £20. (Bio-oil's claim that it reduces scars etc is a marketing con). It's the massage action that reduces scarring by making the skin fibres more supple.

haquoi123 · 16/08/2015 09:44

That's great to know isla, thanks! Methinks DH has a new job ;) (poor guy!)

montagues the h&m ones were itchy in the seams so I thought I'd go back if I didn't find any others, but got tired and forgot :s

Thanks bigfox, it was a great job. I know I'm welcome back if I want but I can't see it happening. It's a shame as it made sure I had some work over the summer... I'll have a look at jojos and see about trousers. Got a big arse and don't think the seraphine trousers would do! The seraphine leggings look pretty good though and funnily enough not that expensive, so I'm going to buy a couple of them and see what happens. Called the bank today and cards were declined because they deemed it an 'unusual purchase'!

isla, would aqueous cream do it? Or does it need to be oil? I'm allergic to baby oil...

Had another look at went with the jojo leggings as they were cotton. Buy 2 get £5 off, AND mumsnet have a discount code with them! www.mumsnet.com/partner-offers/jojo-maman-bebe-discount

Haquoi, yes aqueous cream is good. Basically anything that doesn't sink in too quickly and stops your fingers dragging the skin. We use Vaseline at work, it's cheap and works! We use aqueous on burns as it moisturises too, but remember that any moisturiser only infiltrates 2-3mm of the skin so no point in using too much, as it'll just cause clogged pores.

NoMontagues · 16/08/2015 11:17

Grin at "unusual purchase".

Myob card company!

Rufus200 · 16/08/2015 12:33

If stretch mark prevention is more about massage then people might be interested in wooden cellulite massagers that you can buy cheaply off eBay. I do my thighs and stomach every morning in the shower.

I'm feeling so tired, feel like I haven't slept at all. Keep on waking up soaked in sweat! DH had the duvet up to his chin last night and rufuskitty was under the duvet with him shivering, I had the fan on my at full blast and no covers.

Rufus200 · 16/08/2015 17:05

I have a TMI question, is any one else getting pain in their vaginal walls? It feels like that ache when you have had pounding sex and the next day you are sore but there hasn't been any sex since I got pregnant. I had it last night when I woke up and I've been having it on and off all day today. Discharge is normal white.

NoMontagues · 16/08/2015 18:29

I get that sometimes rufus it's just part of general, er, issues I have in the entire undercarriage area during pregnancy.

I put it down to swelling or pressure or both. It's probably a bit early for us to have too much pressure down there from the weight of the uterus but I've already noticed some swelling and increased blood flow.

ATrueNerd · 16/08/2015 18:29

I wrote out a long post the other day but lost it coz wifi went down for a few days after a storm grrr!

Banana your DH really sounds like a star!
Over I've been thinking of you over the weekend, hope you've managed to keep yourself busy, will be thinking of you tomorrow and praying for happy news.

Stretch marks, I'm in the you either do or don't camp, i used bio oil and cocoa butter religiously with dd1 but at 39 weeks, literally over night I was covered in them! Then they just grew with dd2. I only put on 2 stone each time but it was all bump, think it just depends on how big/fast your bump grows, I'm short with an extra short body so bump literally had nowhere to go but outwards, if you're tall or more pear shaped with a long body and wide hips the baby has more space so your bump won't get as big.. That's really interesting isla I will just use baby oil or maybe coconut oil this time, worth a try although I'm sure mine will just get worse.

Prams, I love my bugaboo Bee, lays flat, faces both ways, folds in one, light, easy to push and small enough to get round shops, they now do a carry cot that clips on, that fits the older 'plus' model as well as the new '3'.

ATrueNerd · 16/08/2015 18:47

Also, as we will be at our biggest when it is coldest I have ordered a warm maternity coat, I will get massive as I said and a normal coat will no way fit round me and I will have school runs to do. Got a padded Mamalicious one from Amazon for £28 instead of £60. I always get all our winter coats in the summer sales!

goneswimming · 16/08/2015 19:06

I bought a pair of maternity jeans today- so ridiculously comfortable! I've been haunting eBay for a couple of summery things because we'll be going on holiday when I'm about 20 weeks. Still feeling a bit unsure about buying winter stuff though, it all just feels too good to be true that I'm actually pregnant!

MayFlowers16 · 16/08/2015 19:18

Bargain TrueNerd. Do you have the link? I was looking on Amazon the other day but could only find lightweight coats. I was cheap last time as dd was due in October but she was very late and I was very big so really should have bought one then.

Tiredoftiredness · 16/08/2015 19:22

Just popping in to say hi as not posted for a while. Lovely to see more Scan pics.

Tiredness is killing me at the moment and I've had a few horrible IBS flair ups which I can tell you are not much fun without medication! I know there were a few other sufferers earlier on - any tips please?

I'm loving new look maternity at the moment, mostly for the free delivery and returns it has to be admitted, think I've had 4 or 5 deliveries over the last few weeks Blush but it's heaven to be in stretchy clothes!

Tiredoftiredness · 16/08/2015 19:23

Oh and thanks Isla for baby oil tip, have a huge bottle left over from DS and it hadn't occurred to me to use on myself!

Tired I get fast-paced IBS. I find that trying to eat low-fibre as much as possible and cutting out: caffeine, fizzy drinks and chili really helps me. I'm also lactose intolerant, so I've had to go "lacto-free" or soya-based to get my dairy. Might be worth trying that if you get into trouble. It really is no fun not being able to take meds.
